The upcoming weekend boasts an onslaught of new Specialty titles vying for audiences. In all likelihood, however, many will have a short big screen life as the fall’s awards contenders ramp up and crowd others out. Five of this week’s dozen-plus newcomers are spotlighted here with Fox Searchlight’s The Drop edging on a wide release. The feature starring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini will bow in over 800 theaters. TWC’s The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby also joins the fray with a platform release. The film also has two accompanying titles told from the perspective of its two main characters, which will be released in more limited runs in October. Magnolia will open its thriller Honeymoon in a day and date release while Dada Films’ Swearnet: The Movie breaks a movie record with the most F-bombs ever. And Cohen Media Group’s My Old Lady bowed Wednesday in limited release.

To say that Canadian comedy hits rock bottom in this abhorrent meta-infomercial for a Funny or Die-like network boasting uncensored online content is the politest way to describe two ugly hours of smug, doughy misogynists saying "fuck" some 935 record-breaking times.

It's almost September, which means a whole new slew of titles on Netflix! August proved pretty lucrative on the quality title front, but it looks as though September it's going to blow the rundown out of the water.
TV takes spotlight this month, with the latest full seasons of "The Walking Dead," "New Girl," "The League," "The Blacklist," "Arrow," "Bones," and "Parks and Recreation" primed and ready for streaming before their fall premieres. And fans still mourning the loss of "How I Met Your Mother" (in more ways than one) can rewatch the ninth and final season to their heart's content. Ah, memories. Showtime's recently departed "Californication" can be seen in its entirety (Seasons 1 -7) as well, starting September 1. That's a lot of TV.

*** Warning: Very Explicit Video -- Foul Language And Nudity ***
The Boys are back -- but not in the roles you're used to.
In "Swearnet," John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells and Mike Smith play themselves -- three guys burnt out on the idea of being known solely as the Trailer Park Boys, who want to try something new.
That something new is Swearnet, a website/streaming video network showcasing the mischief and debauchery that only the Boys could get up to. Yes, it exists in real life, and "Swearnet" the movie is a fictional rundown of how the idea began.
For those of you unfamiliar with Tremblay, Wells and Smith, please be advised the video is not for the weak -- there is so much swearing it's pretty much every second word. Sometimes every word. Plus, we meet "Swearnet" mascot Swearman, who's ... oh, you have to see for yourself.

For three seasons now, RuPaul’s Drag Race has announced its winner at a reunion special. Does that make it the best reality show with the worst finale? While I preferred the old way of announcing a winner, I don’t miss the “surprise” of seeing someone like Tyra Sanchez take the crown.
TVLine reports that TNT is developing a spin-off series of Major Crimes, one that sounds more like a spin-off of The Closer. The series will focus on Jon Tenney‘s Special Agent Fritz Howard. An episode in the upcoming season will set it up. TVLine says there’s also talk of a spin-off focusing on Malcolm-Jamal Warner‘s character from last season.

Canada's favourite trio is back on the big screen with "Trailer Park Boys: Don't Legalize It," and it's almost like they never left us.
After taking a brief hiatus from the world of cinema, Ricky, Julian and Bubbles have returned to tell the story of how they all found their way back to each other. At the start of the movie, things aren't looking good: Bubbles is living under J-Rock's porch, Julian is selling "clean" pee for drug tests, and Ricky is relatively successful with his marijuana grow-op business -- until the Canadian government says they're contemplating legalizing the drug, thus rendering his livelihood obsolete.
Moviefone Canada caught up with the boys at their Toronto hotel to talk about "Don't Legalize It," Toronto Mayor Rob Ford running for re-election, and their thoughts on Justin Bieber's legal troubles.

After the success they enjoyed with reviving “Arrested Development” last May, Netflix will once again become the necromancers of television. This time, they will be giving a second life to the popular Canadian series “Trailer Park Boys” with two new seasons and two feature films confirmed. “Trailer Park Boys,” which has been off the air since 2007, follows the residents of Nova Scotia’s Sunnyvale Trailer Park lead by Ricky (Robb Wells), Julian (John Paul Tremblay), and Bubbles (Mike Smith). The Do Something Awards aren’t your average self-congratulatory Hollywood back-patting-palooza. Sure, there were celebrities and prizes. And press. And time-filling banter, limos and designer dresses. But a closer look revealed subtle differences like the bold chartreuse carpet instead of the standard stretch of red rug, the “overwhelming amount of positivity in the air” as honoree Jennifer Hudson pointed out and the fact that Kelly Osbourne was there to collect a trophy instead of critique couture.

Here’s something to lessen the thrill for Community fans excited about creator Dan Harmon‘s return: Vulture broke the news that Donald Glover will only appear in five (out of the thirteen ordered) episodes this season, as Glover wanted time to focus on his music. While that’s good news for fans of Glover’s rapper persona Childish Gambino, that means Community viewers are getting eight episodes of Abed without Troy.
Maybe Puppet Troy could take over for a couple episodes?
Jezebel imagines what Jenny McCarthy would bring to The View as a permanent host. There’s nothing that could get me interested in watching again.
The stars of Canadian cult comedy Trailer Park Boys can hope for new episodes soon. The series’ three lead actors — Robb Wells, John Paul Tremblay and Mike Smith — have purchased the rights to the series with an eye to putting new episodes online.

Another day, another TV show that's been revived by the Internet. This time around it's Canadian cult fave Trailer Park Boys, which originally ran from 2001-2008. Actors Robb Wells, John Paul Tremblay, and Mike Smith—who play the titular Boys and co-wrote the series' original run—bought the rights to the series back from creator Mike Clattenburg and his co-producers, and plan on filming a season's worth of new episodes. The new episodes will air on Swearnet.com, a web portal created by the three actors. In a shocking breach of TV-revival protocol, the trio of actors ...

Last week brought Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut to the shelves in Coriolanus, in which he starred as the eponymous lead alongside Gerard Butler, as well as the likes of Michael Dowse’s Goon, and Madonna’s W.E.
This week has, as ever, a fantastic new selection of films and TV programmes available for purchase from today, including three of my all-time favourite TV programmes. On top of that, there’s an Oscar winner, an Oscar nominee, and one film that everyone was talking about in the run-up to the awards season but was noticeably absent when the Academy Award nominees were announced in January.
My personal picks of the week:
With so much choice, I was forced to divide into two categories of film and TV this week:
James Bobbins’ The Muppets & Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar
Entourage Season 8, Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 8 & One Tree Hill Season 9

This year marks an important anniversary in the Star Trek universe as Trekkies celebrate the 45th anniversary of the broadcast of the original series (Tos) episode “Space Seed” which first brought us Khan Noonien Singh. It also marks the 30th anniversary of the Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan motion picture, which many believe saved the Star Trek franchise.
Following the rather slow Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which, according to Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, failed across the board in terms of art direction, music, and writing, Khan offered a powerful and charismatic bad guy for Kirk and his crew. For those who may not know, Khan, played by Ricardo Montalban, was a super-human from the late 20th century who possessed superior strength and intelligence as a result of genetic engineering. Captain Kirk and the Enterprise crew encountered Khan and a few other super-humans when they come...

We all know that we Brits love a good deal – you only have to look at our seemingly unquenchable love for all things Groupon or our addiction to a TV show where a bearded millionaire conducts imaginary conversations about empty boxes to realise that. So what if I told you you could buy yourself six full seasons of the greatest sitcom ever made for under eighteen quid? I think I already know the answer when I ask (with a respectful tip of the cap to Entourage’s Bob Ryan) – is that something you might be interested in?

The key 3 actors who portrayed "The Trailer Park Boys", star in the new series "The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour", debuting July 22, 2011 on the Shaw Media specialty channel 'Action'.
Originally produced for Showcase in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the six-part mini-series reunites actors Mike Smith, Robb Wells and J.P. Tremblay:
"...Set in the sleepy fictional town of 'Port Cockerton', the series catches up with 'Mike', 'Robb' and 'Jp' in the midst of shooting their new sketch-variety TV show called 'The Happy Funtime Hour'. Disastrously, an actor hired to play a wacky German scientist, assumes the personality of his character after synthesizing a powerful and addictive hallucinogen derived from local berries. Chaos ensues in town as the cast ingests the drugs and begins to believe they really are the characters they portray on the show – including deranged pirates, drug-addled playboys from a 1980's television show and a group of not-so-super superheroes.

Honesty is a quality all too undervalued in critics (it usually takes a back seat to the ability to create short, penetrating little missiles of inanity that can be featured on a film’s poster come awards season), so I’ll come clean with you right now: I walked into Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day fully expecting to hate it, and already crafting impossibly clever sentiments designed to let everyone know just how awful it was. But I didn’t hate it. I certainly didn’t like it, and I didn’t laugh once, but it defied my expectations as to what I was about to see in ways that weren’t really pleasing, though I’m still a little befuddled by.

Not so long ago, I would never have imagined myself settling down to willingly watch a Trailer Park Boys movie. Despite being assured that their television series was "actually really funny," I had assumed that trailer park humour was synonymous with redneck humour, and therefore antonymous with meaux humour. However, after losing a battle for the remote control one evening and watching a few episodes, it soon became apparent that I was sorely mistaken; the comedy of the Trailer Park Boys, a faux-documentary series starring a none-too-bright trio of opportunistic schemers, was far more in the vein of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" than Larry the Cable Guy, and I had clearly been missing out.
"Trailer Park Boys," the series, aired on Canada's Showcase channel from 2001 to 2007. Set in the fictional Sunnyvale Trailer Park in my home province of Nova Scotia, it chronicled the exploits of three friends as they...

Showcase Television has greenlit six episodes of a new TV series from Trailer Park Boys actors Robb Wells, Mike Smith and J.P. Tremblay. The Drunk and On Drugs Happy Funtime Hour described as a mix of narrative and sketch comedy, intends to prove to the legions of Tpb fans that the boys can really act and did not just play themselves during their seven seasons on TV and in two feature films. In the new series, the trio will play various characters, including the three stars of a fictional children's TV series The Happy Funtime Hour, with Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson playing a German scientist who teaches children about nutrition by recommending hallucinogenic 'magic berries' (?!) "The series is definitely a departure from our previous work," said Wells who played 'Ricky' on Tpb. "But with bold characters and a storyline that pushes the envelope, Drunk and On Drugs still...
