Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbenderand The Legend of Korrahave much to look forward to as the story continues in a new animated series. While Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action remake proved to be a hit in terms of attracting viewers, it was a controversial adaptation, seeing the original series' creators — Michael Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko — walk away early in its development due to creative differences.
Well, now they're back, as Deadline has revealed that Nickelodeon has ordered a 26-episode animated series set in the Avatar universe titled Avatar: Seven Havens from Dimartino and Konietzko. For fans of the series, this will likely come as good news and no surprise. Back in February 2021, the duo formed Avatar Studios at Nickelodeon, intending to expand the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise in its original medium: animation.

The 2010s and 2020s saw a surge of American children's media that put queerness front and center. Take the work of N.D. Stevenson, such as the Netflix series "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power" and the animated film "Nimona," based on his graphic novel. From "Steven Universe" to "The Owl House," cartoons have gotten a lot gayer in the last decade.
And it is almost precisely a decade because Nickelodeon's "The Legend of Korra" is the show that broke down the dam in 2014. In the show's fourth and final season, Avatar Korra (Janet Varney) falls in love with her best friend, Asami Sato (Seychelle Gabriel). A sequel to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," "The Legend of Korra" is set in a fantasy world where people can bend one of the four elements. Korra, as the reincarnation of world defender the Avatar, can bend all four. If kids can accept a world that fantastical,...

One of the most celebrated fantasy cartoons in television history, Avatar: The Last Airbender largely revolves around its three heroes: Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen), Katara (Mae Whitman), and Sokka (Jack DeSena). Though they get the most attention as the protagonists of the story, they're far from the only characters one might call heroic. There are many others, even people in the more antagonistic Fire Nation, who also have noble qualities that befit such a characterization. You don't have to be perfect to be selfless and courageous, after all. It's also not necessary to be a major player in the narrative or even be a person to qualify as heroic.

The final season of The Dragon Prince will pick up in the aftermath of Season 6, and the stakes have never been higher. The penultimate season ushered in major changes. In the beginning, Aaravos’s (Erik Dellums) prison has been recovered, Viren (Jason Simpson) is done with dark magic, the Sunfire Elves are on the brink of war, and the dragon queen, Zubeia (Nicole Oliver), is injured and missing, giving the story plenty to cover. Still, the season leaves Callum (Jack De Sena), Rayla (Paula Burrows), Ezran (Sasha Rojen), and the rest in even more danger.

Making live-action adaptations of beloved animated content can be risky, especially within the fantasy genre. Most often, there's a reason that the stories were told through animation in the first place. Thanks to the expansive animation techniques that make visuals possible that would be difficult to create in real life, there are many obstacles that live-action iterations of animated fantasy TV shows face. However, this doesn't mean that these projects shouldn't happen, as they can be a great way to bring renewed interest and enthusiasm back to an underrated piece of television.
While the best animated fantasy movies are widely discussed, there are many fantastic additions to the magical side of animation on television. Famous additions to the genre, like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Adventure Time, are well known even by audiences who don't traditionally seek out animation. Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender has just cast some of Season 2's most important characters as the gang are heading to Ba Sing Se. Netflix's popular, but divisive The Last Airbender adaptation will last for three seasons on the streamer. Season 2 will see Aang, Sokka, and Katara head to Ba Sing Se to find an Earthbending master for the Avatar, where they will run into the franchise's best character, Toph (Miya Cech).
Netflix recently gave fans more good news, as the show has cast some of Season 2's biggest players. When the gang reach Ba Sing Se, they learn that the shadowy organization, the Dai Lee, are using propaganda to keep the city ignorant of the war that has raged on for over 100 years. Chin Han (Mortal Kombat) will play Long Feng, the vicious leader of the Dai Lee. To keep the gang in check, the Dai Lee appoints...

From film to television, the action genre has long been one of the best sources of escapist entertainment. Known for playing into a variety of popular tropes and clichs, it houses some brilliant heroes, eccentric villains and over-the-top premises. Since the rise of the genre, it has also been associated with comedy, with the likes of buddy cop detective movies and parodies showing how funny action can be.
The blend of comedy and action continues to be a fan favorite, both on film and TV, with such classics as Austin Powers and Get Smart being a testament to this. While some shows are a blend of multiple genres, even leaning more on horror or fantasy, others embrace parody and satire, using action as a vehicle to entertain while poking fun at a genre's tropes.

Sokka is one of the best and most beloved characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender. His signature comedy and singular determination help him stand out as a Non-Bender - even among his Bender friends and enemies. Therefore, it is devastating to learn in The Legend of Korra that not only did Aang die, but Sokka had passed as well.
Sokka is a staple character who helps the others get perspective. He is also one of the most imaginative and is known for thinking outside the box. Having both Sokka and Aang die and leaving Katara behind seems like a poor choice on the writers part. Not only did Katara lose her husband, but her brother as well. Not seeing Sokka as an old man, and not knowing how he died feels like a disservice to fans who loved him so much.

Epic animation, telling bigger and more mature stories through new styles of the animated medium, is a genre that has blown up in movies and TV in recent years, giving rise to some of the best animated fantasy TV shows of all time. Yet there are still amazing animated fantasy shows from earlier that demonstrate how the subgenre has always been brimming with potential. The best animated fantasy series ever made showcase a blend of seamless world-building, stunning animation, and heartrending stories for some of the best all-around TV experiences.
Some of these fantasy series appear to be the last outlet for 2D animation in today's industry when TV networks and anime production companies seem to be the only ones that haven't succumbed to cheaper and faster 3D animation. However, while anime has inspired some of the most exciting upcoming Netflix animated shows, stylized 3D animation has also started to take hold in TV.

Not all fantasy TV shows deliver impressive endings, but some like "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" do. High-budget fantasy projects may not always justify their costs, as seen in canceled Netflix shows and divisive finales like "Game of Thrones." A great fantasy show ending ties up loose ends, provides satisfying character conclusions, and aligns with the series' overarching themes.
Fantasy TV shows have a strong appeal, as they allow viewers to step into the extraordinary but not all of them deliver impressive endings. Sadly, many fantasy TV series never have endings at all. Netflix has canceled many fantasy shows in recent years, and it isn't the only streaming service or network to do so. Such projects often require high budgets to get right, and they don't always prove worth the cost.

Kids shows are generally lighthearted in nature; however, it's also common for popular children's shows to include cautionary episodes to alert children and teenagers of real-life dangers. Iconic coming-of-age sitcoms like Sister, Sister and Boy Meets World earned acclaim for featuring scenes related to mature themes, which is a major part of their appeal.
While some children's shows regularly explore mature themes, others do so with much less frequency. For example, although Spongebob Squarepants and That's So Raven are known for their levity, they occasionally approach topics that are significantly more serious. Still, more often than not, these dark moments fit perfectly with their show's premises and bring depth to their characters.

One of the most popular and classic character types in fantasy anime is the Prince Charming archetype. Prince Charmings tend to be virtuous, kind, conventionally handsome, and have impeccable manners. The Dark Prince is the mirror image of the Prince Charming. Most Dark Princes fall into one of three categories: morally gray, evil, or misunderstood.
Some Dark Princes were dethroned because of rumors and evil political machinations, or they deny their birthright to power. Or, like Dark Knights, they may be anti-heroes with a tortured past, vendettas, and a morose attitude. Other Dark Princes are completely evil and are the exact opposite of every Prince Charming virtue; they only care for themselves, and they're probably the one feeding the damsel in distress to the dragon rather than saving her and the kingdom.

Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced audiences to the bending arts, which was a fun spin on a tried and tested magic system that was based on the four classical elements. It fused the elements with martial arts, spirituality, and celestial objects, which was able to weave an original magic system with complex lore that intrigued fans about how the magic of the world of Avatar conducts itself.
Aang, in the Avatar State, is a key part of the magic system.
Complex magic systems like the bending arts tend to come with meticulous planning from the creators. However, there is one aspect of firbending in particular that is uncharacteristically left unexplored in the final seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender, a concept that factors heavily into the finale of the series.

Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced the world to a very creative way to work with a classic magic system: the four classical elements. The bending arts are some of the most well-conceived parts of Avatar: The Last Airbender. However, despite not being able to bend, one of the breakout characters of the show was Sokka.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has been the subject of its fair share of discourse, but Ian Ousley has an interesting perspective. The actor who plays Sokka recently explained how he feels about changing the character from animation to live-action. Nickelodeon’s fantasy series about the master of all four elements has been a beloved source of entertainment since its premiere in 2005. Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen), along with brother-sister duo Katara (Mae Whitman) and Sokka (Jack De Sena), travel the world in a coming-of-age story that is as humorous as it is emotionally resonant. Themes such as redemption, love triangles, and grief are prevalent throughout the show.

Aang, Katara, and Sokka start as young teens and quickly mature due to the pressures of the Hundred Year War. The following contains spoilers for Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1, now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender crams a lot from the original Nickelodeon cartoon from the 2000s. In this case, most of Book One: Water is adapted for Season 1. Here, Gordon Cormier's Aang is awakened 100 years after his Air Nomad tribe was wiped out by the Fire Nation.
Aang befriends the siblings Sokka (played by Ian Ousley) and Katara of the Southern Water Tribe. They all realize the Fire Nation has to be brought down in order to bring peace to all regions. However, with so many character relationships, arcs and untold histories fitting into an eight-episode first season, a few unanswered questions and odd plot holes arise.
What Happened to Katara and Sokka's Father?
Sokka and Katara (played by Kiawentiio) lost their mother years back in a raid the Fire Nation made on their tribe.

This year, Spirit has a lot of anime costumes on offer, covering a wide range of franchises. But, while many of these costumes are good, some leave a lot to be desired. Some characters don't translate well into three dimensions, some costumes don't look like what they're supposed to, and some are terrifying for all the wrong reasons.

Avatar the Last Airbender is known for its amazing characters and storytelling. It may be a Western-animated series, but it blends into the genre of anime so well that most anime fans consider it to be an anime. Something this series is especially good at is writing female characters that are well-rounded and relatable.
This is especially true for Katara who is kind and loving, but also strong, stubborn, and determined. She is beloved because she has good personality traits and negative ones that make her feel more real.

"Good Burger" is a rather unlikely success story of '90s kids' entertainment. Back in the '90s, Nickelodeon created a sketch comedy show titled "All That," which was essentially the kids' version of "Saturday Night Live." It ran absurd sketches and launched the careers of many actors like Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon, Katrina Johnson, Jack DeSena, Kel Mitchell, and Kenan Thompson — who would go on to become the longest-reigning "SNL" cast member ever.
And just like "SNL," "All That" would see some sketches turn into spin-offs, with the biggest one being "Good Burger." In the sketches, Kenan and Kel starred as Dexter and Ed, two fast food joint workers who get into all sorts of hijinks. The movie was directed by Brian Robbins, who would go on to become president and CEO of Paramount Pictures.
In the years since the first "Good Burger," Thompson and Mitchell have teased a sequel numerous times,...
