Months after her latest film Joker: Folie à Deux opened to bad reviews and very disappointing box office, Lady Gaga is sharing her perspective on the matter.

“People just sometimes don’t like some things,” Gaga told Elle in an interview published Tuesday. ‘It’s that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn’t connect in the way that you intended.” She adds that the fear of failure is what can be really damaging: “When that makes its way into your life, that can be hard to get control of. It’s part of the mayhem.”

Warner Bros. very ambitious Todd Phillips musical sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, will debut on Max on Friday, Dec. 13 with a linear premiere on HBO on Dec. 14 at 8Pm Est.

The movie, which saw Joaquin Phoenix reprise his Oscar winning role of the DC villain, also starred Lady Gaga. The first 2019 movie was at one point, before Marvel Studios/Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine unseated it, the highest grossing R-rated movie of all-time at $1.1 billion. The sequel was fully rejected by moviegoers with a D Cinemascore, opening to an awful $37.6M stateside (versus the first movie’s record October bow of $96.2M) and finaling at $58.3M domestic, $206.4M worldwide off a $190M production cost before P&a. Reports have suggested that the sequel will lose around $100M.

Exhibition has no reason to complain: That’s a 71-day theatrical window for Joker 2 from its Oct. 4 opening day until its drop on Max.

The divisive film grossed $206 million at the global box office, including $58 million in North America. It cost $200 million to produce and is expected to lose at least $150 million to $200 million in its theatrical run.

Variety‘s chief film critic Peter Debruge called “Folie à Deux” a “scandalously unpopular sequel” and wrote that this time around, it “feels like ‘Joker’ hates us — or, more to the point, it’s as if Phillips turned on his original audience.”

While this year has had its fair share of surprising flops, Joker: Folie à Deux is probably one of the more surprising ones. It had the hype of Lady Gaga taking on the role of Harley Quinn and the musical twist potentially lent itself to exploring interesting territory as an R-rated sequel to a notorious comic book villain. The movie’s response would become incredibly underwhelming, and Blu-ray.com has announced that Warner Bros. is already set to release the film’s 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray release on December 17. The digital release is going to be even sooner, with a recent Variety report on the film’s box office woes revealing WB is dumping it on digital early – October 29 – in the hopes of recouping some of its $200 million investment.

In the latest glimpse of Joker: Folie À Deux, released Tuesday, director Todd Phillips teases what’s to come in the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker. In the new trailer, Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck is finding himself being considered some sort of martyr and endured the “trial of the century.”

Throughout the trailer, Fleck deals with apparent stardom with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn sharing that with Fleck for once she doesn’t feel so alone.

“You can do anything you want. You’re Joker,” she is overheard telling him in the trailer.

Phoenix’s Fleck/Joker is also seen in court yelling at everyone, “I will no longer allow any of you to keep me down!”

Warner Bros. has released the first full-length trailer for Joker: Folie À Deux and it appears Gotham City is all too willing to embrace Arthur Fleck after his chaotic actions in 2019's Joker.

Of course, it's hard to say how much of what we see here is real or simply in the Clown Prince of Crime's head; for example, he's shown dressed in full Joker garb in a courtroom and later hosting the Joker & Harley Show alongside Harley Quinn.

Many fans have wondered how this movie will continue the classic Batman villain's story and while there's still no sign of the Dark Knight, all signs point to this being another fascinating character study.

As for those musical elements, while they're certainly hinted at, Warner Bros. is being careful not to make them too obvious. Hollywood has shied away from marking musicals as, well, musicals in recent years so this isn't overly surprising.

Calling the production of 1989's "Batman" an uphill struggle is an understatement. There's a reason director Tim Burton claims bringing his vision of the Dark Knight to fruition was "torture." Lawyer-turned-producer Michael E. Uslan, who'd acquired the rights to a Batman movie in the '70s, envisioned a darker cinematic take on the character, and Burton was brought on to make it happen. But keeping things on track was a slog from the outset.

Burton had to work hard to convince Uslan that Michael Keaton should play Batman, and that was just the beginning of his struggles. When 1989's "Batman" arrived, not only was it a box office smash, but its dark and subversive tone was unlike anything anyone had seen, especially in the context of a comic book movie.

Often, you'll hear praise heaped on Tim Burton for this magic trick — and rightly so. Without the director's unique artistic vision and offbeat sensibility, "Batman" would not have been the unforgettable expressionist experience it was. You might also hear about the late Anton Furst's production design, which gave vivid life to the nightmare scape of urban decay that was his Gotham City. But there was a lesser-known presence that helped shape the 1989 blockbuster, and without which "Batman" may never have been made.

“Superpowered: The DC Story,” a three-part docuseries about the storied comic book company and the movies and TV shows it inspired, will premiere on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming app on July 20. For those keeping score, that happens to be the very first day of Comic-Con 2023.

With the return of Michael Keaton as Batman in 2023's The Flash, attention has naturally shifted to the days of late '80s Batmania, when Keaton proved skeptics wrong and the Dark Knight became the planet's hottest pop culture property. Directed by Tim Burton, 1989's Batman and 1992's Batman Returns changed the general audience's view of superheroes. Gone was 1960s camp, replaced by a vision that was brooding, violent, and often just weird.

1989's Batman spent almost a decade in development, with everyone from established screenwriter Thomas Mankiewicz to comic book scribe Steve Englehart attempting drafts. While producer Michael E. Uslan always advocated for a serious take on Batman, Hollywood was pushing for something akin to the 1960s Batman television series starring Adam West. At one point, Bill Murray was in talks to star as Batman with Eddie Murphy joining him as Robin.

To tamp down any speculation right away, this post will not be of a lascivious nature, and should not be confused with the rumors — started by Adam West himself in his 1994 autobiography — that he and his "Batman" co-star Frank Gorshin were once kicked out of an orgy because they wouldn't stop acting like their "Batman" characters. Michael Uslan, who was an executive producer in the 2022 noir mystery, announced that filming for The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled to begin on November 23. An October 3, 2025 release date has already been set for the upcoming project, which will see Robert Pattinson once again suiting up as the World's Greatest Detective. The Justice League and Rwby are teaming up, with the DC heroes and and Rooster Teeth characters joining forces for an animated movie.

Justice League x Rwby: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part One arrives on digital, 4K and Blu-ray in the spring. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Vixen are transported to the strange world of Remnant and find themselves turned into teenagers. The Return of Swamp Thing 4K Uhd from Lightyear Entertainment

I don’t think anyone was expecting to see The Return of Swamp Thing on 4K Ultra HD, especially before Wes Craven’s 1982 original, but it’s coming February 7 from Lightyear Entertainment.

Based on the DC Comics character, the 1989 sequel is directed by Jim Wynorski and written by Neil Cuthbert and Grant Morris. Louis Jourdan, Heather Locklear, Sarah Douglas, and Dick Durock star.

The film been newly restored in 4K from the original interpositive with Dolby Vision Hdr and original 2.0 and 5.1 stereo audio. Special features include two audio commentaries, interviews with Wynorski, Cirino, Rosenthal, and producer Michael Uslan, promotional videos, and more.

The Dark Knight is headed to the 1920s in Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham, with A Million Little Things actor David Giuntoli starring as Batman.

The actor leads a voice cast that includes Tati Gabrielle as Kai Li Cain, Christopher Gorham as Oliver Queen, John Dimaggio as James Gordon, Patrick Fabian as Harvey Dent, Brian George as Alfred and Jason Marsden as Dick Grayson and Young Bruce Wayne.

The film is inspired by the 2001 graphic novel by Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey. It is part of DC’s Elseworlds line, which tells stories set outside the DC universe. Sam Liu produces and co-directs, with Christopher Berkeley also co-directing. The film has a script from Jase Ricci.

In Doom That Came to Gotham, explorer Bruce Wayne accidentally unleashes an ancient evil, and returns to Gotham after being away for two decades.

Saudi Arabia is taking vital steps to becoming a leading production force within the Arab region, agreed industry experts speaking at a panel on the topic of international co-production strategies for independent and commercial projects held at the Red Sea 360°.

The cancelation of the Batgirl film has caused many DC Comics fans to once again criticize the state of the franchises' live-action offerings. Unfortunately, DC's animated properties, while more consistently well-received, have also had their fair share of troubling productions, and are no strangers to outright canceling films before the audience ever see them.

From huge sequels to classic storyline adaptations, there are a multitude of animated films that DC Comics fans can only ever dream of seeing.

Fleischer Studios' Batman Films

The first ever animated DC films were the theatrical Superman shorts created by Fleischer Studios during the 1940s, and they are films that have maintained a beloved legacy nearly a century later due to their cultural impact and tremendous animation quality. Unsurprisingly, DC looked to give their other best-known hero, Batman, similar animated treatment and discussed with Fleischer the possibility of adapting the Caped Crusader into animated short films.

In 2005, Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" introduced a darker and moodier version of the iconic superhero than had ever been seen on-screen before, and that angst and violence was further embraced by Matt Reeves' "The Batman" in 2022. For the first time in a while, moviegoers were given raw and brutal street fights between The Dark Knight and Gotham goons, and wanted more.

The overwhelming success of Nolan and Reeves' films proved that Batman fans longed for the tortured and barbaric version of the character after years of being dragged through goofy and childish portrayals of the vigilante in films such as 1966's "Batman," starring Adam West, and 1997's "Batman & Robin," starring George Clooney. Nolan's trilogy often receives credit, rightfully so, for tossing the grit and dirt back into the vigilante's image and tugging the film version of Batman closer to his graphic novel roots. Warner Bros/DC’s The Batman has winged its way past three-quarters of a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, maintaining its spot as the highest-grossing film of the year, globally and domestically. The worldwide cume through Sunday is 751.1M with the Matt Reeves-directed spin on the Caped Crusader counting 386.1M at the international box office and 365M in North America.

The milestone comes as the blockbuster will launch on HBO Max tomorrow (April 18), and also will air on HBO at 8 Pm Et Saturday, April 23.

Matt Reeves’ superhero crime thriller “The Batman” proved to be a massive success both critically, and commercially. The film – written by Reeves and Peter Craig – managed to pull in a whopping 735.2 million at the box office so far, making it the highest grossing film of the year.

But soon, “The Batman” will debut in the homes of HBO Max subscribers. On Monday, it was confirmed that “The Batman” will officially be available to stream starting Monday, April 18. The film will also air on linear HBO on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 Pm Et.

“The Batman” follows the titular hero (Robert Pattinson) during his second year of fighting crime who pursues the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer who targets elite Gotham City citizens. He uncovers corruption that connects to his own family during the investigation, and is forced to make new allies to catch the Riddler and bring the corrupt to justice.

The Batman now has a solid premiere date on HBO Max. The Warner Brothers blockbuster will launch on the streaming service on Monday, April 18, and also will air on HBO on Satuday, April 23 at 8 Pm Et.

It was expected that the Matt Reeves-helmed pic, starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne, would land on HBO Max in late April. A tech glitch on the HBO website last month briefly posted the date of April 19 for the HBO Max launch before it was taken down. All Warner Bros. theatrical releases are slated to hit the streaming service 45 days after their debut in cinemas. The pic has grossed 735 million worldwide, 359 million domestic.

Warner Bros/DC’s The Batman has winged its way past the half a billion dollar mark worldwide to become the fourth highest-grossing studio release of the pandemic era. The global total is $505.8M through Wednesday, and there’s still plenty of gas left in the Batmobile.

The split on the critically praised, Matt Reeves-directed pic is $258.3M domestic and $247.5M through yesterday at the international box office.

Robert Pattinson’s turn in the Batsuit started offshore rollout early in Korea on March 1, and across its first weekend in 74 overseas markets bowed to $124.2M. This repped the top international opening of 2022, WB’s best pandemic-era offshore debut and its best internationally since Joker in October 2019 — as well as the 3rd biggest overseas pandemic-era debut in like-for-like markets behind Spider-Man: No Way Home and No Time To Die.
