Before Adam Scott portrayed the severed macrodata refiner Mark S. on Severance, he was widely known as an auditor named Ben Wyatt, the love interest of Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), and the inventor of the “Cones of Dunshire” on the NBC hit sitcom Parks and Recreation.
But, is there a connection between Ben and Mark? Some viewers seem to think so. Per People, Scott, during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, addressed the possible similarities between the two characters.
“Your character on Parks and Rec, they’ve connected to your character on Severance. You know about this? There are clues there in things that you said to Leslie on the show that somehow apply to Severance,” Kimmel said.
The Severance Procedure is Like a “Firewall”
The host was referring to the eleventh episode of Season 6 of Parks and Recreation.

This article contains Spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 10, "Cold Harbor."
Season 1 of Severancesaw the (failed) reintegration of former Lumon severed worker Petey (Yul Vasquez), but that didn’t stop Mark Scout (Adam Scott) from deciding to go through with the reintegration procedure with the help of former Lumon employee Asal Reghabi (Karen Aldridge). As a severed worker, Mark had a separate “innie” who worked on Lumon’s severed floor and an “outie” who lived in the outside world.
Flash forward to Season 2’s third episode, Outie Mark seemed fully committed to reintegrating his two selves, but as of the Season 2 finale, the process has not fully been completed. In the opening act of the finale, titled “Cold Harbor,” Outie Mark promises Innie Mark he will completely reintegrate.
In an interview with Variety, Severance creator Dan Erickson talked about what Outie Mark actually meant when he made that promise to his innie.

Spoilers ahead for “Severance” Season 2, Episode 10.
Heading into Season 2, “Severance” star Tramell Tillman had one request for series creator Dan Erickson and director Ben Stiller: “Please don’t make me dance in Season 2.”
“The Music Dance Experience [in Season 1] was so iconic, and I loved how people embraced that moment,” Tillman told TheWrap. “It has become meme-ed over and over and over again, it’s on T-shirts and whatnot. It’s beautiful. But there are some things that you can’t recreate.”
Tillman was adamant that he didn’t want to set up the expectation that Mr. Milchick dances every season. But when Stiller mentioned he was bringing in a marching band for the Season 2 finale, Tillman started to change his tune.
“I got excited. I sat up. I said, ‘Well, wait, what is this marching band? Is this a military-style marching band? Is this a band that’s a similar to those at HBCUs?...

The Severance Season 2 finale, “Cold Harbor,” answered a lot of burning questions fans had, including what Cold Harbor actually is and (sort of) what’s going on with those goats. Fans got other resolutions in prior episodes as well, including the answer to where Gemma (Dichen Lachman) has been all the time and why Harmony (Patricia Arquette) felt so slighted by Lumon firing her (and why Helena — Britt Lower — still offered her a job to placate her).
The ending was beautifully, emotionally presented, but left fans with yet another epic cliffhanger to digest for the next little while until a not-yet-confirmed Season 3 arrives (it’s likely the show will be renewed). There are plenty of questions that remain, but one big, new question has arrived that’s crucial to how the story will move forward.

The final sections of this article contain spoilers from Severance Season 2, Episode 7, "Chikhai Bardo," now streaming on Apple TV+.
One of the most intriguing TV shows streaming on Apple TV+’s Severance. From the unique premise to the wonderful cast and the beautiful cinematography and direction, the show is fully committed to delivering something never seen before. It's an excellent mix of thriller, sci-fi, and absurdist comedy, following a set of peculiar characters who have surgically divided their personal and work lives.
Following delays from the writer’s strike,Severance's second season finally premiered—three years after the first season's harrowing conclusion. It included a frustrating cliffhanger involving the identity of a character named Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman) and how she relates tothe series' central protagonist. But who is Ms. Casey? Like most things in Severance, the answer is much more complex than it seems.

If you're not current on season 2 of "Severance" — including episode 4, "Woe's Hollow" — you might want to clock out now, because this article contains spoilers.
When the series finale of "Seinfeld" aired in 1998, I remember sitting down with my parents to watch it. A handful of years later, my mom asked me to join her while she watched the series finale of "Sex and the City". During the run of "Game of Thrones," I loved inviting a big group of friends over to my tiny apartment to react to the show in real time. This is all to say that I miss TV shows and singular episodes with such a huge cultural footprint that everyone sits down to watch it at the same time. In recent years, shows like "The White Lotus" have helped satisfy this requirement, and the last season of "Succession" was probably the best example of what we can call "appointment television,...

This article contains spoilers for "Severance" Season 2, Episode 4, "Woe's Hollow."
"Severance" is rapidly becoming the best show in the game, at least when it comes to creating wild yet oddly plausible fan theories about the true nature of Lumon Industries and its severed employees' predicament. After the previous episode's excursion to the wonderfully-named Mammalians Nurturable goat department, Season 2, Episode 4, "Woe's Hollow," adds plenty more gasoline in the theory fire.
As the innie versions of Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro) find themselves in a strange wintery excursion at a nature reserve that's dripping with ominous Eagan lore, Irving becomes increasingly hostile toward the others and eventually targets Helly. His violent and seemingly genuine threats to drown her ultimately lead to the reveal that Helly's outie, Helena Eagan, has been posing as her innie self for unknown reasons. This is plenty weird in itself.

This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Severance."
"Severance" is one of the best TV shows of the past decade. It's a brilliant satire about modern corporate life wrapped up in a compelling mystery. Though there have been many, many, many genre series that have tried to replicate the success of "Lost" by building mystery boxes with large casts of characters, exceedingly few have succeeded at it.
What makes "Severance" stand out is that, much like "Lost," the answers to its mysteries are only compelling because we care about its characters. Hence, because the characters have a vested interest in these mysteries, we as viewers also want to solve them. Take Irving's outie (John Turturro); the reason we want to know the truth about the bizarre visions of a dark door plaguing him is because we're already invested in his innie's romance with Burt G. [This story contains spoilers from season two, episode two of Severance, “Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig.”]
“Okay. You’re not picking up. I get it. I want you to know, my innie got the message.”
It’s one of just a few lines from Irving (John Turturro) in the latest installment of Severance, “Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig,” which serves as a counterpoint to the season two premiere. Where the first episode focused solely on the innies on the other side of the overtime contingency plan, episode two centers on the outies as they navigate the aftermath of their work selves’ actions.
We see exactly how the ensuing hours played out for every single one of the Mdr Four, with one exception: Irving. John Turturro’s doggedly dogmatic worker bee lost his loyalty to Lumon across the first season, thanks to his growing love for Burt (Christopher Walken). After Burt’s forced retirement, Irving pushed all in on the innies’ plot to break out into the real world.

The second season of Severance, which debuts tonight on Apple TV+, proves that the corporate sci-fi drama has still got it. But it has also been [checks notes] three years since we last got an episode, so you cannot be blamed for feeling a little fuzzy on what was happening back then. Fortunately, we have more compassion for you than Lumon has for its severed employees, so we’ve assembled this refresher course heading into this new season (which we’ll be recapping every week).

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 1 of “Severance,” streaming on Apple TV+.
A recap is available upon request.
“Severance” returns on Apple TV+ this Friday, but it’s been nearly three years since the first season of the sci-fi workplace thriller ended on a brutal cliffhanger.
So, before you head back into the office Jan. 17, here are some things you should remember from Season 1. If you’re looking to freshen up on just the finale episode, skip to the end.
Innies and Outies
“Severance” follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott), a man who is grieving the loss of his wife Gemma outside of the office — and who is blissfully unaware he has a wife inside the office. That’s because he works at the mysterious Lumon Industries and underwent an experimental and controversial “severance” procedure, essentially splitting himself into two different people: his innie and his outie. When severed people enter the Lumon office,...

Severance, which premiered on AppleTV+ nearly three years ago, rests on a provocative soft sci-fi premise: a corporation offering employees the chance to bisect their consciousness, so that they don’t actually experience their workdays. When it launched, barely a year into the “quiet quitting” era, Severance’s dystopian portrait of work was hailed for its relevance. My fellow critics are overwhelmingly rapturous about it, and while I understand why, I can’t join them. My problem with Severance is how its dangling plot threads mostly seem designed to inspire fan theories online, and that being on AppleTV+ will neuter any political commentary it may attempt to inject.
For those who haven’t watched the show — and statistically, that’s nearly all of you — Severance is set in and around the offices of a fictional corporation called Lumon. We get vague inklings that the company is (officially) involved in the healthcare industry,...

Warning: Spoilers for Severance Season 1.
Arguably one of the best series currently out there, Severance is finally returning to Apple TV+ after a three-year hiatus. Ahead of its release, the highly anticipated second season already has a nearly perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t surprising. Hailed by audiences and critics alike, the science fiction psychological thriller is unlike anything else currently streaming. The series follows a group of workers employed by a large biotechnology corporation known as Lumon Industries. However, no one knows what they do every day upon arriving at work. Thanks to a procedure known as “severance,” once Mark (Adam Scott) and his coworkers descend the elevator in Lumon’s building, an implant inside their mind is activated, and their work consciousness takes over.
Referred to as “Innies” and “Outies,” each consciousness is completely unaware of what the other does. When at the cult-like company, the...

After a long wait and a great deal of anticipation, Severance officially returns this week. Season 1 of the Apple TV+ sci-fi drama follows both of Mark's (Adam Scott) lives; as his "outie" becomes suspicious of the mysterious company he works for, Lumon Industries, after a visit from his co-worker, Petey (Yul Vazquez), his "innie" starts to do some investigating into what exactly his job is, and what Lumon is hiding from its employees who have chosen to undergo the controversial severance procedure.

Three years is a long time to wait ... especially for all of us non-Severed people. I mean, fine, you can argue that the entirety of "Severance" season 1 probably should've dissuaded anyone of the notion that there's any real "upside" to being an innie. Well, say what you want about those Lumon employees, but the ability to flip a switch and suddenly fast forward to the moment when season 2 finally arrives sure would've come in handy during this lengthy layoff, wouldn't it? The Applet TV+ series was a casualty of the duel strikes that hit the film and television industries, but it's now ready to put such unpleasantness behind it and kick viewers in the face with even more dark, dystopian, and downright bizarre office place shenanigans in its sophomore season.
Of course, all that downtime should've provided ample opportunity for the more forward-looking pencil-pushers among us to re-watch the debut...

Petey was a minor character in Severance season 1 who unfortunately died at the end of episode 3. The plot of Severance follows several employees of Lumon Industries who have undergone the severance procedure, which means that their work lives and personal lives are divided. Essentially, the characters' "innies" and "outies" are completely different people. The cast of Severance includes Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette, and Christopher Walken. The Severance season 1 cast also included Yul Vazquez as Petey.
While Petey was set up as an intriguing character who left Lumon Industries in season 1, he suddenly died in the third episode. Before the events of season 1, Petey discovered some Lumon secrets that prompted him to leave the company. However, the effects of the severance procedure eventually led to his death. Therefore, it is currently unknown if Petey will appear in the upcoming Severance season 2. However, after...

Even in the current era of streaming services, police procedural television is still going strong with shows like NCIS, Law & Order: Svu and 9-1-1 continuously pulling in impressive viewership numbers. These shows usually have numerous seasons and fresh plots that force the audience to think. However, for every popular procedural show, there are bound to be some that receive significantly lesser attention, despite being as good as, if not better than popular police procedurals.
These procedurals didn't get proper time in the spotlight. Instead, they either got overshadowed by more famous shows, had concepts that viewers weren't ready for, or simply got lost in the shuffle. From AI-based thrillers like Person of Interest to fantasy cop shows like Grimm, these underrated procedural shows deserve more recognition. They offer the same mystery, thrills, and adrenaline-spiking action that the genre is so well-loved for.

There's no shortage of Stephen King shows on TV. The prolific horror author's works have been translated to the small screen no fewer than two dozen times across five-plus decades, beginning with Tobe Hooper's "Salem's Lot" miniseries in 1979 and spanning all the way to an upcoming "Sleeping Beauties" adaptation and Mike Flanagan's highly anticipated take on "The Dark Tower." Plenty of King shows have enjoyed celebrated runs and completed the stories their creators planned to tell, but there are a few that slipped through the cracks and were canceled too soon. Among them is "The Outsider," an utterly creepy King adaptation that got the short end of the stick when it debuted in 2020.
"The Outsider" earned rave reviews when it premiered on HBO in January of that year, but by the time its finale aired, the world had other things on its mind.

War of the Worlds, the sci-fi horror film directed by Steven Spielberg, will land like a mothership on a streaming service soon. The movie starring Tom Cruise will be added to Prime Video's catalog starting November 1.
Based on the literary classic of the same name by H.G. Wells, War of the Worlds is one of Spielberg's most underrated features in a sea of genre films. Released in 2005, the project was produced during the early days of the Internet, and fortunately, nothing was leaked. When audiences saw Spielberg's alien invasion film for the first time, its scale was a throwback to some of his most memorable movies. Only this time, aliens were here to exterminate us as a species and didn't exactly play a 5-note salute as a peace offering.

Fans of Stephen King's novel "The Outsider" were disappointed by HBO's decision to cancel the critically acclaimed series after just one season. King himself, along with crime novelist Linwood Barclay, believes that the show deserved a second season due to its gripping storyline and talented ensemble cast. Despite the cancellation of "The Outsider," Stephen King continues to thrive in the world of adaptations, with several highly anticipated projects in the works, including "Salem's Lot" and "The Long Walk."
Bestselling horror author Stephen King has a lot of opinions about movie and TV content, especially when it comes to adaptations of his own work. He regularly voices these opinions using his X account. One such opinion has to do with HBO's 2020 series The Outsider, an adaptation of his novel of the same name which he clearly believes deserved more than a single season.

HBO's The Outsider, which is now streaming on Max, is a 2020 TV series about the killing of a child. Or at least it starts out that way. Since it's based on a book by Stephen King, you can be sure that the circumstances of the killing turn out to be extremely weird and unsettling. As a matter of fact, things quickly don't add up for Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn), the police detective who investigates the case. While he has a great deal of evidence leading him to believe that Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman) did it, after he arrests Terry, he begins to doubt Terry's guilt.
This leads to a story that could only come from the mind of Stephen King,...

When it premiered on Netflix, Narcos became a massive hit. Following the rise of Pablo Escobar as the most powerful drug lord in Latin America, the series came from co-creators Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard, and Doug Miro. Since the three-season series ended, we have gotten a Mexico-set spin-off and the promise of more. The creators have gone their separate ways with Miro running Netflix series Griselda, also based on a true story about the infamous title queenpin. Now, Brancato has reunited with Narcos director Guillermo Navarro for a new series, Hotel Cocaine, also inspired by a true crime tale but heavily fictionalized for a pulpy good time.

Yul Vazquez enjoys playing villainous characters like Nestor in Hotel Cocaine, finding them fun and terrifying with a sprinkle of humor. Vazquez admits he's confused about the plot of Severance, never given actual information about his character's mysteries at Lumon. Hotel Cocaine follows Roman Compte in Miami during the '70s and '80s cocaine scene, with Vazquez playing the dangerous crime lord Nestor expertly.
We recently spoke with longtime character actor Yul Vazquez, who plays Nestor Cabal in the wild new series Hotel Cocaine, now streaming on MGM+. Nestor is the villainous brother of the show's true protagonist, Roman Compte (Danny Pino), who runs an iconic Miami hotel in the late '70s. The Mutiny Hotel welcomed public figures such as famed author Hunter S. Thompson who is actually featured in the pilot episode and portrayed by John Ventimiglia (The Sopranos).

“Every pleasure has a price,” Roman Compte tells us at the top of Hotel Cocaine, MGM+’s new drama about the rise of coke in late-1970s Miami. And by the end of the hour, we know exactly how high those prices will rise for Roman and his family.
But let’s back up a minute. As Roman (played by Law & Order: Svu‘s Danny Pino) explains via voiceover, he’s the general manager of the Mutiny Club and Hotel, a coke-fueled disco full of pretty people and celebrities. Even though Miami is ruled by drug kingpins who hold fast to their territories,...

Hotel Cocaine premieres tonight at 9/8c on MGM+.
The series tosses us back to the glitz, glamour, and high-profile crime of Miami in 1978.
It highlights the Latino influence on our culture and our values, but not in the way that you might think.
For this series, creator and executive producer Chris Brancato and executive producer and director Guillermo Navarro use the background we know so well to highlight a sense of family and commitment that sours through the community.
We talked with them and the cast to get a thorough understanding of the series, which we have seen almost in its entirety.

“Colorful, intriguing, dangerous,” is how Danny Pino describes the world of Roman Compte, the real-life Cuban exile and general manager of Miami’s Mutiny Hotel and its glitzy nightclub, ground zero for the disco era’s cocaine scene. In the fictionalized eight-part drama, Hotel Cocaine, created by Chris Brancato (Godfather of Harlem), DEA agent Zulio (Michael Chiklis) pressures Compte to rat on his drug kingpin brother Nestor Cabal (Yul Vazquez) by threatening to disrupt the life of Roman’s teenage daughter Valeria (Corina Bradley). Pino gives us a room key. Carlos Rodriguez/MGM+ How is this role different from others you’ve played? Danny Pino: It’s different from the precinct in Manhattan investigating sex crimes [on Svu]. Roman is in the Studio 54 of the Caribbean. And he was an actual person. There’s pressure to get it right. I’m playing the father of Maurice Compte, a fellow actor on Mayans M.

The Mutiny Hotel was Casablanca on cocaine; a glitzy nightclub, restaurant, and hotel frequented by Florida businessmen and politicians, international narcos, CIA and FBI agents, models, sports stars, and musicians. At the center of it all was Compte, who was doing his best to keep it all going and fulfill his own American Dream.

Adam Scott's Mark Scout faces repercussions for rebelling against Lumon Industries in Severance season 2. Season 2 footage teases Mark's reintegration process, hinting at a darker path similar to Petey's journey in season one. Flashbacks to Mark's Lumon origins may be explored in the upcoming season, adding complexity to the sinister company's story.
Although the first season of Severance, Apple TV+'s acclaimed original series, hit the streaming platform in 2022, viewers are just now getting a glimpse at the thriller's sophomore outing and the tease has huge implications for Adam Scott's Mark Scout. A science-fiction-heavy psychological thriller, Severance centers on Mark, an employee of Lumon Industries. Severance's cast of characters, including Mark, have agreed to partake in the "severance" program, a procedure that surgically separated his work memories from his personal memories. Theoretically, this helps Lumon employees maintain a work-life balance, but that's not the reality of it.
