The official “Friends” YouTube channel Tuesday posted the first two episodes of “Joey,” a spinoff series centering around Matt LeBlanc’s wisecracking womanizer Joey Tribbiani.

This is the first time “Joey” has been made available since its 2004 debut. Starring LeBlanc alongside Drea de Matteo, Paulo Costanzo, Jennifer Coolidge and Andrea Anders, the series follows the titular Joey as he “leaves New York for Hollywood in order to take his acting career to the next level” and reunites with “his high-strung sister Gina (Matteo) and “Michael (Costanzo), his 20-year-old genius nephew,” per the official logline.

Actor Ned Beatty passed away in his sleep on Sunday. The Oscar nominee, known for turns in Network, Deliverance and much more, was 83.

Beattie’s manager, Deborah Miller, confirmed the news to Deadline, saying that Beattie passed away from natural causes this morning, surrounded by his family and loved ones. No other details about his death were provided.

“Ned was an iconic, legendary talent, as well as a dear friend,” said Miller, “and he will be missed by us all.”

Born on July 6, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky, Beatty kicked off his career as an actor around the age of 19, when he appeared on stage in the play Wilderness Road. He spent his first 10 years in the profession working in theaters across Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana.

In 1972, he made his feature film debut in John Boorman’s thriller Deliverance, opposite Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds, playing the role of Atlanta businessman Bobby Trippe.

Chet Dave has been promoted to SVP of Comedy Development at 20th Television, from his previous VP role. Dave replaces Cheryl Dolins, who left the studio in December as part of the restructuring and consolidation of 20th Television and Touchstone Television under 20th TV President Karey Burke.

Reporting to EVP of Development Carolyn Cassidy, Dave and his team will be responsible for setting the studio’s Comedy development strategy, identifying writers and helping to shepherd projects from pitch to series order.

ABC has handed a late pilot order to Kids Matter Now, a multi-camera comedy from Better with You creator Shana Goldberg-Meehan, CBS Television Studios and 20th Century Fox TV.

Written and executive produced by Goldberg-Meehan and to be directed by Christine Gernon (Speechless), Kids Matter Now centers on a diva boss with no patience for working parents who adopts a baby and has a change of heart, casting her mother-of-three assistant as an unlikely mentor and upending the office dynamics.

The cancellation of Speechless was a “gut wrenching” decision for ABC boss Karey Burke.

The ABC Entertainment president revealed that it was a tough decision that caused a lot of “anguish” and also hit hard given that creator and exec producer Scott Silveri is a former producing partner of hers.

“There was a lot of anguish for me and all of us at ABC. We love Speechless, it was a very tough decision. Scott Silveri is a former producing partner of mine and it was not without great gut wrenching consideration that we ultimately made that call. We looked at a lot of factors and ultimately it came down to numbers and feeling like we could shore up the night more strongly with Fresh Off The Boat,” she said at Disney’s press upfronts.

Responding to a question from NPR’s Eric Deggens about the online “anguish” over the decision to cancel the show after three seasons, the ABC Entertainment chairman said there was “a lot of anguish for me, also, and all of us at ABC.” The comedy was part of seven shows that ABC decided not to bring back for next season.

“We loved ‘Speechless.’ And personally for me, it was a very tough decision — Scott Silveri is a former producing partner of mine,” Burke said on Tuesday during parent company Disney’s upfront press briefing. “It was not without great, great, gut-wrenching consideration that we ultimately made that call.”

Just like its competition this year, ABC is using “stability” as its buzzword for next season, as well as leaning into its female-centric brand.

The company announced on Tuesday that its fall 2019 schedule will feature just three new scripted series, touting that it makes for the network’s “most stable schedule in over a decade.”

Although the scuttlebutt around Hollywood was that new ABC entertainment president Karey Burke and Disney TV Studios/ABC entertainment chairman Dana Walden weren’t thrilled with the program development they inherited, the network framed their light roster of new series orders on “the consistent viewership that many of ABC’s current shows continue to offer.”

“Since the beginning of the year, ABC has been the No. 1 network with a schedule that is working, and we are going to nurture it,” Burke said in a statement. “Going into next season, our priorities are stability and launching...

Minnie Driver says ABC’s cancellation of her series Speechless today “feels rather sad,” but she believes the show made a positive impact on the “conversation about family, disability and love.”

“Well now listen,” Driver tweeted this afternoon after ABC announced the show would not be back after Season 3. “Speechless has been cancelled and it feels rather sad. Advocacy group the Ruderman Family Foundation has saluted four TV series for their accurate depictions of people with disabilities — but, significantly, no films were included in this inaugural round of awards.

The shows honored were ABC’s “Speechless,” CBS’ “NCIS: New Orleans,” and two series on Netflix, “Special” and “The Oa.” Each will be given the organization’s seal of authentic representation.

“Each of these television programs has demonstrated a commitment to inclusion of actors with disabilities, reflecting a deeper belief in the importance of representing diversity in all forms in popular entertainment,” said Foundation president Jay Ruderman. “We hope this Seal, along with the example set by each recipient program, inspires the rest of the entertainment community to provide real opportunities for people with disabilities to be part of popular culture’s great storytelling tradition.”

The Foundation has been working for equal rights for years, but these are their first awards.

E4 has added ABC sitcom “Speechless” to its U.K. lineup. The entertainment channel of British commercial broadcaster Channel 4, aimed primarily at 16-34-year-olds, has acquired all three seasons of the irreverent comedy which is expected to begin airing soon.

Today, however, the TV terrain is slowly diversifying with women of color, people with disabilities and queer characters — and in the comedy genre especially, stories are becoming more inclusive.

“Any kind of storytelling that seeks to tell fundamental truths about the human condition can be inclusive,” says Justin Simien, who executive produces “Dear White People” for Netflix. “Comedy does have a unique power, however, in that laughter can be so seductive. The single-camera comedy follows Maya Dimeo (Minnie Driver), a mom on a mission who will do anything for her family, particularly her eldest son Jj (Micah Fowler), who has cerebral palsy. The series begins with the family moving to a new school that will provide Jj with an aide to speak for him, but Jj prefers the company of groundskeeper Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough).

In addition to Driver, Fowler, and Yarbrough, the series stars John Ross Bowie, Mason Cook, and Kyla Kenedy. Scott Silveri created the series and serves as executive producer of the show, along with “Fresh Off the Boat’s” Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. The world of television criticism can be as fun as it is daunting. With so many shows coming out every year, month, week, and sometimes each day, simply watching enough of a new series to adequately grade it is a full-time job; a job we’re very pleased to have, but one we do not take lightly. To that end, it’s time to dig into one of the trickiest TV groups to assess: broadcast’s new entries.

Not only are broadcast seasons typically longer than their peers on cable and streaming, but critics are often given just a pilot episode to view before reaching a verdict. So many of the Fall 2016 entries were graded off merely an hour or two for dramas, and less for many comedies. But now — two months past the first flood of fresh programming — we’ve got a better idea of what shows you need to be watching,...

Minnie Driver yelling, “Oy! Oy!” at people she disapproves of is, quite simply, a thing of beauty. But more than that, it’s an act we need to support each and every opportunity we get. Sheer joy is experienced by all within earshot when she tosses her English colloquialism like a grenade at unsuspecting offenders, and simple pleasures like this are in such short supply how dare you, I or anyone deprive the world of even one?

It’s with this in mind that I throw my full endorsement behind “Speechless,” Driver’s new ABC comedy wedged between “The Goldbergs,” “Modern Family” and “Black-ish” as the missing piece of the network’s award-worthy (and award-winning) family night lineup. Yes, there are a few pacing issues in the 22-minute pilot, and recommending a series based on one episode of television is a risky gamble critics are asked to make far too often.

If you've been watching ABC's family comedies over the last few years, Speechless will feel simultaneously familiar and unusual, both in ways that are reassuring. Since the debuts of Modern Family and The Middle, ABC has had an uncanny knack for developing single-camera comedies about families, each of them feeling like part of the some coherent brand, but having their own distinct voice and perspective. Not all of them have entirely clicked (The Real O'Neals is still figuring itself out, though it has moments), but there are safer bets in the TV business right now. Based on the pilot episode, at least, Speechless (it debuts tomorrow at 8:30, in between The Goldbergs and Modern Family) looks like another winner. The hook here is that the family, headed by Maya Dimeo (Minnie Driver) — husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie from Big Bang Theory) knows his role is to support Maya's leadership and...

ABC’s latest series order is leaving the network Speechless. The Alphabet Net on Friday picked up Minnie Driver’s new comedy, TVLine has learned.

In the series, Driver plays Maya Dimeo, a mom passionate about her family: husband Jimmy and ch Ray, Dylan and, Jj, the latter of which has special needs. As the official logline states: “As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves, and searches for just the right person to give Jj his ‘voice.'”
