There’s a bar in Studio City where writers and actors can take any residuals check under $1 and exchange it for a drink.

Residuals – the bar, that is – may now start seeing fewer checks from writers after it emerged that the WGA West is introducing direct deposits for the first time.

The writers guild, which scored an increase in residuals, particularly for streaming, during last year’s strike, is rolling out the new direct deposits plan in phases. Some writers began receiving emails last week that will allow them to register to its new payment hub, while others will receive these emails over the coming weeks and it will eventually be available to all WGA West members.

Last month, it was revealed in the Wgaw’s annual financial report that while employment and earnings was down last year, as a result of the strike, the guild collected more residuals.

After 148 days of a WGA strike that ground production to a halt and put tens of thousands out of work, everyone in Hollywood has a reason to celebrate this week after the guild and the studios reached a tentative agreement Sunday night and the strike came to an end this morning. The WGA leadership, which approved the deal yesterday and sent it to the membership for a vote, has called “exceptional” the agreement, which includes AI guardrails, viewership-based residuals, writers room minimums, pay raises and other major gains.

Striking Writers Guild of America members expressed both tempered optimism and wariness Wednesday in response to the news that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers had reached out to restart talks amid stalled contract negotiations.

“I hope they’re serious, I hope that they are coming to this with a much more open mind than they had last time,” said three-time WGA negotiating committee co-chair Billy Ray (Captain Phillips), who is not playing that role this year. “I can tell you if they are, a deal will be made.”

Former WGA West president Howard Rodman added in a written statement: “One hopes that the AMPTP may at long last grasp that the cost of negotiating a fair deal is less than the cost of an ongoing strike. But Friday’s conversation is, quite simply, a single and very preliminary step.”

Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary’s Revelations Entertainment is teaming with former Lakeshore Entertainment president Gary Lucchesi for a joint production venture.

Lucchesi will develop projects in film, television and new media. He headed Lakeshore for more than two decades and worked with Freeman on 2005’s “Million Dollar Baby” and 2007’s “Feast of Love.” Lucchesi’s other credits include “The Ugly Truth,” “The Lincoln Lawyer” and the “Underworld” franchise.

McCreary and Lucchesi were co-presidents of the Producers Guild of America from 2014 to 2018. She’s the CEO of Revelations, which she co-founded with Freeman, with credits including “Invictus” and the CBS series “Madam Secretary.” The news was first reported by Deadline.

The producers of the Netflix series No Good Nick have issued a statement confirming the show’s cancellation after one season.

David H. Steinberg and Keetgi Kogan, the creators and EPs, thanked Netflix and the fans for their art, fan fic and support on the program. The comedy starred Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin as Liz and Ed, whose 13-year-old Nick (Siena Agudong) has a secret agenda, struggling with whether she can go through with erh plan to get revenge on the couple for unwittingly ruining her life.

The series had a 20-episode order as of 2018, with the first 10 bowing last April. The second 10 arrived Aug. 5.

Netflix has cancelled the Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin comedy “No Good Nick” after just one season, individuals with knowledge of the cancellation tell TheWrap.

The multi-camera followed 13-year-old Nick, short for Nicole, who infiltrates a family with the intention to get revenge on them for unknowingly ruining her life. As she gets to know the family, she will find compassion for them and will struggle with whether or not she can ultimately go through with the plan.

Hart played the career mom to Astin’s knuckle-headed dad, with Siena Agudong (Nickelodeon’s “Star Falls”) as Nick. It also starred Lauren Lindsey Donzis and Kalama Epstein, who are also veteran child actors.

Titled “No Good Nick,” the series follows Liz (Hart) and Ed (Astin), a hyper-competitive career mom and lovable but dorky “fun dad,” respectively, who unwittingly welcome thirteen-year-old Nick (short for Nicole) into their family of four before realizing she is a street-smart con artist with a secret agenda. Siena Agudong stars as Nick.

Production has already begun on the series, which also stars Kalama Epstein and Lauren Lindsey Donzis.

“No Good Nick” is executive produced and created by David H. Steinberg and Keetgi Kogan, and directed by Andy Fickman. The original series is produced by Netflix.

The first photos are out from "Kindergarten Cop 2," the forthcoming sequel to the now 25-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger family action-comedy.

Universal's 1440 Entertainment, which specializes in direct-to-video sequels and reboots like "The Scorpion King 4," "Jarhead 3," "Hard Target 2" and the disturbingly named "Beethoven's Treasure Tail," are behind this follow-up which sees Dolph Lundgren taking on the part of a tough-guy law enforcement officer.

Lundgren's Agent Reed goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to retrieve a flash drive with sensitive information stolen from the Witness Protection Program. Unlike Arnie, Lundgren's character must also face off with the school's "politically correct environment".

Earlier this year, we learned that Dolph Lundgren was shooting Kindergarten Cop 2. I was surprised to learn that this is actually happening, and now we have some official photos from the film featuring a frustrated Lundgren yelling at kids and other awkward interactions that the actor has with them.

In the film, Lundgren plays an undercover cop posing as a kindergarten teacher who is "on the trail of a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness protection program. Somehow it’s wound up in a kindergarten class." Lundgren will also have "an Indian sidekick named Sanjit" helping him track down a group of Albanian bad guys.

It's a shame they didn't get Arnold Schwarzenegger on board to team up with Lundgren in this ridiculous sequel. As I joked about in my initial report, the next Expendables movie should be patterned after Kindergarten Cop. I have to watch this movie...

Maybe Kindergarten Cop 2 with Dolph Lundgren sounds so ridiculous that you can't fathom such a thing. But 90s nostalgia is in full-force, and while a Kindergarten Cop 2 might not be worthy of a big screen release, enough kids who are now adults remember it, and will probably give it a change once it hits home video in 2016. At this time, there is no confirmed release date. But we may see the first trailer around Christmas time.

In news that may surprise the hell out of you, not only has Dolph Lundgren been cast in a "Kindergarten Cop" sequel, he's reportedly already filming said project.

Manly Movies has posted photos from the set of the project which is being directed by Michael Don ("Jarhead 2: Field of Fire") from a script by David H. Steinberg ("American Pie") and is shooting in Vancouver.

There are good Arnold movies. There are bad Arnold movies. Then there are the Arnold comedies. Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won the Original Screenplay honor at the recently concluded Writers Guild Awards while Morten Tyldum's "The Imitation Game" took home the Adapted Screenplay trophy. "The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swarts" written by Brian Knappenberger won Documentary Screenplay award. The film is not nominated for an Academy award.

The drama executive-produced by Aaron Kaplan and Lefkowitz, follows a young woman who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Variety reports that Lionsgate is produces in association with Televisa. Phys Ed written and executive-produced by David H. Steinberg, tells of a former jock's return to his high school but this time he's a teacher. Continuing Fred, whose pilot is scripted by Bill Daly, follows Winifred "Fred" Harris and her entry into work as an elementary school teacher.

Expanding on the feline swashbuckler from the “Shrek” series of films, “Puss in Boots” is a decent exercise of the animated pact, but doesn’t offer anything new or particular exciting. The generated atmosphere is gorgeous, truly a miracle of the modern age, but the filmmakers probably think this is enough. It took four writers to sweat out the adventurous screenplay, only to fall back on litter box jokes and a greek chorus cat who offers the oh-no-you-didn’t aphorism.

Set before his Shrek adventures, Puss in Boots (voice of Banderas) is introduced in all his roguish ways, loving and leaving his feline companion.

Chicago – A media and admirer frenzy took place last week at the Kerasotes Icon theater in Chicago, where Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek walked the red carpet at the sneak preview for the upcoming film “Puss in Boots.” Both lent their voices to characters that are a spin-off from the “Shrek” series of animated films.

The Puss in Boots character, as voiced by Banderas, first appeared in “Shrek 2,” and got more screen time as the animated series went along. It is the combination of the suave interpretation of the character by Banderas and the comedy that the Shrek team gave the feline that made the role so popular. It almost was natural that there would be a spin-off, and that Salma Hayek would join the cast – as Kitty Softpaws.
