J.J. Abrams (“The Force Awakens”) and showrunner Latoya Morgan’s (“Shameless”) new series “Duster” will debut May 15, with the first official trailer teasing an increasingly dangerous crime syndicate.

Starring Josh Holloway (“Lost”), Rachel Hilson and Keith David (“The Thing”), “Duster” is set in the 1970s Southwest as a getaway driver gets entangled in a crime network that is threatened by the arrival of a young agent in town. Hilson stars as the first Black female FBI agent.

“Duster” was produced in association with Warner Bros. Television, with the eight episodes dropping weekly through the finale on July 3. The first two episodes are written by Abrams and Morgan, with Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive producing for Bad Robot while Morgan executive produces for TinkerToy Productions.

The American girl revolution in England will continue this summer, when The Buccaneers Season 2 premieres with its first episode on Wednesday, June 18, on Apple TV+, the streamer has announced. One installment will be released every Wednesday until the season finale on Aug. 6.

Apple TV+'s newest adaptation of The Buccaneers has already impressed in its first outing, and here's what we know about the second season. Based on the eponymous Edith Wharton novel which was published posthumously, the story follows a group of American women during the 1870s who travel to England in order to secure wealthy husbands. Intentionally anachronistic and playful, The Buccaneers used Wharton's novel as a framework for yet another period dramedy. The clash of cultures takes center stage, and it offers commentary on the repressive elements of contemporary culture.

Throughout its first season, The Buccaneers has received high marks from critics who praised its over-the-top and anachronistic execution, and its feminist message (via Rotten Tomatoes). “The Crown” series finale premiere in London on Tuesday evening brought out the cast and creatives behind the hit Netflix show as well as a smattering of other familiar faces keen to catch a sneak peek of the last-ever episode.

Imelda Staunton, who plays the last iteration of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons of the series, led the red carpet. Despite the chaos around her — from reporters clamoring to ask questions to photographers shouting her name — the star told Variety her focus had always been on the character.

“I don’t look at maelstrom,” she said. “It doesn’t interest me. I just look at the script, look at the part, go to work.”

Newcomer Meg Bellamy, who joined the series as a college-age Kate Middleton for Season 6, was more emotional about getting the part, which also happened to be her first ever professional acting job.

Emma Thompson has said that she made herself “seriously ill” while campaigning for the Oscars.

The British actor is the only person to win an Oscar in both acting and screenwriting categories; the former for Howard’s End in 1992 and the latter for Sense and Sensibility in 1995.

But in a new interview, Thompson admitted that she’d “really hated” campaigning for the awards.

“I get very distraught and actually, both times I had to do the Oscars I got ill, quite seriously ill, before and during it,” she told the Radio Times podcast. “I just found the pressure of it too much, the glare too much. It’s not something I like very much.

“It’s sort of astonishing, and you go, ‘Ooh, ahh’ and then you think, ‘God, I really want to lie down and go in a dark room and just please don’t ask me any questions...

Speaking with the Radio Times, the 63-year-old actress opened up about the potential pitfalls of pursuing romantic love.

“Long-term relationships are hugely difficult and complicated,” the actress added. “If anyone thinks that happy ever after has a place in our lives, forget it.”

Emma Thompson has said that it is not very fun for her to rewatch Love Actually.

The actor appeared on Tuesday night’s (6 December) episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, on which she spoke about the much-loved 2003 Christmas film.

In it, Thompson, 63, plays Karen, whose husband (Alan Rickman) becomes attracted to his younger secretary Mia (Heike Makatsch).

Thompson’s storyline in the romcom is often cited as the film’s most heartbreaking by viewers.

Asked by host Jimmy Fallon whether she ever rewatches the holiday film, Thompson responded: “No! It was 20 years ago.”

He replied: “I know, but isn’t it kind of fun to put it on and go, ‘Oh, I remember where we were when we were doing that?’”

“Not really,” said Thompson. “You just think… I don’t think I was very well paid for that and that was that terrible trailer with the loo that really stank…...

Emma Thompson revealed that she was “utterly blind” to her ex-husband Kenneth Branagh’s affairs with actresses like Helena Bonham Carter.

“I was utterly, utterly blind to the fact that he had relationships with other women on set,” she told The New Yorker. “What I learned was how easy it is to be blinded by your own desire to deceive yourself.”

Thompson and Branagh first met on the set of the series Fortunes of War, and they were married from 1989 to 1995. In 1994, Branagh began a relationship with Bonham Carter while they filmed the Frankenstein movie together.

To make matters even messier, Bonham Carter and Thompson had previously worked together in 1992 on their film, Howards End.

Branagh’s relationships with other women and the end of their marriage understandably took a huge toll on Thompson’s mental health after the fact.

The solo directorial debut of writer-director Emily Harris stars newcomers Hannah Rae and Devrim Lingnau alongside Jessica Raine, Tobias Menzies and Greg Wise, both of whom were recently featured in Netflix’s The Crown.

This crowd-pleasing comedy drama from the director of The Full Monty hits all the right notes

“Great music doesn’t happen when things are perfect,” says Sharon Horgan’s brassy Lisa in this formulaic yet ultimately winning British dramedy. “It happens when you care.” That’s a truism that could equally be applied to the film itself, an “inspired by real events” crowd-pleaser from The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo. Military Wives may indeed be far from perfect (to say it flirts with cliche is to understate its enthusiastic commitment to contrivance), yet for all its manipulative flaws, this goodhearted tale of the partners of service personnel finding musical strength together works the kind of movie magic that will leave you laughing and crying, often against your better judgment.

(This interview contains some major spoilers for “Last Christmas,” so if you haven’t seen the film and want to go in blind, you might not want to read this.)

It’s been a long time since a Christmas movie has caused the sort of uproar that “Last Christmas” was received with when it hit theaters back in November. But it’s also unusual for a Christmas movie to rock the boat the way Paul Feig’s film did.

The issue at hand, I think, is that “Last Christmas” was marketed as what appeared to be a standard romantic comedy with Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. But, in the end, it really defied that label and went off in a direction that caught pretty much everyone off guard with a huge twist in the third act that recontextualizes everything that came before.

CBS All Access has canceled its fact-based dark drama series, Strange Angel, after two seasons.

Strange Angel just had its proverbial wings clipped by its platform home, CBS All Access, which has canceled the historically-based, lasciviously occult, television series, leaving no room for a third season.

CBS All Access’s cancelation of Strange Angel after two seasons on the premium streaming service, as reported by THR, marks only the second time in the platform’s five-year history that an original series has been met with cancelation, with the lone precedent stemming back to its December 2018 cancelation of drama One Dollar. However, it won’t be an isolated incident, with the merger of CBS and Viacom expected to unleash a deluge of new original content for CBS All Access, which will lead to a statistically-inevitable share of casualties.

Last Christmas doesn’t just leave you asking what went wrong, it leaves you asking what went really, really, really wrong. With Paul Feig as the director, Emma Thompson as the writer and Emilia Clarke as the lead it had everything it needed to be a Christmas classic. In the end it’s another classic disaster.

The plot, as little as there is, tells us the story of Kate, played by Emilia Clarke. Kate is a young woman stuck in a rut of bad decisions, who works as one of Santa’s elves for a department store. When she meets Tom (Henry Golding) her life takes a new turn and she finds a new lease of life.

The drama, about rocketry pioneer and occultist Jack Parsons, ended its second season in July.

The streaming service has pulled the plug on the series after two seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The series brought new meaning to the idea that the truth is stranger than fiction and we are incredibly thankful to the creative team of Mark Heyman, David Digilio, Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker for their vision, as well as the fantastic cast for bringing the bizarre story of Jack Parsons to life," said Julie McNamara, exec vp originals at CBS All Access.

The cancellation marks the second overall for CBS All Access, coming after One Dollar was nixed after one season.

It's difficult to guage how well shows are performing on streaming services because they typically don't release ratings data.

The last twelve months have been big business for the movie musical with Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman among those packing audiences in. There’s a seasonal flavour to the latest in this burgeoning genre, with the music of George Michael and Wham! being the basis for Last Christmas. The film had its UK premiere this evening in London, and we were there to chat the cast and crew.

The film stars Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding, Emma Thompson (who co-wrote the film and screenplay along with Greg Wise and Bryony Kimmings), Michelle Yeoh, Lydia Leonard, Maxim Baldry, Patti LuPone and Margaret Clunie. The film was directed by Paul Feig and produced by David Livingstone.

Roland Emmerich’s WWII epic “Midway” is heading for the No. 1 slot at the box office with an estimated $17.5 million from 3,242 domestic locations.

The number marks a slight drop from Friday’s estimate in the $20 million-plus range, but is still significantly ahead of early tracking’s $13 million prediction. “Midway” is on track to come out ahead of Stephen King adaptation “Doctor Sleep,” which is looking at around $13.5 million from 3,855 North American sites, though estimates are still fluid until final tallies on Monday.

The war film, timed to release with Veterans Day, took in $6.34 million on Friday. Lionsgate is distributing “Midway,” whose star-studded cast includes Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, Ed Skrein, Nick Jonas, Patrick Wilson, Darren Criss, Aaron Eckhart, Mandy Moore, and Dennis Quaid. Emmerich directed the film, which recreates the 1942 Battle of Midway, from Wes Tooke’s script. It’s one of the most expensive indie movies ever made, with a $100 million budget.
