For decades, the Disney Channel has been a front-runner in the world of original cartoon series. Multiple generations have grown up in different eras of the channel's history, with each decade seeming to have its own highlights. In retrospect, however, it can be difficult to gauge exactly which series have truly reigned supreme.
From early successes like the original DuckTales series and Recess to more recent surprises like Kiff, the impact of Disney Channel cartoons on pop culture is undeniable. Series like Gravity Falls are still receiving supplementary material and merchandise years after their release, while shows like Phineas and Ferb are receiving sequel series and follow-ups. Although it has had its low points like any network, Disney Channel's cartoon track record is a near-perfect example of how to make timeless and completely original animated series.

There are Shakespeare auditions, and then there are Reduced Shakespeare auditions. Perhaps surprisingly, there's not that much of a difference between them. There are currently three Shakespearean plays in the ever-expanding repertoire of the Reduced Shakespeare Company the revised edition of the show that started it all, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare abridged by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield William Shakespeare's Long Lost First Play abridged and Hamlet's Big Adventure a prequel, both of which were written by me and my co-artistic director Reed Martin. These are comic deconstructions of Shakespeare's great works, and the best parody should be performed with the same level of skill and commitment you'd approach the thing you're parodying.

A straightforward biography of the most famous playwright in the English language was never going to come from Jess Winfield, one of the co-founders of the Reduced Shakespeare Company. My Name Is Will: A Novel Of Sex, Drugs, And Shakespeare reclaims the bawdy Bard and the scholars who love him by pairing a slightly implausible story of the young playwright with a contemporary college-campus escapade, for an explicit tale that will never be assigned in high-school English classes. William Shakespeare, 18, tutors local boys in Latin, enduring their japes and the way his schoolmaster prods him to keep them in line instead of humoring their questions about dead-language double entendres. Then a mysterious messenger pulls him into a secret network of English Catholics, in hiding since the Queen denounced them. William isn't religious, but the fraternity offers a sense of purpose he can't find in his everyday life. However,...
