John Krasinski will return to the Off Broadway stage this May in Angry Alan, Penelope Skinner’s critically acclaimed dark comedy that premiered at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Directing will be Sam Gold.

The one-man play, which begins a strictly limited engagement on May 23 with an official opening on Wednesday, June 11, will be the inaugural production of Studio Seaview, the Off Broadway venue owned and operated by the Seaview production company. In recent years, Seaview has become one of the premiere producers of New York stage productions, with recent shows including Romeo + Juliet, Stereophonic and the current, record-setting Good Night, And Good Luck starring George Clooney.

Krasinski most recently appeared Off Broadway in the 2016 Public Theater production of Sarah Burgess’ play Dry Powder, starring opposite Claire Danes.

A few notable names that you might have heard of this award season screened their earlier work at the fest, including Sean Baker (Anora), Justin Simien (Hollywood Black), Ali Abbasi (The Apprentice), and Jon M Chu (Wicked).

These four filmmakers took full advantage of everything the festival had to offer and are now able to make those daring projects that have earned them all that hardware. If we look at the films that they brought to the festival, we might learn a little something about what makes these filmmakers tick, and how themes they explored way back when are still relevant to the directors today.

Kieran Culkin did not miss his chance Tuesday night to reunite with his former “Succession” co-star Sarah Snook when the two actors were captured in an adorable TikTok video embracing outside the Music Box Theatre in New York City.

Snook made her Broadway debut Monday in the first public preview of “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” having previously headlined the show’s West End run in 2024 in London. She took home the coveted Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in April last year for her work in the production, which requires her to play a total of 26 roles throughout its runtime.

Prime Video is to stream Seasons 1-7 of President Donald Trump’s competition show The Apprentice.

Each season of the show, which launched 20 years ago on NBC and popularized the phrase “You’re fired!”, will roll out weekly, with Season 1 launching today. Seasons will roll out until April 27.

The Apprentice, which comes from Emmy winner Mark Burnett and MGM Alternative, which is part of Amazon MGM Studios, will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in the U.S. only.

The program is considered a launch pad for Trump’s media personality in the States, starting back in January 2004 and averaging 20 million viewers in Season 1, which took 28 million for its finale. The film, which follows Donald Trump’s rise through the real estate industry in the ’80s with the guidance of lawyer Roy Cohn, earned a fair amount of attention this awards season despite its trouble finding mainstream distributors. It was subsequently nominated for two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, three BAFTAs, and three Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Director.

His latest feature, which centers on the 1980s rise of Trump, earned a best actor nomination and a Golden Globe nom for Sebastian Stan’s work as young Trump, and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Jeremy Strong’s performance as Trump mentor Roy Cohn.

The film earned strong reviews after debuting at Cannes last May, and the Iranian-born Abbasi landed an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his work on the project.

The Boys from Brazil is a thriller novel by Ira Levin, published in 1976. It tells the story of Yakov Liebermann, a Nazi hunter who uncovers a shocking plan. Dr. Josef Mengele, a Nazi war criminal, has created clones of Adolf Hitler and placed them with families to recreate Hitler’s childhood. Liebermann must stop the plan before history repeats itself.

In 1978, The Boys from Brazil was made into a movie. It was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and written by Ira Levin and Heywood Gould. The film starred Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, and James Mason. It was popular and got three Academy Award nominations.

Now, Netflix wants to remake the movie into a show. We don’t know much about the project but Jeremy Strong was already confirmed to be part of the remake back in February of this year.

The filmmaker is turning his creativity towards the crime genre next, having scripted Paper Tiger, his next directorial outing. Furthermore, he’s bringing two actors from Armageddon Time into his next project, with Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong set to star in the new movie.

The Office star Steve Carell has officially joined the cast of Jesse Armstrong's upcoming movie for HBO, starring alongside an ensemble cast filled with heavy hitters.

Per Variety, Carell will star alongside Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City), Ramy Youssef (Poor Things) and Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night) in Armstrong's untitled film for HBO, which is expected to begin filming this month in Utah. Armstrong served as executive producer and showrunner of HBO's Emmy-winning juggernaut Succession, which concluded its run back in 2023. The untitled film follows " a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis." His upcoming untitled film for HBO serves as his feature directorial debut.

Kickstarter, the crowdfunding platform designed to support creative endeavors, has named Taylor K. Shaw head of film outreach as the company steps up efforts to court industry professionals to use its service to finance production and related expenses.

Shaw is an independent producer and entrepreneur who founded animation firm Bwa Studios, which has produced content and marketing materials for HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Mattel and Sony Music, among others. Following his tour de force on HBO as the heir apparent to CEO of Waystar Royco in Succession, Strong quickly announced himself as a perennial film actor with his equally triumphant and mesmerizing performance in The Apprentice. While the film was treated as a hot-buttoned, inflammatory look at Donald Trump, released about a month before he was elected President of the United States, it was Strong's performance as Roy Cohn that stole the show. Two years earlier, Strong also dabbled in commentary on the Trump family in Armageddon Time, an overlooked coming-of-age drama that looks at the family more abstractly, but James Gray's film is just as biting.

Some people truly know how to give us a memorable moment. And a stage like that at the 2025 Oscars is certainly the place to give or — or at least attempt to give it. For Kieran Culkin that means heading to Broadway for the most recent staging of Glengarry Glen Ross, while this summer is likely occupied with filming on the third Dune movie for Timothee Chalamet. Conan O'Brien hosted this year's and his performance of "I Won't Waste Time" was accompanied by surprise appearances from Dune: Part Two's Sandworm and Deadpool & Wolverine's Dancepool.

We don't know who was in the suit, though the Merc with the Mouth - who O'Brien reminded us wasn't among the nominees - pulled off some familiar Backstreet Boys-inspired dance moves before making his exit.

Ryan Reynolds initially embarked on a pretty robust "FYC" campaign for Deadpool & Wolverine, though it quickly lost momentum. The movie, which was a box office hit, wasn't exactly considered a critical darling with 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Well, the Oscars has happened again, and perhaps now we can all get back to normal for a while.

This year’s statuette season was interesting enough given that there was no clear frontrunner like last year, when Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominated the awards race from start to finish. Still, set against the backdrop of the the hugely destructive Californian wildfires, it still all seemed a little superfluous at times. Meanwhile, The Brutalist director Brady Corbet provided an insight into the state of the non-blockbuster film business when he revealed that not being paid for being on a months-long awards trail meant he was living hand to mouth.

Oscars 2025: The 97th Academy Award finally took place and was filled with magical moments and loads of emotions. However, it was a sad night for Demi Moore fans, as she did not win the Best Actress trophy despite bagging all the major awards; the Academy Award evaded her. The 2025 Oscars turned out to be a golden night for Anora. The critically acclaimed indie took home five Oscars including Best Director, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay (all Sean Baker), Best Actress (Mikey Madison), and Best Picture. Anora won in every category it was nominated in except Best Supporting Actor (Yura Borisov) which went to Kieran Culkin as expected.

Emilia Pérez went into Hollywood’s Big Night with 13 nominations, winning in just two: Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldana) and Best Original Song. The Brutalist was recognized with three Oscars after earning 10 nominations. Wicked also earned 10 nominations and finished the night with two wins. And Dune: Part Two won the Achievement in Sound and Visual Effects Oscars out of its five nominations.

Trends quickly emerged on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, from pastel hues, such as the Dior gowns worn by Mikey Madison and Monica Barbaro, to high-drama sculptural gowns, notably the pink satin and tulle gown designed for Ariana Grande by Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry. Hollywood’s biggest night has come to an end, and as usual, the Academy Awards delivered plenty of memorable moments.

But as much as we loved the James Bond tribute and the hilarious monologue from first-time host Conan O’Brien, the winners and their acceptance speeches were the focus of the night.

Several deserving stars took home their very first Oscars, including Mikey Madison, who headlined the biggest winner of the night, the audacious sex work dramedy Anora.

The indie flick took home five awards, and director Sean Baker took the stage for a number of gracious speeches. But he and Mikey weren’t the only victors at the 97th Oscars.

After months of hype, campaigning, predictions, pivots, and controversies large and small, the 2025 Oscars finally arrived to provide clarity in what seemed to be the most wide-open awards season in years.

But in the end it was all Anora. Sean Baker's film, about a Brooklyn sex worker who falls for the slacker son of a Russian oligarch, won five Oscars, including Best Picture, Mikey Madison for Best Actress (over presumptive favorite The Substance's Demi Moore), Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing. Baker accounted for four of those wins — picture, director, original screenplay, and editing — making history in the process.

Two-time Holocaust survivor Adrien Brody became a two-time Oscar winner, taking Best Actor for his turn as a Hungarian immigrant in The Brutalist. Brody used his acceptance speech to speak out against the charged political climate and attacks on underrepresented communities: "Let's fight for what's right... let's keep loving one another.

Whether it was Zoe Saldaña calling out her husband’s beautiful hair during her acceptance speech or June Squibb claiming that she’s really Bill Skarsgård in drag, the 97th Oscars on Sunday were chock-full of good, bag and fugly moments.

So Good: Oscar gave a collective hug to fire victims by opening the show with a chill-inducing ode to our beloved L.A. with iconic moments from Rocky III, La La Land, Grand Canyon, La Bamba and The Big Lebowski, followed with gorgeous performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

So bad it was good: It felt a little strange to transition out of such a sentimental opener to the image of “four-time Oscar viewer” Conan O’Brien crawling out of Demi Moore’s corpse.
