Oscar winners Alfonso Cuaron, Cate Blanchett, and Kevin Kline have teamed with Apple TV+ for the new limited series “Disclaimer.” On Wednesday, the streaming service debuted the first teaser trailer for the show, which begins streaming on October 11.
The event series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Renee Knight and focuses on an “acclaimed journalist named Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett), who built her reputation by revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets.”
Continues the synopsis provided by Apple, “As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys her life and her relationships with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee). The ensemble cast includes Lesley Manville,...

There may be no better example that shows what a chameleon actor Lee Pace is than his role as Ronan the Accuser in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Pace is virtually unrecognizable as the radicalized Kree enforcer, mostly thanks to the work done by makeup artist Lizzie Georgiou, who also helped finalize the looks for Yondu (Michael Rooker), The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), and the presumed leader (it's really Rocket) of the Guardians, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). Without all the extensive makeup caked on, fans will know Pace as tech entrepreneur Joe MacMillan in AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire," and horror aficionados will remember him from Halina Reijn's housebound thriller "Bodies Bodies Bodies" from last year. Pace was also perfectly cast as the wise elf Thandruil in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

Paramount’s “Rocketman” has taken off as a major Oscar contender thanks to nominations at the Golden Globes and SAG. The musical biopic takes a fantastical look at the life and music of rock star Elton John (Taron Egerton), from his international breakthrough to his struggles with drug addiction. Gold Derby recently conducted video interviews with Egerton, director Dexter Fletcher, costume designer Julian Day, production designer Marcus Rowland, and makeup artist and hairstylist Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou. Scroll down and click on any name below to be taken to their full chat.

Before he played John, Egerton had met the famed rock star on the set of “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (2017). He recalls that off-screen the musician “was very funny and naughty and irreverent and cheeky as he always is.” And since portraying him, “we’ve become quite close,...

It was admittedly a “big challenge” for makeup artist and hairstylist Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou to turn Taron Egerton into Elton John for “Rocketman.” “Obviously Elton’s got a huge fan base, so I was very aware of how we needed to please them.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Yianni-Georgiou above.
See Taron Egerton Interview: ‘Rocketman’
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, the Paramount release takes a magical-realist look at the life of the iconic rock star, from his early rise through his struggles with drug addiction. Because the film features fantastical musical numbers set to John’s greatest hits, Yianni-Georgiou realized she couldn’t “overload Taron with huge amounts of makeup because it was a role where he would be dancing and bouncing off pianos,” not to mention aging “through four decades.”
When first sitting down with John himself, “I looked at him carefully to see if there was anything I could...

Ahmanet awakens today with the release of The Mummy (2017) on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and VOD platforms from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and for our latest Q&A, I had the chance to catch up with Yianni-Georgiou, one of the artists behind the amazing makeup of The Mummy, to discuss bringing the undead to life (including Sofia Boutella's title character) and looking back at the classic Universal Monsters films for stylistic inspirations.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Lizzie. How did the opportunity to work on The Mummy come about, and what were you drawn to in particular with this project?

Academy invitee Eddie Redmayne in 'The Theory of Everything.' Academy invites 322 new members: 'More diverse and inclusive list of filmmakers and artists than ever before' The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has offered membership to 322 individuals "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures." According to the Academy's press release, "those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2015." In case all 322 potential new members say an enthusiastic Yes, that means an injection of new blood representing about 5 percent of the Academy's current membership. In the words of Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs (as quoted in the press release), in 2015 "our branches have recognized a more diverse and inclusive list of filmmakers and artists than ever before, and we look forward to adding their creativity, ideas and experience to our organization." In recent years, the Academy membership has...

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

They've done what they've had to do to survive on AMC's The Walking Dead, brining hope and despair to palpable life on the small screen with gritty realism every week. Covered in grime, splattered in blood, and trudging down the sun-baked backroads and brush-bordered trails this season, the stellar cast and crew of The Walking Dead have paid their dues and then some, and now they're getting a tip of the cap in return with seven nominations for the 41st Annual Saturn Awards.
Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Emily Kinney, Melissa McBride, Chandler Riggs, and Andrew J. West have all earned nominations, with the TV series itself receiving one as well. Also recognized in this year's nominations is Scream Factory's Nightbreed: The Director's Cut Blu-ray, NBC's Hannibal TV series, Only Lovers Left Alive, and many more.

A memorable 87th annual Academy Awards for Fox Searchlight saw Birdman claim best film, director and two other statuettes to tie with The Grand Budapest Hotel’s four-strong haul.
Boyhood, which entered the evening on six nominations and had been expected to push Birdman in several of the senior categories on Sunday night, won a sole best supporting actress for Patricia Arquette.
The film’s time in the Oscar ceremony spotlight will not be forgotten, however, as Arquette paid tribute to her “Boyhood family” and made an impassioned plea for wage equality that spread like wildfire across social media.
Eddie Redmayne from The Theory Of Everything prevailed in a tight best actor contest to deny Michael Keaton another success for Birdman. The popular victory had the British actor jumping with excitement on stage at the Dolby Theatre.

When the first Academy Awards were handed out on May 16, 1929, at an Academy banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, movies had just begun to talk. The attendance was 270 and guest tickets cost $5. It was a long banquet, filled with speeches, but presentation of the statuettes was handled expeditiously by Academy President Douglas Fairbanks.
The suspense that now touches most of the world at Oscar time was not always a characteristic of the Awards presentation. That first year, the award recipients were announced to the public three months ahead of the ceremony.
Today, Oscar pundits and fans alike avidly watch the precursor and guild awards to ultimately make their predictions in the 24 categories. Academy members have cast their ballots, so now it’s our turn for our Oscar picks.

They use to disqualify movies from this Oscar if they used too much computer enhancement (see The Hours) and always wanted their makeup effects practical (like American Werewolf in London). But nowadays computer enhancements seem to be a non-issue (see several recent winners and one of this year's nominees Guardians of the Galaxy). There are four indisputable truths about this relatively young category and this Oscar branch and they are like so:
• They love old age makeup
• They worship werewolves and love fantastically weird creatures, but hate zombies
• Hairstyling was recently added to the official category name but usually the wig heavy movies lose to films that are more prosthetically-focused
• There should be five nominees like every other category since literally every live-action film employs makeup and hair. Not every film requires visual effects or original songs or even original scores and those categories all have 5 nominees.

The 2015 Ee BAFTA Awards were handed out in London Sunday night and while the broadcast aired hours later in the United States, it didn't stop us from chronicling the twists and turns of a show often seen as a bellwether for the Academy Awards. It took home only three BAFTAs, but "Boyhood" was the biggest winner of the night as it won Best Film and Richard Linklater earned Director honors. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" took home five statues including Original Screenplay for Wes Anderson, Production Design, Costumes, Original Music and Make Up & Hair. "Whiplash" earned three BAFTAs including J.K. Simmons for Supporting Actor, Editing and a somewhat surprising win in Sound. Expected Oscar winners Julianne Moore took Leading Actress and Patricia Arquette took Supporting Actress. Eddie Redmayne earned a key win over rival Michael Keaton by claiming the Lead Actor BAFTA for "The Theory of Everything." The latter also won...

This year's Oscar nominees for Best Makeup and Hairstyling — "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" — are a typically varied assortment. This is a branch, after all, whose choices often reflect consideration of the work itself above Best Picture-contending frontrunners. Just last year we got nominations for films like "Bad Grandpa" and "The Lone Ranger." This time around, the cream of the crop just happened to come in critically acclaimed films. Beginning with "Foxcatcher," Bill Corso and his co-nominee, Dennis Liddiard, had a gargantuan task ahead of them: transforming well-known comedic actors Steve Carell and Channing Tatum, as well as Mark Ruffalo, into something approaching blue blood John du Pont, wrestling wunderkind Mark Schultz and his ill-fated brother Dave. They split duties, with Liddiard handling Tatum's transformation, Corso working on Carell and the two of them coming to Ruffalo when needed. For both Tatum and Ruffalo, given that they were playing wrestlers,...

Wamg was in the thick of nomination morning fever at the home of the Oscars – the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Prior to the announcement, A.M.P.A.S. and the show’s producing team, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, gave the press assembled in the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre a first look at the new Oscar promo featuring host Neil Patrick Harris, titled “Anything Can Happen,” and given what went down this morning, that’s certainly the case.
Let’s get right to the big shockers – No Lego Movie for Best Animated Feature or Life Itself in Best Documentary Feature.
Also missing among the presumed nominees were Ava DuVernay (Selma, directing), Clint Eastwood (American Sniper, directing), Jennifer Aniston (Cake, best actress), David Oyelowo (Selma, best actor), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, best actor), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel, best actor), Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl,...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just finished announcing their nominees for the 87th Annual Academy Awards, with Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel leading the way with nine nominations apiece, followed by The Imitation Game with eight. As usual, there were plenty of surprises to be found this morning, so let’s take a look at a few:
Selma ended up not making as grand a showing as many thought it would, nabbing only two nominations (Best Picture and Best Original Song). In a shocking turn of events, Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl has been snubbed from Best Adapted Screenplay after being the leader throughout awards season, making it a wide-open category. Bennett Miller made a completely surprising appearance in Best Director for Foxcatcher, while Steve Carell managed to squeeze into the incredibly crowded Best Actor category. Bradley Cooper has also managed to sneak into Best Actor for American Sniper.

It’s almost time for the British Academy Film Awards, and earlier today (January 9) the illustrious list of nominees was unveiled. Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is out in front with 11 nods, while “Birdman” is close behind with an impressive 10 chances for glory.
Meanwhile, both Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) have been nominated for Best Actor, though Redmayne insists there’s no competition between them. He explained, "One can try and create a rivalry but it will not happen! We both absolutely understand people wanting to pitch us against each other, but we are old, old friends and I think he is the most wonderful actor. He is sensational in 'The Imitation Game' and I love watching him.”

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has just finished announcing their nominations for best achievement in film for 2014, with Wes Anderson’s quirky comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel leading the pack with 11 nominations. Also scoring 10 BAFTA nods is The Theory Of Everything, followed by The Imitation Game with nine, Boyhood and Whiplash with five, and Mr Turner, Nightcrawler and Interstellar with four. This is the second year for the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild joining the awards game, and they've been a welcome addition to the circuit. They spread their nods thin across a number of categories, but it's a good window into what this branch digs, for sure. This year, the only two films on the Academy's bake-off list of finalists that didn't garner any recognition were "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Noah." Meaning "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "The Theory of Everything" were each represented in one form or another. Meanwhile, "Guardians of the Galaxy" led with the most mentions at three, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar" and "Into the Woods" each got a pair. As previously announced, Oscar-winning make-up artist Rick Baker and Emmy-nominated hair stylist Kathryn Blondell will receive the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Awards. Check out the full list of nominees below,...
