The road to turning Husk into a longer feature was not without its bumps. While Brett Simmons‘ 2005 short film was met with favorable responses at Sundance, there were several upsets before After Dark Films finally entered the picture. The one positive about the years of delays was Simmons then having time to rewrite the screenplay. Now more to the filmmaker’s liking, the revision delved into those intentionally unexplored parts of the short.
The featurette satisfies as a standalone experience, but it also serves as the proper base product for a more complex narrative. After all, there are enough unanswered questions about Simmons’ compact chiller to warrant an extended visit. The impulse to decry overexplaining in the genre would be in vain here, considering that the fuller Husk still maintains a modest sense of mystery once everything is said and done.

Actor Van Hansis is set to join the cast of General Hospital to take over the role of Lucas Jones. The actor has talked about his transition to the series, including how similar he feels Jones is to another soap character he’s played. The role also allowed Hansis to reunite with a former castmate from a previous soap.
Quite A Few Actors Have Played The Role Over The Years
Starting in early October, Hansis will take on the role of Lucas Jones. The character is the son of Julian Jerome and Cheryl Stansbury and was adopted by Dr. Tony Jones and Bobbie Spencer.
Since his introduction in 1989, the character has been played by a variety of actors, starting with his on-screen birth. Originally played by multiple child actors, some notable actors to play him since he had been aged up include C.J. Thomason, Ryan Carnes, Ben Hogestyn, and Matt Trudeau.

Harper's Island was canceled after one season, but its unique approach to a slasher series still resonates 15 years later. The series thrived on suspense and red herrings, boasting a large cast of suspects and engaging plot twists. Despite being ahead of its time, Harper's Island could have been a massive hit with better marketing and a different network placement.
CBS canceled beloved slasher series Harper's Island after a single season, but it still holds a special place in my heart 15 years later because it deserves a resurrection. Slasher series rarely work because sustaining viewer interest week-to-week is tough when answers aren't forthcoming. A slasher series needs convincing kills and plots that can be told over a longer arc and offer insight into the characters and their machinations. This particular series excelled because it had 25 suspects from the get-go, meaning there was no shortage of drama.

The Monkey’s Paw (2013)
Written by: W.W. Jacobs (short novel), Macon Blair (screenplay)
Directed by: Brett Simmons
Cast: C.J. Thomason (Jake), Stephen Lang (Tony Cobb), Daniel Hugh Kelly (Gillespie), Michelle Pierce (Olivia), Corbin Bleu (Catfish), Charles S. Dutton (Detective Margolis), James Minor III (Cory Cobb), Andy Favreau (Kevin)
Anyone that is familiar with the short story “The Monkey’s Paw” knows where the premise of this flick from Chiller Films is headed. It’s a pretty respectable premise though. Horror has always had a cautionary tale basis at its deepest foundations, and this is a timeless morality story that has been given a contemporary spin. Not the first time it’s been done for sure, but if it’s done well, I can definitely roll with it. This version takes place in New Orleans, which happens to be one of my favorite locales for a horror film anyway,...

There is no government anymore, Brad!
In the right-wing mania, there lies a deep and abiding fear of the end of days. It may be religious, semi-religious, or xenophobic, but somebody somewhere will cause something horrible to happen and nobody is going to be ready for it. Except me! Aftermath (2012) a fictional enabler of this vague and violent fear, plays out the World War II scenario of nuclear warfare in north Texas. The leader, a med student (C.J. Thomason), seems preternaturally aware of their needs and the details of nuclear fallout. Also, the luckiest person in the world, he picks up a diesel truck, two pretty girls, and tons of supplies in very short order. The real danger, as all paranoiacs know, is humanity itself. People loot, rape, and kill when society's formal structures disintegrate. While the doctor explicitly tells one character that this isn't a zombie movie, I'm afraid that diagnosis was premature.

Director: Peter Engert. Writer: Christian McDonald. Cast: Edward Furlong, Monica Keena, Andre Royo, Bo Mitchell, Luis Da Silva Jr. and C.J. Thomason. Aftermath is a post-apocalyptic thriller from distributors Rlj Entertainment and relative newcomer Peter Engert. Engert's third feature takes place after a nuclear strike, which leaves several survivors exposed to radiation. The next hour or so consists of the survivors succumbing to radiation sickness. Light and fun - this film is not. Instead, the film focuses on drama and the dire situation in which the characters find themselves. The protagonist Hunter, played with lots of starch by C.J. Thomason, is a man without a past. It is only a matter of time before the survivors must face the unpredictable outcomes of a nuclear strike, including raging, mutated farmers. Aftermath is a very dreary film, which will leave many viewers haunted and wondering why. The film's story begins with Hunter.

Can You Survive The Emotional Fallout?
Hi there, Creeps! Recently I was asked to review a film called Aftermath, and I have to admit, I was not prepared for what this film contained. Ya see, when I read the description of the film, my head filled with images of an action-packed, blood spattered gorefest replete with slavering zombie-like antagonists mowin’ down hordes of terrified war-ravaged survivors like so much human wheat.
I’m going to lay it right on you cats: this movie is primarily a drama. A character-driven, dialogue-infused drama. So be forewarned, as your mileage may vary.

I know absolutely nothing about this movie, beyond the fact that it features Ed Furlong, and is supposedly some kind of post-apocalyptic horror film. I do love both Ed Furlong, and post-apocalyptic films, but neither of them have been very good to me in return as of late. I know most people hate the Night of the Demons remake, but I love it, and I love Furlong’s sleazy performance in that movie. Hopefully he brings what he considers to be his A-Game to this role, and there will be that for me to enjoy at the very least. Cj Thomason stars alongside Monica Keena and Edward Furlong in the new survival horror film Aftermath. Recently Thomason sat down with Dread Central to discuss his feelings about the movie.
"Aftermath is people surviving, doing everything they can to survive a nuclear fallout," Thomason said. "It's like it would probably happen in real life. They don't know why it's happening. They don't know who attacked."
He added, "They don't know the extent of the attack, and when it comes down to it, the movie is literally just focused on them surviving because that's where we would be. We're not going to have our iPhones updating us. We're not going to have our news media informing us... If you're lucky enough to be around a ham radio, you'll probably know a little bit of information. But it's a claustrophobic look at the survival of nuclear war."

The nuclear apocalypse has long been a fascination and many a movie have dealt with the lead up or the aftermath of the event. In the case of Hungarian director Peter Engert's movie, Aftermath deals with the events immediately after a number of bombs go off in the Us. We follow a group of individuals who are thrown together by chance as they try to survive the first month post nuclear attack in a cramped cellar. The one room thriller is effective and includes a solid performance from relative new comer C.J. Thomason alongside veterans Edward Furlong and Andre Royo.
I recently had a chance to speak with Engert and he spoke candidly about the troubled production, working with the Furlong and his future project.

The apocalypse is no fun for anyone, but the dreariest possible scenario probably entails being stuck in a house without a functioning toilet and with nine of the dullest people left alive.
That's the situation Peter Engert strands us in with the relentlessly grim and dull Aftermath, an ultra-gloomy variant of Gilligan's Island, which traps its central nonet in a rural cabin. The professor figure keeping them alive (thus prolonging their misery) is young doctor Hunter (C.J. Thomason), who barters his medical expertise for shelter for himself and three hitchhikers he rescues from nuclear explosions. With so many different apocalyptic interpretations floating around Hollywood these days, it’s always interesting to realize that the most underutilized Earth-destroying plot line remains one of the most realistic – nuclear fallout. Zombies hordes strike fear, Kaiju’s threaten massive devastation, aliens fight to control our brains, but a massive-scale nuclear war would leave entire cities vaporized, cause uncountable casualties, and create unlivable conditions for those “lucky” enough to survive. Even scarier is that although Aftermath is just a movie depicting what could happen if a governmental paranoia caused all-out nuclear war, these same fears have been around since Cold War era Russia – and with threatening terrorists, we haven’t escaped fears of life imitating art.
Radiation burns, illness, suffering – sometimes directors don’t need monsters and murderers as far as global horror is concerned.
The beginnings of this apocalyptic wasteland are a bit muddled, but after hearing frantic radio...

It is amazing how many post-apocalyptic films that are coming out nowadays. The latest is titled Aftermath (formerly Remnants) and this title is from director Peter Engert. Aftermath was completed in 2012 and Image Entertainment will distribute this title July 18th, 2014, through video-on-demand. The film stars Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason), Andre Royo ("The Wire"), Christine Kelly (Samuel Bleak), and C.J. Thomason (Harper’s Island). Fans of the genre can preview the film's release with a trailer here. The story for Aftermath is a bleak one. A nuclear strike hits America and several survivors take refuge underground. These strangers find their refuge unsuitable as radiation leaks into their cellar. Radiation sickness effects many of the characters and then, events get worse. Others, forced to reside on the surface, are looking for supplies and shelter. They attempt to take over the cellar and these strangers will have to band together, in order to survive.

I love the end of the world movies. Really, can’t get enough of it. So Peter Engert’s “Aftermath” sounds like it’s right up my alley. Of course, whether the execution is worthy of my excitement remains to be seen, but hey, it’s got Edward Furlong from “Terminator: Judgement Day” fame, along with Monica Keena, so that’s not too bad. Check out the poster and some new images from “Aftermath.” No trailer yet, but that should be forthcoming, we suspect. What's the only thing worse than the world coming to an end? Zombies walking the Earth in its wake, of course. In Aftermath it's Edward Furlong and Freddy vs. Jason's Monica Keena that are tasked with beating off hordes of the undead.
Or fighting off, I should say. Beating off sounds... oh, never mind.

Directed by Peter Engert, the film also stars Andre Royo and C.J. Thomason.
Synopsis
When the devastating horror of a nuclear apocalypse becomes a reality, nine strangers find themselves holed up together in a farmhouse cellar. These would-be survivors are faced with dwindling supplies, radioactive air, and the greatest threat of all: the hordes of zombie-like refugees who want in.

Unfortunately, I live in one of those areas of the United States that is slow to pick up channels like Chiller, FearNet and even Robert Rodriguez’s new network El Rey. One carrier might carry the network or maybe every carrier except for mine. Regardless, Scream Factory – the best in the business in genre home entertainment – is eliminating the obstacle of seeing Chiller’s original content by bringing last year’s The Monkey’s Paw to Blu-Ray & DVD. The film is directed by Brett Simmons (Husk) and has a screenplay by Macon Blair (who is amazing in Blue Ruin but you’ve seen his acting abilities in Murder Party and, more recently, Hellbenders) based off of W.W. Jacobs’ original short story. We have the full details on when you can get your paws on The Monkey’s Paw.

Marvel made a big announcement about the future of Mike Peterson (J. August Richards) on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. It’s a big spoiler, so I’ll let you decide if you’ll click on the link. I love the concept, if not the specifics.
Access Hollywood talked with Finn Jones about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Sadly, he says, “There’s not enough hot gay sex for Loras this season.” I’m going to sit in a corner where I will think about Daenerys dispensing justice with her dragons and Lady Olenna dropping wit bombs until I’m excited about the new season.
Come on, HBO, who is going to fill Lafayette’s shoes once True Blood ends?
Adrianne Palicki will be appearing in a story arc on NBC’s upcoming dramedy About a Boy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The newest home production from horror-themed cable channel Chiller is an adaption of W.W. Jacob’s classic horror tale The Monkey’s Paw. Directed by Brett Simmons (Husk) and written by Macon Blair, Paw tells the story of Jake (Cj Thomason), who comes upon the titular talisman that will grant him three wishes. The similarities between the short story end there, though, as Jake inadvertently reanimates his dead boss Tony (Stephen Lang). Jake must then decide what to use his third wish for all the while dealing with the manipulative Tony, who tries to take the wish for his own purposes. Also stars Charles S. Dutton, Corbin Bleu (really?!?) and Michelle Pierce.

Tomorrow, Remnants (trailer) will make its world debut at the Film4 Frightfest in UK.
Directed by Peter Engert, this somber reflection of a post-apocalyptic America stars C.J. Thomason, Monica Keena, Edward Furlong and Andre Royo.
Shock had the pleasure of reconnecting with Thomason recently to discuss his time on the film. We first met this actor a few years back at the premiere of Brett Simmons' Husk, in which Thomason plays a man who must contend with a supernatural force at a farmhouse (you may have also spotted him in the "body count" TV series Harper's Island).
In Remnants, he plays Hunter, a young doctor who survives a nuclear attack and, with other survivors, holes up in a basement to ride things out. But waiting for help to arrive proves difficult as hunger and radiation sickness begin to seep in.

Thomason Running time: 83 minutes – Rated R A group of friends traveling on a private road near a massive cornfield get forced off the road by a murder of suicidal crows. They look for help at the only farmhouse in the area where they discover some supernatural force had caused them to be there. A group of friends are on their way to a lake house vacation spot when their car crashes. Stranded, they spot a lone house sitting in the middle of Nowheres Cornfield USA. It’s moody and dangerous looking and creepy as all get-out. So of course two of the friends, Brian (Wes Chatham) and Scott (Devon Graye) head off to find help, leaving behind Chris (C.J. Thomason) and Natalie (Tammin Sursok), Brian’s slightly loopy girlfriend. There is a fifth member of the group, Johnny (Ben Easter), who has gone missing in the aftermath of the accident. Soon, something evil inside the cornfields strikes, cutting the number of vacationers in half. Yeah, kinda saw that coming, dincha? Have faith, though, it actually gets better. “Husk” is another 2011 entry in the After Dark Originals line of films, including the previously reviewed “Prowl”. It’s another surprisingly strong effort, particularly given the...

It doesn't matter if you're a black swan or a white swan; we're sure you're going to want to bring home the dementedness that is Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning performance in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.
The film also stars Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder. If you live in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco or Chicago, you can participate in the Black Swan Experience on April 2nd.
Since Scream 4 is coming out in theaters shortly, it is only appropriate that the Scream trilogy is being re-released in glorious Blu-ray. Bring home the franchise created by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson that gave the horror genre a booster shot back in the mid 1990s. A trio from the original cast -- Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette -- will be gracing the big screens with a whole new cast soon enough.
