Animals are as integral to society as humans are, which is why they've been depicted in a vast amount of media, often being the central focus. Some of the most culturally significant films have been animal-centric, such as Finding Nemo (2003) or the photorealistic remake of The Lion King (2019), which are two of the highest-grossing films of all time. Animal-based media gives people the opportunity to peek inside the worlds of these fascinating creatures, even if it’s only an animation.
Anime is one of the most influential and watched types of media globally. Fans are drawn to it due to its distinct animation, unconventional character designs and Japan’s culturally significant themes throughout it. Further, anime tends to be more mature and realistic than other kinds of media, even when animals are its central focus. Hunter x Hunter's new fighting game, Nen x Impact has been banned in Australia due to suggestions of sexual violence against minors according to a recent report. Though Hunter x Hunter is a believed series among anime fans, one of the series' main antagonists, Hisoka, remains a controversial aspect. It seems that controversy has now boiled over, with Hisoka's disquieting antics meaning that Bushiroad and Eighting's Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact won't receive classification in Australia, effectively banning the game.
In a report by Automaton Media, the Australian Classification board specifically said that it wouldn't classify the new game with its rating system due to "sexual violence against characters under the age of 18 by an adult male character." While the board doesn't clarify, anyone familiar with the series will know that the likely culprit is Hisoka. While this is obviously disappointing for Australian fans of Hunter x Hunter...

Make My Day is an animated movie directed by Makoto Honda. The screenplay is written by Yasuo Ohtagaki.
Make My Day is a Japanese animated series that takes us to a sort of Half Life (the videogame) in a strange planet where a dangerous plague is spreading that will affect humanity. The only ones that reach this place are the worst criminals, condemned and alone fighting against a very real threat.
Another anime proposal on Netflix that lately is providing us with a couple of them every week (Record of Ragnarok was the latest one). This time, a very different kind of offering with much more computer animation, more modern and less “classic”, but will surely find its audience in the endless and thrilling world of Japanese anime.

Two worlds collide once young Kyuta (Shôta Sometani) and warrior Kumatetsu (Kôji Yakusho) meet in Mamoru Hosoda‘s The Boy and the Beast. The former was recently orphaned after his mother’s death (she had divorced his father years ago and her family refuses to get in touch with him), currently working his way towards becoming a solitary street urchin full of dark rage aimed at the human race for causing him such pain. The latter is a candidate to replace the Beast Kingdom Jutengai’s lord—a fighter of immense power but little discipline who probably won’t stand a chance against his opponent Iozan (Kazuhiro Yamaji). One needs a father and the other an apprentice. One to learn strength and love while the other discovers humility and patience’s immense value.
It’s all pretty familiar—at the beginning. The film’s first half can get tedious as a result.
