The American version of "The Office" ran for nine seasons on NBC, and it won four Primetime Emmy Awards. Perhaps you're doing a rewatch along with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey's podcast about the show, "Office Ladies." The podcast looks back at each episode in order, and in the one for "A Benihana Christmas," which is season 3, episodes 10 and 11, they talk about how they managed to get the rights to use John Mayer's song, "Your Body is a Wonderland."
In the episode, set during the holidays, Michael (Steve Carell) and his girlfriend, Carol (Nancy Walls), break up. Michael, Andy (Ed Helms), Dwight (Rainn Wilson), and Jim (John Krasinski) head to Benihana for dinner to cheer him up. Michael and Andy pick up waitresses from the restaurant and bring them back to the party. During the festivities, Andy and Michael sing "Your Body is a Wonderland" to the women.

Steve Carell is the hilarious dad we'd expect him to be. The father of two is as funny off screen with his children as he was in his Emmy-winning sitcom, "The Office," during its nine-season run. Steve has two kids: his daughter, Elisabeth Anne, and son, Johnny, both of whom are now adults. The two still support their famous father at his red carpet events - most recently for the latest installment of the Despicable Me franchise, "Minions: The Rise of Gru."
". . . They were all over it, like not even a hesitation," Steve previously told People about getting his kids to come to the premiere. "I think it's nostalgic at this point. They love the characters and they love the franchise. It's been a big part of our family." He added that the movie series "started when they were 4 and 7, and now they're 18 and 21."

Longtime TBS rising star Thom Hinkle has stepped down as head of original content for TBS, TNT and TruTV after less than a year in the top programming post. He will be replaced by Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain who have been promoted to co-head Scripted Originals for the three linear networks. They will report to Brett Weitz, General Manager, TBS, TNT and truTV.
Linsky, SVP of Original Programming, who recently celebrated 25 years with the company, will expand his responsibilities, alongside O’Riain, who has been promoted to SVP. Together, they will oversee the networks’ scripted content. Like most basic cable networks, Turner’s linear brands have been scaling back on original scripted series and ramping up their reality slates. Additionally, Linsky will work in partnership with Weitz and other company leaders to develop and execute strategic planning and programming initiatives.

Tom Hanks, one of the first celebrities to contract the coronavirus, is urging his fellow actors to contribute to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Covid-19 Relief Fund, which said Monday it has raised more than $7.8 million in contributions to aid SAG-AFTRA members in dire financial need.
“The devastating effects of Covid-19 are in our own backyard, and we’re doing what we can for our colleagues and collaborators who need help,” said Hanks, a member of the foundation’s Actors’ Council who along with his wife, Rita Wilson, have played major roles in the fundraising efforts. Like Hanks, Wilson tested positive for the virus in March while he was filming Elvis, the Elvis Presley biopic, in Australia.

The two Massachusetts natives have been married for nearly a quarter of a century, having tied the knot in August 1995, and together they have two children, Annie and John. However, if you think Nancy's biggest claim is being The Office star's wife, then you're terribly mistaken. Nancy Carell (née Walls) is an actor, comedian, and writer with an incredibly impressive résumé, and here are just a few facts you should probably know about the funny lady.

Exclusive: Brett Weitz continues to expand his turf at WarnerMedia. Eight months after he was promoted from Evp Programming for TBS to General Manager of TNT and TBS, Weitz is also taking on oversight of truTV. With the new title of General Manager of TNT, TBS & TruTV, he will now manage all three networks and oversee their creative executive teams and development in New York and Los Angeles. Concurrently, Thom Hinkle, most recently Evp Original Programming at TBS, has been upped to head of original content for all three networks, bringing TNT and truTV into his role.
Weitz’s promotion, part of a contract re-up that had been in the works for months, follows the May contract extension of Kevin Reilly, who added truTV to his portfolio as president of TNT, TBS and truTV and Chief Content Officer, HBO Max, leading to the departure of truTV president Chris Linn and layoffs at the network.

Netflix has ordered Kenya Barris’ single-camera comedy Black Excellence, the first series under the Black-ish creator’s overall deal at the streaming platform. Barris and Rashida Jones (Angie Tribeca) will star in the show inspired by Barris’ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race and culture.
Per Netflix, Black Excellence looks to pull the curtain back and reboot the “family sitcom” in a way we’ve never seen before.
Barris will make his acting debut on the show, said to be in the vein of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, which also marked David’s lead acting debut, as well as a premium take on Black-ish.
Barris and Jones will executive produce alongside Hale Rothstein. Barris’ production company, Khalabo Ink Society, will produce via Barris’ overall deal. The project opened a writers room last month.

Dying is easy, showbiz scripture dictates, and comedy is hard. But slipping into a coma, conceiving and delivering an illegitimate child, ending up in a "love rhombus," and somehow doing all of it with a straight face — that's a different matter entirely. Angie Tribeca burns through all that in the opening minutes of its currently-in-progress second season, compressing a heap of backlogged exposition and harebrained plot twists into approximately 100 seconds.

"Angie Tribeca" cast members Rashida Jones, Hayes MacArthur, Andree Vermeulen and Jere Burns and executive producer Ira Ungerleider joined moderator Dominic Patten (Deadline) on April 14 at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills to chat about their favorite moments from the first season of the hilarious TBS comedy that spoofs police procedurals. Listen to the audio podcast below. Fans and media in attendance were also treated to a screening of the Season 2 premiere (airing on June 6, just one week before Emmy voting begins). -Break- Subscribe to Gold Derby Breaking News Alerts & Experts’ Latest Oscar Predictions "I was lucky enough to be asked to play this part. Spoofing police procedurals is one thing. Eviscerating them — as the new TBS comedy "Angie Tribeca" does with addictive glee — is another. Shows like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Axe Cop" and even more vicious parodies like "Reno 911" utilize absurd humor to make light of jobs often depicted with the utmost seriousness in TV and movies, but we haven't seen a live action cop comedy as delightfully cartoonish as Steve Carell and Nancy Walls Carell's creation since "Police Squad" went one and done back in 1982. Since then, cop dramas have kept stacking up, making more and more scenarios, lines and characters into cliches — and thus ripe for parody. Rashida Jones and her merry men tackle each and every one of those cliches with such casual acceptance that it would be easy to mistake "Angie Tribeca" as simple. After all, it's only slightly serialized (by today's standards) and extremely consistent in style, tone and presentation.

The measure of "Angie Tribeca" (TBS), a cop-show spoof in the tradition of "Police Squad!," "Sledge Hammer!," and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (Fox), may be my inexplicable notes on its 10-episode first season, combining — I kid you not — tallies of "smiles," "chuckles," and "LOLs" with choice morsels of the series' manic humor: "That cross-dresser's attacking that baby!" The vomiting man reappears, this time upon seeing a pet ferret. Nice "The Price is Right" joke from the forensic specialist. Read More: "'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Has Some Weaknesses—and a Secret Weapon" After all, there's no such thing as an "Angie Tribeca" spoiler. Out of context (and, nearly as often, in context), it's nonsense — a gleeful attempt to twist the familiar conventions of the police procedural into comic chaos. This week, the comedy series Angie Tribeca premiered on TBS. Rashida Jones plays Lapd Detective Angie Tribeca in this darkly funny spoof of police procedurals from executive producers Steve and Nancy Carell. TBS is launching the series on Sunday, Jan. 17, beginning at 9pm Et/Pt with a 25-hour, commercial-free marathon of the first 10 episodes. The series continues with Episodes 11-20 premiering Mondays beginning Jan. 25. TBS has put together a rather humorous press release that deserves to be shared with the world, so here it is: TBS To Launch Angie Tribeca With 25-hour Marathon Of Commercial-free Episodes Starting Jan. 17 Rashida Jones, Hayes MacArthur, Jere Burns, Deon Cole And Andree … Continue reading →

Every time I sing the praises of TBS' "Angie Tribeca" on Twitter, I get one of two responses: "That's a comedy? I thought it was another boring police procedural." and "That's a real show? I thought it was a viral video parody promoting a product I couldn't quite identify." On the one hand, this speaks to what a poor job TBS has done of marketing the show, which will debut with a 25-hour, commercial-free marathon of its first season(*) on Sunday night at 9. On the other, put those two misconceptions together, and you more or less have "Angie Tribeca." It's a real show, but one so committed to parodying police procedurals like "NCIS" and "Law & Order: Svu" that it's hard to put any one moment in a promo and not have it look like the genuine article. (*) There are only 10 episodes of that season, so each episode will air...

Rashida Jones is okay with getting a little animal feces on her hand in the pursuit of comedy. Unfortunately, viewers won’t catch that deleted scene when her ludicrous TBS comedy Angie Tribeca premieres its entire first season in a 25-hour commercial-free marathon Sunday night. But audiences are in for a crazy ride regardless. Co-created by Steve and Nancy Carell, Angie Tribeca centers on a tough Lapd detective who keeps a poker face while saying and doing ridiculous things, Naked Gun–style. Jones took time out of filming the seventh episode of the second season, which will air later this year, to chat with Vulture about how Angie differs from sweet Ann Perkins, what her real-life parents (Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton) will do on the show, and why she can’t stop living in the ’90s.Angie Tribeca as a role is more technical than others you’ve played.

If you love brash gags, relentless in-jokes, wordplay and un-self-conscious goofiness as I do, then Angie Tribeca is so for you. Created by Steve Carell and Nancy Carell, the mock cop comedy procedural starring Rashida Jones that premieres January 17 on TBS should be, and could be, as I say in my video review above, a breakout for the Kevin Reilly-run new and seemingly improved network. With clear homages to the short-lived Police Squad! from 1982, its Naked Gun spinoff…...

For those who’ve been missing that Zucker Brothers or Get Smart sense of humor in their TV comedy, TBS’ Angie Tribeca could fill that vacancy. Consider the fact that it’s been 34 years since Police Squad was on the air, and 46 years since Get Smart ended its run. For Angie Tribeca creators Steve and Nancy Carell, resurrecting this sub genre of comedy really wasn’t a challenge, especially in a single cam era. Initially Carell said at TCA today that when he first pitched Ang…...

The starry cast of TBS’ new comedy “Angie Tribeca” was upstaged by a four-legged co-star Thursday during the panel for the show at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Steve Carell and Nancy Carell, who executive produce the series, were joined by cast members including Rashida Jones, Jere Burns, Hayes MacArthur, Deon Cole and Andree Vermeulen. But the group gladly ceded attention to Jagger, the German shepherd. After Jagger hopped up on a chair on his own, the first question was inevitably about what it was like to work with an animal who had such a prominent role. Also Read: Steve.

Chicago – When HollywoodChicago.com last spoke to writer/director Adam McKay in 2013, he was about to release “Anchorman 2,” and wasn’t really known for anything but his wacky comedy films. That all changed this month, with the release of “The Big Short,” a brilliant indictment of the financial meltdown of 2007 and ’08, and an impressively creative and serious effort from the comic director.
Adam McKay has roots in Chicago, he was a founding member here of the Uptight Citizens Brigade in 1990, and worked at The Second City on the main stage in 1995. He worked at ‘Saturday Night Live’ thereafter, and was head writer for three seasons up to 2001. After SNL, he pursued filmmaking in partnership with Will Ferrell, and directed “Anchorman,” “Talladega Nights” and “The Other Guys.” In 2007, he and Ferrell started the “Funny or Die” website, and just recently McKay helped to write the final draft screenplay for “Ant-Man.
