Speaking with Collider, Sackhoff believes the first reboot of Battlestar Galactica, airing between 2004 and 2009, had more narratives to explore. Mireille Enos has joined the cast of “For All Mankind” Season 5 at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.

Enos will appear in the space race historical fiction drama in a series regular role as Celia Boyd, described as “a member of the Peacekeeper Security Force on Mars.”

The role reunites Enos with “For All Mankind” star Joel Kinnaman. The two previously starred opposite one another in the AMC/Netflix series “The Killing,” for which Enos was nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe for best lead actress in a drama. Her other TV credits include “Lucky Hank” at AMC, “Hanna” at Amazon Prime Video (which also starred Kinnaman), “Big Love” at HBO, and “The Catch” at ABC. In film, Enos has starred in features such as “Miranda’s Victim,” “World War Z,” and “The Lie.”

Apple is doubling down on For All Mankind.

The iPhone maker and streamer has handed out a fifth season renewal for Ron Moore’s For All Mankind and a straight-to-series order for Star City, a spinoff following the Soviet space race.

As with the flagship series, Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi co-created Star City, with the latter duo set to showrun both programs for producer Sony Pictures Television.

“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind,” said executive producers Wolpert and Nedivi in a statement announcing the news Wednesday. “The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race. “For All Mankind” has been renewed for Season 5 at Apple TV+. In addition, Variety has learned the streamer has ordered a spinoff series focusing on the Soviet space program.

The spinoff is currently titled “Star City” and hails from “For All Mankind” creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi. Nedivi and Wolpert will serve as showrunners. The show will return to the beginning of “For All Mankind’s” alternative timeline, in which the Soviets are the first to reach the moon. But the show will then “explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward,” per the official logline.

Apple TV+ isn’t done exploring the depths of space.

The streamer has renewed its drama series For All Mankind for Season 5. Additionally, Apple TV+ has given the green light to a spinoff series titled Star City, also from creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi.

Apple is billing Star City is “a propulsive paranoid thriller” which will explore a key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, it will explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.

“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind,” Wolpert and Nedivi said in a statement.

In 1966, Gene Roddenberry and his co-creators gave the world Star Trek, an adventure series that imagined humanity overcoming its racist and sexist and class divisions, which inaugurated a new age of exploration. Corny? Sure. Imperfect? Of course. But that fundamental optimism remains a key aspect of Star Trek, presenting a challenge to those future creators tasked with keeping the franchise alive beyond the years of its birth.

That doesn’t mean the optimism can’t be challenged or re-contextualized. Indeed, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine did exactly that, and many put that series at the top of their franchise rankings. But Deep Space Nine also introduced Section 31, a black ops organization within Starfleet and the darkest alternative to Star Trek optimism this side of the Terran Empire.

Cbr's sneak peek at Episode 407 reveals Dev Ayesa (Edi Gathegi) holding a meeting that's tense from the start, as he defends his part in trying ending their strike. The streamer announced today a season four renewal for For All Mankind, the hit critically acclaimed space drama series from Golden Globe nominee and Emmy Award-winner Ronald D. Moore and Emmy Award nominees Ben Nedivi & Matt Wolpert.

The series is set to begin production on the new season of the alternate reality series next month.

The news was announced during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring series stars Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Sonya Walger, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Casey Johnson, Coral Peña, Wrenn Schmidt, and Edi Gathegi, along with executive producers Moore, Nedivi, Wolpert, and Maril Davis.

Described by critics as "one of the best shows currently on TV," For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended.
