Diego Boneta is set to lead the newly greenlit bilingual series El Gato (w/t), based on the comic book series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. Production is anticipated to begin this spring in Mexico.

Boneta was previously attached to a project based on the same comic book titled El Gato Negro: Nocturnal Warrior from MGM Television and Mark Burnett in 2019 that stalled.

In El Gato, Boneta will play Frank Guerrero, the black sheep of his family, who finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy when he discovers his father was the titular ‘70s vigilante. Frank, who returns home to Mexico after the death of his father and finds himself neck-deep in a nest of vipers – his estranged family – who are vying for control of his father’s business empire.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has signed an exclusive overall deal with Gary “Gaz” Alazraki’s Maquina Vega. Under the deal, Alazraki is set to produce, write and direct series for Amazon MGM Studios.

Alazraki is a Mexican director known for directing the movies Father of The Bride (2022; writer and director of Mexico’s record-breaking comedy Nosotros Los Nobles (2013); and co-creator, executive producer and director of Club De Cuervos (2015), Netflix’s first Spanish original series. He heads Maquina Vega and is a board member of Oceana.

Alazraki began his career by directing commercials and the short films: Volver (2005) starring Jaime Camil, Martha Higareda, Tony Dalton and La Hora Cero (2008) produced by Guillermo Arriaga.

In 2011, he began production on Nosotros Los Nobles starring Gonzalo Vega, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Karla Souza and Juan Pablo Gil which he directed/wrote/produced. The film was released by Warner Bros. in 2013 and it became the highest-grossing Mexican movie of all time.

Exclusive: Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel: The Series) and Martha Higareda (Queens on the Run) are set to star and produce the new erotic thriller film Follow for Amazon Studios from award-winning collaborators Fred Berger (La La Land) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (The Bikeriders) and Piano’s Julio Chavezmontes and Gabriela Maire. This is the first project from Boneta’s production banner Three Amigos’s overall deal with Amazon Prime.

A funny Mexican movie that, between Thelma and Louise and Sky Rojo, takes us to the adventures of four very nice women.

Very entertaining, it delves more in the funny and sympathetic tone than in the thriller.

Without being the movie of our lives, it achieves what it intends: to make us have a good time without disturbing us too much.

Funny, good rhythm, excellent comic performances, exaggeratedly self-conscious: four great protagonists with whom to spend two hours and, unfortunately, forget about them after ten minutes.

With Queens on the Run we are clear about it after five minutes: it only aims to entertain, following usual plots and with a hint of parody to American cinema and the classic road movies with women characters.

The content studio, which claims a podcast network of 20 million monthly downloads and specializes in partnering with Latino creatives to launch audio series that can then be developed for film and television, has teamed with Manolo Cardona and Martha Higareda to each launch their own imprint. Exclusive: Management company Grandview has promoted Shivani Doraiswami and Brennan O’Donnell to manager.

“Shiv and Brennan have both worked their way up and across our company,” said Grandview Partners. “They are beloved members of our team and have exhibited the hard work, hustle, trust and creativity that we value so much.”

It was a short-lived run for the Romans’ country music dynasty, as Fox has canceled Monarch after just one season. As reported by Deadline, Monarch will not be returning for a second season. The show had gone through a number of changes since it was originally filmed during the pandemic. Initially, it was set for a January 2022 launch but was pushed back as a result of Covid-19. It was then redesigned as a shorter 11-episode series. Created by Melissa London Hilfers, the musical drama revolved around Dottie (Susan Sarandon) and Albie Roman (Trace Adkins), the heads of a country music empire, and their daughter Nicky Roman (Anna Friel), who does all she can to protect the family’s reign in country music while ensuring her own stardom. According to Deadline, Monarch has been canceled after one season.

The news dropped just one day after the Monarch Season 1 finale, which was another shocking hour of the Country Music drama series.

Monarch launched in the fall, despite being initially set to premiere much earlier this year.

At the time of the delay, Fox noted that it wanted to give the show more time for promotion.

The series debuted with a football lerad-in back in early September with 4 million viewers and a 0.91 rating, with the premiere going on to reach much higher numbers with encores and delayed viewing factored in.

Unfortunately, the show failed to garner much traction in its regular Tuesdays at 9 p.m. time period, with the series overall averaging 1.9 million viewers and a 0.3 rating

The finale on Tuesday managed 1.6 million viewers and a 0.2 rating.

Fox is putting an end to the Roman family’s reign, cancelling Monarch after one season, our sister site Deadline reports. The final episode aired Dec. 6 and will now serve as the series ender.

Created by Melissa London Hilfers, Monarch starred Susan Sarandon and Trace Adkins as Dottie and Albie Roman, the king and queen of country music. Following Dottie’s complicated death in the series premiere, Monarch‘s first — and now only — season chronicled the Romans’ fight to maintain the family dynasty, all while protecting their own selfish interests.

Season one of Monarch, Fox’s new Country music-driven drama, premiered on September 11, 2022 and drew in more than 10 million viewers. The show’s first episode stands as 2022’s top scripted new drama, and it also now sits as the most-watched fall scripted premiere on Fox since Prodigal Son debuted back in September 2019.

The first season continues with episode two, “There Can Only Be One Queen,” airing on September 20, 2022 and guest starring Country star Shania Twain. Episode two marks the series’ regular Tuesday at 9pm Et/Pt time period premiere.

It’s more a public service than a spoiler to reveal that no matter how Fox is promoting the show, polarizing Oscar winner Susan Sarandon is truly not the primary star of the new musical soap opera Monarch.

Armed with this knowledge, everybody comes out ahead. Sarandon haters can tune into Monarch without fear of an excess of Susan Sarandon; Sarandon fans, the real winners here, can safely skip Monarch entirely.

Although it obviously and rather desperately wants to be Empire only with country music, Monarch is actually just protracted mediocre karaoke. Any karaoke aficionado can tell you that mediocre karaoke is the worst karaoke of all. Bad karaoke is drunken, trashy fun. Great karaoke is entertaining and musical. Mediocre karaoke? It’s that movie with Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis. (Duets. It’s called Duets.) And Monarch wishes it was even that good.

Netflix has reaffirmed its 300 million commitment to Mexican cinema and series, announcing a slew of new movie projects to celebrate the country’s National Day of Cinema on Aug. 15 and as part of its #QueMéxicoSeVea initiative.

The year-old initiative, which can be roughly translated to “Let Mexico Be Seen” has the mission “to make visible the work of Mexican creators, screenwriters, writers, directors, actors and people who make national cinema possible,” as well as its wealth of original stories.

Leading the pack is the widely anticipated directorial debut of Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto who is helming an adaptation of Juan Rulfo’s seminal novel, “Pedro Paramo.” Produced by Redrum, the film’s crew includes Oscar-nominated production designer Eugenio Caballero and costume designer Anna Terrazas, whose notable credits include “Roma,” “Spectre” and “Bardo.”

Fox has found its solution for the “Monarch”-shaped hole left in its post-nfc Championship time-slot after moving the Susan Sarandon-led drama’s premiere to the fall.

Instead of debuting the new show after the Jan. 30 NFL game, which the broadcast network has delayed due to complications posed by producing it during the pandemic, Fox will air a fresh episode of Gordon Ramsay’s new cooking competition, “Next Level Chef,” immediately after it at 10:00-11:05 p.m. Et/7:00-8:05 p.m. Pt.

Per Fox, “In this special episode, Ramsay and his fellow mentors, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais, serve up a Sunday Brunch challenge, during which each remaining chef must create a next-level dish that incorporates both sweet and savory elements in just 45 minutes. Find out who will rise to the occasion and who ends up with egg on their face when one aspiring chef goes home.

Fox has pushed back the launch of the series from January to fall, citing the rising spread of the virus. The series was set to premiere on Sunday January 30.

The network called the series, which is its first fully-owned drama, a “top priority” but was forced in to the move as a result of the impact of the pandemic on production.

Fox is hoping that by shifting the show to fall of its 2022/23 season, it will benefit from having the entire first season produced and more time to market the drama.

Where to Watch “Culture Shock”: Hulu

“Into the Dark,” which wrapped its second season earlier this year on Hulu, is an anthology series. By its nature, there’s a certain hit-or-miss quality, especially when the horror collection adds the constraint of tying each installment into a holiday. Some can get too cute by half, while others (like Nacho Vigalondo’s bonkers “Pooka!” or the most recent “Blood Moon”) strip away those ties to find the thematic strength underneath.

It’s what makes “Culture Shock,” the Gigi Saul Guerrero-directed episode of “Into the Dark,” shocking at times, and it also makes it difficult to talk around the specific turns it takes without giving away its ultimate goal. Still, effectively told in three parts, it balances all of those inputs, making it a standout among “Into the Dark” episodes and the greater Blumhouse body of work at large.

IMDb TV released the official trailer for courtroom series “Judy Justice.” The new series premieres Nov. 1 and marks the judge’s return to the televised bench.

The reality court program, presided over by Judge Judy Sheindlin, adjudicates real-life cases filed from all over the country.
