From the moment Mortal Kombat came to an end, fans have been anticipating the debut of one of the most iconic characters from the video game franchise: Johnny Cage! As the first movie in the franchise came to an end, former Mma fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) made his way to Los Angeles seeking out a new recruit to join him in the looming battle ahead. It was teased that the man he was seeking out was none other than Johnny Cage which left fans on the edge of their seats wanting more.
While there was some concern at first about whether a sequel would be greenlit – after all, the first film didn’t exactly rake in a ton of cash at the box office due to its hybrid release during the pandemic which saw Mortal Kombat opening in theaters while also dropping on Max. Warner Bros.'s 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat was a fun and delightfully bloody film featuring plenty of fan service while telling a cohesive story anyone unfamiliar with the games could follow. It was a massive hit on the service formally known as HBO Max, becoming the most-streamed title of that year. But despite its overall quality, the movie suffered from both a lack of scope and a lack of female characters among its large and diverse cast. Both of which director Simon McQuoid promises will be addressed in the upcoming sequel Mortal Kombat 2.
McQuoid, who made his feature directorial debut with Mortal Kombat and sits behind the helm of the sequel, told Entertainment Weekly that in addition to returning cast member Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mortal Kombat 2 will also feature Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and several other as yet-undisclosed characters.

Multiple characters killed off in the first film will be returning in Mortal Kombat 2. However, fans should know that there will be a good storyline explanation for this rather than falling back on hokey tricks.
Ed Boon, who co-created Mortal Kombat with John Tobias, teased what fans can expect from the new movie. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he confirmed that lore from the video games will influence how characters like Josh Lawson's Kano and Max Huang's Kung Lao appear in Mortal Kombat 2 after having unfortunate fates in the previous film. As Boon noted, fans of the recent games are already very familiar with deceased characters returning, opening the door to make this possible.
"I can say Josh Lawson doesn't play Kano's twin," Boon said. "We've killed a number of characters who are in Mortal Kombat 1 and our latest games. So we deal with spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that.

The cast of Mortal Kombat 2will see the return of deceased characters like Kano (Josh Lawson) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). Both characters died in the previous film, with Kano having been killed by Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and Kung Lao having his soul taken by Shang Tsung (Chin Han). The first images from Mortal Kombat 2, debuted by EW, reveal “The Boys” star Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, a fan-favorite character from the video game franchise.
The photos also show Adeline Rudolph (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) as Kitana, Hiroyuki Sanada returning as Scorpion, and bodybuilder Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”) as antagonist Shao Kahn.
“You finally get to see Johnny Cage,” Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon tells EW. “His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores. He’s a washed-up Hollywood guy thrown into this magical, ultra-violent thing.
“Karl, his depiction of Johnny Cage is different than our games in some ways. He’s adding his own flare to it, but I think it’ll feel fresh. There’s like a novelty factor in there.”

In response to the Covid pandemic, Warner Bros. gave all of their 2021 films day-and-date theatrical and Max streaming releases – and one movie that really benefited from the streaming side of that strategy was the video game adaptation Mortal Kombat, released in April of 2021. As reported by Business Insider, Mortal Kombat had the best weekend of any of the Warner Bros. releases on Max, with a total of 3.8 million viewers during its first few days. In addition to that, the film, which cost $55 million to make, earned $83.6 million at the global box office. So, within months of its release, Warner Bros. was already developing sequels and spinoffs. The first follow-up will be making its way into theatres sometime in 2025 – and here’s everything we know about Mortal Kombat 2.

Underworld star Kate Beckinsale and Mortal Kombat’sLewis Tan will join forces for a new “under-the-radar" action thriller from director James Nunn, the filmmaker behind the Scott Adkins action outings One Shot and One More Shot. Yes, it is pretty much everything you could hope for as an action movie fan. You're welcome. Titled Lioness, production is now underway in the United Kingdom, and the first details have now been revealed.
According to a report by Deadline, Capstone will finance the action movie, which will follow “an ex-black ops team who reunite to pull off a desperate heist to save the life of their leader’s (Beckinsale) eight-year-old daughter.” Which, frankly, sounds like the kind of pitch perfect, no-nonsense plot that action dreams are often made of.
Alongside Kate Beckinsale and Lewis Tan, the rest of the cast includes Rasmus Hardiker, Alice Krige, Bailey Patrick, Tom Bennett, Matt Willis, and Roxy Striar.

Spoilers for "Cobra Kai" season 6, part 3 follow.
After a very respectable run of five regular seasons and a massive, three-part season 6, "Cobra Kai" comes to a close. Over the course of its 65-episode run, the martial arts comedy-drama has introduced a massive cast of karate experts who have clashed with each other so many times that a fan is bound to have at least some thoughts about their power ranking.
Putting together a list of "Cobra Kai's" greatest fighters is trickier than it seems. While it's easy to determine that ruthless military man Captain George Turner (Terry Serpico) is likely a better martial artist than young Bert (Owen Morgan), many of the show's major names have an extremely eclectic win-loss record that forces the reviewer to lean heavily into their status near the end of the show. For instance, Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) is a beast, but he's also...

The following article contains spoilers for Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3, now streaming on Netflix.
With the Karate Kid Universe expanding, Netflix's Cobra Kai keeps making William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence one of the most relatable characters in the franchise. He has achieved redemption, shown emotional depth as a father, and an endearing side as a sensei. He's being his best self and trying to atone for all his past sins. In the process, he helped Ralph Macchio's Daniel Larusso improve, too.
Daniel had a bit of an ego, but as he merged Miyagi-Do with Johnny's Cobra Kai dojo, he learned more about himself along the way. It cements how important Johnny has been in the entire journey after starting off as a villain.

This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" season 6 part 3.
At the end of the day, "Cobra Kai" has always been Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) show. The series finale, titled "Ex-Degenerate," confirms as much, both with its title that nods at the series premiere "Ace Degenerate" and its plot that keeps a laser-like focus on his journey.
Despite this, "Cobra Kai" has kept expanding its cast over the years, often spending entire seasons to introduce and develop complex new combatants to throw at an established name. This has been highly entertaining, especially since it has kept things from getting stale, and these new faces tend to be quite interesting. Unfortunately, this leaves season 6 with a massive problem: Since comparatively few characters actually exit the show at any point, the final season is overstocked with supporting characters and hangers-around it's either unable or unwilling to deal with. "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3 doesn't hesitate to give its main characters their just desserts. While the show sweeps several members of its extensive cast to the sidelines out of necessity, Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) inner circles get perfectly satisfactory happy endings, each tailor made for the character in question. Likewise, the franchise's two biggest overarching antagonists get a thematically appropriate send-off, as 1980s uber-villains John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) die in an explosive and extremely 1980s-coded yacht punch-up.
However, not everyone gets what they deserve. In fact, by the time the credits roll for the series finale, titled "Ex-Degenerate," two major characters quite literally get away with murder.

Quick LinksA Recap of Kreese and Silver in 'Cobra Kai'Kreese and Silver’s Final Moves in 'Cobra Kai'Kreese & Silver’s Journeys up to 'Cobra Kai' Season 6
Through its entire six-season run, Cobra Kai has always been about villains. At its core, the question fans had to ask is whether Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) was/is the real villain or Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio). The story expanded to include a new generation of kids, initially centered around Miguel (Xolo Mariduena), a young student dealing with bullies much like Daniel did, along with new bullies turned good kids like Tory (Peyton List), Robby (Tanner Buchanan), and Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young).
Of course, what would a show like Cobra Kai, which reopens wounds from The Karate Kid more than 30 years ago, be without some of its original villains? Two who returned to reprise their roles from the original franchise films definitely won’t be returning.

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Cobra Kai” Season 6, Part 3.
The “Cobra Kai” showrunners wanted to put Johnny’s (William Zabka) “bloodier, sweatier” fight in the series finale to mimic the underdog energy Daniel (Ralph Macchio) had in “The Karate Kid.”
The YouTube-turned-Netflix series wrapped up its six-season, 65-episode story with Johnny squaring off against Wolf (Lewis Tan) in a tiebreaker match to decide whether Cobra Kai or Iron Dragon would win the Sekai Taikai tournament. The showrunners told TheWrap that the goal of the final episode was to return to the karate tournament mats in a more brutal fashion then fans had seen before.
“It’s ‘Rocky IV,’ you know,” Josh Heald said. “It’s bloodier, it’s sweatier, it’s more brutal in certain ways.”

Martin had already sung high praises for the soon-to-be released Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. "He loves it," Orsi said, before going on to offer praises of her own for the series' leading duo of Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell.

Per Deadline, the long-awaited documentary charting the life and careers of the famous stoner comedy duo is set to premiere in theaters nationwide on April 25, with special engagement showings in select locations on April 20 (4/20). This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.
After seven years, six seasons, and two streaming platforms (three if you count YouTube Red and YouTube Premium as separate), "Cobra Kai" has finally come to an end. And as you might expect from a show all about karate tournaments, the series sends things off with a trio of climactic fights at the Sekai Taikai world championship. "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3 isn't as outlandish as some other points in the show, but it gives most of the major characters good closure and some significant victories, be they on the mat or off it.
After the bloody and abrupt interruption of the tournament in Season 6 Part 2, Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) convinces the other senseis to resume competition for the final rounds by moving the event from Barcelona to the San Fernando Valley. After Sam Larusso (Mary Mouser) decides not to return to the tournament,...

Cobra Kai ended in such a satisfying way, tying up loose ends and bringing closure, redemption, and happy endings for virtually every character. What’s more, some of the storylines brought closure 30 years later following the original The Karate Kid movies. A lot happened in the final five episodes of the three-part, 15-episode sixth and final season. The Sekai-Taikai tournament resumed in the wake of tragedy, the kids prepapred to move on, and the adults got clarity on so much in their lives. While it sets things up for potential spin-offs, should any be in the works, for some characters, it also spells the end.

This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.
Have you ever wondered why karate seems to be the be-all and end-all for most "Cobra Kai" characters -- even ones who don't seem all that interested in spending their lives as a competitive athlete? The show's final block of episodes examines this question on many fronts, as some characters embrace the martial art as a proper calling and others set out to explore other avenues of life. However, no two characters' arcs depict the fallout of an obsessive karate life better than those of John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), two villains who have been part of the franchise since the original "The Karate Kid" trilogy.

Plot: After a shocking result in the Sekai Taikai, Miyagi-Do must reckon with their pasts while facing an uncertain future both on and off the mat. Almost 40 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, it’s all been leading to this.
Review: After six seasons over seven years and two streaming platforms, Cobra Kai is coming to an end. With the first two parts of the final season split into three parts, fans have seen ten episodes leading to the long-awaited finale event debuting on Netflix. Johnny Lawrence has a chance to reclaim victory on the All Valley mat in the Cobra Kai series finale. Does he manage it, and how does the series come to an end?
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6, episode 15.
The series finale is here. One of the great things about Cobra Kai being saved by Netflix is that it had a chance to end the way it was always supposed to. While Karate Kid fans wanted to find a way for Miyagi-Do to end up on top and Daneil continue to win, this series was never titled “Miyagi-Do.” It has always been titled “Cobra Kai.”
The series always had to end with Johnn Lawrence and Cobra Kai. That’s the way it did despite all the ups and downs over the last six seasons. The ending did not disappoint.

Cobra Kai season 6, episode 13 brought one of the best scenes of the whole series. Here’s a look at the events of the entire episode.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6, episode 13.
The Sekai Taikai gets started, bringing the end of dreams for some and a chance for reconciliation for others. This episode also brought us a moment that we all needed, even if it didn’t bring all the answers we needed.
We do get to see the commentators sharing the excitement for the fights to come. This is a great reminder of the events from previous episodes, but it is also a chance to catch up on where Cobra Kai is. Tory returns without her dojang or a sensei. We do quickly learn that Silver is definitely dying, and he only has six months. This is more important than ever for him.

Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 is now streaming on Netflix. I watched all five episodes of the final season of the Netflix original series, including the series finale, fittingly titled “Ex-Degenerate.”
I shared exactly how Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 ends and shared some thoughts on where the story goes from here. I do not think this is the end of the line for these great characters and cast.
Tory and Miguel become Sekai Taikai champions
In the penultimate episode of Cobra Kai season 6, titled “Strike Last,” Tory Nichols (Peyton List) and Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), who returned to Cobra Kai under Sensei Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) for the finals of the Sekai Taikai, win their championship matches against Zara (Rayna Vallandingham) and Axel (Patrick Luwis). That leaves Cobra Kai in a tie with the Iron Dragons for the team prize in the Sekai Taikai. As a tie-breaker, the Senseis must battle...

Bust out your best karate stances and crane kick attempts, kids, because finally, after a long enough wait, Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 arrives Thursday, Feb. 12, 2025 to wrap up the series storyline and hopefully provide us with some resolution. When part 2 ended, everyone and everything was in complete pandemonium.
Rivalries were raging, friendships and relationships were strained, selfish intentions abounded, and a tournament decision led to complete mayhem resulting in the death of a finalist. As Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 arrives on Netflix, here are 8 things we want to see in the final episodes.
1. What happens in the wake of Kwon's death?
The Sekai Taikai tournament is the most prestigious karate tournament in modern martial arts history, which determines the top dojo in the world. So, to now have a death on their hands is obviously a big deal. Since the tournament was broadcast live, viewers saw what happened. As such,...

Get over here... and check out the first official posters for Mortal Kombat II!
Producer Todd Garner has been sharing teasing behind-the-scenes photos from the sequel for quite a while, but we finally have some official promotional material via a poster spotlighting Karl Urban as "Johnny F*cking Cage," and a banner featuring the movie's updated logo.
The Boys and Star Trek actor doesn't appear to be in his classic video game costume as the beloved Mk character, but that's likely because this is a movie-within-a-movie poster for one of Cage's action flicks, "Uncaged Fury."

Mortal Kombat fans finally got their first look at The Boys and Dredd star Karl Urban as fan-favorite fighter Johnny Cage. But, while he’s one of the most popular actors right now, and cuts a perfectly fine figure as Cage (though does he only star in movies based on his own last name?), many have since taken to social media to question the casting choice. With some feeling that a different action star would have been far better suited: John Wick: Chapter 4 star Scott Adkins.
The debate kicked off thanks to Vulture and GQ journalist @BrndnStrssng, who took to X/Twitter to praise Urban, but questioned whether he’s really the right choice for Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2. “I love Karl Urban but this is nuclear grade terrible casting,” he said. “If you were gonna with a guy in his mid-40s, it was always Adkins,...

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January of 2024 after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, they had to go back for some reshoots last summer. So we still don’t know when this movie is going to be released – but it is starting to take some steps forward. Back in November, we learned that Mortal Kombat 2 has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, and language. Now, a logo for the film has been unveiled, along with a poster featuring the character of actor Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. You can check those images out at the bottom of this article.
The screenplay for Mortal Kombat 2 has been written by Jeremy Slater, who was the lead writer on the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight.

Mortal Kombat fans have finally been given a look at The Boys’ Karl Urban as Johnny Cage in a new image shared on the official Mortal Kombat X/Twitter account. As one of the most anticipated new arrivals in the upcoming sequel, the full look of Urban as the video game icon is certainly one to get fans hyped for the movie’s arrival. Although this is only a “film” poster for one of the character’s in-world movies, there is certainly plenty to suggest that fans are going to love his interpretation of the role.

Cobra Kai never dies in this new trailer for the show that continues the legacy of the Karate Kid films. Part 3 of Cobra Kai‘s finale has premiered its final trailer, courtesy of Netflix, and the show is inevitably taking it all back to where it started at the All-Valley Tournament. Imagery of nostalgia continues as shots of Daniel and his now ally, Johnny, both train in the crane kick on the beach like in the original Karate Kid and a trailer mix of “You’re the Best Around” will pump you up for the final round of karate combat.
The season synopsis reads,
“After a shocking result in the Sekai Taikai, Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai must reckon with their pasts while facing an uncertain future both on and off the mat. Almost 40 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, it’s all been leading to this.

On Thursday, Netflix revealed its full 2025 TV slate. The lineup includes the final seasons of two of its biggest shows, Stranger Things and Squid Game, and a second season of its other biggest show, Wednesday. It also includes promising-sounding limited series like Black Rabbit and The Four Seasons, returns of longtime Netflix favorites like Black Mirror and Chef’s Table, an overwhelming number of sports documentaries, and dozens more shows.
The biggest piece of news in the announcement is the startlingly soon release date for Squid Game Season 3. The second and third seasons shot back-to-back, and so the final season is slated for June 27, just six months after the release of Season 2. Netflix also revealed a handful of previously unannounced projects, including a 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina documentary that counts Spike Lee as a director, and a Long Island serial killer docuseries from director Liz Garbus.

While all the characters in Cobra Kai showcase tremendous karate skills, the actors who play them aren’t all proficient in the martial art, or any martial art, for that matter. Some of them, however, do have extensive training in real life. Thomas Ian Griffith, for example, who plays Terry Silver, has been studying karate since he was in high school and has amassed more than 40 years of training. Sean Kenan, who plays Mike Barnes, was initially hired for The Karate Kid III because he already had karate experience.
What about the younger, new cast members? Some of them have dabbled in martial arts prior to receiving training for this series. In the latest and final sixth season of the series, one actor who has real-life martial arts experience is Rayna Vallandingham, who plays the fierce Iron Dragons student and social influencer Zara Malik.

Joe Taslim's Sub-Zero being resurrected as Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 2 would fix the most disappointing aspect of the 2021 reboot movie. The story of the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot follows characters like Sonya Blade, Jax, Kano, and the newly introduced Cole Young, as they take refuge in the temple of Lord Raiden and try to unlock their powers. While the majority of the film follows Cole Young, 2021's Mortal Kombat begins with a fight between longtime rivals Scorpion and Sub-Zero, who are the two most popular characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise.
Since they are the two most recognizable characters in the franchise, it is a relief that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are once again being included in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2. However, Scorpion kills Sub-Zero at the end of 2021's Mortal Kombat, which complicates his return. The cast of Mortal Kombat 2 will include Karl Urban, Lewis Tan,...
