The CSI Franchise Peaked 15 Years Ago With A Three-Part Episode That Made Every Fan's Wish Come True

Throughout the CSI franchise's 39 seasons and 838 episodes, there have been plenty of memorable moments, but the one that stands out the most happens over the course of three episodes. The CSI franchise debuted in October 2000 when CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered, and it quickly became a hit. Millions of people watched the CSI show, inspiring CBS to expand its universe. Its success resulted in the network ordering the first spinoff, CSI: Miami, in 2002, and the second one, CSI: NY, in 2004. CSI was a cultural phenomenon that forever changed the course of TV (in numerous respects).
As of the writing of this article, the CSI franchise has no current shows airing, as the latest, CSI: Vegas, ended with its season 3 finale in May 2024.
Every series in the franchise revolved around a CSI team, consisting of forensic scientists, detectives, and medical examiners who work together to solve murders. However, as one could tell by their titles,...

With the Battlestar Galactica reboot's mission being aborted long before its planned launch, one of the show's Og stars has mixed feelings about the news. Katee Sackhoff insists the military sci-fi series can still be revived, but the version she starred in "ended beautifully."
Speaking with Collider, Sackhoff believes the first reboot of Battlestar Galactica, airing between 2004 and 2009, had more narratives to explore. However, she remains content with how the most recent version of the show concluded. "I am of two minds; on one hand, I thought that in the story we told, there potentially was more there, but at the same time, I thought that it ended beautifully," Sackhoff said.

Apple TV+ isn’t done exploring the depths of space.
The streamer has renewed its drama series For All Mankind for Season 5. Additionally, Apple TV+ has given the green light to a spinoff series titled Star City, also from creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi.
Apple is billing Star City is “a propulsive paranoid thriller” which will explore a key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, it will explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.

In 1966, Gene Roddenberry and his co-creators gave the world Star Trek, an adventure series that imagined humanity overcoming its racist and sexist and class divisions, which inaugurated a new age of exploration. Corny? Sure. Imperfect? Of course. But that fundamental optimism remains a key aspect of Star Trek, presenting a challenge to those future creators tasked with keeping the franchise alive beyond the years of its birth.
That doesn’t mean the optimism can’t be challenged or re-contextualized. Indeed, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine did exactly that, and many put that series at the top of their franchise rankings. But Deep Space Nine also introduced Section 31, a black ops organization within Starfleet and the darkest alternative to Star Trek optimism this side of the Terran Empire.
Sadly, later Trek creators have jumped onto the Section 31 concept, resulting in darker, much more pessimistic (and paranoid) stories that forget the best...

Dispatches From The Picket Lines: Scribes Celebrate New Deal While Showing Solidarity With SAG-AFTRA

This is Day 76 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The morning after the WGA strike was called to an end, the SAG-AFTRA picket lines thinned out at Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney, with significantly fewer stars, however, a handful of scribes continued to turnout for their thespian brethren.
Elated about the WGA strike’s end, For All Mankind writer Bradley Thompson, beamed at the Disney gates, “About freakin’ time!”
With a new scribe deal that contains big leaps in AI guardrails, residuals and data transparency for writers, Station 19 and Cruel Summer co-ep Anupam Nigham told Deadline, “It feels good that we got them to come up from $86M to $233M [annually] over three years.”
With movement made on the writers room minimum staffing front, the new deal will see that by Dec. 1, development rooms, otherwise known as pre-greenlight rooms, and regular writers rooms for television and Hbsvod series will have requirements regarding the...

Are you a science nerd who's become disheartened by our collective inability as a species to work together towards a common goal, to put ego and wealth and politics aside, and simply explore the cosmos for the betterment of our species? If you haven't been following along already, allow me to point you in the direction of "For All Mankind." I should clarify, this isn't the show to watch if you're looking for an escape from all the cynicism we've been seeing in our news headlines for the better part of the 21st Century. Rather, the Apple TV+ series shines a direct light on all our missteps through an alternate-history lens -- one in which the Russians won the space race by landing a man on the moon back in the 1960s, kicking off an even more intense game of one-upmanship between the world's superpowers locked in an eternal Cold War.

“For All Mankind,” Apple TV+’s popular alternative-history space drama series, was renewed Friday for a fourth season, it was revealed at Comic-Con. The news comes a little over a month after Season 3’s premiere.
“Since 1969, #ForAllMankind has journeyed from Earth to the Moon to Mars. The adventure will continue on Apple TV+,” the streamer’s Twitter account wrote.
In one giant leap for the series, “For All Mankind” has also toppled its streaming counterpart “Ted Lasso” as Apple TV+’s most in-demand show. Co-created by “Outlander’s” Ronald D. Moore as well as Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, “For All Mankind” imagines a world where the global space race never ended, and the Soviets had placed the first human on the moon instead. Season 3 raced ahead in time to the early ’90s, with NASA, the Ussr and an unexpected new player within the private sector setting their sights on sending astronauts to Mars.

Many space-obsessed Americans have enjoyed the recent resurgence in space travel, with private companies filling the void left by America’s space program. But for viewers of “For All Mankind,” it’s as if those programs never went away.
The Apple TV+ drama is one of the most ambitious shows on the streaming service, telling an alternative history of a Space Race that never ends. In the world of the show, the Ussr beat the United States in the race to land a man on the moon, but the two countries continue to compete with each other in their quests to explore outer space. And in Season 3, which dropped its first trailer today, the stakes are higher than ever: landing on Mars.
Despite the series’ Cold War premise, the show is notable for its optimistic vision of humans flourishing through space exploration. The show’s creative team has been adamant...

“For all Mankind” returns for its third season of 10 episodes on Apple TV+ on June 10, which sees NASA scrambling to get its astronauts to Mars before the Russians and the West Germans in the trailer shared by Apple TV+ on Monday.
The previous two seasons took us from 1969’s historic moon landing to the late ’80s. The drama is now set in the early ’90s, with a TV news desk using a background of the still-standing World Trade Center towers to anchor us firmly in the past.
In the trailer — set to Soundgarden’s 1994 grunge hit “Black Hole Sun” — Joel Kinnaman’s character Edward Baldwin is concerned about the survival of his crew and there are doubts whether they can be supplied with adequate water.
We also meet new character Dev Ayesa ( Edi Gathegi), an advocate for private citizens in space, just a few decades before the 21st century billionaire space race.

“For All Mankind” will return for its third season on June 10, Apple TV Plus announced Monday.
Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, the critically-acclaimed science fiction drama imagines an alternate history where Russia beat the United States in putting a man on the moon first. As a result of this historical divergence, the space race between the two countries never ends, leading to a world where both nations have advanced moon colonies staffed 24/7 and the Cold War has led to much quicker technological advances. The series focuses on the exploits of the astronauts and staff of NASA in this alternate universe, delving into both their professional and personal lives.
The first two seasons of “For All Mankind” covered a span of almost two decades, starting in 1969 and ending in the late ’80s. Season 3 again jumps ahead into the early ’90s, as the space race expands to the exploration of Mars.
