In The Departed, a rat is embedded within the Massachusetts State Police (Msp) by the Irish Mob, but the movie never reveals how Staff Sergeant Sean Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) learns that Sullivan (Matt Damon) is the double-crosser. The Departed follows Billy Costigan Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio), a recruit tasked with infiltrating the mob to determine the identity of their man inside the Msp. That rat is Colin Sullivan, who was groomed to rise through the ranks and become a top cop so that the mob will always be one step ahead. Billy successfully learns Sullivan is the rat, but he's murdered by another informant Frank had in the Msp.
The Departed famously ends with almost everybody dying, and in the very final minutes, when it seems like Sullivan has gotten away with his crimes, he enters his apartment to find Dignam, who shoots him dead. Dignam is a member of the...

After serving as a black ops commando for a number of years, McCall (Denzel Washington) does not fear a group of Russian mobsters in an extended clip from The Equalizer. Justified star David Meunier is featured in this scene as gangster Slavi, who is offered a large sum of money to let a young girl go. When Slavi refuses to accept the deal, McCall springs into action, although he falls quite short of his "15 second" goal for neutralizing these treacherous bad guys.
Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua introduce the extended four-minute scene from this upcoming remake, arriving in theaters September 26.
In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters.

Take heed, evildoers -- here comes "The Equalizer." Denzel Washington casts a long shadow in the simple, classy first poster for the upcoming thriller based on the 1980s TV series of the same name. Reuniting with his "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua, Washington plays a former intelligence officer who turns to vigilantism after growing frustrated with corrupt law enforcement. When he lends his expert aid to a teen prostitute ("Kick-Ass' star Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself facing down the Russian mob. Check out the poster here: "The Equalizer" is based on the CBS series which starred Edward Woodward and ran from 1985 to 1989. It also had a kick-ass theme song. The new version also stars Marton Csokas, Melissa Leo, Robert Wahlberg and Haley Bennett. "The Equalizer" opens September 26.

Nearly seven months before The Equalizer is set to hit theaters this fall, Sony Pictures is already developing a sequel to the big screen adaptation of the original 80s TV drama, hiring Richard Wenk (The Equalizer, The Expendables 2) to return for scripting duties
Sony made the decision to move forward on a follow-up after a December test screening yielded the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio's history. Denzel Washington is expected to reprise his role in the original as Robert McCall, a former Black Ops commander who lives a quiet life in Boston. When he helps rescue a teenage prostitute (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself going up against deadly Russian mobsters. Denzel Washington's original deal did not include an option for a sequel, even though Sony always imagined the project as the start of a potential franchise. If he does sign on, this will be the actor's first ever sequel.

Today we get our first look at Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming film, The Equalizer. Originally set to be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the upcoming crime thriller, which is based on the 80s TV show of the same name, reunites Washington with his Training Day director in a film that is already sounding very promising.
The always reliable actor, who is currently coming off a very, very hot streak, will step into the role of Robert McCall, “a retired covert operative who, seeking redemption for his dark deeds, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an advertisement in the paper that reads simply: Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”
Seeing as The Equalizer wrapped production this past summer, the image released today is likely just the first piece of an upcoming marketing campaign. It doesn’t give us much to go on, but then again,...

Columbia Pictures has released the first look at Denzel Washington as he reteams with his Training Day director, Antoine Fuqua (Olympus Has Fallen), in The Equalizer, which is loosely based on the late-'80s TV series centered on a private detective available for hire for problems you just don't know how to solve. Washington plays what has been described as a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized. With a no-nonsense attitude, compassion and experience with dealing with a wide variety of situations he's a powerful and useful detective. The film doesn't hit theaters until September 26, 2014 and co-stars include Chloe Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas, Haley Bennett, Johnny Messner and Robert Wahlberg. This film has had something of a rough path to production with both Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) dropping off the picture.

Chicago – One way to craft an unforgettable, undeniably adept film is to make a new one. Hollywood views that as financially risky, though, and it often doesn’t happen without being based on a book with a built-in audience or a film that’s already an international box-office success.

Contraband is shaping up to be one of the best action crime dramas of next year, and we’ve already been seeing some great things from it, in the form of the first official trailer back in September, followed up by the first and second posters for the film, and most recently the second trailer just over a month ago.
Mark Wahlberg stars in the lead – therefore guaranteeing its brilliance; I’m a big Wahlberg fan – alongside the likes of the excellent Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Beckinsale, J.K. Simmons, and Lukas Haas, with Wahlberg’s brother, Robert Wahlberg, also taking a smaller role.
We’ve now got a brilliant new clip to share with you from the film, courtesy of Fandango, which should nicely whet your appetite and get you as excited to see this as I am, if you aren’t already.

Contraband Trailer. Baltasar Kormákur‘s Contraband (2012) movie trailer stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi, and Lukas Haas. Contraband‘s plot synopsis: “Chris Farraday long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy, botches a deal for his ruthless boss, he’s forced back into doing what he does best — running contraband — to settle the debt.”
This not the first time this storyline has appeared on screen. “This is a remake of the 2008 film Reykjavik-Rotterdam, which Baltasar Kormákur also appeared in, featuring a new screenplay adaptation by Aaron Guzikowski.” The Contraband plot reminds me of the remake for Gone in Sixty Seconds where a criminal comes out retirement after another criminal related to them bungles a crime and will be killed.
Contraband also stars J.K. Simmons, Lukas Haas, Diego Luna, Robert Wahlberg, Monica Acosta, Jaqueline Fleming, Michael Beasley, Nedal Yousef, and Kirk Bovill.

Director Baltasar Kormákur’s Contraband – a remake of the 2008 Icelandic thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam – reads as being somewhat of a Noir thriller about a man (Mark Wahlberg) who is drawn back into his former (destructive) life of illegal smuggling.
However, the official Contraband trailer teases much of a popcorn thriller – complete with menacing villains who have goofy facial hair and a high-stakes-heist-oriented plot that looks to be more reminiscent of the 2003 Italian Job remake (which also starred Wahlberg) than anything else.
While Kormákur and his Contraband scriber (newcomer Aaron Guzikowski) aren’t exactly household names, the film has quite the noteworthy cast – which includes stars like Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale (the Underworld series), Ben Foster (The Mechanic), Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar), Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), Luke Haas (Inception), J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man), and Robert Wahlberg ...

This month has been one of the best that I can remember for trailers. All the studios were desperate for their trailer to get released before the Christmas holidays and we were inundated with posts. Since I love trailers so much, the inundation was most welcome. In what I am considering making a monthly post, here’s a roundup of all the trailers so far for December which I have embedded below for your viewing pleasure!
I’ve embedded them in the order in which they were released start December 1st to 31st and if I miss any, please let me know and I’ll update the post.
I really want this to be intereactive so make sure you tell us which trailers you liked the best and which you think will be great or terrible movies from what you’ve seen! So, let’s go!

Dicky Ecklund (Christian Bale) is a former boxing legend whose life has become shattered by drug abuse whilst Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg), his half brother, has become the town’s fighter and fading hope for a champion. Wahlberg's Son Baptised

Mark Wahlberg and his fiancee Rhea Durham celebrated the baptism of their youngest son with a church ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts last Sunday.
The couple planned the event at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Dorchester to coincide with Brendan Joseph's first birthday.
The family, including the pair's older children Ella Rae, five, and Michael, three, travelled from Los Angeles to the star's hometown for the baptism, which was held at the same church where they paid their last respects to Wahlberg's late father at his funeral last year.
The ceremony was attended by close friends and family, and saw Mark’s older brother Robert Wahlberg named godfather.
A source tells Radar Online, "Mark’s dad loved his older kids, Ella Rae and Michael. He didn’t live to meet Brendan so it was important for Mark to take the baby to the church were his dad was eulogised. It was a very loving and moving gesture on Mark’s part.”...

This week, our cup runneth over with a "Karate Kid" knockoff, a shot-for-shot remake and more documentaries than Michael Moore can shake an overpriced hot dog at.
"Blind Mountain"
The recipient of plenty of acclaim at last year's Cannes Film Festival, director Li Yang has a casual yet immediate style that's been touted as something of a Chinese answer to Ken Loach. "Blind Mountain" offers an uncomfortable but powerful indictment of China's one child policy and the sex trade that has flourished under it. The film follows the desperate struggle of a young woman who accepts a job in a remote mountain village, only to discover that she has unwittingly been sold into marriage as a slave.
Opens in New York.

Film review: 'Southie'

Like "Monument Ave.", also presented at the Montreal World Film Festival, John Shea's "Southie" is a drama set in the insular world of the Irish Boston underground. It explores familiar terrain in an effective if underwhelming manner and serves as a showcase for Donnie Wahlberg's budding thespian skills and Shea's well-textured direction.
Wahlberg plays Danny Quinn, who has returned to his Irish Catholic neighborhood of South Boston after a three-year absence. Now reformed and determined to avoid returning to a cycle of alcohol and crime, Danny soon finds that every time he tries to get out, they keep pulling him back in.
His family is a mess: His widowed mother (Anne Meara) is ill with a heart condition and increasingly distraught about her children; sister Kathy (Rose McGowan) is a self-destructive alcoholic; and brothers Davey (Robert Wahlberg) and Jimmy (Steve Koslowski) are in debt to the mob. His ex-girlfriend, Marianne (Amanda Peet), is bitter about his desertion and doesn't want anything to do with him, and his old nemesis, Joey Ward (James Cummings, who also co-scripted), is gunning for revenge.
Danny's old friends Whitey (Will Arnett) and Will (Josh Marchette) enlist him to help bankroll an after-hours gambling club, which he reluctantly agrees to after his opportunity for a legit construction job is scuttled by a brawl that breaks out between his brother and the son of the local union boss at a wedding reception. Unfortunately, Joey is another silent partner, and hell eventually breaks loose in a series of violent and tragic confrontations.
The film suffers from an overwrought narrative, with one melodramatic event after another. Not helping matters is Shea's tendency to indulge his actors, allowing them scenery-chewing histrionics that only accentuates the material's excesses.
Still, there's much raw talent on display, with Donnie Wahlberg matching brother Mark in terms of macho appeal and unforced naturalism and promising talents McGowan and Cummings providing equally vivid performances. Shea has a small role as Danny's cop cousin and underplays nicely. Lawrence Tierney, playing the local mob boss (who else?), provides his usual potent, noirish presence.
The film is most effective in its depiction of the insular world that the characters inhabit, with generous dashes of local color evocatively captured by Allen Baker's cinematography. The well-chosen soundtrack, featuring world and Celtic music as well as rap, adds greatly to the overall ambience.
