The Addams Family have been a fixture on screen since the 1960s with several actors who played Wednesday Addams helping the character become an icon. The classic characters are originally based on the 1938 single-panel New Yorker cartoons by Charles Addams, but it wasnt until the 1964 sitcom that The Addams Family would become pop culture staples. Since the sitcom, The Addams Family has been adapted on numerous occasions for movies and television. However, the most recently entry into the franchise, Tim Burton's Wednesday, suggests the family's eccentric daughter is the real star.

Wednesday Addams is the daughter of Gomez and Morticia and has inherited her parents fascination with homicide and torture, which she often practices on her younger brother Pugsley. Bob Weatherwax, who trained dogs who played Lassie as a member of the famous family that also taught Hollywood hounds a thing or two in The Thin Man (Asta), The Wizard of Oz (Toto) and Old Yeller (Spike), has died. He was 83.

Weatherwax died Thursday at a Veterans Administration facility in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, his son, Robert Weatherwax, a former animal trainer for films and television shows, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Bob Weatherwax was the son of Rudd Weatherwax, the original owner and trainer of Pal, the collie introduced to moviegoers in the MGM classic Lassie Come Home (1943), starring Elizabeth Taylor and Roddy McDowall.

His grandfather, W.S. Weatherwax, was an actor and animal trainer in the silent era, and his cousin, Ken Weatherwax, played Pugsley Addams on The Addams Family.

Ah, "The Addams Family." They're creepy and they're kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky. And so on. The ghoulish Addamses were created by cartoonist Charles Addams in the pages of The New Yorker before Hollywood came calling, adapting Addams' comics into a TV series in 1964. The series followed a family of weirdos who live every day like it's Halloween, much to the confusion of the normal folks all around them. The original "The Addams Family" series lasted only two seasons, running between 1964 and 1966, but its impact and influence continued for decades. 

Sadly, the majority of the original cast of "The Addams Family" are no longer with us. But there's one main player who is still around.

Lisa Loring, best known for being the first person to play Wednesday Addams on the original "The Addams Family" sitcom, has died. She was 64. Loring began her career as a child, first starting out as a child model at age three before appearing on an episode of the 1960s TV series "Dr. Kildare." When Loring was six she landed the role of the gloomy child Wednesday Addams on "The Addams Family," which ran from 1964 through 1966. Loring would also return to the role for reunion specials, including "Halloween with the New Addams Family" in 1977.

Original Wednesday Addams actress Lisa Loring has passed away at age 64.

Loring, who starred on “The Addams Family” from 1964-1966 for 64 episodes, died on Saturday after suffering a stroke.

Her daughter, Vanessa Foumberg, said: “She went peacefully with both her daughters holding her hands,” Variety reported.

After languishing in development for years, MGM is finally moving forward with its The Addams Family animated adaptation, bringing on director Conrad Vernon (Sausage Party) to take the helm. The filmmaker has also been brought on to produce the movie, alongside The Jackal Group's Gail Berman and Alex Schwartz. CG animation work is already under way in Vancouver, but MGM hasn't announced a release date, so it may be quite some time before it hits theaters, but it looks like it's finally on the right track after several years in development.

Ken Weatherwax, who played the brilliant but decidedly odd Pugsley Addams on "The Addams Family," has died at the age of 59.

The actor passed away after a heart attack in his home in Box Canyon, California. His niece, Shanyn Vieira, confirmed the news on Facebook.

As Pugsley, Weatherwax was part of a macabre and weird tribe that included father Gomez, mother Morticia, and sister Wednesday. The boy was fascinated by insects and explosive toys, and he was an inventive engineer who created an anti-gravity gun and a robot. Weatherwax portrayed Pugsley for the two seasons that the show aired on ABC from 1964 to 1966; reruns continued for years after.

After "The Addams Family," Weatherwax attempted to continue his acting career, but didn't land any major roles. He joined the Army and later worked as a grip and set builder, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He also made several appearances in "Addams Family"-related follow-ups.
