Warner Bros.'s 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat was a fun and delightfully bloody film featuring plenty of fan service while telling a cohesive story anyone unfamiliar with the games could follow. It was a massive hit on the service formally known as HBO Max, becoming the most-streamed title of that year. But despite its overall quality, the movie suffered from both a lack of scope and a lack of female characters among its large and diverse cast. Both of which director Simon McQuoid promises will be addressed in the upcoming sequel Mortal Kombat 2.

McQuoid, who made his feature directorial debut with Mortal Kombat and sits behind the helm of the sequel, told Entertainment Weekly that in addition to returning cast member Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mortal Kombat 2 will also feature Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and several other as yet-undisclosed characters.

Ed Boon, who co-created Mortal Kombat with John Tobias, teased what fans can expect from the new movie. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he confirmed that lore from the video games will influence how characters like Josh Lawson's Kano and Max Huang's Kung Lao appear in Mortal Kombat 2 after having unfortunate fates in the previous film. As Boon noted, fans of the recent games are already very familiar with deceased characters returning, opening the door to make this possible.

"I can say Josh Lawson doesn't play Kano's twin," Boon said. "We've killed a number of characters who are in Mortal Kombat 1 and our latest games. So we deal with spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that.

The first batch of images from Mortal Kombat 2 has been released, revealing the first look at new characters joining the sequel. The Mortal Kombat franchise originated as a fighting-based video game series whose first installment was put out in 1992. It was first adapted into a movie in 1995, with a sequel in 1997. Then, in 2021, a new film adaptation was released and directed by Simon McQuoid, who is returning to helm Mortal Kombat II. The second film features a leading cast including Karl Urban, Hiroyuki Sanada, Martyn Ford, Lewis Tan, Adeline Rudolph, and Tati Gabrielle.

Via EW, the images reveal a new look at Urban's Johnny Cage as well as the designs of Shao Kahn (Ford) and Kitana (Rudolph). Additionally, the images include a look at the return of Scorpion, played by Sanada. Urban looks ready to fight in his image, posed with one fist ready to punch and the other looking to block.

With the Karate Kid Universe expanding, Netflix's Cobra Kai keeps making William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence one of the most relatable characters in the franchise. He has achieved redemption, shown emotional depth as a father, and an endearing side as a sensei. He's being his best self and trying to atone for all his past sins. In the process, he helped Ralph Macchio's Daniel Larusso improve, too.

Daniel had a bit of an ego, but as he merged Miyagi-Do with Johnny's Cobra Kai dojo, he learned more about himself along the way. It cements how important Johnny has been in the entire journey after starting off as a villain.

Despite this, "Cobra Kai" has kept expanding its cast over the years, often spending entire seasons to introduce and develop complex new combatants to throw at an established name. This has been highly entertaining, especially since it has kept things from getting stale, and these new faces tend to be quite interesting. "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3 doesn't hesitate to give its main characters their just desserts. While the show sweeps several members of its extensive cast to the sidelines out of necessity, Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence's (William Zabka) inner circles get perfectly satisfactory happy endings, each tailor made for the character in question. Likewise, the franchise's two biggest overarching antagonists get a thematically appropriate send-off, as 1980s uber-villains John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) die in an explosive and extremely 1980s-coded yacht punch-up.

Through its entire six-season run, Cobra Kai has always been about villains. At its core, the question fans had to ask is whether Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) was/is the real villain or Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio). Cobra Kai ended in such a satisfying way, tying up loose ends and bringing closure, redemption, and happy endings for virtually every character. What’s more, some of the storylines brought closure 30 years later following the original The Karate Kid movies. A lot happened in the final five episodes of the three-part, 15-episode sixth and final season. The Sekai-Taikai tournament resumed in the wake of tragedy, the kids prepapred to move on, and the adults got clarity on so much in their lives. While it sets things up for potential spin-offs, should any be in the works, for some characters, it also spells the end.

The series finale is here. One of the great things about Cobra Kai being saved by Netflix is that it had a chance to end the way it was always supposed to. Producer Todd Garner has been sharing teasing behind-the-scenes photos from the sequel for quite a while, but we finally have some official promotional material via a poster spotlighting Karl Urban as "Johnny F*cking Cage," and a banner featuring the movie's updated logo.

The Boys and Star Trek actor doesn't appear to be in his classic video game costume as the beloved Mk character, but that's likely because this is a movie-within-a-movie poster for one of Cage's action flicks, "Uncaged Fury."

The cocky Hollywood star turned heroic freedom fighter's debut was set up at the end of the first movie when Cole Young (Lewis Tan) told his fellow kombatants that he knew someone "out in LA" that could aid them in the impending rematch against the forces of Outworld.

Mortal Kombat fans finally got their first look at The Boys and Dredd star Karl Urban as fan-favorite fighter Johnny Cage. But, while he’s one of the most popular actors right now, and cuts a perfectly fine figure as Cage (though does he only star in movies based on his own last name?), many have since taken to social media to question the casting choice. Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January of 2024 after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, they had to go back for some reshoots last summer. So we still don’t know when this movie is going to be released – but it is starting to take some steps forward. Back in November, we learned that Mortal Kombat 2 has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, and language. Now, a logo for the film has been unveiled, along with a poster featuring the character of actor Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. You can check those images out at the bottom of this article.

The screenplay for Mortal Kombat 2 has been written by Jeremy Slater, who was the lead writer on the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight.

Cobra Kai never dies in this new trailer for the show that continues the legacy of the Karate Kid films. Part 3 of Cobra Kai‘s finale has premiered its final trailer, courtesy of Netflix, and the show is inevitably taking it all back to where it started at the All-Valley Tournament. Imagery of nostalgia continues as shots of Daniel and his now ally, Johnny, both train in the crane kick on the beach like in the original Karate Kid and a trailer mix of “You’re the Best Around” will pump you up for the final round of karate combat.

On Thursday, Netflix revealed its full 2025 TV slate. The lineup includes the final seasons of two of its biggest shows, Stranger Things and Squid Game, and a second season of its other biggest show, Wednesday. While all the characters in Cobra Kai showcase tremendous karate skills, the actors who play them aren’t all proficient in the martial art, or any martial art, for that matter. Some of them, however, do have extensive training in real life. Thomas Ian Griffith, for example, who plays Terry Silver, has been studying karate since he was in high school and has amassed more than 40 years of training. Sean Kenan, who plays Mike Barnes, was initially hired for The Karate Kid III because he already had karate experience.

What about the younger, new cast members? Some of them have dabbled in martial arts prior to receiving training for this series. In the latest and final sixth season of the series, one actor who has real-life martial arts experience is Rayna Vallandingham, who plays the fierce Iron Dragons student and social influencer Zara Malik.
