Resident Alien has been a delight since its premiere in 2021, seamlessly blending situational comedy with sci-fi world-building and a quirky imagination. Season 3, perhaps its best yet, premiered more than one year ago, and fans are eagerly awaiting Season 4 as the show heads to the USA Network.

There's a kindness and a deep understanding of the human condition laced throughout that show, and it constantly reminds me of possibly my favorite sci-fi comedy on television, a very similar (and arguably even better) series from 2016 that aired on TBS. It developed a small but loyal cult following in Season 2 after word-of-mouth spread, and was renewed for Season 3. Until it wasn't.

Resident Alien is a sci-fi adventure mystery comedy-drama series created by Chris Sheridan. Based on the comic book of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, the Syfy series is set in a small Colorado town, and it follows an alien who crash-lands on Earth and takes on the form of a vacationing physician after killing him. Bob's Burgers is one of the funniest animated sitcoms, currently in its 15th season. The series centers around the Belcher family: Bob and Linda and their kids, Tina, Gene and Louise, as they work in their struggling burger restaurant. Bob's Burgers, much like most animated sitcoms, doesn't have a lot of continuity. Instead, the series follows the Belchers and other characters and the different adventures and hijinks they get into. And like most animated sitcoms, too, the ages of the characters can be a little blurry.

While the ages of most Bob's Burgers characters are mentioned at one point or another, their birthdates aren't. Characters can be the same age for many years until they celebrate a birthday, as happens in most animated sitcoms. Over its 15 seasons on the air, Bob's Burgers has produced some amazingly hilarious quotes, and Regular Sized Rudy has been the source of some of the best. The Fox animated series premiered in 2011, featuring almost 300 episodes and even a theatrical movie release. Voiced by Brian Huskey, Regular Sized Rudy made his debut in the third season episode, "Carpe Museum," and has been one of the show's highlighted characters ever since.

Easily one of the best characters introduced after Bob's Burgers season 1, Regular Sized Rudy earned his name because there was another Rudy in the kids' school (named Pocket Sized Rudy) and he has since become a close friend to all three Belcher children. In her new uInterview, Orange Is The New Black star Beth Dover shared how she used her comedy skills in her latest role as Molly Arden in Helen’s Dead.

The film focuses on a group of people who find a dead body at a dinner party, which her character attends to write an expose on.

“Basically, it’s sort of the aftermath of that,” Dover explained to uInterview founder Erik Meers. “So it’s like, what if a bunch of people went to a dinner party and found a dead body? But all of these people are slightly self-involved, maybe slightly unlikeable. And what happens when they find a dead body?”

Dover described the film as a “madcap adventure. It’s like sort of in the style of Clue, maybe.”

The actress shared that she was able to do some improv work with her castmates while on set, which was memorable for her.

If you’re in the mood for a gory little dark comedy, Helen’S Dead might allay your craving. The tale plays out in one arduous night (apart from a few flashbacks) at a small, rather fancy dinner party. The host (Brian Huskey) is an uptight foodie; his wife (Annabelle Dexter-Jones) is an even more uptight “influencer.” Guests include her sister, Helen (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz), their cousin Addie (Dylan Gelula), a jerk (Emile Hirsch) who’d been involved with both, a writer (Beth Dover) and a couple of unexpected visitors. The film opens with one of them announcing she’s just found Helen dead in another room, then brings us up to and beyond that point, with further casualties, motives and suspects in play.

The episode explores Rudy's bittersweet relationship with magic and how it served as a coping mechanism for his parents' divorce. Louise Belcher unexpectedly becomes an ally to Rudy, showcasing the Belcher family's love for their community and capacity for tenderness.

In "The Amazing Rudy," Bob's Burgers deviated from the show's usual formula, focusing on side character Rudolph "Regular Sized Rudy" Stieblitz rather than the central Belcher family's shenanigans. Though the Belchers still played a crucial role in the episode, they served instead as support to Rudy after a big magic trick went awry at a particularly stressful family dinner.

This sojourn into a background character's perspective enlightened the surprisingly bittersweet origins behind Rudy's relationship with magic, a crucial part of his personality.

“The cast is just stellar,” states “Lucky Hank” editor Richard Schwadel in our recent webchat. He continues, “It’s such a treat to watch dailies and put scenes together that made me laugh or made me cry. In the first episode, he trashes his student’s work. That was difficult. But Bob Odenkirk is such an amazing actor. Just a look or a grunt says so much. For me it was a challenge to make sure he was likable, but keep that edge to his character.”

Review: Bob Odenkirk is one hell of an actor. The accomplished comedian joined Breaking Bad as Saul Goodman in what many of us assumed was a comic relief role before turning in a bravura performance as the lawyer in his spin-off, Better Call Saul. While earning acclaim in that role, Odenkirk became an unexpected action hero in Nobody, proving his versatility across genres. Now, Odenkirk blends his dramatic and comedic chops for a new AMC series, Lucky Hank. Based on the Richard Russo novel Straight Man, Lucky Hank is a biting and satirical comedy that is equally serious and funny, with a substantial leading role for Odenkirk as the title character.

Time for some inside baseball: reviewing TV can be tricky. When I review a movie, I'm always given a full picture; a beginning, middle, and end. TV is a different beast, because most of the time, networks will only send out a handful of episodes to review instead of a full season. And as almost anyone can tell you, a lot of TV shows take a little time to get to that sweet spot. It's very rare to have a show that's firing on all cylinders right out of the gate — unless the show is an episodic sitcom, you need time to spend with the characters as they deal with their various ever-unfolding conflicts.

It has been 26 years since “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America” hit theaters, and 11 have gone by since the eighth season of “Beavis and Butt-Head” aired on MTV. But nothing is ever truly dead in the age of streaming, and Mike Judge’s slacker cartoon characters are about to come back in a big way.

In addition to the planned revival of the television series, which has already been given a two-season order, Paramount+ is gearing up to release a second movie, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.” The film was written, directed, and produced by Judge, who also voices the eponymous characters. While the initial film was a road trip comedy that spanned the United States of America, Judge’s sequel has even bigger aims, taking the characters to outer space and beyond.

Two of television’s most iconic idiots are back. “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe,” a new animated feature film starring the ’90s MTV characters, is set to premiere on Paramount+ June 23.

The news was announced alongside the release of the official trailer for the film (see below), which sees Beavis and Butt-Head (both voiced by creator Mike Judge), on a space mission with NASA in 1998 (the year after the original series ended) and winding up in the year 2022. As the Nsa and the U.S. government track them down, the two struggle to adjust to modern life, while retaining their childish sense of humor.

Originally created by Judge for the MTV animated anthology series “Liquid Television,” Beavis and Butt-Head are two teenage slackers who share an extreme libido and complete inability to attract women. The characters proved popular enough to launch their own spinoff series, which ran for 200 episodes across seven seasons.

Beavis and Butt-Head, the iconic and delightfully idiotic animated duo of the ’90s, are making their return to screens after more than 10 years with “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.”

Paramount+ announced Thursday that the upcoming original movie will premiere on the streaming service Thursday, June 23, along with the film’s trailer debut. In addition to the new movie, Paramount+ will stream the full library of 200+ remastered episodes of the long-running “Beavis and Butt-Head” series, with a new series in the works set to debut later this year.

Linda and Mr. Fischoeder are teaming up to sing an ode to bananas in a new sneak peek at Sunday’s episode of “Bob’s Burgers,” and who doesn’t love a good duet?

With lyrics like “I like bananas in muffins and scones / I like bananas when I’m making a phone,” the song appears not to be the Hoosier Hot Shots novelty song “I Like Bananas (Because They Have No Bones),” but a completely different song about a different set of reasons to be fond of the yellow fruit.

The clip comes from Sunday’s episode “Copa-Bob-bana,” in which Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) agrees to be the temporary chef at the Fischoeders’ new nightclub. Meanwhile, the kids get a hold of a stock tank and decide to throw a pool party in the restaurant basement.

A new promo for the upcoming 11th season released by Fox on Tuesday, teases an upcoming episode titled “Worms of In-Rear-Ment” in which a pinworm epidemic hits the local community, derailing Linda’s plans to take her family to the symphony. Maybe not a global coronavirus pandemic, but still pretty bad.

The new season of “Bob’s Burgers” premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 on Fox.

“Bob’s Burgers” is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The series is created and is executive-produced by Loren Bouchard and Jim Dauterive. Nora Smith, Dan Fybel, Rich Rinaldi, Greg Thompson and Jon Schroeder also executive producer.

HGTV announced that “Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa” has been renewed for a second season. The 2021 installment of the show will follow a one-hour format, as Tarek El Moussa teaches tips and tricks for profiting from home renovation to new and prospective house flippers. One special episode will also feature El Moussa’s girlfriend, Heather Rae Young. The season, which will feature 12 new episodes, is produced by Tom Brickner.

There aren’t many stories as grody as the one being told in Mope. For those who don’t know the true tale, I’ll keep the salacious details to be discovered, but for those who know what this film is about, it isn’t hard to imagine the avenues being taken here. While the flick is pretty grimy, there’s an undercurrent of trying for something more. Mope doesn’t pull it off, despite its Boogie Nights ambitions, but it is somewhat encouraging to see the concept not executed with a lowest common denominator feel. You’ll need a shower after watching this, but you’ll also be left with a bit to think about. It’s a missed opportunity, but one not without some redeeming qualities. "You'll do anything I ask?" Quiver has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Mope, which first premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival. It also played at the Cinepocalypse, Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival, and Fantasy Filmfest in Germany last year. Based on a true crime story by Michael Louis Albo, the film is a dark comedy about the multibillion-dollar world of pornography, the term "mope" refers to a low-level, wannabe porn actor. In this tragic true story, Stephen and Herbert, respectively known by their porn alter egos Steve Driver and Tom Dong, were two such mopes—real-life best friends attempting to live the impossible dream. This all looks as crazy and twisted and wacky as it sounds. Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Steve and Kelly Sry as Tom, with David Arquette, Max Adler, Tonya Cornelisse, Clayton Rohner, Brian Huskey, and Peggy Dunne. This seems totally ridiculous, but ridiculous in a good way.

Two-time Emmy-nominated Veep actor Matt Walsh and Isla Fisher are set to star in Unplugging, a new comedy Walsh co-wrote with Brad Morris (Cougar Town). The pic will mark the directorial debut of editor Debra Neil-Fisher.

Veep season 7 episode 3, "Pledge," aims for higher ground, but gets fatigued on the way and winds up digging deeper into the black hole we call politics. Leading into the first debates, the party goes progressive and the presidential campaign gets progressively worse. The title refers to an impromptu election promise not to go negative we're positive will only hobble a highly charged race.

The episode opens with Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) disparaging the "Kemistry" of her former protégé, and current rival, United States Senator from New York Kemi Talbot (Toks Olagundoye). Kent Davison (Gary Cole) begins explaining the sociopolitical significance of protest candidates, and she puts up a hand and says "off." For a moment, it looks like the long-time logarithmic political advisor actually shuts down.

More than two years ago, prior to “Veep” Season 6, much was made about the effect Donald Trump would have on HBO’s political satire. One of the more provocative films that screened as part of the Midnight lineup at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Lucas Heyne’s Mope, which is centered around the real-life experiences of two low-level porn stars (generally referred to as “Mopes”) who are chasing fame and women, but their dreams and lives are both tragically cut short. While in Park City last week, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Heyne and several of the cast members from Mope, including David Arquette, Brian Huskey, Kelly Sry, Max Adler, and Tonya Cornelisse, and they chatted about the parallels between the film’s two main characters and their own struggles in Hollywood, the weight of creating a film based on true events, helping erase the stigma surrounding pornography and sex workers, and more.

First off, it is important that the definition of mope is clear: a mope is a person in the porn industry operating in the lowest possible positions, usually angling for a chance to make it big. This includes doing some truly gross, demeaning things. It’s also important to know that this film is based on a true story. For Nathan Stewart-Jarrett’s Steve Hill–he likes to be called Steve Driver–and Tom Dong (Kelly Sry), being a mope is okay. For a while, at least. The two meet at a bukkake film shoot and become fast friends. Directed by Lucas Heyne, Mope is an incredibly dark showbiz comedy that pulls no punches, for better or worse.

Thanks to Steve’s intense optimism and Tom’s It savvy, the new duo land jobs as live-in mopes for Eric (Brian Huskey), a disgusting porn producer who runs a bottom-of-the-barrel studio.

Lucas Heyne’s feature directing debut Mope will have its world premiere later this month in the Midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival. Deadline has the first look at the movie co-written by Zack Newkirk and Heyne and produced by Parkside Pictures in association with Saxton Cinema & Uncooperative Pictures.

The drama is based on the true story of a real-life murder in 2010 at a San Fernando Valley porn company. That’s where Stephen Clancy Hill, a mope (slang for a wannabe porn star), who was living in the company’s warehouse at the time, went on a rampage with a sword when he was told he was fired. He eventually killed his friend and fellow mope Herbert Wong, who tried to intervene when Hill was attacking two others. Hill was killed in a standoff with police five days later.
