In British writer-director Bryn Chaney’s feature debut, he uses Celtic folklore and the intimacy of sound to unpack a darkness that some might struggle to put in words.
Set in 1973, Rabbit Trap stars Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen as Darcy and Daphne, an influential musical couple from London who retreats to an isolated cabin in the Welsh countryside to finish their next album. But when Darcy records a sound not meant for human ears, he accidentally conjures ancient mystical beings from the forest.
Best viewed in Dolby, the film utilizes hypnotic sounds in every scene, largely through the field recordings made by Darcy in the surrounding woods. In addition to sounds of dripping water, clanging metal and crunching grass, Darcy demonstrates how the medium is sacred as he explains that “sound is a ghost … and your body is the house it haunts.”

After the viral Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest held in New York City in October, several other contests began to pop up across the globe, from a Harry Styles one in London to a Paul Mescal one in Dublin. Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel got his very own lookalike competition in San Francisco in November in an event that gathered over 500 people. When asked whether he had heard about the event, the actor instantly laughs and lets out a hearty: “Oh, yes. I have heard all about it!”
“I’m surprised more than five people showed up,” he continues. “I was quite overwhelmed by it and very touched. I also gotta say that I think most of the men who showed up were far more handsome and qualified than I am. I think I would have lost at my own lookalike contest, for sure.”

Writer/director Kyle Edward Ball’s experimental micro-budget horror film Skinamarink proved to be quite divisive when it was given a theatrical release last year, followed by a release through the Shudder streaming service. Some viewers found the movie to be terrifying, while others found it to be mind-numbingly boring… but regardless of the response, it was made on a budget of $15,000 and earned over $2 million during its theatrical run, so it was a financial success. Now, Variety reports that Ball has set up his next horror film, teaming up with A24 to bring us something called The Land of Nod.
Ball will be writing and directing The Land of Nod, but plot details are being kept under wraps for now. All we know is that it’s a horror project that will be distributed by A24, and that it’s being produced by Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Josh Safdie...

Kyle Edward Ball, the mastermind behind 2022's bone-chilling box office hit Skinamarink, is partnering with A24 for his next horror hit, intriguingly entitled The Land of Nod. Known for his debut feature film's clever utilization of a microbudget to create macro-level frights, Ball's new project is already slated for a global release, causing fans of his work to wonder what the up-and-coming director can achieve with A24's blockbuster-sized budgets.
Plot details about The Land of Nod are few and far between so far, but Ball has been confirmed as both a writer and director. However, when speaking to Variety back in 2022 after the release of Skinamarink, Ball did tease some ideas for future projects such as a twisted take on the Pied Piper legend, and a film about three strangers who dream about the same house but it's unclear whether these ideas will be included in The Land of Nod.

One of Mutant's first releases is the original motion picture soundtrack for "Lisa Frankenstein," so you can relive all the glorious, creepy '80s goodness whenever the urge to build your own undead boyfriend beckons.

Established in 2004, Mondo forever changed the landscape of pop culture collectibles — from t-shirts to screen printed movie posters, vinyl soundtracks, toys, board games and even home goods, the company elevated fandom from a hobby to a lifestyle. It has not only inspired dozens of similar businesses worldwide and propelled the consumption of physical media, but minted a team that quickly and widely became known for its passion, creativity and shrewd decisionmaking. On Monday, four of their former leaders — led by Eric Garza, Mitch Putnam, Spencer Hickman and Mo Shafeek — debuted a new endeavor leveraging their experience, relationships and reputation: Mutant.
Led by CEO Jenny Jacobi, a Vidiots Foundation advisory board member and seven-year Alamo Drafthouse veteran, the quartet will produce posters, music, apparel and more. The announcement them a chance to start fresh after exiting Mondo, now under the ownership of vinyl figurine company Funko Inc.

We’re unable to stamp Rabbit Trap with an actual 2023 production start date so this guesstimate might be completely off but short film and commercials director British-Australian Bryn Chainey has had a steak knife firmly planted in the genre for a while now (his short Kill Your Dinner premiered at the Berlinale in 2016). Sung Kang, who is best known for playing the fan favorite role of Han in the Fast and Furious franchise, has made his feature directorial debut with the ’90s-set creature feature Shaky Shivers, which is set to receive a one-night theatrical release from Cinedigm and Fathom Events on September 21st (tickets are available at This Link.) Yesterday, we shared an interview in which Robert Englund confirmed that his days of playing Freddy Krueger are over – and for his replacement in the role, Englund suggested an actor whose name comes up frequently when people fan cast a new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie: Kevin Bacon. Bacon seems open to the idea, but there’s another actor out there who’s eager to take his turn wearing the glove and fedora. In response to the interview with Englund, Devon Sawa sent out a tweet saying, “I’d love to follow in his footsteps and play Freddie.” Forgive him for misspelling the name. It’s a common mistake.
Sawa is a genre regular whose credits include Final Destination, Idle Hands, Hunter Hunter, Black Friday, The Fanatic, and the Chucky TV series – where he played three different characters over the course of two seasons.

There are a lot of big names in the genre who want to get the chance to make a new entry in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, so it’s baffling that we never hear anything about such a project making any sort of progress. Elijah Wood and his SpectreVision producing partner Daniel Noah have said they want to make an Elm Street movie and have “been in touch with the rights holders many times”. Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has said he’s interested in going to Elm Street. Guy Busick, co-writer of Scream 2022 and the upcoming Scream 6, let it be known he wants to write Elm Street and Friday the 13th movies. And way back in 2019, Mike Flanagan tweeted that he had a pitch for a new Nightmare on Elm Street. Three and a half years later, during a conversation on the Script Apart podcast,...

The 1980s pop culture phenomenon Max Headroom is getting a reboot at AMC. Original star Matt Frewer will reprise his role as the world’s first artificial intelligence TV personality, with Halt and Catch Fire co-creator Christopher Cantwell serving as writer and showrunner. The reboot will be produced by Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah’s SpectreVision and All3Media, according to Deadline. The character was first seen in the TV movie Max Headroom: 20 Minutes in the Future, which was then developed into a TV series in the United States. Max was known for biting commentary on topical issues, his arrogant wit, stuttering, and a pitch-shifting voice. The character was advertised as “computer-generated,” but it was Frewer playing him with the help of creative costumes, lighting, and editing effects. After shooting into popularity with the TV movie, the character appeared in commercials, hosted a music-video show, was referenced across many shows and...

If you thought the matrix was glitching before, wait’ll Max Headroom is back onscreen.
The 1980s pseudo-artificial-intelligence talking head is in development as a drama series at AMC, TheWrap has confirmed. Matt Frewer, who has portrayed the glitchy video jockey (and his human counterpart Edison Carter) since 1985, will re-render the role.
Christopher Cantwell, co-creator of the AMC computer drama “Halt and Catch Fire,” is writing and attached as showrunner, according to Deadline, which first reported the news. Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah are producing via SpectreVision and All3Media.
Between the quantum leaps in VFX and modern de-aging techniques, bringing Max Headroom back to life – even with a 64-year-old Frewer – will be the easy part. More challenging: constructing a narrative around a character who is immensely well-known and popular, but for years has bounced from medium to medium without really landing a major hit.

Coffin Joe, the horror character created by late Brazilian filmmaker Jose Mojica Marins, is to return to screens through two separate film projects – one English-langugage from the US, the other Spanish-language from Mexico. SpectreVision, the US genre production outfit founded by Elijah Wood with directors Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller, has signed an option for an...

If you're still undecided on what you're going to scare the neighbors with this Halloween, besides hastily grabbing the paper in your tighty whities, the folks over at Legion M have made your decision easy. You can carry around that chainsaw you borrowed from your neighbor and never returned (Your poor neighbor!), and slip into one of your tiger baseball tees, and snag you a Mandy Red Miller Nicolas Cage mask! They exist! You remember Mandy, that tale of a couple in a secluded forest who are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance; that tried and true love story.

Today brings the first trailer for No Man of God. This is a new movie focused on the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. It certainly isn't the first, and it probably won't be the last. But it is attempting to do something new. Elijah Woodis playing an FBI agent names Bill Hagmaier who ended up forming an intimate relationship with Bundy, played by Luke Kirby, in the years after he was incarcerated.
The trailer opens by making it clear that this is based on a true story. We then get into the meat and potatoes of it all, which sees Elijah Wood's Bill having conversations with Luke Kirby's Bundy. Just ahead of his scheduled execution, Bundy decides he's willing to talk. Confess to everything. But to Bill and only to Bill. It then becomes a series of very intense conversations that are making Bill question a lot about his own life.
