Sobel had filed a lawsuit against his landlord for refusing to do repairs on his San Fran rental and sending him harassing texts, but he says things escalated when the landlord took things online. Comedian Barry Sobel - best known for his '80s "hip hop comedy" routine and his appearance in Revenge of the Nerds II - hosts a new online variety series for Lexus' LStudio and Tom Hanks' Playtone Company. It's called The 3 Minute Talk Show and here's the catch: it's a late-night talk show in the Jay Leno or Conan O'Brien mold, but all in just 3 minutes! And here's the problem. (Well, one of them...) It can't hold to its own somewhat flimsy gimmick. I suppose the format itself Could work. The interview is a quick clip and one question, then a comic comes out and does one joke, there's some quick banter, and you're out. But the first two episodes are both six minutes long! They even have a clock that supposedly counts down the 3 minutes, but it's fake and goes super-slow because the show is longer. This is...

I told you Tom Hanks was going to be making more web series. Last October, the Hollywood star with one of the most extensive collections of statuettes in the entertainment business had his Playtone Company ink a deal with Mumbai-based production company Reliance. With their powers combined, they’ll create an animated web series about an anti-dystopian future dubbed Electric City. The deal was done sometime after Hanks discovered YouTube while on the set of Larry Crowne. Watch a few of those videos. Doesn’t it look like he’s having such a good time? Like, too much of a good time not to seriously pursue more new media projects? Well, that’s exactly what he’s done. Hanks, along with Playtone partner Garry Goetzman today announced the launch of the original web series The Three Minute Talk Show on Lexus’ LStudio. The show’s exactly what it sounds like.

On Jan. 26, LStudio.com, the site that launched Lisa Kudrow’s Web Therapy, debuts the weekly series The 3 Minute Talk Show with Barry Sobel. Watch the exclusive trailer premiere below. The title is pretty self-explanatory, but aside from the minimum time commitment, here are a few more reasons to watch: Fred Willard serves as Sobel’s cohost. Ben Lee fronts the band. The first two guests are Tom Hanks (his Playtone partnered with Lexus’ LStudio for the unscripted show) and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, whose episodes go live this Wednesday. And, at some point, Jon Cryer, of TV’s...
