Network TV dramas love suspense. These shows are designed to leave questions unanswered for as long as possible, bringing viewers back time after time with teases and cliffhangers before finally explaining themselves with a flashback episode or big reveal. It's a tried and true formula; the mystery is sweet, but the emotional payoff (and the "I told you so" that comes with a correct guess) is sweeter.

Unless that show is "NCIS," a series that has been on seemingly since the dawn of time but didn't actually answer vital questions about the death of its protagonist's first wife until 2024. The CBS drama about a naval crimes investigative unit wasn't actually the show that broke the news, either: Mark Harmon left "NCIS" in 2021, but his character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, lives on in the form of Austin Stowell, who now plays a younger, greener version of the agent on the prequel series "NCIS: Origins.

As Gibbs' time on NCIS has ended, his character's storyline can only be continued in NCIS: Origins. The prequel will follow Leroy Jethro Gibbs before he becomes an NCIS special agent, so there are several narratives that NCIS: Origins can reveal. Gibbs was a main character in NCIS for almost 20 years, so many aspects of his character's life and personality have already been explored. However, this NCIS spinoff can examine Gibbs' character more deeply and show his backstory as it happened in the early 1990s.

NCIS: Origins' story will be set in 1991, shortly after the deaths of Gibbs' first wife and daughter. This means that the show will have a chance to explore scenes that occurred before Mark Harmon took on the role. While NCIS often had flashback episodes, the episodes always looked at specific, defining moments in the character's lives. The prequel will be able to show the aftermath...

NCIS: Origins is debuting, so here are some classic NCIS episodes to watch to get ready for it!

NCIS fans have long been missing Agent Jethro Gibbs. The heart of the series since it debuted as a backdoor pilot on Jag, Gibbs was loved for his stern demeanor, dedication to his job, sometimes wry humor and tragic backstory of losing a wife and child. Mark Harmon made the character beloved, so it was a shock when Gibbs opened Season 19 by quitting to retire to Alaska.

Fortunately, Harmon will be returning to the franchise in a unique way. NCIS: Origins takes us back to 1993 with Austin Stowell playing a younger Gibbs joining the agency and how he became the agent we know. It looks to be an intriguing spin on the franchise and to prepare for it, these episodes are must-watch to see what parts of Gibbs' life can come to play.

Updated with latest expected attendees: SAG-AFTRA’s Los Angeles Local and the Writers Guild of America will hold a “National Day of Solidarity” rally Tuesday outside Disney Studios.

“SAG-AFTRA and WGA will join forces with the AFL-CIO and its affiliates from across the nation and across industries for a National Day of Solidarity,” SAG-AFTRA said in a statement. “In this ‘Summer of Strikes,’ working Americans everywhere are fighting for fair contracts, better compensation, safe working conditions and protections from encroaching technology. SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14, and the Writers Guild since May 2. The rally will start Tuesday at 10 am Pt.

There's good news tonight. The CW has given an early third season renewal to the network's In the Dark TV series. The show was renewed for a second season back in May 2019, while the first season was still airing. There's no word on when season two will see the light of day but a summer run seems likely.

The CW has announced a flurry of renewals.

Three of the network’s freshman shows, “All American,” “Roswell, New Mexico” and “In The Dark,” will return for second seasons, as well as “The 100,” which gets a seventh outing. This means that all five of The CW’s first-year shows, including the previously-renewed “Legacies” and “Charmed,” have been picked up for a sophomore run, a first for the network.

The sixth season of “The 100” is set to premiere on April 30, and will see the characters descending to a new planet after being frozen in stasis pods on a spaceship for decades, after escaping an uninhabitable Earth.

The CW is all set for the new year. Today, the network announced their spring 2019 premiere dates, which includes new seasons of Jane the Virgin, The 100, and iZombie.

This spring will also see the debut of new series In the Dark (April 4th at 9 p.m. Et/Pt), a drama series that follows a blind young woman who stumbles upon a mystery. On December 17 the Oscar shortlists were announced in nine categories including Best Original Song, and included among the tunes that made the final 15 is “All the Stars” from “Black Panther,” which is performed and co-written by Kendrick Lamar and Sza. Could a hip-hop song like that actually win? The motion picture academy often seems rather conservative in its tastes, but when it comes to music the Oscars might actually be more progressive than the Grammys.

Granted, Lamar has won 12 Grammys, and with another 8 nominations this year he’ll probably pick up a few more. But in the top four categories where Grammy voters choose their favorites across all genres, rap can’t catch a break. Despite frequent nominations for the genre, only one rap album has ever won Album of the Year (“Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” by OutKast in 2004), and rap has never won Record or Song of the Year.

The CW continues to fill up its roster of exciting shows for the 2018-2019 season.

The network has placed an order for All American, which was formerly known as Spencer.

The Blu-ray edition of writer/director Dan Gilroy's Nightcrawler streets on February 10 (available to stream right now) and it doesn't come with a wealth of features, but the audio commentary featuring Dan and his brothers Tony Gilroy, who served as producer, and John Gilroy, who served as the film's editor, is a fascinating listen. Sometimes, the hardest thing about reviewing something is overcoming the expectations that you take in with you. In some cases, this is purely a result of the individual makeup of the reviewer. In others, it’s because the producers created those expectations. For me, this week, with Castle, it’s both. Meaning, TVLine has learned that Jeri Ryan will fill the plum NCIS role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ never-before-seen second ex-wife, Rebecca, who will be introduced in a January 2015 episode of the long-running CBS drama.

Open Road Films has released a new viral marketing video for Dan Gilroy's upcoming thriller Nightcrawler. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as reporter Louis Bloom in what seems to be a video resume, as he reaches out to a number of unseen prospective employers.

It isn't known if this video features any actual footage from the movie itself, but it does give us some new insight into Louis Bloom's unique outlook on finding a job. Kathleen York and Kristen Connolly have been cast as series regulars in the NBC pilot Tin Man, a futuristic thriller drama from feature writer Ehren Kruger. Set in the near future, it centers on robot Adam Sentry (Patrick Heusinger), accused of the first-degree murder of his creator, Charles Vale. York has been cast as Wendy, described as the idealized version of the perfect spouse to come home to, and Connolly plays Katie Piper, a public defender forced to fight for Adam’s cause. Perhaps it’s just me (it is), but I can’t help but feel NCIS is spinning its wheels now that it’s in its eleventh season. Despite being the number one drama on television, we can’t deny that it is just a CBS procedural that’s been on for over a decade. At some point the episodes begin to blend into one another and the ideas don’t seem all that inspired anymore. What makes me think this is just how excited the creatives behind NCIS seem to be about the possibility of finally introducing Gibbs’ second ex-wife. Sure, it’s someone we’ve heard about, but has remained entirely unknown and mysterious. Is it really worth a whole storyline for?

Darren Julien and Martin Nolan appeared on NBC’s “Today” March 29 to publicize the auction and claimed that the tapes were being sold by three casting directors who wished to remain anonymous.
