The Good Doctor welcomes Peter Jacobson as a new cast member, adding to the exciting crossover appeal with House alumni. Fans can expect Jacobson's guest appearance in Season 7, Episode 2, bringing a unique sense of nostalgia and familiarity to the show. While the possibility of a Hugh Laurie cameo may be slim, The Good Doctor continues to engage audiences with familiar faces from House.
The Good Doctor is adding another House cast member to its ensemble, which is incredible news for audiences that admire both medical dramas. However, in some ways, the news is also a reminder of the fact that it may be too late for another highly-demanded House cameo in The Good Doctor. This makes the arrival of the House star bittersweet, giving audiences mixed feelings of excitement surrounding the new actor's appearance and longing for the one star who may never make a cameo.

After earning her first solo SAG Award nomination this morning for her turn in Netflix’s Maid, Margaret Qualley spoke with Deadline about her experience with the series, as well as upcoming roles in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Victorian drama Poor Things, Claire Denis’ The Stars at Noon and Zachary Wigon’s thriller Sanctuary, and the status of the film Fred & Ginger from director Jonathan Entwistle, in which she’s set to play Ginger Rogers opposite Jamie Bell’s Fred Astaire.
While Spider-Man‘s Tom Holland recently announced that he will topline his own Astaire biopic for Sony, Qualley is unaware at this point of when Fred & Ginger might get made. “I don’t know, but I hope it happens soon,” she says. “I love Jamie Bell so much and I’m always trying to be typecast as a dancer, so I can just dance in everything I do.

In the middle of the night, a young woman grabs her daughter and runs, using what little gas is left in her car to flee her abusive partner.
That’s the way “Maid,” a new drama on Netflix, starts, as Margaret Qualley’s Alex runs from her daughter’s brutish father (Nick Robinson). Alex, daughter (Rylea Nevaeh Whittet) in tow, finds itinerant employment as a home cleaner, but the hours aren’t enough to liberate her financially, and endless challenges with childcare, the legal system, and an impossible housing market mean that Robinson’s Sean swirls in and out of her life.
“Maid” is not exactly naturalistic — the show is not shy about using sometimes overheated visual metaphor to convey a plight that we already understand is quite challenging, and some of the performances and dialogue are quite florid. But the series does generally have an admirable soberness and seriousness...

Real-life mother-daughter duo Margaret Qualley and Andie MacDowell share the screen in a new trailer for Netflix’s upcoming drama series “Maid.”
Inspired by Stephanie Land’s 2019 memoir “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive,” the 10-episode drama stars Qualley as Alex, “a single mother who turns to housecleaning to — barely — make ends meet as she escapes an abusive relationship and overcomes homelessness to create a better life for her daughter, Maddy,” according to Netflix’s description. “Seen through the emotional yet humorous lens of a desperate but determined woman, this series is a raw and inspiring exploration of a mother’s resilience.”
MacDowell co-stars as Paula, Alex’s “undiagnosed bipolar” mother.
“Shameless” veteran Molly Smith Metzler serves as showrunner on the series, which also stars Nick Robinson, Anika Noni Rose, Tracy Vilar and Billy Burke.

A new mockumentary culinary series titled Gods of Food is set to premiere on subscription-based streaming service Dropout by CollegeHumor next month, the streamer announced today.
The six-episode season will skewer a range of fine dining tropes, that are all too familiar to fans of cooking shows.
The series was created and written by CollegeHumor cast member and head writer Rekha Shankar, who also serves as an executive producer.
“Cooking shows are one of my favorite things to watch,” said Shankar. “But while the most gorgeous food shows are full of love and passion, they can also be full of dysfunctional personalities and bizarre ideas. I hope Gods of Food resonates with foodies like me in that it’s full of beautiful food, but also pokes fun at some of the tendencies of culinary shows.”

It was only a matter of time. CBS has cancelled Partners, the new sitcom from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.
Revolving around a pair of best friend architects, Partners stars Michael Urie, David Krumholtz, Sophia Bush, Brandon Routh, and Tracy Vilar.
The show debuted to a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.56 million viewers, substantially lower than the CBS sitcoms that preceeded and followed it. The numbers have gotten worse as the season has progressed and Monday's episode hit a new low with a 1.8 demo rating and 5.48 million viewers.
While those numbers would have been good enough to keep the show on the air on NBC or Fox, they weren't high enough for CBS. They've opted not to order a full season of episodes and have pulled the show from the schedule effective immediately.

I'm rooting for CBS' Partners, and not just because it's a sitcom featuring two gay characters in prominent roles: It's because when new shows about gay characters are pitched, risk-averse TV suits say things like, "Yes, your show might work! But before we give it a shot, we'll have to see how Partners does first." That's right: There are people in positions of power who believe that if one sitcom about gay people fails, others are doomed too.
It's unfair and doesn't make sense, but the bottom line is if Partners gains traction and a following, we're more likely to see other multicamera shows with openly gay characters. I'm happy for The New Normal's full season pickup and Modern Family's continued success, but the world of multicamera is its own quaint hamlet of delights, and I'd like to see more gay characters on TV who crack jokes and pause for the laugh track.

Last week, CBS' Partners debuted to some disappointing ratings. The network has cancelled numerous sitcoms in the past couple years -- half-hour comedies that just didn't measure up. Will Partners be dropped too? Would you cancel or keep it?
Partners follows a pair of best friends and business partners. Their relationship starts to change when one of them becomes engaged to be married. The sitcom cast includes Michael Urie, David Krumholtz, Sophia Bush, Brandon Routh, and Tracy Vilar.
The sitcom debuted with a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.56 million total viewers. Those numbers look okay if you're NBC but they're quite low by CBS standards -- and really low when compared to the network's other sitcoms.
Of CBS' current six sitcoms, Partners' ratings are 23% below Mike & Molly's, the next lowest performer.

In this age of smart, single-camera comedies, watching CBS' new sitcom "Partners" feels like an unwelcome walk down memory lane. It's filled with cliches, obvious jokes and seemingly canned laughter...but you'll still laugh in spite of yourself.
"Partners" follows the lifelong Bff-ship between David Krumholtz's Joe and Michael Urie's Louis, who are now partners in their own New York City architecture firm. Krumholtz is the likable Jewish everyguy; Urie is his overwhelming gay friend.
Complicating their bromance is the fact that Joe has just gotten engaged to jewelry designer Ali (Sophia Bush), and Urie is in a long-term relationship with the handsome but dimwitted nurse Wyatt (Brandon Routh). Urie meddles; hijinks ensue.

Despite the old-school, obvious gay/straight jokes that pepper the sitcom, it's hard not to see some potential in the cast of the comedy, from "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick.

Exclusive: CBS’ half-hour pilot Partners has reworked and recast some of its supporting characters. The multicamera project, from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, centers on lifelong friends and business partners —architects Charlie (David Krumholtz), who is straight, and Louis (Michael Urie), who is gay. Co-starring as the duo’s significant others are Sophia Bush as Charlie’s fiancé Ali and Brandon Routh as Louis steady partner. Also originally cast as regulars in the pilot were Elizabeth Regen as Ro-Ro, Charlie and Louis’ colorful assistant, and Brit Lucy Davis as Renata, droll bookkeeper for Charlie’s fiancé Ali, a jewelry boutique owner. After the pilot’s table read, the Ro-Ro role was made guest-starring (with series option) and was recast with Tracy Vilar. The character of Renata has been written out while a new guest-starring role, Cassandra, has been introduced, with Saturday Night Live alumna Molly Shannon tapped to play it.
