In The Departed, a rat is embedded within the Massachusetts State Police (Msp) by the Irish Mob, but the movie never reveals how Staff Sergeant Sean Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) learns that Sullivan (Matt Damon) is the double-crosser. Nearly seven months before The Equalizer is set to hit theaters this fall, Sony Pictures is already developing a sequel to the big screen adaptation of the original 80s TV drama, hiring Richard Wenk (The Equalizer, The Expendables 2) to return for scripting duties

Sony made the decision to move forward on a follow-up after a December test screening yielded the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio's history. Denzel Washington is expected to reprise his role in the original as Robert McCall, a former Black Ops commander who lives a quiet life in Boston. When he helps rescue a teenage prostitute (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself going up against deadly Russian mobsters. Denzel Washington's original deal did not include an option for a sequel, even though Sony always imagined the project as the start of a potential franchise. If he does sign on, this will be the actor's first ever sequel.

Today we get our first look at Denzel Washington in director Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming film, The Equalizer. Originally set to be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the upcoming crime thriller, which is based on the 80s TV show of the same name, reunites Washington with his Training Day director in a film that is already sounding very promising.

With a no-nonsense attitude, compassion and experience with dealing with a wide variety of situations he's a powerful and useful detective. Contraband Trailer. Baltasar Kormákur‘s Contraband (2012) movie trailer stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi, and Lukas Haas. This not the first time this storyline has appeared on screen. “This is a remake of the 2008 film Reykjavik-Rotterdam, which Baltasar Kormákur also appeared in, featuring a new screenplay adaptation by Aaron Guzikowski.” The Contraband plot reminds me of the remake for Gone in Sixty Seconds where a criminal comes out retirement after another criminal related to them bungles a crime and will be killed.

Contraband also stars J.K. Simmons, Lukas Haas, Diego Luna, Robert Wahlberg, Monica Acosta, Jaqueline Fleming, Michael Beasley, Nedal Yousef, and Kirk Bovill.

Director Baltasar Kormákur’s Contraband – a remake of the 2008 Icelandic thriller Reykjavik-Rotterdam – reads as being somewhat of a Noir thriller about a man (Mark Wahlberg) who is drawn back into his former (destructive) life of illegal smuggling.

However, the official Contraband trailer teases much of a popcorn thriller – complete with menacing villains who have goofy facial hair and a high-stakes-heist-oriented plot that looks to be more reminiscent of the 2003 Italian Job remake (which also starred Wahlberg) than anything else.

While Kormákur and his Contraband scriber (newcomer Aaron Guzikowski) aren’t exactly household names, the film has quite the noteworthy cast – which includes stars like Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale (the Underworld series), Ben Foster (The Mechanic), Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar), Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), Luke Haas (Inception), J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man), and Robert Wahlberg ...

This month has been one of the best that I can remember for trailers. All the studios were desperate for their trailer to get released before the Christmas holidays and we were inundated with posts. Since I love trailers so much, the inundation was most welcome. In what I am considering making a monthly post, here’s a roundup of all the trailers so far for December which I have embedded below for your viewing pleasure!

I’ve embedded them in the order in which they were released start December 1st to 31st and if I miss any, please let me know and I’ll update the post.

Yahoo have released an awesome new featurette which gives us a great behind the scenes look of new Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg’s new movie, The Fighter. The featurette looks specifically at Bale’s character of Dicky Eklund, how he lost all the weight to fit into the role and how all the other attributes that all merge together to create the real life character.

The Fighter also stars Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, Robert Wahlberg, Dendrie Taylor and is directed by David O. Russell.

Momentum have just sent us this new UK trailer for their new movie, The Fighter which stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Mark Wahlberg, Melissa Leo, Robert Wahlberg, Dendrie Taylor and is directed by David O. Russell. I’ve also come across this new promo reel which debuted on IGN. Both are embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

We invite you to check out the first trailer as well as two new images from Paramount Pictures' incredible "The Fighter" starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, Robert Wahlberg, Jack McGee, Salvatore Santone, Sean Patrick Doherty, Dendrie Taylor and Jenna Lamia . This one looks impressive with strong performances from the David O'Russell ("Three Kings," "I Heart Huckabees") film. Scott Silver, Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy wrote the screenplay from the story by Keith Dorrington, Tamasy and Johnson. Catch it in theatres from December 10th. Tells of Irish boxer "Irish" Micky Ward and his journey to fight for the world lightweight title. He was trained by his brother Dicky, an ex-drug-addict who turned trainer who once floored Sugar Ray Leonard. He had hard hitting fights including with Arturo Gatti among others. The ninth round of the first Gatti vs. Ward fight was called the round of the century by Emanuel Steward.

Mark Wahlberg and his fiancee Rhea Durham celebrated the baptism of their youngest son with a church ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts last Sunday.

The couple planned the event at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Dorchester to coincide with Brendan Joseph's first birthday.

The family, including the pair's older children Ella Rae, five, and Michael, three, travelled from Los Angeles to the star's hometown for the baptism, which was held at the same church where they paid their last respects to Wahlberg's late father at his funeral last year.

The ceremony was attended by close friends and family, and saw Mark’s older brother Robert Wahlberg named godfather.

A source tells Radar Online, "Mark’s dad loved his older kids, Ella Rae and Michael. He didn’t live to meet Brendan so it was important for Mark to take the baby to the church were his dad was eulogised. It was a very loving and moving gesture on Mark’s part.”...

"Blind Mountain"

The recipient of plenty of acclaim at last year's Cannes Film Festival, director Li Yang has a casual yet immediate style that's been touted as something of a Chinese answer to Ken Loach. "Blind Mountain" offers an uncomfortable but powerful indictment of China's one child policy and the sex trade that has flourished under it. The film follows the desperate struggle of a young woman who accepts a job in a remote mountain village, only to discover that she has unwittingly been sold into marriage as a slave.

Like "Monument Ave.", also presented at the Montreal World Film Festival, John Shea's "Southie" is a drama set in the insular world of the Irish Boston underground. It explores familiar terrain in an effective if underwhelming manner and serves as a showcase for Donnie Wahlberg's budding thespian skills and Shea's well-textured direction.

Wahlberg plays Danny Quinn, who has returned to his Irish Catholic neighborhood of South Boston after a three-year absence. Now reformed and determined to avoid returning to a cycle of alcohol and crime, Danny soon finds that every time he tries to get out, they keep pulling him back in.

His family is a mess: His widowed mother (Anne Meara) is ill with a heart condition and increasingly distraught about her children; sister Kathy (Rose McGowan) is a self-destructive alcoholic; and brothers Davey (Robert Wahlberg) and Jimmy (Steve Koslowski) are in debt to the mob. His ex-girlfriend, Marianne (Amanda Peet), is bitter about his desertion and doesn't want anything to do with him, and his old nemesis, Joey Ward (James Cummings, who also co-scripted), is gunning for revenge.

Danny's old friends Whitey (Will Arnett) and Will (Josh Marchette) enlist him to help bankroll an after-hours gambling club, which he reluctantly agrees to after his opportunity for a legit construction job is scuttled by a brawl that breaks out between his brother and the son of the local union boss at a wedding reception. Unfortunately, Joey is another silent partner, and hell eventually breaks loose in a series of violent and tragic confrontations.

The film suffers from an overwrought narrative, with one melodramatic event after another. Not helping matters is Shea's tendency to indulge his actors, allowing them scenery-chewing histrionics that only accentuates the material's excesses.

Still, there's much raw talent on display, with Donnie Wahlberg matching brother Mark in terms of macho appeal and unforced naturalism and promising talents McGowan and Cummings providing equally vivid performances. Shea has a small role as Danny's cop cousin and underplays nicely. Lawrence Tierney, playing the local mob boss (who else?), provides his usual potent, noirish presence.

The film is most effective in its depiction of the insular world that the characters inhabit, with generous dashes of local color evocatively captured by Allen Baker's cinematography. The well-chosen soundtrack, featuring world and Celtic music as well as rap, adds greatly to the overall ambience.
