Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “If You Could Read My Mind,” the Season 3 finale of Hallmark’s “The Way Home,” which streams on Hallmark+ and Peacock.
“The Way Home” kicked off its third season with the abandonment of a mysterious baby, and fans have waited all season to get more information about the enigmatic scene. By the end of the Season 3 finale, we know one key thing about the baby: who he was. It turned out that the cooing infant was Elliot (played by Evan Williams as an adult) as a baby. He was left by the pond by his time-traveling mother, who jumped into the frigid waters with someone who must be a male Landry, but whose face we never see.
Why they left Elliot by the pond and what connected Elliot’s mother to the as-of-yet unidentified Landry are questions to be explored in “The Way Home...

The appeal of sci-fi shows like Black Mirror, Dark, and Station Eleven, some of the best dystopian sci-fi TV shows, is that they explore human truths using the context of technological advancement. From body modifications to time travel, sci-fi presents the dream of breaking boundaries that physics and biology impose on us, and uses that context to confront viewers with questions about the nature of humanity. While some shows like Star Trek have such a legacy that they're not only always remembered but consistently rebooted, some equally great shows have a more unfortunate fate.
The problem of relying on viewership per season led to recent sci-fi shows getting canceled that didn't deserve it. Shows like The 100 which have aired for years provide a rich collection of compelling storylines and complex conundrums, but with rampant cancelations, shows rarely have the prospect of doing that anymore. It's a high-risk, high-reward gamble these days.

The Way Home’s Andie MacDowell on Del’s Skimpy Swimming Scene: ‘It Was a Good Thing to Do at My Age’

The Way Home star Andie MacDowell has a favorite scene from Season 2 of Hallmark Channel’s time-traveling family drama, and it’s one that might have made other performers nervous.

For anyone who watches “The Way Home” knows that sometimes, it can get a little confusing with so many different time periods going on at once. That’s the case for the executive producers too. During an FYC panel for the hit Hallmark Channel series on May 8, the showrunners admitted that it takes a lot of work and research to keep everything straight.
“We start at the end and then kind of work backward. We had a wonderful plan right from the start when Marly Reed created the show and wrote a beautiful bible for it. Alex and I were just so lucky to be part of it and develop it,” said co-showrunner Heather Conkie, referring to her daughter and co-showrunner, Alexandra Clarke. “We really had a three, four, five-year plan? And we’re now working on the third year. We see what worked from the first two years and it’s a process.

The fifth and final season of Syfy’s Killjoys will see the show close things out on its own irreverent terms.

Back in 2006, Canadian filmmaker Rob Stewart released a documentary that had a profound effect on the preservation of the world’s shark population.
Sharkwater was a hugely respected, award-winning film that exposed the corruption rooted in the shark fishing industry, particularly in areas such as Costa Rica and Ecuador, while helping scientists understand the importance of sharks in the age of man-made climate change.
With every species of shark still under existential threat, Stewart decided he had to go again, eventually coming up with a sequel – Sharkwater Extinction.
Treading much of the same ground as the previous movie, Extinction exposes the scale at which mankind is destroying the shark population in the name of food, sport fishing and even beauty products.
Stewart sets off on a journey around the the same shark-destroying climes (mostly Costa Rica) with a small team of helpers, filming his experiences as he quizzes locals and politicians about what’s occurring,...

Rob Stewart’s followup to his 2006 feature shines a light on human cruelty – and gains power from the fate of its maker
In the 2006 eco-doc Sharkwater, Canadian activist film-maker Rob Stewart gave us a heartfelt plea to save the planet’s sharks. He was on a mission to reduce overfishing and rehabilitate the creatures’ reputation as stone-cold killers – if only we could love sharks as much as we love cuddly pandas we’d do more to protect them. Back then, you couldn’t help feeling that Stewart wanted us to love him too, with all the shots of himself in tiny Speedos. Watching the sequel, I experienced a sharp stab of self-reproach. Stewart died in a diving accident while shooting this film – he was 37. Sharkwater: Extinction has been scrappily put together from footage he’d already shot.
And there are some striking images here. Since the first film, many countries...

“Sharkwater Extinction” isn’t just a follow-up to 2006’s “Sharkwater”; it’s another in a long line of well-intentioned advocacy docs that end with a website address. The difference, however, is that Rob Stewart’s film also concludes with the Canadian writer-director’s own 2017 demise at the age of 37 from hypoxia, which lends it a gravity — and urgency — that few like-minded efforts can claim. A testament to its maker’s staunch belief in the cause of shark preservation, it’s a plea for transparency and conservation whose gorgeous 4K cinematography should make it an enticing proposition for nonfiction cinephiles and activists alike.
Stewart’s fate isn’t revealed at the outset of “Sharkwater Extinction;” rather, it’s foreshadowed by ominous colleague comments as well as Stewart’s own admission that, while his parents worry about his safety, his success at surviving brushes with death has only amplified his confidence. There...

"The only option I have is to not give up." Freestyle Digital Media has debuted an official trailer for a new documentary titled Sharkwater Extinction, the latest doc by Canadian filmmaker / activist Rob Stewart. This follow-up to Stewart's 2006 doc Sharkwater is once again all about sharks, but this time it's about the billion dollar illegal shark fin industry and the political corruption behind it. By exposing the truth behind all the illegal fishing, he also looks at how this industry that threatens the survival of the world's sharks. "Shark finning is still rampant, shark fin soup is still being consumed, and endangered sharks are now also being used to make products for human consumption. Stewart’s mission is to save the sharks before it’s too late." This looks like it's trying to be Blackfish but for sharks with the hope of actually causing real change. Here's the official trailer...

This year’s Canadian feature slate — 25 in all — can be seen in six Tiff sections including Discovery, Tiff Docs and Wavelengths.
Among the selected features are highly anticipated films from fest alumni including Denys Arcand, Barry Avrich and the late Rob Stewart.

Sony Classics bought the North American rights to the film during the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film, which will play in Tiff’s special presentations section, is a thematic cousin to Arcand’s Oscar-nominated “The Decline of the American Empire” and the Oscar-winning “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003).
Avrich returns to Tiff’s docu section with “Prosecuting Evil: The Extraordinary World of Ben Ferencz,” a portrait of the United States’ chief prosecutor during the Nuremberg trial. Stewart’s final film, “Sharkwater Extinction” will...

This is not your grandfather’s Superman. It is, however, Superman’s grandfather. (It’ll all make sense in a second.)
British up-and-comer Cameron Cuffe has landed the lead role in Krypton, Syfy’s in-the-works prequel series set two generations before Superman’s home planet went boom. Cuffe will play the Man of Steel’s granddad Seg-El, the scion of the once prosperous El family who is blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical; he is now living in Krypton’s lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank. Thus far, Syfy has only ordered a pilot for Krypton.

There's nothing I love more than closing out a season with positive renewal news... Yay!
Especially since Killjoys seriously upped the ante in its second season. The incredible world building opened up, our characters evolved plus we met a few new players, and the writing was consistently terrific. We laughed. We cried. We were shocked, but in the end always entertained.
I have zero complaints about this finale. They even brought Clara back and gave us an outstanding space battle. How about those VFX guys?
Yeah, I could not be more satisfied with Killjoys Season 2 Episode 10.

After a solid first season, Killjoys came out in season 2 ready to kick ass, take names, and up the ante. Eight episodes in, the show has not only achieved those goals but has surpassed them; turning in storylines that balance heavy action, light banter, and deep emotions without tilting too far in any one direction. That's not to say that things haven't changed. They definitely have. In season one, Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) was the focused one and John Jacobis (Aaron Ashmoore) was her partner and grounding force. Whatever came at them, she kept her cool. Even as D'avin Jacobis (Luke MacFarlane) was dealing with everything from mind control to being taken to Arkyn and Red-17. Dutch was John's support as much as he was hers. Season two has flipped that dynamic almost completely. Once he's rescued from Red-17, D'avin starts finding his center as John realizes he wants something more...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including The Night Of, Preacher, Zoo and Mr. Robot!
1 | Boy/Girl Meets World fans, given the parallels between Cory and Riley’s experiences at Mount Sun Lodge, was there ever any doubt this wannabe sherpa was Lauren’s son?
2 | Was it any surprise — any surprise at all — that the fiancé on Killjoys turned out to be a bad guy? Also, how good were Luke Macfarlane/D’Av and Rob Stewart/Khylen at swapping characters?...

I'll be honest, I can't say I'll miss Pawter's folks even though they went out heroes.
Both teams spent time with their wretched parents, but we quickly realized the elders were being tough attempting to make their kids stronger. Was the time wasted worth it though? Killjoys Season 2 Episode 5 proved there's always room for forgiveness.
There were so many great comedic moments here. Man, I just love Johnny Jaqobis.

Sure, I realize the Killjoys still have to chase warrants while piecing together the larger mysteries of the Quad, but man those "voice-box" Skeever dudes were just plain nasty. Weren't they?
I was hoping this installment might pick up with Khlyen and Fancy Lee, but I guess they had to get the action sequence out of the way early.
Since Johnny's scenes were going to take place on Qresh with Pawter and her parents, I was...

Although many of our favorite shows are about to take a few months off, that doesn’t mean your TV will become obsolete during the summertime. SyFy intends to heat things up with the release of two trailers promoting the sophomore seasons of Dark Matter and Killjoys.
I admit that it’s not often I become addicted to a summer series, but I found myself pleasantly surprised when Dark Matter effectively entralled me with its intrigue, space exploration, and great characters that were just as unaware of who they were as the viewer was. With the team having been betrayed from within during the first season’s finale, I expect the new dynamic added to extend the scope of what’s been established.
In addition to the promo video, which can be viewed at the top, SyFy has released an official synopsis that provides insight into the coming season as...

Confession time. Between working a full time job and keeping Nerdly going, I don’t have a lot of downtime. Working all day and well into the night also means I also often struggle to unwind at bedtime. But a few years ago I found a solution for that, YouTube. Whereas a lot of people will read a book in bed for going to sleep, I watch videos. In particular the myriad of retro gamers on YouTube making videos about their collections, their game hunts and their general all-round love for old-school gaming. I’ve even made some videos of that nature myself.
Over the years there has been an explosion of well-produced YouTube “shows” that rival Us reality television in terms of editing, production and quality.

In recent years there has been a real boom in documentaries surrounding popular culture. Films such as Electric Boogaloo, Video Nasties, The Search for Weng Weng and Adjust Your Tracking have captured the zeitgeist of fans across the globe, and in turn inspired more people to create their own documentaries about pop culture subjects that matter to them…
But not all these documentaries see the same success. Having been on something of a documentary kick lately, I thought I’d break down the ten of the best little-known, or better yet little-discussed, pop-culture documentaries from the many, many examples I have been watching. So here they are and, for once, they’re in order:
1) Slaughter Nick For President
There’s a good reason this film is at the top of my list. This is the documentary that kicked off my exploration of pop culture documentaries (eventually ending up at compliling this list) and,...

If you spent the weekend reliving season 1 of Beauty and the Beast (like I did), tonight’s season 2 premiere may seem a little bit like learning a foreign language. The characters seem slightly off, the villain appears to have the best intentions, and the plot stinks of recycled storylines.
The truth is that Beauty and the Beast at its core is a love story. When you take away all the layers of fluff and mystery, that’s what it ultimately comes down to. When you take that aspect of the show away and refocus it to encompass a grander scheme of core ideals, there’s a rather gaping hole in the plot.
We spent most of Beauty and the Beast‘s freshman season gushing over the blossoming relationship between Cat (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan). We swooned when they said their first ’I love you,’ giggled when they started having sleepovers,...

Besides starring Kristin Kreuk, Beauty and the Beast's other Smallville connections include executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, who guided that series during its final three seasons. Wedding Bells Ring — When Catherine’s (Kristin Kreuk) dad (guest-star Rob Stewart) gets remarried, the bride-to-be and her bridesmaids try to find the daughter-of-the-groom a date for the wedding. Uncomfortable with being set up, Cat reluctantly admits that she’s seeing somebody and confides to Vincent (Jay Ryan) that she wishes he could be her date. At the wedding reception, Cat learns about a research grant that Evan (Max Brown) received to study the mutant DNA cells found at local crime scenes. When she tells Vincent about Evan’s theory of how the cells are changing to become more animal-like and less human, she encounters an unexpected detour that could change the course of their relationship. Meanwhile, Tess (Nina Lisandrello) and...
