Medical dramas come with their own set of challenges. The professional jargon can bog down their overall dramatic impact. However, if made well, they can make us resonate with their pathos. The same happens with the 2024 New Zealand medical drama “A Mistake.” Based on Carl Shuker’s book of the same name, the film revolves around a fatal mistake that turns the lives of some medical professionals upside down. The film stars Elizabeth Banks in the lead role as medical surgeon Elizabeth Taylor. Besides her, the central cast includes Richard Crouchley, Simon McBurney, and Mickey Sumner.

"Mistakes may always happen. And I'm not trying to hide anything." Quiver Distr. has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled A Mistake, a medical thriller from filmmaker Christine Jeffs (of Sunshine Cleaning from 2008). This premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival a few months ago, and it's getting a theatrical release in September. A gripping cinematic adaptation of the best-selling novel, A Mistake delves into the perilous aftermath of surgeon Elizabeth Taylor's split-second medical decision, unfolding a thrilling exploration of the fatal ripple effects triggered by a single human error. After a new scheme to publicly report surgeons' performance, a gifted surgeon's life is thrown into disarray as her colleagues begin to close ranks, and even her partner who is a nurse at the hospital turns her back on her. A Mistake explores the consequences of a single error in a heartfelt and emotional way. Christine Jeffs expertly delves into ethics and emotional accountability in the medical field. Elizabeth Banks shines in a challenging role that balances vulnerability and detachment.
Medical dramas can often be sensationalized and dramatic for the sake of stirring up conflict; A Mistake is anything but. Deftly written and directed by Christine Jeffs, who adapted Carl Shukers novel of the same name, the drama sidesteps fictional medical tropes for something that is all too real and emotional. A Mistake is thorough in examining what happens when a medical mistake occurs, and the consequences that come up because of a moment gone wrong. In doing so, Jeffs explores ethics, moral and emotional accountability with a compassionate and nuanced eye.

Warning! Contains spoilers for Sweet Tooth.
James Thacker is not based on a real person, but his character in Sweet Tooth draws inspiration from real-world explorers. The show's metaphors about humanity's actions causing an apocalypse parallel real-world concerns like climate change. While Sweet Tooth is a work of fiction, it reflects the importance of environmental stewardship and draws from real-life landscapes.
James Thacker's story in Sweet Tooth season 3 makes one curious whether he is based on a real person. Although Netflix's Sweet Tooth is quite evidently a work of fiction, it is hard not to notice how the show draws several metaphors to the real world. For instance, in its opening episodes, it accurately captures the chaos and anxieties that dawn upon the world after a deadly pandemic starts killing the masses.
By highlighting how the overarching apocalypse is a consequence of humanity's actions, Sweet Tooth also draws parallels...

“All stories end. Ours ends here.”
Those are the Narrator’s (James Brolin) words as Sweet Tooth’s third and final season kicks off.
The opening minutes of the Season 3 premiere venture all over the globe and jump through time, from Thacker (Joel Tobeck) being confronted on his voyage a century ago to present day, where Gus (Christian Convery), Wendy (Naledi Murray), and Bear (Stefania Lavie Owen) are determined to cross the Rocky Mountains and make it to Alaska. You can watch the first seven minutes of the Season 3 opener of the post-apocalyptic drama series above.
Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) warns the hybrid kids about the many dangers they’ll face — like hostile humans and a harsh winter — but Gus confidently reassures the group that they’re going to find Birdie (Amy Seimetz) and “save the world together.” And you know what? Why do we find murder mysteries so uniquely relaxing? This is one of the age-old questions about human nature, up there with ‘what is consciousness?’ and ‘why do we keep eating mouldy cheese and fish eggs like it’s a good thing?’ Because, despite the grief and blood and mountains of paperwork that a gruesome murder causes, we simply can’t get enough of curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a cosy crime drama to keep us blissfully entertained all the way through to bedtime.
This isn’t a new thing, either: while modern series like Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway are the current champions of cosy crime TV, back in the eighties and nineties classics like Murder She Wrote and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates taught us how it’s done. So whether you’re after the latest in the cosy crime genre or some more nostalgic viewing,...

The team behind Evil Dead: The Game has taken to social media today to tease a new Dlc update that teases more than a new demon on the way.
The game’s official account tweeted, “We’ve been hiding something in the cellar, and it’s not Henrietta.”
No other information has been provided as of yet, but the quick clip gives just enough of a peek at the faceless characters to piece together what we might expect when the Dlc arrives. And it appears to be centered around “Ash vs. Evil Dead.“
The brief tease indicates we might look forward to new skins for playable survivor characters Ash Williams in Ashy Slashy asylum mode (pictured above), Amanda Fisher, and Pablo Simon Bolivar. The remaining two figures bear an uncanny resemblance to Ash’s dad Brock Williams (played by Lee Majors) and season two villain Baal (played by Joel Tobeck...

Let me get this out of the way first: I have to admit that the finale of the first season of Ash vs Evil Dead worried me. There was a certain feel to it that made the show appear to be going in more generic direction. However the second season took away those worries and Ash vs Evil Dead 2×10 ends everything on a surprisingly successful high.
The Second Coming brings a lot of surprises, and does it at such a pace that the audiences could have been lost. Thankfully though the focus is on action, and plenty of it. With Baal (Joel Tobeck) returning, as well as a whole host of characters, it’s not only Henrietta (Ted Raimi) that brings the pain to Ash (Bruce Campbell).

Holy camel toe, it’s season finale time already?! I thought we had two more in the can for some reason. Huh? Oh well.
Last year, my reviews for Ash Vs Evil Dead were more involved, nay, extensive on an episode-by-episode basis than they were this year. That’s because of two things. 1) time constraints and 2) the realization that this show isn’t written with as much texture as I wanted it to be. I still heart Ash Vs Evil Dead and everything, even if it makes some questionable choices here and there from time to time, but Westworld it ain’t. It’s hard to write reams and reams...

Things get more serious this week on Ash vs Evil Dead as the aftershocks of Ash’s therapy have to be dealt with. Thankfully this doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of the puppet that was such a hit last week. This time, we see Kelly have to lend a hand in ending the naughty little puppet’s influence.
Having seemingly given into Baal’s (Joel Tobeck) attempts to get control of him Ash (Bruce Campbell) is in full Ashy Slashy mode. Unluckily for Ruby (Lucy Lawless), Pablo (Ray Santiago), and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) they arrive at the asylum just in time to face him.
I was actually surprised that the episode would take place in the asylum, but it actually makes for a good environment for the chaos that takes place. For the most part, Ash is like a malevolent Jason Voorhees stalking his pray with...

If you are a Buffy fan you’ll remember the episode Normal Again. This episode featured Buffy drifting from two realities, one where she is in a mental asylum, the other the usual Buffy world we expect. This episode was haunting and left us wondering what the character’s reality truly was. Now Ash vs Evil Dead now has a similar episode, but is it a classic like the Buffy episode, or just a trip to puppet filled hell?
Episode seven of Ash vs Evil Dead, Delusion, has Ash (Bruce Campbell) waking up in the asylum with a doctor (as you would expect, Baal actor Joel Tobeck) trying to wake Ash up from his “delusion”. Ash tries to figure out a way to escape the asylum, but his reality begins to break down as he realises that maybe he is the delusional monster he appears to be.

It would take a lot to beat the second episode of Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2, featuring one of the best slapstick scenes of the series. We now have that episode, featuring a family reunion of sorts. This reunion is not only in story terms but also a returning actor from the very first Evil Dead movie.
With Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his group now making their way back to his father’s house, focus is on finding out just what is going on with Pablo (Ray Santiago). With Ruby (Lucy Lawless) doing her thing with Pablo, Ash finds himself having to enter his sister Cheryl’s room.
Fans of the first film will know that Cheryl is played by Ellen Sandweiss, and we also saw her in My Name is Bruce. With her return home to do battle with Ash we get plenty of tree themed jokes, because yes…...

After the events of last episode, it was easy to guess that the next chapter of Ash vs Evil Dead was coming, and this week we finally got to see the Big Bad. We’ve had hints of Baal many times, but in this episode, we finally got to see him.
After the more action packed last episode which took place in a more grander scale, we come back to a more claustrophobic setting of the police station. Closing in the action like this tends to bring out the strength of Ash vs Evil Dead, and in this episode, that is no exception.
With the introduction of Joel Tobeck as Baal we are given a surprisingly low-key coming for what appears to be such a dangerous demon. We soon find just how dangerous he is with some impressive skin shredding gore. We often see homages to other horror movies in...

Looks like Ash and Pablo dropped the Baal. See what I did there?
Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 4 was yet another solid episode. It actually felt more like a season finale didn't it? Especially with the cliffhanger ending of Baal breaking out of hell.
Of course we know that's not the case, since there are still another six episodes of Deadite slashing mayhem to go in season two.
I couldn't help but feel for Ash as he attempted to put his father back together again like some gruesome Humpty Dumpty. Sure, Brock being killed was a shock, but at the very least Ash was able to get some acceptance and closure with his father before his demise.
Well pop, I guess it's time to ride the pale horse, up to the discount hardware store in the sky.

Ash vs. Evil Dead returns to our screens later this year for a brand new season of Evil Dead-killin’ action. You can expect gore and splatter galore when we catch up with Deadite slayer supreme Ash and his two pals Pablo and Kelly living the high life in Jacksonville. Trading in the Necronomicon for gas money to a life-long spring break seemed like the answer to Ash’s prayers, as the season one finale showed the trio bound for sunny Florida in his clapped-out Oldsmobile.
But this is Ash Williams, the man who re-summoned an ancient evil while trying to impress a woman. It’s not long before the Dead come a’knockin’ and we’ve now got a first look at the sophomore season’s new antagonist Baal, played by Sons of Anarchy alum Joel Tobeck.
According to Starz, Baal is released from the Underworld, which was split open during Ruby’s antics,...

Sleeping Beauty Emily Browning Nude Scenes Video. The Sleeping Beauty (2011) Emily Browning nude scenes video from the Julia Leigh directed film showcases what I assume to be all or the majority of the scenes in the film where Emily Browning is in a state of underdress. Sleeping Beauty‘s plot synopsis: “Death-haunted, quietly reckless, Lucy (Emily Browning) is a young university student who takes a job as a Sleeping Beauty. In the Sleeping Beauty Chamber old men seek an erotic experience that requires Lucy’s absolute submission. This unsettling task starts to bleed into Lucy’s daily life and she develops an increasing need to know what happens to her when she is asleep.”

Sleeping Beauty also stars Rachael Blake, Michael Dorman, Mirrah Foulkes, Ewen Leslie, Nathan Page, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Henry Nixon, Joel Tobeck, Chris Haywood, Les Chantery, James Fraser, and Lauren Orrell.

I know we’re all sick and tired of fairy-tales adaptations, but this one is definitely something special. Maybe because Julia Leigh’s Sleeping Beauty actually has nothing to do with that old sleeping blonde that we’re all used to.
So, we’re here to share the first trailer for this movie and of course to have a little chat about Leigh’s upcoming “dark psychosexual drama” that will play In Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Here’s the synopsis part for Sleeping Beauty: “You will go to sleep: you will wake up. It will be as if those hours never existed.” Death-haunted, quietly reckless, Lucy is a young university student who takes a job as a Sleeping Beauty.

I am starting to become a fan of Sucker Punch star Emily Browning. I liked her in Snyder’s film, while it is cool to see her grow as an actress. That is why I was intrigued when I saw this trailer for Sleeping Beauty, which will be at Cannes Film Festival this year. Originally Mia Wasikowska was to be in the film, but Browning replaced her. In the film it seems that she is reprising her ‘Punch role of sorts, hopping through strange surreal worlds and stuff like she did in Snyder’s girl power film. Now in a more contemporary setting, she stars in director Julia Leigh’s dark, dramatic contemporary retelling of the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. The story follows Lucy, a young university student who is pulled into a mysterious and hidden world of beauty and desire. The first trailer has been released featuring the...

#13 – “Eagle vs. Shark” (2007)
Directed by Taika Waititi
At first glance the Antipodean comedy “Eagle vs. Shark” appears very much cut from the same comedic cloth as Jared Hess’ 2004 ode to geekdom “Napoleon Dynamite” with its socially inept lead characters, quirky soundtrack and offbeat comic sensibilities. On closer inspection, however, Taika Waititi’s debut feature reveals itself to be something altogether different; a charming romantic comedy fuelled by a witty script, a great cast, a gorgeous soundtrack and a great deal of heart.
Fans of cult TV series “Flight of the Conchords” will already recognize lead actor Jemaine Clement who, as Jarrod, most closely resembles the inimitable Mr. Dynamite with his underdeveloped social skills, lack of sexual expertise and penchant for videogames, kung fu and dressing up as his favourite animal (“I almost came as a shark actually, but then I...

Australian composer (Alex Proyas' Garage Days) and short film filmmaker Andrew Lancaster makes his feature directorial debut with Accidents Happen, an indie dramedy that premiered at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. There are dysfunctional families... and then there are the Conways. After a family tragedy, 15-year-old Billy Conway (Harrison Gilbertson) has become the de facto glue between his bitter mom (Geena Davis), distant brother (Harry Cook), and stoic dad (Joel Tobeck). But when Billy starts to act out, everything changes for him and his family. Based loosely on Brian Carbee's autobiographical book and one-man theater production, the film is set in 1980's New England, but was shot in Sydney. The film was named by New York Post as one of the five films to look out for at Tribeca, and the Examiner called it "a promising feature debut (by director Andrew Lancaster and writer Brian Carbee) that isn’t...
