The sequel to the 2018 original, which hit theaters on January 10, features the return of Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Big Nick and Donnie Wilson. Christian Gudegast, who wrote and directed the first film, returns to helm the sequel. This time, Big Nick heads to Europe, closing in on Donnie, who is now entangled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia. The two ultimately become involved in a heist targeting the world’s largest diamond exchange.

Evin Ahmad, Salvatore Esposito, Meadow Williams, and Swen Temmel round out the cast of the action blockbuster that received mixed to positive reviews from critics upon its release.

Exciting news has been revealed for fans of the Den of Thieves movies. After the recent success of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, the movie series will now become a trilogy.

Per Variety, Den of Thieves 3 is now in development with Lionsgate, Tucker Tooley Entertainment, and G-base. Gerard Butler is set to return to star after appearing in the first two films, and it's "expected" that O'Shea Jackson Jr. will also be back on board as the actor's co-star. Lionsgate is now in talks with franchise writer-director Christian Gudegast to write and direct the third film, and Butler is producing under his G-base banner alongside Alan Siegel. I remember when heist movies had memorable characters and scenarios. Den of Thieves certainly didn’t and its only slightly better follow-up, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, tries at the very least, though its efforts ultimately fall flat. The film has less action, which isn’t a bad thing since it builds up suspense for the actual heist and its aftermath, and more talking. Whereas the first film was more gritty and violent, the sequel is more polished and developed. But it’s also the same amount of underwhelming, failing to fully launch despite an intriguing setup.

Gerard Butler didn’t have the best time filming Den of Thieves 2: Pantera as he shot the movie “with a freshly torn Acl.”

In a new interview, the actor revealed that he filmed the action-intense movie while injured.

“This was a weird time for me at the beginning of this movie because I’d been through a pretty intense surgery, and then I tore my Acl fully about a month later and then started this movie,” Butler told Entertainment Weekly.

He continued, “So I was not in the best shape, and it was a pretty physical movie, and I didn’t have a chance to get the surgery on my Acl, so I made this movie with a freshly torn Acl, and it was pretty rough. But yeah… I wanted to put a ‘but’ in to make it sound positive, but it wasn’t positive; it was a nightmare...

In a post on the social media platform X, Snyder shared a selfie he took with Butler. The post was captioned, "Lunch with Leonidas. Excited for Den of Thieves 2 on January 10th." Snyder and Butler's reunion comes 17 years after 300 was released in theaters. Based on the 1998 comic book limited series of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 is a fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae in the Greco-Persian Wars, revolving around Butler's King Leonidas, who leads 300 Spartans into battle against the Persian "God-King" Xerxes and his invading army of soldiers that numbers 300,000. A date has finally been put on the board for Gerard Butler's upcoming action sequel Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. A sequel to 2018's Den of Thieves, the new film has been slated for a release in theaters in early 2025.

Per Variety, Den of Thieves: Pantera will be released in theaters on Jan. 10, 2025. Currently, this is the only film that's been announced for a release on that date, though more are likely to be added to the schedule in the coming months. Filming was initially set for 2022 with the sequel, but shooting didn't end up starting until April 2023, concluding that summer. The film's rights were acquired at least year's Cannes market by Briarcliff Entertainment.

Let’s be honest the old re-living the same day over and over till it has a satisfying conclusion is a trope we have seen many many times.
