The American version of The Office is now 20 years old. Some of the talents involved with the hit series took some time to reflect on bringing it to life two decades ago with its earlier episodes, divulging how three of the show's writers wound up pulling double duty as on-screen actors.

Per THR, series creator Greg Daniels shared how B.J. Novak was the first person who was hired for the show. It was planned from the start for Novak to work as both a writer and an actor, and that resulted in him playing Ryan beginning with the very first episode. Daniels said he picked Novak first after recognizing his skills, noting, "It just felt to me like this is a really good place for writer-performers. I wanted to have a writer-performer vibe in the show."

On March 24, 2005, NBC aired the first episode of The Office, an American remake of the universally acclaimed, Golden Globe-winning BBC comedy of the same name. The premiere, a mockumentary that introduced the staff of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania, pulled in a decent-sized audience that night. It drew 11.2 million viewers following an episode of The Apprentice — but even with that start, expectations for the show were not high.

NBC had produced a pilot for The Office, written by King of the Hill co-creator Greg Daniels, in early 2004, just after Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC show won the Golden Globe for best comedy and Gervais took home the award for best actor in a comedy. The Office remains one of the most successful shows in TV history. The series ran for nine seasons, started careers for actors like Steve Carell and John Krasinski, and popularized the mockumentary style of sitcoms. It even achieved a record for most streamed minutes in a year in 2020 with viewers watching for 57.1 billion minutes, only to be toppled by Suits three years later.

It came as no surprise then when Peacock, where the series currently resides, announced a sequel to The Office. The upcoming show, titled The Paper, won't exactly be a direct sequel, moving away from the paper-selling offices of Dunder Mifflin with brand-new characters. Mindy Kaling is back with Running Point. She has been a singular comic voice on television for the past fifteen years. Her Fox and Hulu series The Mindy Project, which you can also find streaming on Netflix, was one of the funniest sitcoms of the decade. Then came the semi-autobiographical Never Have I Ever, a hilarious coming-of-age story unlike anything else on television, whether streaming or network.

However, Running Point is nothing like those shows because it’s just another run-of-the-mill comedy. Peacock is hitting the road again with Poker Face.

The streamer has set a spring premiere date for season two of its mystery-of-the-week series, starring Natasha Lyonne as a woman who can read when anyone is lying and — while on the run from some bad people — uses her skill to solve murders in the places she stops.

Peacock has also released several photos from the coming, 12-episode season (up from 10 in season one), featuring Lyonne’s Charlie Cale and several of the season’s guest stars.

That guest star list, incidentally, is extensive. “Poker Face” Season 2 is gearing up for a release this spring on Peacock.

The much-anticipated second installment of Rian Johnson’s mystery-of-the-week series will debut in spring 2025, Peacock announced on Tuesday. Season 2 will see Natasha Lyonne reprise her starring role as Charlie as she outruns her adversaries in her Plymouth Barracuda, which brings her to a number of mysteries across the country she can’t help but solve.

Season 2 will premiere over two years after “Poker Face” first debuted in January 2023, which featured a star-studded cast including Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Stephanie Hsu, Clea DuVall and Ron Perlman, to name a few.

This season will be no different, with this batch of guest stars including Alia Shawkat, Awkwafina, Ben Marshall. B.J. Fairly or not, Michael Scott's (Steve Carell) departure from "The Office" in Season 7 marks the dividing line between what many fans deem "Good Office" and "Bad Office." But there was another big departure after that: Ryan (B. J. Novak) left the series at the very beginning of Season 9, along with his on-and-off girlfriend Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling).

Unlike Michael, however, Ryan and Kelly leaving was not treated with a lot of fanfare. One minute they were a part of the show and the next minute they weren't, and all their coworkers simply went about life as usual.
