Near the beginning of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi flick "The Empire Strikes Back," the psychic rebel warrior Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is riding alone through the snowy drifts of the distant planet Hoth, mounted on the back of a bipedal beast of burden called a tauntaun. He is on the lookout for any sign of the Empire, hunting the rebels after the destruction of their superweapon, the Death Star. Rather suddenly, Luke is attacked by a wampa, a humanoid yeti native to the planet. The wampa kills the tauntaun, claws Luke, and drags the hapless rebel back to its lair, presumably to be eaten.
The wampa is only seen in flashes. Luke sees a roaring face for a split second and a waving claw. For the 1997 Special Edition of "The Empire Strikes Back" — a notorious re-release that remastered and reworked most of the effects shots — a full-bodied shot of the wampa was included.

The Empire Strikes remains one of the most iconic films of all time, while many regard it as the best entry in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. With Star Wars day around the corner, fans must be looking to revisit The Empire Strikes, known for its ground-breaking visuals, including one scene where Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker faces a deadly creature, Wampa.

However, filming the Wampa scene was not as straightforward as it seems, because the creature was created practically without the use of CGI. Nonetheless, the original plan of action did not work, forcing the team to improvise and devise an inventive solution. Here is how the Wampa scene in The Empire Strikes was originally intended to be shot and why Lucas replaced it for the special edition.

Bette Midler might have been channel surfing Saturday when she tweeted out a query: “Is it too late for me to become a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills? I’ve never watched it, but I am in the mood to talk some s–t. And to get paid for it? A dream!”
The legendary entertainer even got the cosign from “Real Housewives” network Bravo and producer Andy Cohen.
“Talk about a glorious crossover,” the official @BravoTV X account tweeted.
“It’s time!” Cohen added.
Responding to Cohen with a retweet, Midler shared what she thinks her “Housewives” tagline would be: “I think my tagline should be, ‘Those Beaches don’t know what’s about to hit ’em!!'”

It's not easy being a wampa. You're furry and pretty cute, and all you want is a nice frozen treat after a long, hard day hunting tauntauns on Hoth. You get yourself a snack and stick him to the ceiling for later, and what happens? He escapes! You did that work for nothing, and now you're dead. As it turns out, it wasn't exactly easy for the people playing the wampa in "Star Wars: Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back," both the original and the shots added for the special edition release of the film. (Des Webb played him in the original and Ilm computer graphics modeler Howie Weed -- who has the nickname "wampa sir" -- in the special edition.)
According to "Star Wars Insider" issue #33 from 1997, the original plan for the wampa shots had to be abandoned because of the physical difficulties, the stilts, the snow, and...

South Park is not what you would consider a sentimental show. Yet, for the many years the animated classic has been on the air, it’s proven that it has a soft spot for holiday joy. Sure, that soft spot just happens to include a sentient Christmas turd but that’s just the closest you’re going to get to ooey-gooey feelings with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
In its earlier seasons, South Park‘s schedule often ran through December and the show was happy to provide viewers with an accompanying Christmas special. Christmas episodes have become rarer for the series since but there are still at least 10 distinct holiday installments in the show’s canon…and that’s not even including “The Spirit of Christmas” short from 1995 that would eventually become South Park.
In the spirit of the season, we decided to go ahead and rank all of the South Park Christmas specials!

Lisa Rinna upset Kathy Hilton on last night’s Rhobh when she ordered the Wrong tequila. Pic credit. Bravo
Monsters and Critics columnist Liz Long recaps The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Season 12, Episode 18, Rocky Mountain Bye, with a little help from a shot of tequila (or two.)
Hello Housewives-Lovers!
Last night, we continued on our Aspen trip from Hell, and the episode was all about the tequila, hats, and, you guessed it– fights!
Only, this time, we didn’t have Sutton as the mean girls’ target.
In fact, new “teams” were formed.
We had Dorit siding with Erika and Diana.
We had Crystal popping off to Ej And Dorit – hitting every mark along the way.
And we had Kyle, who cried almost the entire episode because her feelings were hurt by just about everyone.
And if you couldn’t guess what the drink of choice of the night is.

Five-time Best Comedy Guest Actress Emmy nominee Laurie Metcalf just made good on her latest bid for HBO Max’s “Hacks” despite being second in Gold Derby’s Creative Arts odds behind Jane Lynch (“Only Murders in the Building”). This win is her first in this category and fourth overall, following three consecutive supporting victories for the sitcom “Roseanne” from 1992 to 1994. She was previously recognized here for non-regular appearances on “3rd Rock from the Sun” (1999), “Monk” (2006), “Desperate Housewives” (2007) and “The Big Bang Theory” (2016).
Aside from Lynch (who took this prize in 2019 for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Metcalf’s challengers in this contest were Harriet Walter (“Ted Lasso”) and three other actresses from “Hacks”: Jane Adams, Harriet Sansom Harris and Kaitlin Olson. Adams was nominated for the same series last year, while Lynch has two more past guest notices to her name for “Two and a Half Men” (2010) and “Maisel...

Emmy darling Laurie Metcalf has added another nomination to her tally, thanks to her performance as no-nonsense tour manager Weed on HBO Max’s “Hacks.” Though she is frequently invited to TV’s big night as a nominee, it has been 28 years since the actress won her last award. Can her latest nomination in the Best Comedy Guest Actress race break that dry spell?
This bid marks Metcalf’s 12th Emmy nomination. She first competed in Best Comedy Supporting Actress for “Roseanne” in 1992 and won that category for three consecutive years (1992-94), with an additional nomination in 1995. A string of guest acting nominations followed for her stints on “3rd Rock From the Sun” (1999), “Monk” (2006) and “Desperate Housewives” (2007). Then the Oscar nominee pulled off three Emmy nominations in a single year in 2016: Best Comedy Guest Actress for “The Big Bang Theory,” Best Drama Guest Actress for “Horace and Pete” and...

At the 2016 Emmys, Laurie Metcalf earned three acting nominations, proving her versatility and her popularity in the industry. The actress, a three-time winner for “Roseanne,” collected bids for “Getting On,” her only time nominated as a lead, and for her guest spots on “The Big Bang Theory” and “Horace and Pete.” Two years later, she earned her first career Oscar nomination, for her supporting role in “Lady Bird” (2017). Now at the upcoming 2022 Emmys, Metcalf has a chance of repeating her Emmy triple play with nominations for three other shows — “The Conners,” “The Dropout” and “Hacks.”
