This morning, Marvel took its first steps with the Fantastic Four and found itself knee-deep in the AI debate. The controversy isn't about the trailer. Rather, some believe AI had a hand in the film's teaser posters, showcasing Central City citizens reveling in the existence of Marvel's first family in the 1960s.

In the realm of comic book adaptations, loyalty to source material is often considered a benchmark for success. However, when it came to Amazon’s hit series The Boys, Eric Kripke took a refreshingly bold stance by encouraging his cast, including Jensen Ackles, to steer clear of the original comics.

Unlike Marvel Studios’ traditional method of adhering to the comics, Eric Kripke made an unconventional request to Jensen Ackles, who played Soldier Boy in the show. During an interview with The Wrap, Ackles thus reflected on the advice, which might offend Marvel fans, especially after the failure of Secret Invasion, despite Kevin Feige following a similar approach.

The fifth entrant in the Mad Max saga is all set to take things up a notch. If Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’s trailer left any doubts up about how good the flick would turn out to be, its Australian premiere has proved its detractors (though they were small in number) wrong. Just as the movie was nearing its release, Anna Taylor-Joy has dropped a statement that could very well go on to hamper the movie’s chances in the long run and haunt George Miller & Co.

While winning an Oscar is obviously a huge deal for actors, making an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a bit of an achievement in itself. Even though Olivia Colman’s casting for the Disney+ series Secret Invasion thrilled us, we could not help but wonder why she wanted to join the cast. Now that we know, she is a fan as well.
The idea behind the show was something that viewers had been eagerly anticipating, but the Disney+ series received a mixed reception. And it was not expected. Despite this, in a recent interview, Colman appeared to be constantly raving about how much she loves the MCU.

When Ali Selim was brought in to helm MCU’s Secret Invasion, he was warned against reading the comics, as the Disney Plus series had nothing to do with the source material. While it’s not wrong for adaptations to deviate from the source material, in the case of MCU, avoiding creators from delving into comics has backfired for them.

Marvel's Secret Invasion was a highly anticipated new addition to the MCU, that sadly failed to deliver a compelling story. Despite the seemingly nonexistent tie-ins to recent and future MCU projects, the show made multiple choices that may lead to a completely changed Marvel universe moving forward. Or they could be completely ignored.
Despite being the main character, Nick Fury makes little direct impact on moving the plot forward, instead spending the majority of the series taking questionable actions in response to the choices of other newly introduced characters. The final moments cloud his future in the MCU, and though both Fury and the Skrulls featured in the first feature film to follow the series conclusion, The Marvels, there was no mention of or fallout from the events of Secret Invasion. If Marvel failed to address these events in the project with the clearest opportunity to tie the stories together,...

Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame prevented him from learning that his best friend Rhodey had been replaced by a Skrull, maintaining the bittersweet nature of his farewell. The revelation that Rhodey was a Skrull since Captain America: Civil War raises heartbreaking implications, with Tony unaware of the deception all along. Rhodey's post-Endgame story in Armor Wars will revolve around reconciling the time he missed with Tony and his resentment towards the Skrulls, adding depth to the aftermath of Secret Invasion.
The betrayal in Captain America: Civil War that led to Rhodey's critical injury (albeit via friendly fire) was a painful experience for all MCU heroes, not least Iron Man - but that pain could have been magnified if Tony Stark hadn't died in Avengers: Endgame. Tony Stark and Rhodey's friendship across the MCU is tantamount to that of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, with Tony's rampant aggression towards...

Things get wacky in a clip from The Marvels that features protagonists Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani).
The clip begins with Carol with Kamala's home as the latter's parents, Yusuf and Muneeba, and brother Aamir, fight Kree warriors while Carol looks at her fist after a brief energy surge emits from it. She then grabs the weapon of one of the attackers, who calls her "Annihilator!" Carol angrily remarks, "I don't like that name," and throws the warrior into a wall.

The uneven plotting of Marvel's Secret Invasion appears to be matched by its behind-the-scenes production troubles.
A new The Hollywood Reporter exposé revealed multiple firings and studio tensions that ensued during the making of Secret Invasion's scripts and even its filming stages. Originally, writer Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) was tasked with writing the series, only for Marvel Studios to fire him a year later after it "decided on a different direction," with Broken City writer Brian Tucker replacing Bradstreet on screenwriting duties. Pre-production eventually continued but, by mid-2022, production dynamics had worsened to the point that, according to one insider source, "It was weeks of people not getting along, and it erupted."

A new report reveals the issues behind the disappointment of Secret Invasion, the first Marvel series with Nick Fury, highlighting backstage conflicts and a writer being fired. Secret Invasion faced problems during preproduction, with tensions between the team leading to a fallout, prompting Marvel to bring in a new creative committee member to salvage the show. Despite high expectations, Secret Invasion fell short due to behind-the-scenes difficulties, ultimately resulting in changes to the writing team and the need for outside help to steer the series.
A new report explains what went wrong with Secret Invasion. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series was the first project to focus on Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, but sadly, despite Jackson and Secret Invasion's all-star cast, the MCU series was not as good as Marvel fans hoped it would be. The reason for Secret Invasion falling short of expectations has now been revealed.

It didn’t take long to see the problem after Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again paused production in mid-June during the writers strike. Fewer than half of the series’ 18 episodes had been shot, but it was enough for Marvel executives, including chief Kevin Feige, to review the footage and come away with a clear-eyed assessment: The show wasn’t working.
So, in late September, Marvel quietly let go of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and also released the directors for the remainder of the season as part of a significant creative reboot of the series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The studio is now on the hunt for new writers and directors for the project, which stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer turned superhero.

Emilia Clarke's superpowered Skrull, G'iah, will reportedly lead a new superhero team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to credible scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X, G'iah will "be back sooner than you think" and leading "her own group of British based superheroes." In the series finale of Secret Invasion, G'iah agrees to work with MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Colman) to protect the Skrulls against U.S. President Ritson's bill that declares all off-world species as hostile forces. With Falsworth based in the United Kingdom, it is possible that she could be the one responsible for assembling the British equivalent of the Avengers for G'iah to lead. Secret Invasion addresses arguably its most controversial character death as the Disney+ show's executive producer believes the killing of beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe character Maria Hill was necessary.
Speaking on Marvel Studios' Assembled: The Making of Secret Invasion, producer Brian Tucker delved into why the titular show decided to kill off Hill during its series premiere, "Resurrection." According to Tucker, the reasoning behind having Maria die was to further play up the serious threat Gravik and his radicalized Skrull group possessed during their siege of Earth. “One of the kind of just most important decisions that we had to make early on was to really illustrate the scale and the reality of the danger that Gravik and his rebels pose to humans. And to do that, we couldn’t allow all of our characters to make it out safely," he said.

Secret Invasion failed to meet the high expectations of Marvel fans, with factors like the controversial killing of a beloved character and subpar production values contributing to dissatisfaction. Concept artist Jeffrey Reed revealed that tight deadlines during reshoots may have affected the show's quality, with half-day or one-day deadlines leading to loose work. Via his ArtStation account, Secret Invasion artist Jeffrey Reed confirmed scenes for the Disney+ show were completed when deadlines were "tight" due to them being a part of reshoots for the Ali Selim-directed title. Reed's confirmation comes amid reports Secret Invasion went through four months of reshoots before the miniseries eventually made its way onto Disney's streaming service this past May. "Had the pleasure of working on Marvel Secret Invasion with Frank Walsh (Pd). It was the reshoot leg though so deadlines were tight. Secret Invasion reveals that Rhodey was replaced by a Skrull, bringing into question his role in past events like Infinity War and Endgame. Injuries sustained by Rhodey in Civil War will play a major part in the story of Armor Wars, and his search for missing Stark tech may lead him to White Vision. Rhodey's memory of his last moments with Tony Stark will be the battle between the Avengers, and he will have to learn of Stark's death in Armor Wars, making the return of White Vision a welcome possibility.
One major missing Avenger could return in Marvel Studios' upcoming Armor Wars after the events of Secret Invasion. Don Cheadle has portrayed James "Rhodey" Rhodes since 2010's Iron Man 2, taking over the role from Terrence Howard in Iron Man. Since then, Rhodey has been pivotal to Tony Stark's MCU adventures, but in the wake of Iron Man's demise in Avengers: Endgame,...

Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion has become the latest streaming series to be satirized by Screen Junkies' Honest Trailers format.
The popular YouTube channel recently released the Honest Trailer for Secret Invasion, which wastes no time addressing how some fans, as well as Disney CEO Bob Iger, believe the Marvel Cinematic Universe has suffered from overexposure brought on by the Disney+ series. The video continues by asking Marvel to "pause" the MCU "until their next batch of Chrises is ready," poking fun at franchise leads Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt. The Honest Trailer also calls attention to the AI-generated titles ("Gross") and how the series is the latest in a line of Hollywood projects about popular heroes now being depicted as old and washed up, referencing Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Michael Keaton's Batman in The Flash, among others. Secret Invasion director Ali Selim opened up about what he views as the most important component of the show: Nick Fury's marriage.
In an interview with Marvel, the filmmaker discussed what he wanted to achieve by delving into Fury and Varra's relationship. "I don't think it's a little bit of a love story. I think it's a big love story. And I think it's Nick exploring his love for a lot of people," Selim explained. The most challenging one is the fact that he fell in love and married a Skrull and battling his sense of other, living as a Black man in America and living as an aging man in a more fit world."

Secret Invasion received complaints for its pacing and uneven episodes, with the season finale lacking emotion and criticized for its CGI fight scene. The show's shortest runtime record suggests it could have been better suited as a movie, allowing for more focused storytelling and higher production quality. Adapting Secret Invasion into an Avengers movie could have captured the scope and paranoia of the comics while increasing the threat of the Skrulls, but this didn't happen.

Amid the negative reactions to the much-talked-about Super Skrull showdown during Secret Invasion's final episode, Emilia Clarke reveals her excitement about shooting the scene and getting to do her "superhero pose."
Through their official TikTok account, Marvel released a behind-the-scenes sitdown featuring Clarke and co-star Ben Mendelsohn, with Clarke delving into the largely derided fight scene between her character G'iah and rebel Skrull leader Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir). The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich promised to give fans “the most heroic sendoff” in season three for departing star Henry Cavill.
Instead, the Netflix fantasy’s eagerly anticipated final three episodes of the season, released last week, literally had Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia recovering from injuries in bed (before rousing himself for a final fight). The season’s IMDb scores plummeted and its final two episodes earned the lowest numbers of the entire series. Some critics were harsh, as well: Cavill “deserves a better exit,” wrote Av Club, while The Verge called the season “a wasted opportunity.”
Meanwhile, over on Disney+, Marvel’s Secret Invasion has been similarly ripped as one of the popular studio’s biggest stumbles. It’s finale earned just a 7 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, and headlines dubbed the project starring Samuel L. Jackson “the worst-reviewed Marvel project ever.”

The following contains major spoilers for the series finale of Secret Invasion, "Home," now streaming on Disney+.
Secret Invasion director Ali Selim discussed his choice to end the Disney+ and Marvel Studios limited series on a somewhat bleak note.
Selim was asked about the decision to make the final part of Secret Invasion's closing chapter -- wherein President Ritson declares war on the Skrulls -- a dark one while speaking to Entertainment Weekly. "Well, I think that Ritson could say, 'The Skrulls are welcome here,' which is a great message, but not great drama," he replied. "Nick Fury has to have some opposition as we leave the series. Even though he's come to terms with it, I don't know that it's realistic to think that everybody has come to terms with it. I think it's important to show that a sense of other can create a sense of conflict.

Secret Invasion's revelation that Rhodey was a Skrull in Avengers: Endgame takes away from the emotional impact of Iron Man's death scene. The moment is not completely ruined as Tony died thinking his best friend was there for him, even if it was actually a Skrull impersonating Rhodey. The presence of other key characters during Tony's death like Peter Parker, Pepper Potts, Steve Rogers, and Thor lessens the impact of Secret Invasion's Rhodey reveal.

In 2007, at my very first San Diego Comic-Con, I witnessed the entertainment industry change in a matter of minutes, when Jon Favreau debuted the first footage of Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man.”
At the time, Marvel Studios was an independent company banking its entire future on a third-tier character played by an untested star, an effort that many in the industry and the fan community alike regarded with deep skepticism (if not outright derision). The film had just finished shooting, so the footage only had one real VFX shot of Iron Man suit flying alongside jet fighters; the rest of the preview relied on Downey’s charms and in-camera footage of him as Tony Stark in...

Selim confirmed that Smulders and Mendelsohn remained upbeat when it came time to film the deaths of their respective characters, Maria Hill and Talos, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. As the season finale of Secret Invasion came to a dramatic end, eagle-eyed viewers were keen to notice a detail that astounded them. The viewers were intrigued to see the rescued, non-Skrull Rhodey dressed in a medical gown. Fans immediately understood the importance of this outfit because it was the very same gown he wore after the catastrophic airport fight in Captain America: Civil War, which led to his paralysis.
As the puzzle pieces began to fall into place, a startling theory emerged with unfortunate implications. This would mean that some of Rhodey's most important and emotional moments in the MCU, especially in terms of his relationship with Tony Stark and his role in both the Avengers movies, were attributed to a Skrull rather than the original Rhodey.

Emilia Clarke, who plays the G'iah in the series Secret Invasion, recently shared her excitement about filming the show's finale. In a June interview with Marvel.com, she revealed that the best day she ever had on set was during the filming of a fight scene between her character, G'iah, and Gravik. Clarke had a blast performing stunts, especially when she was suspended on wires to make it look like she was flying. She compared the experience to riding theme park attractions like trapeze or roller coasters, and couldn't stop giggling throughout the shoot. She said:
"There was a part of this fight where I was on a [stunt] chariot. Then I was doing all the running, but I wasn't actually running. I was on a chariot, which was being pulled by a car. And then my favorite bit is they put me on the wires!
I literally was like, this is my best day ever.

To say that fans weren’t happy with the finale of “Secret Invasion” would be an understatement. Honestly, people just really weren’t all that interested in much about the latest Marvel Studios series. Taking that a bit further, you could argue that fans are much less enthusiastic about any of the Marvel Studios TV shows that have been premiering on Disney+. But that’s a discussion for another time.

Ali Selim, the director of Marvel's Secret Invasion, explains the significance of the finale's most crucial scene.
Selim, who worked as an executive producer and directed all six episodes, told Variety the series made him think deeply about the idea of "other." He explored how we face the idea of "other" in our lives and communities, and the challenges of unusual love and acceptance. Selim said, "Ultimately, the scene that I pushed for and really enjoyed is when Nick Fury kisses Varra at the end. That is releasing the sense of 'other' in himself that has been a constraint or a prejudice. It’s opening up the world to conversation, if not all out love and embracing. It’s the very last scene of the series, and it really feels like that’s what it’s about."

Director Ali Selim says he considers his storytelling work in the Disney+ show Secret Invasion a conversation with the audience and expects mixed reviews as part of creative dialogue.
Selim dished out insights on Secret Invasion just as the Disney+ show wrapped up the season with a climax of reveals. In an interview with Variety, the director comments on the overall mixed reviews of the series from both the fan base and critics. "I don’t feel bad about mixed reviews," he said. "If you had unanimously good reviews, every movie would gross $10 billion, trillion dollars, right? [Projects] resonate with different people at different times for different reasons, and Marvel has a very devoted — even rabid — fan base who have expectations and when their expectations aren’t fulfilled, they move in the other direction; they give it a thumbs down."

Drawing inspiration from the 2008 Marvel Comics event of the same name, Secret Invasion centers around Nick Fury, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. Unlike many other Marvel productions, the show breaks away from the norm by not featuring any post-credit scenes. In an interview with TVLine, Director Ali Selim addressed this decision by explaining that it was ultimately up to Kevin Feige and the MCU team. While post-credit scenes are often used to set up or conclude storylines, Selim felt that the series had effectively wrapped up Nick Fury's internal struggle with aging, purpose, and identity. He expressed uncertainty about the potential projects the MCU might launch alongside the show, which could have influenced the absence of such scenes. He said:
"That's a good question for Kevin Feige and the MCU at large. I know that they use these movies and series to launch things, or to wrap things up, and...
