The second night of the Creative Arts Emmys commenced Sunday night. The FX series Shōgun would prove to be the awards darling of the night by taking home an incredible number of awards for categories that include Guest Actor, Costumes, Makeup, Hairstyling, Stunts, Production Design, Visual Effects and more. The historical drama snagged a total of 14 Emmys over the course of both nights and leads in wins.
Another popular FX series, The Bear, would have its own run of wins as the intense cooking show took home statues for casting, picture editing, sound mixing and guest stars Jon Bernthal, as well as Jamie Lee Curtis, who also served as the opening emcee for the ceremony, which was held at the Peacock Theater. The Bear has not been able to catch up to Shōgun, but the show has, so far, collected seven wins, which is just one more than the leader for Night 1, Saturday Night Live.

“Shōgun” is officially in the drama race for the Primetime Emmys.
FX has confirmed that the once limited or anthology series heavyweight has been officially submitted and accepted in the drama categories, where it will compete against Netflix’s “The Crown,” Apple’s “The Morning Show” and Prime Video’s “Fallout.” In addition, the network has shared exclusively with Variety the complete list of 40 Emmy submissions, which includes six submissions for directing, four for writing, and two eligible guest actors. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” currently holds the record for most nominations in a single year with 32. Could FX break the monumental record?
Following the announcement that FX, Hulu, and the estate of James Clavell — who authored the novel — are working on developing more seasons of the critically acclaimed series, “Shōgun” is now officially eligible to compete in the drama races after being commissioned as limited. The move puts the...

On the heels of Telefilm Canada’s pledge on November 11 that half of its projects will be directed or written by women in a move to close the industry gender gap by 2020, the Whistler Film Festival (Nov 30 — Dec 4) was proud to present an unprecedented number of female focused films, talent, events and awards throughout its 2016 programs.
The festival featured a record 31 (36%) films all directed by women (including 15 feature films out of 50 and 16 short films out of 36). Wff also has 38 (58%) female filmmakers out of the 66 Canadian artists confirmed to date participating in 11 talent programs — including 22 directors, 6 producers, 3 screenwriters, 2 actors, and 5 musicians/bands in the Music Showcase. Add this to the talent confirmed to attend the festival in support of their films and projects, including award winning director and screenwriter Deepa Mehta (An Anatomy Of Violence), director Ingrid Veninger (Hockey Night), director Kirsten Carthew (The Sun At Midnight) and director Martine Blue...

He played a smooth-singing, sweet-talking jock on TV, but in real life Cory Monteith was fond of describing himself with one word: awkward. Even after the gangly, 6'3" star rocketed to stardom on the Fox smash Glee, he still "thought of himself that way," says Maureen Webb, an early mentor who discovered Monteith when he was a 20-year-old self-described "wayward youth." Dining with Webb and his manager Elena Kirschner at Vancouver eatery East of Main on July 11, Monteith - who had completed rehab for substance abuse two months earlier - "was in great spirits," says Webb. When the subject turned...

Vancouver – Don’t tell Maureen Webb she holds the key to explaining Cory Monteith’s final days. It’s Tuesday evening, and the Vancouver casting director is sitting in the East of Main cafe she runs in the city’s downtown eastside neighborhood. She fights back tears while trying to come to grips with news heard only hours earlier that the Glee star’s untimely death was caused by an accidental overdose of heroin and alcohol, according to the local coroner's office. Five days earlier, on July 11, Webb sat only a few tables away, sharing a laugh-filled dinner with Monteith and manager

Cory Monteith, whose body was found in a Vancouver hotel room over the weekend, died of a "mixed drug toxicity" of heroin and alcohol, authorities say. "At this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith's death was anything other than a most-tragic accident," the BC Coroners Service says in a statement released Tuesday. Police spokesman Constable Brian Montague said, "There was evidence in the room that was consistent with a drug overdose." He did not reveal what that evidence was, but that it was believed Monteith was alone when he died. The actor had been out earlier with three other people.

For the indie movie McCanick, Cory Monteith didn't audition for the role of a drug-addicted hustler sent to prison for murder. He just talked to director Josh C. Waller about his past. "He opened up quite a bit," Waller tells People of their meeting for the movie that shot last September. "He was like, 'I can do this character. I know this character. I was this character. I have lived elements of this.' He said, 'I was a troubled youth.' " Less than a year later, there were questions of whether Monteith's past had caught up with him after the Glee star,...

Just days before Cory Monteith's untimely passing, he was busy working on future charity projects in Vancouver with his agent and the head of Project Limelight Society—an a nonprofit group performing arts program for children in the city's Eastside Downtown area. Monteith initiated the dinner and was joined by his agent Elena Kirschner and Limelight founder Maureen Webb at East of Main Café on Thursday evening to discuss upcoming plans. It appears that Monteith was incredibly passionate about helping others in any way that he could and was set on making a difference. Desiree Mohammadi, the founder and creator of Montourage Unite, had been working with the Glee star and his agent on several...

Before his tragic death, Cory Monteith enjoyed his final days with friends. And among the last places the Glee star visited was the Vancouver eatery East of Main Café, where he dined Thursday with Canada-based casting director Maureen Webb and his manager Elena Kirschner. Kirschner posted to Twitter a photo of Monteith during that get-together, a now haunting image of the thespian in silhouette, seemingly gazing out the window. "@eastofMAINcafe and @projLimelight Great meal with good friends. @maureenwebb Oh. And this guy. @CoryMonteith," tweeted Kirschner. Monteith however relished the evening well enough that he subsequently retweeted the pic and used it in his Twitter...

Deceased "Glee" actor Cory Monteith is being mourned by a Vancouver-based theatre program that gives creative opportunities to kids in the city's poorest neighbourhood.
Project Limelight founders Maureen Webb and Donalda Weaver issued a statement Sunday saying they are "deeply saddened" after the actor was found dead in Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel on Saturday.
Monteith, whom Webb encouraged to take acting classes when he was 19 and living in Nanaimo, used his role as an ambassador for Virgin Unite, the non-profit wing of Richard Branson's corporation, to get a $26,550 grant for the project, The Globe and Mail reported.
Monteith had dinner with Webb just days before he was found dead, Global News reported.
"I really think kids need a place to go and feel like they belong," Monteith said in a promotional video for the program.
