Popping up on our list of films we’re really keen to see this year is the British production Time Travel Is Dangerous. Directed by Chris Reading, who penned the script with Anna Elizabeth Shakespeare and Hillary Shakespeare, it’s a comedy headlined by Sophie Thompson, Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks, Mark Heap and Tony Way, with Stephen Fry narrating.

It’s a mockumentary, with a time machine ending up in the hands of, well, two people it’s best not to give a time machine to. A concept that the film appears to be having an awful lot of fun with.

Ricky Gervais is writing an animated comedy series about cats. Here are some early details of his latest project.

Ricky Gervais has tackled many areas of the entertainment industry – he co-wrote The Office, Extras and Life’s Too Short with Stephen Merchant, on his own he wrote and starred in Derek for Channel 4 and Afterlife for Netflix. He’s also starred in Hollywood films like Ghost Town and The Invention Of Lying, wrote and performed a string of sell out stand up comedy shows – Animals, Politics, Fame, Science, Humanity and he penned the bestselling Flannimals books.

According to the British Comedy Guide, Gervais is turning his hand to animation by writing a series about cats. The currently untitled show will see Gervais reunite with several stars of Afterlife, including Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan and Tony Way.

The author’s debut novel, “Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda,” was adapted as the gay teen romantic comedy movie “Love, Simon,” which – distributed by 20th Century Fox – grossed $66 million worldwide, and inspired the Hulu spin-off series “Love, Victor.”

Good Omens star David Tennant is to play infamous Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen in an ITV drama from the makers of Sky and HBO’s Catherine The Great.

New Pictures’ three-part miniseries, Des, is based on the Brian Masters book Killing For Company, in which the author cooperated with Nilsen to get inside the mind of a man who murdered at least 15 men and boys between 1978 and 1983. Nilsen died in jail last year.

Joining Tennant is The Crown star Jason Watkins, who will play Masters, and Line Of Duty actor Daniel Mays, who features as Detective Chief Inspector Peter Jay. The story charts Nilsen’s arrest and trial, through the prism of the three men.

Des was developed by Luke Neal and Lewis Arnold, with Neal writing the first two episodes and Kelly Jones penning the third. Willow Grylls, Kim Varvell, Charlie Pattinson, Elaine Pyke, Neal, Lewis Arnold and Tennant are the executive producers.

“Ray & Liz” — the haunted and pungent debut feature by photographer Richard Billingham, who’s been dabbling in the form since the late ’90s — feels like watching someone painstakingly build a rusty time machine that only brings them back to their own rotten past. And to what end?

Billingham’s work has always been lauded for its lack of overt beauty; his most acclaimed pictures find his layabout parents cooped up inside the bleakest council flat in all of Thatcher-era Birmingham, the images striking for their deprivation and self-sufficiency. Rather than mine his home life for manufactured poetry, Billingham shot his family with an anthropological flare, as though he’d smuggled a camera into an animal enclosure that the bourgeois art world had only seen from the outside. Netflix knows a hit when it has one.

The streamer has handed out a second season order to Ricky Gervais' After Life.

The series focuses on Tony Johnson (Gervais), a recent widower who struggles with his very existence following the death of his wife.

He decides that sticking around would be the best course of action after contemplating suicide. The reason for that is to say exactly what he's thinking and be as rude to whoever he wants for the rest of his life.

Also, he has to look after the dog he shared with his late wife.

The first season launched on Netflix on March 8, spanning six half-hour episodes. The second season will again have six episodes.

After Life received mixed to positive reviews from critics, with the freshman run currently standing at a 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ricky Gervais’ dark comedy After Life is coming back to Netflix for a second season.

The Svod platform has ordered another six-part run of the show, which was created, written and directed by The Office creator, who also starred in the lead role.

This comes after the British comedy, which is produced by Gervais’ Derek Productions, launched on Netflix in March. Last month, the Derek star revealed that he’d never had a reaction to a show that he created before and said that he had a “spring in his step as he skips towards writing season two”.

Turner Prize-nominated artist Richard Billingham turns his hand to filmmaking with an overwhelmingly personal, intricately observed depiction of his troubled upbringing and neglectful parents. This remarkably assured debut feature was born out of Billingham’s single-screen video artwork Ray and his acclaimed 1996 photography book Ray’s a Laugh, which captured his poverty-stricken domestic life with uncompromising honesty. Shot beautifully on 16mm, Ray & Liz proves just as candid and heralds Billingham as a unique cinematic voice.

The narrative unfurls through several vignettes and snapshots of Billingham’s childhood. We begin on an act that frames the other two set pieces – Ray (Patrick Romer) is a bedridden, old man whiling away the reminder of his life by staring out the window of his council flat and getting drunk by 9am on home-brewed beer. Myriad Pictures handles international sales at the Efm this week on British comedy For Love Or Money starring Robert Kazinsky, Samantha Barks and Ed Speleers.

Mark Murphy wrote and direct the film about a business man who sets a trap for his ex and her friend after he suspects them of plotting o to relieve him of a small fortune.

The cast includes Tony Way, Rachel Hurd-Wood, and Anna Chancellor. For Love Or Money shot in the UK last year and is in post.

It’s always a pleasure to be invited onto a film set, and even more so when you step into one where everybody seems to get on so well, which was the case on Mark Murphy’s The Revenger: An Unromantic Comedy.

And it’s a atmosphere which has infused the finished product too, as HeyUGuys were fortunate enough to be the very first UK outlet to watch the movie since its completion, and needless to say we’re big fans, as this congenial, very funny piece of cinema is all but set to be one of the stand-out British rom-coms of 2018.
