For the last two decades, Timothy Olyphant has established himself as one of the small screen's most exciting and wildly-entertaining leading men, with the charming actor having famously starred in two of television's greatest Western masterpieces: Deadwood andJustified. From 2004 to 2006, Olyphant appeared alongside Ian McShane in the HBO knockout as Sheriff Seth Bullock, who, along with the cunning saloon owner Al Swearengen, tried to keep crime and chaos down in the dangerous streets of the titular town.
Deadwood has been hailed as one of the finest TV shows of all time and won eight Emmys and a Golden Globe Award, and in 2010, Olyphant followed up the stellar performance when he was cast as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in the engrossing neo-Western crime drama Justified, which was also lauded during its stellar six season run and left quite the impression on audiences. Let's take a closer look at Justified...

2007s An American Crime contains some of the most horrific abuse ever seen on-screen, and its made all the more disturbing due to being based on a true story. Directed by Tommy OHaver and starring Elliot Page and Catherine Keener, An American Crime tells the story of Sylvia Likens (Page), an Indianapolis teen who finds herself in the care of a family friend, Gertrude Baniszewski (Keener). However, shortly after arriving in the Baniszewski home, Sylvia finds herself subjected to a campaign of brutal torture at the hands of Gertrude, Gertrudes children, and many local neighborhood kids.
An American Crime is nothing short of disturbing. Whats even more disturbing, however, is the true crime on which its based. It would be unfair to say that An American Crime pulled no punches in its depiction of the abuse and murder of the real Sylvia Likens, because in reality it pulled several. The...

Hollywood is home to many experts on counter-programming but insiders behind the new film Reagan, which had its world premiere Tuesday at the town’s most iconic theater, insist that it was merely a coincidence that the event bumped up against the Democratic National Convention.
“It wasn’t intended but what the heck, that’s awesome,” offered filmmaker Sean McNamara with a smile, adding that despite missing the night’s program that featured onetime White House residents Barack and Michelle Obama, he would be watching clips once he got home. “I always watch it all day if I’m not working to try and get a sense of what everybody is saying, both Republicans and Democrats.”
McNamara, who pointed out that he’s a registered Democrat, said people are sometimes too quick to link politics to movies when sometimes those ties don’t tell the full story. “Look at the movie Lincoln,...

Classic Western themes of justice and individuality remain relevant in modern TV series like Yellowstone. Justified, a Neo-Western crime drama, borrowed heavily from the themes and styles of classic Western cinema. Shows like Westworld and Preacher mix Western genres with contemporary themes like technology and supernatural elements.
While the Western genre may not be as popular as it once was in past decades, it has maintained its appeal on the small screen through several Western series set in modern times. The themes and tropes of the Western genre always dealt with timeless concepts of justice, freedom, and individuality, and these have remained just as relevant in contemporary television. From classic Western adventures set in the present day to Neo-Westerns that played with the genre, viewers may not even be aware of just how many modern television series were influenced by classic Western cinema.

The following contains spoilers for Fallout, now streaming on Prime Video
Walton Goggins ensured a long-awaited Justified reunion on the Fallout set. When Fallout was looking for an actor to play Honcho, Goggins immediately recommended Mykelti Williamson. The Western-themed series was the perfect place for actors Goggins and Williamson to reunite.
Nearly 10 years after the show ended, Fallout brought two members of the Justified cast back together. Justified was a Western drama that began in 2010 and ran until 2015. It was revived in Justified: City Primeval in 2023, though much of the cast did not return. The original show starred Timothy Olyphant, Nick Searcy, and Walton Goggins, while Mykelti Williamson was a recurring cast member. Goggins was later selected as a lead actor for Prime Video's Fallout adaptation.
As an integral member of Fallout's cast, Goggins had some sway with the producers. In an interview with IndieWire, he revealed that he...

27 Dresses star Katherine Heigl's other rom-coms like The Ugly Truth (2009) and Life as We Know It (2010) follow similar lead character dynamics. After 27 Dresses, Heigl went on to star in more wedding-centered rom-coms like The Big Wedding (2013) and Jenny's Wedding (2015). Rom-coms like My Best Friend's Wedding and Made of Honor share the same trope as 27 Dresses, in which the lead character pines after the bride or groom of a wedding in which they are the maid of honor.
There are plenty of great rom-coms like 2008's 27 Dresses starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden. Directed by Anne Fletcher, 27 Dresses follows Jane (Heigl), the walking cliché of "always a bridesmaid, never a bride," having been the former 27 times. After her carefree younger sister Tess (Malin Åkerman) suddenly becomes engaged to the man she's secretly in love with (who's also her boss), Jane struggles emotionally with her wedding planning...

Cast Away is praised for its realism in depicting survival hardships and scenarios, particularly in the protagonist's search for water on a deserted island. The movie received positive reviews, with a high critical score and strong box office performance, making it one of the top-grossing films of 2000. Tom Hanks delivers a powerful performance, earning an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of a survivor who forms a bond with an imaginary friend named Wilson. The movie explores themes of willpower, hope, and friendship.
Robert Zemeckis’ classic survival drama Cast Away gets high praise from a survival expert, who explains why it's so accurate. The 2000 survival movie follows Charles "Chuck" Noland, a FedEx systems analyst who fights to survive after his plane crashes on a deserted island in the South Pacific. Tom Hanks portrays the time-obsessed FedEx analyst who troubleshoots across countries, while Helen Hunt plays Kelly Lovett, Chuck’s girlfriend.

Warning: Major spoilers for Justified: City Primeval's finale "The Question" below!
Justified: City Primeval's finale 'The Question' ends with the shocking return of a past villain and a major cliffhanger. Raylan's retirement might be short-lived as he receives word of Boyd Crowder's prison escape. Boyd's return risks undoing his perfect ending in Justified and raises the question of whether Justified: City Primeval Season 2 will happen.

"The Question" picks up moments after the previous episode, with Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) and Clement (Boyd Holbrook) being driven by the vengeful Albanians. In revenge for his attack on Skendeer (Alexander Pobutsky), they trap Mansell in the vault, with Raylan being the one to close the door. Despite his hatred of Mansell, this doesn't sit right with Raylan, who returns the next night.

This post contains spoilers for the finale of "Justified: City Primeval."
When "Justified: City Primeval" signed off last night, the limited series finale was expected to be the final word on Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant). After all, fans of the straight-shooting, contemplative modern cowboy got six seasons with the character, plus a surprise bonus in the form of the revival series -- an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story that didn't originally feature Raylan. And isn't that enough? Wouldn't it be greedy for us to ask for more time in this stylish, thrilling world?
Not according to the show itself. In an exhilarating surprise epilogue, "Justified: City Primeval" ended with a fantastic cliffhanger, bringing crime kingpin (and Raylan's ex-friend) Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) back into the fray in typical over-the-top fashion and putting an immediate question mark on the end of Raylan's early retirement. The final scene,...

John Wick isn’t the only character willing to go on a killing spree after someone takes his dog off the board. In Rlje Films’s Muzzle trailer, Jake Rosser (Aaron Eckhart) is an elite agent grieving the loss of his partner. In Muzzle, “LAPD K-9 officer Jake Rosser (Aaron Eckhart) and his K-9 partner Ace battle it out on the streets of LA when they get into a shootout with local drug dealers, and Ace is shot dead,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “In a moment of crisis, Jake tries to get an Emt to look at Ace and assaults him when he refuses, resulting in him taking leave from the force. Fans of the FX series Justified were fortunate enough to get six prodigious seasons of one of the best neo-Westerns ever put on television from 2010-2015. The show’s critical success was in no small part due to the stellar supporting cast throughout its run. Fans not only gravitated towards Timothy Olyphant’s Kentucky-fried charm as the no-nonsense Raylan Givens, but found a connection with the men and women Raylan worked with, the women he loved, and the larger-than-life outlaws he came across.
It will surprise many to hear that Justified: City Primeval barely even mentions Kentucky, or the characters that were a part of Raylan’s life for those six years. Kentucky is far behind Raylan, and that includes his long term fraternal-nemesis, Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) who isn’t a part of this limited series. There is no mention of Art (Nick Searcy), Tim (Jacob Pitts) or Rachel...

Whether it’s Hollywood’s inability to spawn new blockbuster icons or the entertainment industry’s commitment to placating an audience with an insatiable desire for nostalgia, the summer of 2023 has taken on a distinct Twilight-of-the-Action-Gods feeling.
The season started with Arnold Schwarzenegger doing the streaming equivalent of a ’90s Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, now with meditations on fatherhood and approaching retirement, in Netflix’s Fubar. Then Harrison Ford added meditations on godfatherhood and approaching retirement in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The only reason Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One isn’t about fatherhood and approaching retirement is a fear that if Tom Cruise were ever to actually confront, or even address, his own aging, the metaphorical dream factory would implode.
Into this fray of graying tough guy icons strides Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan Givens. For 78 episodes on FX’s Justified, Raylan Givens was a throwback personification of anger-fueled masculinity,...

Plot: Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook), aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again.

Having been off the air for about eight years now, the neo-noir world of "Justified" is coming back to television with "Justified: City Primeval," a miniseries based on Elmore Leonard's 1980 novel. The Emmy Award-winning original series, which ran for over six seasons, starred Timothy Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, and featured a supporting cast including Joelle Carter, Nick Searcy, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel, and Walton Goggins.
"City Primeval" takes place many years after the 2015 series finale, with Raylan having left his life in Kentucky for Miami, where he's committed to raising his teenage daughter, Willa (now played by Vivian Olyphant), while trying to juggle his Marshal duties. But an incident on a Florida highway prompts a trip to Detroit, where he faces a new challenge in the deadly Clement Mansell (Boyd Holbrook), also known as "The Oklahoma Wildman." Stars: Nicolas Cage, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Noah Le Gros, Kerry Knuppe, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick Searcy, Abraham Benrubi, Clint Howard | Written by Carl W. Lucas | Directed by Brett Donowho
Incredible as it may seem, this is Nicolas Cage’s first western, although he clearly enjoyed shooting it, because he’s already done another one (Butcher’s Crossing). Essentially a knock-off version of True Grit, The Old Way isn’t especially overwhelming in terms of plot and direction, but it’s eminently watchable all the same, thanks to strong onscreen chemistry between Cage and young co-star Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
The film begins with a prologue sequence, in which grizzled gun-for-hire Colton Briggs shoots and kills almost everyone during an attempted hanging, including the man he was supposed to be rescuing in the first place. Twenty years later, Briggs (now sadly sans moustache) has hung up his guns in favour of raising his young...

The Old Way is a Western directed by Brett Donowho, written by Carl W. Lucas starring Nicolas Cage.
Yes, Nicolas Cage will (probably) work with no breaks this year and already has premieres ahead such as Renfield (in which he will be Dracula with his usual mayhem). Meanwhile, we can see him here in a Western which although it might not go down in the History of Film, is decent enough as far as production and ambience.
And, also has an incomparable philosophical subject: Nicolas Cage wears a Stetson!

Justified: City Primeval's villain has been revealed to be a supremely dangerous killer. The reboot series, which is coming to FX later this year, is a follow-up to the neo-Western show Justified, which is adapted from the stories of Elmore Leonard and ran on the network for six seasons from 2010 through 2015. It followed Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, whose old-fashioned approach to justice rankles with the brass and causes him to be reassigned to the Eastern District of Kentucky Marshal's Office. The ensemble cast of the series also included Nick Searcy, Jacob Pitts, Erica Tazel, Joelle Carter, Natalie Zea, Walton Goggins, and Jere Burns.

The Western genre is welcoming another iconic performer to its midst with Nicolas Cage in The Old West. The film stars the Oscar winner as Colton Briggs, a former ruthless gunfighter who finds his peaceful life interrupted when his wife is killed by someone from his past, putting him and their daughter on a path for revenge.

Nicolas Cage is a gunslinger with a fatherly side in a new clip from the Western movie The Old Way. Cage has tackled just about every genre over the course of his long career, including action, comedies, thrillers, horror and even superhero movies. But amazingly, the one movie type Cage never got around to over the decades was the Western. That’s all changing now though, as the actor is finally set to star in his first cowboy film, a revenge story called The Old Way.
Cage’s legions of devoted fans were in fact treated to the first trailer for The Old Way back in November. "Tell me the names of the men who did this." Saban Films + Lionsgate have revealed the official trailer for The Old Way, a western action thriller from a filmmaker named Brett Donowho (that can't be his real last name?). The marketing describes this as Nicolas Cage's first ever Western, which might just be true? Why not. An old gunslinger and his daughter must face the consequences of his past, when the son of a man he murdered years ago arrives to take his revenge. Another typical Western story involving a man with a past who must fight off those who came after him when they find him. Sounds like so many other films. Starring Nicolas Cage and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, with Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Kerry Knuppe, plus Nick Searcy & Shiloh Fernandez. This doesn't look so bad, doesn't look so good either. At least Cage has a glorious mustache!

Kirstie Alley defended herself today from blowback on a prior tweet, wherein she called out Hollywood for refusing to work with President Donald Trump supporters.
Alley’s initial tweet was in response to the attempt by Will & Grace stars Debra Messing and Eric McCormack to get momentum behind compiling a list of attendees for a mid-September fundraiser for Donald Trump. The tweets by them were seen as a prelude to doxing and/or blacklisting anyone attending, a move some saw as akin to the tactics of former Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy’s hearings of the 1950s, wherein various members of Hollywood were investigated for Communist ties and subsequently blacklisted.
Alley on Friday tweeted, “I refuse to be part of the Hollywood asshats who can’t see that “Not working with Republicans” is as stupid and Nasty as “Refusing to do business with gay people”..Stop Acting above the Fray ya damn hypocrites…...
