When Charles Durning appeared on NCIS in 2004, he was neither a stranger to acting nor without knowledge of the military. The WWII veteran was a long-time presence on big and small screens. Durning's role as Corporal Earnie Yost on NCIS stood apart from many of his other roles, however, because it earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
His appearance on NCIS wasn't Durning's first nomination in the category. He was previously nominated for playing Michael Gavin on Rescue Me and Thomas Finnegan on Homicide: Life on the Streets. Additional praise for Durning came with Oscar nominations for his roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and To Be or Not to Be (1983).
In the minds of many, Durning will always be remembered for NCIS and the emotional intensity he brought to the role of Yost. Personal and powerful alike, Durning demonstrated...

Quick Links'ncis' Has Seen 22 Seasons of Success"Call of Silence" Is a Great 'NCIS' EpisodeWhy "Call of Silence" Is the Best 'NCIS' Episode
On December 16, 2024, NCIS went on hiatus for six weeks following Season 22, Episode 9, "Humbug." The episode concerns the NCIS team investigating a former U.S. Marine's claim that a squad leader neglected his duties, calling to mind the long-running procedural's best hour of television. Almost 20 years to the day, "Humbug" was released after "Call of Silence," arguably the best-acted and the most compassionately moving NCIS episode ever made.
With NCIS Seasons 1-5 and 12-17 recently added to Netflix, fans new and old must see Charles Durning's tour-de-force performance in "Call of Silence," the highest-rated episode of arguably the finest season in show history. To this day, Rod Serling's sci-fi anthology series "The Twilight Zone" regularly tops lists of the best TV shows of all time. Serling, and a team of some of the best sci-fi authors of the 1950s and 1960s, conceived of 156 miniature morality stories, usually with a supernatural bent, and in so doing changed the very face of television. Sci-fi and horror were considered more commercially viable, inspiring a new slew of imitators and a shift in the public's attention. Serling also introduced a unique form of storytelling efficiency with "The Twilight Zone," proving that an entire, closed morality fable could be wrapped up in a mere 25 minutes (or 51 minutes in the show's fourth season). Serling was also careful to explicitly state a moral in every episode, making "The Twilight Zone" a fantastic social commentary.

As a lifelong fan of the original Creepshow—one of the first R-rated horror movies I ever saw as a kid and still my favorite horror anthology of all-time—it has taken me years to come to terms with the fact that Creepshow 2 is not bad. In fact, it’s quite good at times. But because it failed to capture the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of the first film (I mean, you had George A. Romero, Stephen King, and Tom Savini all working at their peaks), I have always ignored the fact that there’s a lot to like in Creepshow 2, even if it does fall short of its predecessor’s greatness. Thankfully, Arrow’s new special edition Blu-ray helped put me in my place.
Based on three more stories by King, Creepshow 2 finds original director Romero trading in the director’s chair for screenwriting duties. Calling the shots...

Now that it is officially the longest running U.S fantasy television series, Supernatural will surely garner even more attention with its upcoming twelfth season. Having ended on a significant cliffhanger last year, the show that follows brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt supernatural entities and creatures will return as even more of a family affair, with mother Mary reappearing.
For more on what to expect from the premiere, you can consult the official synopsis below:
“Mama Winchester Is Back — Dean (Jensen Ackles) is overwhelmed as he comes face to face with his mom, Mary Winchester (guest star Samantha Smith). Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) is fighting for his life after Toni, from the Woman of Letters, shot him. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (#1201).”

I am sure that many fans will agree with me in saying that last night’s offering of Supernatural, “Don’t Call Me Shurley,” was not only something that we have waited years to see, but it also may have been the finest episode of this season (so far). Seeing Rob Benedict return as Chuck Shurley/God in an outing that spent a great deal of time examining his character was something that I was not sure I would ever see. The fact that Metatron of all people inspired him to get back in the game made for quite an emotional viewing experience.
Despite all that transpired last night, it looks as though next week’s episode, titled “All in the Family,” may surpass it because now we will get to see Chuck have a long overdue conversation with Sam and Dean Winchester. Something tells me that if these three...

Beginning in the flash-forward style, Baby finds Dean handcuffed in the car, blood everywhere and Baby herself looking a little worse for wear. Back at the beginning, Sam and Dean set off on a trip to Oregon in the car, going after some mysterious deaths that fit their usual brand of monsters. When they discover the victim had his heart removed and blood drained, Dean enthusiastically decides it's a werepire (it'll never catch on), but after Cas' diligent research and a deputy with fangs refusing to die, the brothers realise they're dealing with something a little more probable and difficult to deal with.

We only get to spend one hour a week with the Winchester Bros. There's a lot that happens between Sam and Dean that we never get to see. That all changes with this week's all-new episode of Supernatural titled Baby. This latest adventure will be told entirely from the perspective of Dean's beloved '67 Chevrolet Impala. And it promises to expose some secrets even hardcore fans don't know.
Ever since its debut in 2005, Supernatural has revolved around three main characters. Sam, Dean and Baby. And along with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, this bad ass Impala is one of the few cast members to have appeared in every single episode. While we got an origin story for Baby early on in the show's run, this will be the first time we're seeing all the action from Baby's point-of-view. The episode will never leave the car. We'll finally learn what happens...

In this Golden Glut of TV drama, it's hard for any new drama to break through and find an audience, because there are so many options out there (not to mention easy access to most of the great dramas of the previous 50 years). It's harder still for a show that has an audience and loses it to get those people back, no matter how good it becomes. Case in point: FX's "The Bridge," the current belt-holder for Best Show You're Not Watching. In season 1, the ratings weren't huge, but they were decent enough for FX to order a second season. The problem is that the original batch of episodes — translating the Scandinavian series "Broen" from the Denmark/Sweden border to the one dividing the U.S. and Mexico, complete with a relatively faithful rendering of that show's serial killer story — wound up turning a lot of viewers off as the season went along.

For most of its first season, FX's "The Bridge" seemed as caught between two worlds as its two heroes, who worked opposite sides of the El Paso/Juarez border. In one world, the show was stuck adapting the serial killer story from the original Scandinavian "Bron," and not providing a particularly inspired take on an overdone subject. In the other world, "The Bridge" was having a lot of fun looking at the weird culture along that border, and in establishing the bond between Texas cop Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger) and her Mexican counterpart Marco Ruiz (Demián Bichir). The second show was much more interesting than the first, but the first show kept swallowing the second one whole. Then two promising things happened. First, the season wrapped up the serial killer arc with two episodes to spare, and devoted those concluding chapters to all the things the show had done well,...

Written by Jeremy Carver
Directed by Thomas J. Wright
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW
Over the course of Supernatural’s ninth season, the Winchesters have faced two major threats in the form of Abaddon and Metatron. Having successfully vanquished the former, the brothers’ attention turned to the latter over the past few episodes. Metatron, however, has proven to be a trickier enemy to deal with, as he has relied on cunning to stay a step ahead of his foes, whether it’s by recruiting Gadreel to kill Kevin, or brainwashing Angels into killing themselves for Castiel. This week’s season finale sees the brothers, with the help of Castiel and Gadreel, make their final stand against the former tablet scribble, in an entertaining episode that deals a major blow to Dean.

Castiel has been a fan favorite since first appearing in "Supernatural" Season 4, but the status of Misha Collins, the actor who portrays him, has been in a constant state of flux, going from recurring to regular, back to recurring, and even switching to "Special Guest Star" in Season 8.
He's been considered a series regular this year in Season 9, and things will remain the same for Season 10; however, per TV Guide, the role Castiel will play hinges on how the battle with Metatron is resolved in the season finale, which airs on Tuesday, May 20th.
And we've just gotten hold of the synopsis for said finale, Episode 9.23, "Do You Believe in Miracles?," which you'll find below the summary of the upcoming Episode 9.22, "Stairway to Heaven."

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW
While Metatron’s actions at the end of last season sealed off Heaven and tossed every Angel out, his movements over the course of this season have established that his plans are far from over. With an explicit desire to replace God, and a willingness to kill even those who might tangentially stand in his way, such as Kevin, Metatron has emerged as a major threat. This week’s episode delves into his mindset, and how Metatron views himself, in a superb episode that pushes Castiel down a path he’s reluctant to walk.
