ABC comedy Fisk, created, written, directed by and starring Kitty Flanagan, follows Helen Tudor-Fisk, a corporate contract lawyer forced to take a job at a shabby suburban law firm specialising in wills and probate.

Helen (Flanagan) is not good with people. When her personal and professional lives implode spectacularly in Sydney, Helen runs home to Melbourne and takes a job at the suburban Gruber & Gruber. Helen is brought in to replace Roz Gruber (Julia Zemiro), a recently-suspended solicitor who has temporarily appointed herself the office manager. No longer allowed to sit in with clients, Roz now has nothing else to do but get all up in Helen’s business.

Ray Gruber (Sheargold), Roz’s brother, hires Helen in a fit of laziness but also because Helen is a ‘mature lady’ which has proven to be the preferred option for clients who are grieving. Unfortunately, Helen is not that kind of mature lady.

Tristram Baumber studied English and creative writing at the University of Wollongong with the aim of making a living as a screenwriter.

That was 20 years ago. Since then his life and career have taken several twists and turns – but he is now reaping the rewards of persistence and determination.

“It took me a long time to get good at writing,” he tells If. The turning point came in March 2017 when Aquarius Films’ Polly Staniford and Angie Fielder hired him as an in-house writer.

He had been working with the producers on several projects including a rom-com feature and they were able to put him on staff thanks to a grant from Screen Australia’s Enterprise People program.

Caitlin Yeo and Matteo Zingales each won two awards at the annual annual Screen Music Awards staged by Apra Amcos and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (Agcs) at the City Recital Hall in Sydney on Monday night.

Yeo won feature film score of the year and best soundtrack album for The Butterfly Tree, Priscilla Cameron’s movie about an ex-burlesque queen (Melissa George) who puts a curse on single dad Al (Ewen Leslie) and his son Fin (Ed Oxenbould).

The president of the Agsc, Yeo previously won feature film score of the year for Kim Mordant’s The Rocket in 2013.

Matteo Zingales was rewarded for his work on Hoodlum Entertainment’s Harrow as best television theme and for his collaboration with Antony Partos on Bunya Productions’ Mystery Road, which was deemed best music for a miniseries or telemovie.

The musical partnership between Matteo Zingales and Antony Partos has served them well, earning them four combined nominations for year’s Screen Music Awards, to be staged jointly by Apra Amcos and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (Agsc) in November.

Together Zingales and Partos are nominated for Best Music for a Mini-Series or Telemovie for Wake in Fright and Mystery Road, and both Feature Film Score of the Year and Best Soundtrack Album for HBO film Fahrenheit 451.

Separately, Zingales received an additional two nominations for Best Television Theme and Best Music for a Television Series for his work Harrow, and Partos is also nominated for Best Music for a Documentary for The Director and The Jedi.

Competing against Zingales and Partos for Best Feature Film Score of the Year are Caitlin Yeo for The Butterfly Tree, Christopher Gordon for Ladies in Black, and Richard Pleasance for Brothers’ Nest.

A fourth season of Easy Tiger Productions’ Doctor Doctor, the third series of Endemol Shine Australia’s Australian Ninja Warrior and the sixth edition of Esa’s Married at First Sight will screen on the Nine Network next year.

Among other shows highlighted at the network’s Upfronts in Sydney were the perennially popular The Block, season 8 of ITV Studio Australia’s The Voice and the second editions of Wtfn Entertainment’s Paramedics and Nine’s This Time Next Year.

Also renewed are ITV’s Talkin’ ’Bout Your Generation, Nine’s 20 to One, Travel Guides and Australian Crime Stories, and Screentime’s Rbt.

Meanwhile ITV Studios Australia’s Love Island Australia will move from 9Go! to Nine as host Sophie Monk introduces 10 singletons who will play the ultimate game of love and lust.

Goodrem will play Izzy Dreyfus, the new reading recovery teacher at Nepean South Primary School.

House Husbands.

House Husbands season five begins filming in Melbourne this week.

Gary Sweet, Firass Dirani, Rhys Muldoon, Julia Morris, Natalie Saleeba, Jane Allsop, Louise Siversen and Denise Scott are all back, and will be joined by Packed to the Rafters alum Hugh Sheridan.

Sheridan will play Nick Gazecki, a music teacher who makes an enemy of his new neighbour Lewis (Sweet).

Other new additions include Roy Billing and Australian musical theatre legend Nancye Hayes.
