Netflix has unveiled a suite of Nordic features and series, partnering on projects with the likes of Working Title, Jo Nesbø, Milad Alami, Dome Karukoski and Sf Studios.

Little Siberia, a Finnish film from Finnish-American director Dome Karukoski, whose credits include Goteborg premiere Tom Of Finland and Jrr Tolkein origin story Tolkein, directs an adaptation of Antti Tuomainen’s novel of the same name. The everyday life of the small village of Hurmevaara is shaken when a meteorite falls through the roof of a car one night.

Netflix announced six new Nordic feature film productions at its Next on Netflix showcase in Stockholm on Monday.

The showcase, which followed similar events in Germany and London last week, gave updates on 26 titles across film and TV, including 12 new titles. For the new Nordic TV line-up, read here.

On the cinema front, new Nordic movies include an adaptation of the Key Series crime whodunnit books about Private detective Julia Stark, by Alex Ahndoril, the pseudonym for husband and wife writers Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril.

Working titled The Key Series, the debut feature-length instalment will see Julia Stark hired by a wealthy family to solve a murder been committed at their estate in the northwest of Sweden.

Banijay company Filmlance is lead producing. Casting and the delivery date has yet to be confirmed.

Sf Studios has boarded “Maybe Baby,” a high-concept Danish comedy about pregnancy and fertility treatments which is directed by Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg (“Loving Adults”).

The movie starts shooting this month with Danish actors Mille Dinesen, Katinka Lærke Petersen, Lars Ranthe and Kasper Dalsgaard. Sf Studios is producing with Marcella Dichmann and will handle Nordic distribution.

“Maybe Baby” follows two couples, Cecilie and Andreas and Liv and Malte, who are both in fertility treatment and discover that the clinic has swapped the fertilized eggs, setting off an avalanche of absurd conflicts. The cast is completed by Sara Boberg, Neel Rønholt, Solbjørg Højfeldt, Laura Bro and Thomas Bo Larsen.

“Fertility treatment is still enormously taboo. As many as 20 of Danes have difficulty getting pregnant, and every ninth child is born through fertility treatment,” said Topsøe-Rothenborg, who recently directed “Loving Adults,” the upcoming Netflix feature film, and “Food Club.”

I rented this film without even bothering to watch the trailer and while it started off extremely promising, around mid-way through I found myself questioning how I felt about the characters and their respective storylines. While it was extremely close to what I wanted it to be, it just didn’t exactly do the trick I was hoping for. International sales outfit LevelK has acquired the uplifting female-led Danish drama “The Food Club,” directed by Barbara Topsøe-Rothenborg (“One-Two-Three Now!”).

LevelK will be handling world sales rights to “The Food Club” outside of the Nordics. Set in the lush countryside, “The Food Club” is headlined by three well-known Scandinavian actresses, Kirsten Olesen (“The Bridge”), Stina Ekblad (“Wallander”) and Kirsten Lehfeldt (“Men & Chicken”).

The film revolves around three longtime girlfriends from elementary school who are coming into their prime and are finding a new lease on life after participating in a cooking course in Italy.

Marie (Olesen) is abandoned by her husband on Christmas Eve, leading her identity as part of a happy family to crumble; while Berling (Ekblad) is the eternal bachelor who lives the sweet life but has a complicated relationship with her daughter; and Vanja (Lehfeldt) lives with the memories of her late husband and has difficulty moving on.
