New Delhi, Aug 3 (Ians) As the 51st Gst Council meeting stayed firm on taxing online gaming at 28 per cent on gross value collected, industry players on Thursday once again criticised the decision, saying that taxing Gst on deposits rather than the technology platform commission charged by the companies will make the unit economics unviable, wiping out 80 per cent of the industry.
Most of the fatalities will be concentrated in MSMEs and startups that house new age business models, according to them.
“This increase of 400 per cent will solely encourage the rise of monopolistic play. Reasonable taxation can protect our over 500 million internet consumers from illegal offshore products,” said Saumya Singh Rathore, Co-founder, WinZO.
In a joint statement, the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports and E-Gaming Federation said that the new tax framework, while clarifying and resolving uncertainty, will lead to a very burdensome 350 per cent increase in Gst and set...

ReviewThough Raavana Kottam has an interesting plotline and fitting background score that maintains tension, there is little to redeem the no-nuance script. The film falls into a trap of cliches while trying hard to give a hot take on caste discrimination. YouTube ScreengrabIn one of the opening shots of Raavana Kottam, you see Bose (played by Prabhu) at the door of his house with nine other faux heads. The heads are actually photos hung in Bose’s house and belong to various leaders like Dr Br Ambedkar, Muthuramalinga Thevar, late Ltte chief Prabhakaran, Periyar, and Subhash Chandra Bose, among others. This clever camera trick featuring an ideologically varied medley of leaders sets the tone for the confusing politics employed in the film. Written and directed by Vikram Sugumaran, Raavana Kottam features Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Anandhi, and Prabhu in lead roles. The movie is set in the ‘caste-free’ utopian village of Enathi in the Ramnad district.
