11 Years Ago, The MCU Warned Exactly How Dangerous The Dark Avengers Could Be
Image
The Dark Avengers might have a future in the MCU, but Marvel's movie timeline has already offered a stark warning of how dangerous they could be to their heroic counterparts. That precedent was established way back in Phase 2, when Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark dealt with the fallout of Loki's attack on New York in Iron Man 3. With the MCU still in its post-Avengers period, and no active superhero team protecting Earth, the need for protection is already leading to something darker than Nick Fury's Avengers Initiative.

In 2025, the first real Avengers replacement team will debut in the MCU, in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. That will go hand-in-hand with Captain America: Brave New World's introduction of a brand new Avengers team, potentially inciting another hero vs hero conflict of ideologies for the first time since 2016's Civil War event. Crucially, the MCU has already...

Killmonger Voted by Fans as the 5th Best MCU Villain
Image
Killmonger so far appeared in 2 MCU projects (not counting ‘What….If?’) but according to recent polls, he’s been voted as the 5th best villain to ever grace the MCU screens.

Killmonger’s greatness as a villain lies in his multifaceted character traits. His motivations are purely derived from personal and systemic oppression, as he aims to use Wakanda’s resources for global liberation. He has a relatively sympathetic backstory, and it certainly helps that he was portrayed with depth and emotion, by Michael B. Jordan’s charismatic performance.

The results are taken from Ranker’s poll of MCU villains, with 53 names on the list, I have to admit I was surprised by some choices. Thanos naturally took the number 1 spot, and I’m not sure whether this will change, even with the introduction of a new villain. The second place went to Loki, despite Hiddleston recently admitting that he...

Fans Vote Killmonger as the 5th Best MCU Villain
Image
Killmonger has appeared in two MCU projects (excluding ‘What If?’), and recent polls have voted him as the 5th best villain in MCU history. His greatness as a villain comes from his multifaceted character, with motivations rooted in personal and systemic oppression. His relatively sympathetic backstory adds depth, and Michael B. Jordan’s charismatic performance brings him to life.

The rankings are from Ranker’s poll of MCU villains, which included 53 names. Some choices surprised me. Thanos predictably claimed the top spot, and it’s uncertain if this will change despite new villains. Loki came in second, although Hiddleston has hinted he doesn’t see him as a true villain.

Further through the rankings, Ultron claimed the third spot, a notable feat considering his single appearance. Hela secured fourth place, also standing as the sole female villain in the top 10. Helmut Zemo landed sixth, followed by Red Skull in seventh,...

Scariest Henchmen In MCU Movies & TV Shows
Image
From Kang the Conqueror to the Mad Titan Thanos, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of terrific supervillains who threaten the very fate of the universe and push the Avengers to their limits. However, the main villains of the MCU aren't the only antagonists who deserve credit.

Many of the McU's best villains would have struggled without the help of their menacing henchmen. From evil aliens to skilled assassins, several of the McU's secondary antagonists have proven to be especially terrifying, adding a new element of danger to their individual MCU projects.

Iron Man: Every Injury To Tony Stark’s Left Arm In The MCU
Image
Tony Stark, the man behind Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), sustained several major injuries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but no part of his body was targeted more than Iron Man's left arm. In fact, the injuries surrounding Iron Man's left arm became a lingering Easter egg throughout the franchise — tying into the major twist that ended his character arc. Even with the rollout of MCU Phase 5 reminding viewers that it's been a whole phase of the MCU since Iron Man died, his legacy ensures he remains one of the most heavily discussed Avengers.

Debates around the meaning of all the Iron Man's left arm injuries haven't abated. With the emphasis on Tony's left arm, there was speculation that the injuries were hints at Iron Man's fate ahead of Avengers: Endgame. More specifically, fan theories linked the left arm to Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet. Though the theories almost hit the mark,...

‘The Deep House’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: James Jagger, Camille Rowe, Eric Savin, Alexis Servaes, Anne Claessens, Carolina Massey | Written and Directed by Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury

The Deep House is the latest film by French filmmakers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury. This comes after Kandisha which, while better receive than Leatherface, still failed to bring them the acclaim they received for their first two films, Inside and Livide. Can this rather ingenious-sounding twist on the haunted house film turn things around for them?

Ben and Tina (Camille Rowe; Knuckledust) are YouTubers whose speciality is videos of creepy old abandoned buildings. When we first meet them they’re prowling around the remains of an allegedly haunted Ukrainian asylum where a nurse poisoned her patients. Three months later they’re in France, about to do something very different, an underwater exploration. When their intended location turns out to be a crowded local beach they need to find somewhere new to shoot.

‘The Deep House’ Review: Submerged Influencers Try to Escape a Watery Grave
Image
Gallic horror specialists Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury stirred considerable excitement 14 years ago with their debut feature, the alarming home-invasion thriller “Inside.” They’ve struggled to duplicate that success since, and their English-language franchise bow “Leatherface” a decade later was poorly received, if somewhat undeservedly so.

But they rekindle some enthusiasm with “The Deep House,” which was released in France this past June and now reaches U.S. audiences via premium cabler Epix, as well as digital platforms. This is a simple haunted-house tale, albeit with one complicated twist: The house in question is 100 feet below a lake’s surface. That gimmick certainly adds a distinctive ambiance to a creepy tale, in addition to making the handsomely photographed film an admirable technical feat. It’s a pity U.S. audiences won’t be seeing it on the big screen, where its clammy atmospherics would be most vivid.

Young couple English...

'Gotham Central': Premature Casting Call!
by Paul Montgomery

Yesterday we reported on Ed Brubaker's latest comments with regard to a "Gotham Central" television series, a project long sought by fans, studio execs and the book's creators. Despite all that interest and the heap of gauntlets tossed down by Disney and Marvel, the project has also been deferred for just as long thanks to Batman's loftier exploits in Hollywood and Christopher Nolan's desire to stay on message. With Nolan's trilogy on the shelf and "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." launching this evening, fervor for a potential DC procedural has crested higher than ever.

Though Zack Snyder's fast-tracked "Superman vs. Batman" could put yet another damper on that "Gotham Central" green light, the hope of seeing Montoya, Allen, Sawyer and Driver on screen begs for speculation, especially in the afterglow of the Emmy Awards gala and the reminder that we bask in a golden age of television.

James Badge Dale
A Salute to James Badge Dale, the American Sean Bean
James Badge Dale
James Badge Dale plays the hero in The Lone Ranger. He’s Dan Reid, a Texas Ranger with scruffy facial hair and pained sky-blue eyes. He’s soft-spoken but quick with a one-liner, half jocky frat-boy and half wounded warrior. He makes fun of his little brother but clearly loves his little brother, and when he sets off on his third or fourth dangerous mission of the day, he says goodbye to his wife and child with a mixture of apology (because he’s a man who can’t help how much he likes his dangerous job) and tremendous care...

Exclusive: James Badge Dale Talks Coldblood and Spoilers in Iron Man 3
James Badge Dale
James Badge Dale talks about taking on the role of Coldblood in Iron Man 3, currently playing in theaters everywhere

After making his film debut at just 12 years of age in 1990's Lord of the Flies, James Badge Dale returned to the craft with a string of roles in the early 2000s, appearing on 24 as Chase Edmunds, Rescue Me as Timo Gavin, and The Black Donnellys as Samson. He had a breakout year in 2010, starring in the HBO mini-series The Pacific and the brilliant but short-lived AMC show Rubicon, which lead to impressive turns in The Conspirator, Shame, The Grey, and Flight. This versatile actor returns to the big screen once again in Iron Man 3 as the villainous Eric Savin a.k.a. Coldblood, the Extremis-enhanced soldier who does the dirty work for Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian. I recently had the chance to speak with James Badge Dale about his bad-ass bald look,...

James Badge Dale Talks Iron Man 3, His Audition Process, the Character’s Physicality, World War Z, The Lone Ranger, and More
From director Shane Black, Iron Man 3 has certainly gotten the blockbuster movie season off to a pretty incredible start. This time out, brilliant billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), aka Iron Man, faces a terrifying enemy, known as The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley), whose reach knows no bounds, and he must rely on his own instincts to protect those that he loves. During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, actor James Badge Dale, who plays Extremis agent and all-around bad-ass Eric Savin, talked about how he came to be a part of the film, having to read pages from a cop movie for his audition, due to secrecy, how he finally gut a full script after negotiations for the role were finished, what it means to him to get to be a part of the Iron Man franchise, how he viewed Savin, and what he wanted to...

'Iron Man 3': James Badge Dale Explains Why He Became Savin
When James Badge Dale finally took the role of the "muscle" in "Iron Man 3," it was a pretty big deal for the actor. He admits now that he has had plenty of opportunities to star in superhero movies, but it was only the role of Eric Savin that snagged his attention.

"I've actually passed on even auditioning for almost every superhero movie I've been sent because I didn't think I could play someone in a suit," he told Movies.com. "I don't want to be in a cape or wear a codpiece. So this was the absolute best of both worlds. I get to be in a superhero movie where my suit is actually just a regular suit."

Well, it's true that Dale didn't need to wear a suit in "Iron Man 3," but apparently there was another big draw that made this film his first superhero movie. Dale...

Iron Man 3 Special Effects Video Reels
Method Studios and Digital Domain have both released some videos showing off the visual effects they did for Shane Black's Iron Man 3. The clips they released feature scenes with the Iron Patriot armor, Air Force One, and Eric Savin taking down a water tower.

I'm actually pretty surprised by how many people didn't like Iron Man 3. I thought it was great, and I'm noticing that people either loved it or hated it. There's not much middle ground. Regardless of what you thought of the story, the special effects ended up being really good as always. I enjoy watching videos like this that show the process of how they were completed. They always end up being surprising. For example, I had no idea that James Badge Dale wasn't actually wearing the Iron Patriot suit in the scene they show in the video below.

Iron Man 3 Character Photos and Descriptions
Marvel has released a set of Iron Man 3 character photos, and each one comes with a little description of who that character is. They include new images of James Badge Dale as Eric Savin and Stephanie Szostak as Ellen Brandt. There are also descriptions for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), Dr. Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall), Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), and The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).

Brandt is a facially scarred Extremis soldier/assassin. A physically enhanced woman with deep-seated anger and a sadistic streak, Brandt enjoys using her exceptional strength to hurt and maim her enemies.

Savin is Killian’s main henchman and the muscle behind the Extremis group. He is intimidating both in size and strength and is a stone-cold killer, willing to commit any act that Killian demands, no matter how heinous.

Happy is the trusted...

Iron Man 3 TV Spot #12 Features First Look at the Villain Eric Savin
This twelfth and latest TV spot for Iron Man 3 offers us our first look at James Badge Dale as the villain Eric Savin a.k.a. Coldblood. In the spot, you'll see him all doped up on the Extremis technology. It seriously looks like the guy will be able to breathe fire! Marvel President Kevin Feige recently talked about the character saying,

He works for Guy Pearce’s character, Aldrich Killian. You don’t know a lot about Savin at first but as the movie unfolds you learn more and more that he is a very frightening individual and he’s somebody that has used Maya Hansen’s technology Extremis for his own ends. He’s somebody who can walk around and seemingly be just sort of an average Joe, but who presents himself with such a cocky confidence that you’re not sure where that’s coming from...

Yet Another (Low-Quality) TV Spot Airs For Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3 - Kevin Feige Discusses the Villain Eric Savin
In all of the trailers and TV spots that have been released for Iron Man 3, one character we haven't really seen very much of is the villain Eric Savin who is played by James Badge Dale. In the comics, the character is a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who later becomes a cyborg villain known as Coldblood. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige sheds some new light on what role this character will play in the movie saying,

James Badge Dale plays a character known as Savin. He works for Guy Pearce’s character, Aldrich Killian. You don’t know a lot about Savin at first but as the movie unfolds you learn more and more that he is a very frightening individual and he’s somebody that has used Maya Hansen’s technology Extremis for his own ends. He’s somebody who can walk around and seemingly be just sort of an average Joe,...

He works for Guy Pearce’s character, Aldrich Killian. Gwyneth Paltrow gets an Iron Man 3 character poster
We've had a good run of Iron Man 3 character posters over the last few weeks, Disney have released what I assume is the last one of this series. They could throw out one for James Badge Dale as bad guy Eric Savin (who I see taking on a henchman role), but considering Gwyneth Paltrow's importance to the movies, and that it hints at Iron Man's fall from grace shown in the first poster of this run, I see this as the the perfect way to bookend it. Synopsis: Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. ‘Iron Man 3′ Begins Filming in China; Wang Xueqi Not Playing Radioactive Man?
The big baddie in Iron Man 3 is, of course, Sir Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, but other villainous sorts from the comics – like Eric Savin (James Badge Dale) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) – are appearing in an integral (if limited) capacity. On the hero’s side, new franchise additions include potential future S.H.I.E.L.D. employee Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall) - but not Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) Avengers ally Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), sadly.

IM3 rumors point to Stephanie Szostak cameoing as Janet van Dyne (Wasp), as lead-in to having an expanded role in The Avengers 2. Similarly, Wang Xueqi is reported to have met with executive producer Dan Mintz about the role of Chen Lu (Radioactive Man) after Andy Lau stepped away from the Marvel project.

Co-writer/director Shane Black ...

'Iron Man 3' Villains: James Badge Dale Is 'The Muscle'
"Iron Man 3" will have three villains at the center of its story. There will be Ben Kingsley's The Mandarin, Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian and James Badge Dale's Eric Savin -- aka "Coldblood" -- but Dale doesn't think that's too many bad guys for one movie.

"Ben Kingsley is the mouthpiece. Guy Pearce is the brain. I'm the muscle," Dale admitted to ShowBiz411. "Being in a big CGI action movie is a weird departure for me."

This isn't the only big budget movie Dale has coming up. In addition to playing Eric Savin, he's also got a role in "World War Z" and will portray Dan Reid in the upcoming "The Lone Ranger." Dale had previously been best known for his work on TV shows like "Rubicon" and "The Pacific," so he said that this type of filmmaking is all new to him.

"I'm more of a...

Iron Man 3 - James Badge Dale Talks about Villains
In a recent interview with ShowBizz411, actor James Badge Dale who plays Eric Savin in Iron Man 3, gave a brief analysis of the villainous characters in the film. He plays one of three villains in the movie. Savin is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army who ends up stepping on a land mine leading him to become a cyborg called Coldblood. Here's what he had to say,

Ben Kingsley (The Mandarin) is the mouthpiece. Guy Pearce (Aldrich Killian) is the brain. I’m the muscle. Being in a big CGI action movie is a weird departure for me. I’m more of a ‘put two guys in a room and we’ll just talk to each other’ style of actor. But I had a lot of fun. I learned to ride a horse. I got to beat up grown men in robot suits and shoot zombies with Brad Pitt.
