To pilot or not to pilot has been a question broadcast networks have been asking themselves for more than a decade and are increasingly answering ‘no’ to, especially when it comes to the traditional pilot season in the months leading to the May upfronts. We haven’t gotten a single pilot order in 2025 so far. While that is about to change with a handful of orders coming up, the pilot drought has been persistent amid an industry contraction and linear viewing decline, especially as the networks are still dealing with the backlog caused by strike-related delays.
Broadcasters these days often opt for economically efficient planted spinoffs that shoot as regular episodes of existing drama and comedy series or for development rooms and straight-to-series orders, primarily on the drama side. That is ironic because most of the biggest new drama hits of the last two seasons, CBS’ Tracker and Matlock and ABC’s High Potential,...

Shane Gillis returns to host Saturday Night Live on March 1, the second time the comedian has had the honor. The shared history between Gillis and SNL is well-documented, but the controversy hasn't exactly hurt Gillis' net worth.
Gillis was steadily building a following through his stand-up career and podcast appearances before Saturday Night Live cast him ahead of season 45. But the backlash from Gillis' derogatory comments on comedy podcasts put pressure on NBC to fire him, even if Lorne Michaels didn't agree.
Since then, Gillis has only become more famous and more successful. As a result, his net worth stands at an estimated $8 million in 2025 (via CelebrityNetWorth).
The Saturday Night Live scandal only raised Gillis' profile, and he responded by stringing together a series of notable podcast appearances and comedy tours. Perhaps no move was bigger than appearing on Joe Rogan's podcast and directly addressing the fallout from his SNL firing.

Simply put, "The Big Bang Theory" is one of the most successful sitcoms of all time, running for an impressive 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019. The show revolved around a close-knit group of young adult friends, each carrying their comedic weight and bringing in their own unique flair and quirks. Audiences got to see the main cast of "The Big Bang Theory" mature together, with many of its characters falling in love and moving to their next stage of life. Along the way, the show mixed in plenty of pop culture references to its signature sense of humor, often in celebration of geeky lifestyles.
Fortunately, for those looking to keep the comedy coming after finishing "The Big Bang Theory," there are plenty of similar shows available to watch. These range from sitcoms with broadly similar premises to spinoffs that actually expand the world of "The Big Bang Theory" itself. Here are the...

For the past 3 decades, sitcoms have somewhat guided the modern television arena, for better or worse. Whether it be F.R.I.E.N.D.S, That ’70s Show, Modern Family, or Himym, the uptake in comedy has been a steady sight to see for the current demography of fans and audiences across the board.

While television drama like Breaking Bad and Succession still make their mark on television, other shows like Barry, New Girl, and Hacks still manage to find a place among the modern topography of a realism-adhering audience.
But despite the existence of modern comedies, fans somehow still find a way to go back to the comfort of the older classics and the influence they have had in our years growing up.

Back in the days when television seasons had 20+ episodes per season, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas' hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" managed to wring nine seasons and 208 episodes out of its premise. With Josh Radnor as the series lead, Ted Mosby — whose older self, voiced by Bob Saget, is telling his kids an interminably long story about how he met their mom — and Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders, and Neil Patrick Harris as his best friends Marshall Eriksen, Lily Aldrin, Robin Scherbatsky, and Barney Stinson, the show explores Ted's love life in New York City as he tries to find "the one." To say it takes him a long time is a serious understatement.
As with all long-running series, "How I Met Your Mother" had definitive high points and low points from season to season. So, which seasons show off the very best of the ensemble comedy...

When "New Girl" ended in 2018 after seven seasons, it undoubtedly left a hole in people's hearts. Since 2011, people tuned into Fox every week to see what mishaps and misunderstandings Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) and her roommates would get into. There's no shortage of incredible "New Girl" episodes to watch, and if you go back, you may find new things to appreciate. Even if you don't, it's hard to get tired of watching an episode like "Background Check" where everyone's eccentricities are dialed up to 11.
Naturally, you may be ready to fill said heart-hole with something new yet oddly similar. "New Girl" is far from the only sitcom about a group of friends figuring out what to do in life while getting into copious high jinks. Or maybe you want something with a quirky female lead who's prone to burst into song. There can only ever be one "New Girl," but...

Did Ted Mosby almost end up with someone entirely different? ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
How I Met Your Mother remains one of the most cherished sitcoms of its time, accumulating romance, comedy, and tragedy over the course of nine seasons. However, there’s a dark aspect to the CBS show’s popularity — its ending.
While a majority expressed displeasure with the conclusion of How I Met Your Mother, they nevertheless acknowledge that the journey was the best part, if not the destination. After all, the show might have been cut off altogether, not just the ending, ridding us of a couple of hundred episodes.
The infamous finish, where Ted Mosby’s eventual love interest — the mother of his children — passes away from an illness, was a full-fledged affair that stuck to the writers’ original vision. However, the How I Met Your Mother creative team was prepared with a strong backup should...

Lionsgate’s advertising campaign for “Flight Risk” credits its latest film to “the award-winning director of ‘Braveheart,’ ‘Apocalypto’ and ‘Hacksaw Ridge’,” which seems a circumspect way of recognizing Mel Gibson as its helmer. Unfortunately, the movie’s problem is not that it lacks Gibson’s name, but his personality as a filmmaker. Reminding audiences of those very good pictures sets expectations way, way too high ahead of watching this cheap-looking, shoddily-made, lifeless thriller.

Craig Thomas and Carter Bays' CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014, and was so popular that it even launched a spin-off series. Despite its impressive longevity, however, it's safe to say that not every episode is a winner ... which makes sense since there are over 200 episodes in the series. There are actually a handful of seriously terrible episodes of the ensemble comedy — which stars Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, the guy who takes forever telling his kids about how he met their mother (with adult Ted voice by the late Bob Saget) — so which one do fans think is the absolute worst, if we're using the IMDb ranking as their final word on the matter?
The answer is a little complicated, because the series finale, "Last Forever," is split into two parts ... and the second part, appropriately subtitled "Part Two," has the dubious...

With two major fires continuing to rage across the Los Angeles area, thousands of displaced residents are looking for housing. Immediately.
Top luxury realtor Dylan Eckardt, whose clients include Justin Bieber and Rihanna, says he has received 36 calls in the past 18 hours from people whose homes in Malibu and Pacific Palisades have been reduced to ash. Displaced residents of Altadena are also scrambling to find housing on the other side of the city.

People are riding dirt bikes around, trying to help friends and throw animals on their backs. It’s worse today than it was three days ago. And driving through Malibu is like Armageddon.”

Apple TV+ struck gold with their heartfelt comedy, Shrinking, and the uproarious psychiatrist dramedy has already been renewed for season 3. Created for the small screen by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, Shrinking concerns a psychiatrist named Jimmy (Segel) who begins to practice unorthodox methods with his clients as he attempts to deal with his own grief. Capturing all the irreverence and wit needed to poke fun at the profession of psychiatry, Shrinking also doesn't skimp on the compelling personal drama that swirls around the lives of the characters. Though the series is funny, it's touching too.
Naturally, the debut season of Shrinking scored a slew of award nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the Emmys. This necessitated a season 2 renewal, which allowed the writers to flesh out Jimmy's story following the shocking cliffhanger ending of season 1. Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Shrinking season 2.
Shrinking season 2 ends on a satisfying note, yet there is still a great deal left to explore in season 3. Jimmy (Jason Segel) continues to grieve the death of his wife, Tia (Lilan Bowden), in season 2, which becomes more complicated when Brett Goldstein's Shrinking character, Louis, is revealed to be the drunk driver involved in her fatal accident. By Shrinking season 2's ending, both Jimmy and Louis reach their lowest points, but they still find a way to reconcile and help each other.
While much of season 2's conflict revolves around Jimmy and Louis, the rest of Shrinking's cast of characters also have their fair share of challenges, and the cast expands with many familiar faces from other sitcoms. [This story contains major spoilers from the Shrinking season two finale, “The Last Thanksgiving.“]
Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence has come a long way since thinking Brett Goldstein wasn’t the right actor to play the pivotal role of Louis in the Emmy-nominated show’s second season.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the start of season two, the showrunner explained that he saw Goldstein as Ted Lasso‘s Roy Kent and couldn’t picture him playing a more sensitive, sweet character, like Louis.
“This show would only work if you could have somebody that did awful things and yet still want it to work out for them anyway,” Lawrence said of the character. “So, I almost blew it. He would never be so forward as to ask, and Jason Segel made it happen.”
Now, looking back at the season as a whole, Lawrence doesn’t think it would have worked without the actor as Louis this season.

The second season of Shrinking on Apple TV+ ended on December 23 with the sad episode “The Last Thanksgiving.” This season finale not only wrapped up many important plots but also set the stage for the third season.
At a train station, Jason Segel’s character, Jimmy, steps in to stop Brett Goldstein’s character, Louis, from committing suicide. This is the episode’s most important scene. Since Louis was involved in the drunk driving accident that killed Jimmy’s wife, Tia, this intense scene emphasizes the season’s emphasis on forgiveness.
In Segel’s words, Goldstein was chosen as Louis because “I wanted somebody who really felt like a reflection of Jimmy.” The characters’ emotional connection was strengthened by their similarity in age, which he stressed was important. Long-lens cameras were used to shoot the scene across the train tracks, which created a cozy setting that showed how delicately they interacted.

Christa Miller and Bill Lawrence celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year, but not even a quarter-century of marriage affords Miller with spoilers about Shrinking.
“I’m not really privy to anything other than the basics,” Miller tells Gold Derby. So while the actress knew the broad strokes of what Lawrence and Shrinking co-creators Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein had in mind for her character, Liz, for Season 2, she was left stunned by the details. Mainly, a drifting Liz – left with an empty nest after having raised three sons – would reconnect with an old boyfriend and share a clandestine kiss.
“I was like, ‘Hey, that sounds fun, but also scary,’” Miller says, adding she felt it would be a situation where the fans of the show would give her some “sh–” for straying, even briefly, from her supportive husband Derek, played by Ted McGinley.
“Ted McGinley won’t even speak about it still,...

Before being cast on “Shrinking,” most people likely knew Jessica Williams from her historic run on “The Daily Show” as the show’s youngest correspondent ever. Or maybe they were aware of Williams’s excellent podcast, “2 Dope Queens.” Or they saw her in the indie romantic comedy “The Incredible Jessica James.” But none of those projects likely prepared Williams’s fans for her nuanced performance on the Apple TV+ comedy series, which allows the actress to lean on her expert comedy skills while also landing emotional dramatic beats in every episode.
“I mostly did this show because I wanted to work with Jason Segel, not knowing what the show was going to be,” Williams tells Gold Derby. “And I wanted to do a show where I could show range because that’s one of the things I admire most about Jason: he can just do it all. So I...

How I Met Your Mother celebrates romantic and platonic love. Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) are not the most obvious duo of the How I Met Your Mother cast, but they have a special friendship that plays out in subtle ways. Marshall is best remembered for his loving marriage to Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), and Robin's storyline in later seasons became a love triangle involving Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor.) However, Marshall and Robin have an underrated friendship with plenty of heartfelt and hilarious moments.
They might not have had the most screen time together, but from unexpected displays of vulnerability to gestures that show how well they truly understand each other, their rare moments together show how much they care. Marshall's optimism and goofiness were a great counterbalance to Robin's more acerbic sense of humor and pragmatic nature. With the...

One of popular culture's most beloved and successful brands of cinema, Sci-Fi boasts some of the best movies of all time. A key element of this is the diverse array of memorable and compelling villains that the genre has produced over the years. Featuring iconic characters in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey's Hal 9000, The Matrix's Agent Smith, or Star Wars' Darth Vader, the best sci-fi movie villains of all time feature prominently on any list of wider cinema's finest antagonists.
However, for every celebrated bad guy that the genre has to offer, there's at least one tragically underrated sci-fi movie villain who doesn't get enough recognition from mainstream audiences. Whether the character in question is overshadowed by more prominent antagonists who appear in their parent franchise or simply ends up getting lost in the shuffle with an array of broadly similar competitors, science fiction plays host...

Historically, female TV characters rarely get their due. There's no dearth of tropes that reduce women to plot points and sources of inspiration for male protagonists. Sometimes, their suffering even becomes a motivating factor for others' character development. It's not difficult to see why this is a common trend when TV women often get hate they don't deserve. It's sadly a good business decision to create female characters who either suffer or are detestable. That leaves viewers with many female TV characters who deserve better.
While there has been an intentional pushback against this trend in recent times, it's still disheartening that some of the most iconic female characters in TV history have such dissatisfying endings. When one thinks of disappointing arcs of TV characters who never got their happy ending, most of the characters are female. Now that both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have been confirmed to be cast in Avengers: Doomsday, there are many other brilliant actors that we would love to also see return to the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were the faces of the MCU throughout the Infinity Saga as Tony Stark's Iron Man and Steve Rogers' Captain America, respectively. Five years after leaving the MCU in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, both have now been confirmed to return, which creates the opportunity for even more missing MCU stars to join them.
Instead of returning as Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. is set to debut as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, which means it's possible that Chris Evans will also be portraying a new character, rather than Captain America. The freedom that the Multiverse Saga offers could allow many more veteran MCU actors to either reprise their old roles...

Shrinking is one of the most entertaining and underrated shows on streaming at the moment, and its second season is proving to be even stronger than its first. The show has done a great job of expanding each character’s storyline in thoughtful and meaningful ways, while also introducing many new faces to Shrinking’s cast that may be familiar to some audiences from other popular comedy shows. These surprise appearances have been my highlight of the season, and most importantly, their characters have served genuine purposes to the existing story.
Shrinking follows the exploits of two unconventional therapists, played by Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, whose personal relationships with their clients often get in the way of their professional work. An exclusive look inside how the Apple TV+ comedy staged a surprise “How I Met Your Mother” meet-up.

In “Changing Patterns” — the antepenultimate episode of the Apple TV+ comedy’s strong second season — Jason Segel’s Jimmy has a charged meet-cute with a fellow single parent named Sofi, played by Segel’s former “How I Met Your Mother” co-star Cobie Smulders. Wow, I can't believe there's officially only two more episodes left of Shrinking season 2! Even though this was a super-sized season with an additional two episodes, it went by so fast. This week, we're looking at season 2 episode 10, "Changing Patterns." And there's definitely a few changes made, and more to come. Here's our review of the episode on Apple TV+. Spoilers Below.
Courtesy: Apple TV+
It's Alice's birthday and everyone wants to make it special, especially Jimmy of course. Not only because this is her 18th birthday, which is a biggie, but also to make up for the bad one last year following her mother's death. There's changes on the horizon that comes with this milestone for Alice. And she now feels ready to leave therapy. This shows just how much progress she's made since we first met her in season 1.
I thought it was also a sweet touch of Paul giving her his hat.

"Welcome to the MCU. You're joining at a bit of a low point," says the Merc with the Mouth aka Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) in "Deadpool & Wolverine." He's not wrong. Most would agree the Marvel Cinematic Universe suffered a drop-off in quality in the aftermath of "Avengers: Endgame," with some of the franchise's Disney+ series, in particular, being met with immense criticism. Admittedly, some of that stemmed from a toxic fandom that just couldn't abide by, say, the visual of Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) twerking with Megan Thee Stallion in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." However, the lowest rated MCU Disney+ show on Rotten Tomatoes is one that just about everyone agrees would be better forgotten.

Accused has wrapped season 2, but how does each episode rank?
Accused returned to Fox this fall for another set of episodes with a unique formula. Each episode of the anthology features a different cast and story with a person on trial for a crime. As the episode goes on, flashbacks show what happened, and inevitably, the crime itself is never what it originally seemed.
Season 1 was a good success with 15 episodes, while this year was only 8. That was shorter yet still had a great bevy of guest stars, making it notable. Some can argue Season 2 wasn’t as strong as the first year, and while there were great performances, not all the stories worked as well. Here’s how each episode of Accused Season 2 ranks to show which belonged in the top tier for the show.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe was quite streamlined until Phase 3 (or more specifically until Avengers: Endgame). Kevin Feige had kept it all aligned as there were not too many branches (or universes), just one unified goal of preparing for Thanos.
Marvel became chaotic after Avengers: Endgame | Credits: Marvel Studios
After Avengers: Endgame, Kevin Feige’s MCU became a wide array of branches, characters, sub-plots, alternate realities, and more. To put the cherry on top, they also merged the X-Men from Foxverse to the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Multiverse is Quite Chaotic
It all started back in 2008 when veteran actor Robert Downey Jr. had a renaissance as Tony Stark aka Iron Man in Iron Man. With the success of the film, films like Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor were greenlit. They were, however, loosely connected to each other.

With the season’s penultimate installment, Accused Season 2 continues its trajectory of going out with a whimper.
Is anyone else having a difficult time connecting with most cases this season?
Here, Ken Jeong does some solid dramatic work, given that most people are accustomed to him in a comedic fashion. But it isn’t enough to make a compelling or interesting episode.
(Peter Stranks/Fox)
But that’s been the pattern this season, hasn’t it? I’ve noted before that it seems like every other installment has sparks of what made Accused Season 1 so intriguing to viewers and luring us back for more.
And then the other episodes fall so flat that, at best, you go through the motions of watching dutifully, and at worst, you don’t care.
The Irrational Season 2 Episode 7 Offered An Inspiring Message, But Where Were The Cliffhangers?by Jack Ori From Whimper to Weird:...
