After the successful run of Video Game High School, the creators behind the web-series are ready to add "filmmaker" to their stacked resume. Matthew Arnold and Freddie Wong have continued to join forces through their Youtube Channel, RocketJump, and their hit podcast Dungeons and Daddies. Years after experimenting with VFX and delivering content through various mediums, Arnold and Wong are now promoting their directorial debut, We're All Gonna Die. The indie film, which stars Jordan Rodrigues and Ashly Burch, follows a beekeeper overcoming grief and an emotionally distraught Emt as they go on a road trip together to retrieve their belongings, which are being transported across the country by an alien "spike" that the world has gotten used to.

A sci-fi road trip steeped unevenly in grief, “We’re All Gonna Die” introduces its concept in exciting fashion before pushing it far into the background. Its lead performances are occasionally powerful, but writer-directors Freddie Wong and Matthew Arnold — of web-based studio RocketJump — struggle to keep their subject matter sincere, resulting in tonal oddities.
An enormous alien “spike” crashes down on Earth and begins teleporting between locations, a premise the movie establishes deftly through news and social media clips. Twelve years and nearly 1500 “jumps” later — setting the movie somewhere in 2036, though technology has seemingly come to a standstill — mass death and casualty have run so rampant that they’ve become entirely commonplace.
As beekeeper Thalia (Ashly Burch) goes about her day, her parents and in-laws gather to mourn her departed husband and daughter, a loss she seems to ignore, letting the weeds around their tombstones run wild with neglect. As the...

Jacob Vargas, Lisette Olivera, and Jake Austin Walker in Disney+’s ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 10
The season one finale of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History ties up all the treasure-hunting loose ends while dangling the possibility of where season two could go if the streaming service picks up the drama. Episode 10, “Treasure Protectors,” picks up the action right where episode nine ended, with Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) having just stabbed Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) with a sword. We, the audience, now know he’s Salazar – the man we’ve heard about all season but whose identity has just been revealed.
When Billie (Catherine Zetta-Jones) questions Salazar about why he’s there, Rafael (Jacob Vargas) chimes in and reminds her that Salazar is the one who killed her brother. But, of course, Salazar claims Rafael is a liar.
After loading the boat, they set off to find the treasure.

However, Tasha (Zuri Reed) is certain he’s Billie’s mole and attempts to convince Jess of that as she sweeps their apartment for bugs. The action picks up with Jess (Lisette Olivera) deep in thought trying to decipher the message she heard from none other than Elvis Presley (in episode three) as Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode four begins. A knock at the door interrupts her concentration, and it turns out that Ethan’s apologizing via cupcakes.
Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is deep in his own investigation and asks Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues) if he wants to help. It’s a no-go for Ethan; he’d rather spend time with his new girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Jess is getting frustrated that she can’t figure out Elvis’s riddle. Tasha (Zuri Reed) is there helping by talking her through it.

Antonio Cipriano, Zuri Reed, Lisette Olivera, and Jake Austin Walker in ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 3 (Disney/Brian Roedel)
Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode two ended with a very shocked and confused Jess (Lisette Olivera) learning her mother was the author of an unpublished academic paper that provided Liam’s (Jake Austin Walker) dad with information on rare artifacts. Episode three opens with Jess confirming she now believes her mom knew about the treasure.
Jess, Tasha (Zuri Reed), and the gang’s newest member, Liam, show up at Ethan’s place to use Oren’s (Antonio Cipriano) old camcorder. They watch a tape and Jess acts as interpreter, explaining her mom is delivering a lecture about women fleeing as war broke out. They brought with them sacred objects so their history would be preserved.
One brave woman, Malinche, risked her life to save the treasure from the Conquistadors.

Lisette Olivera and Harvey Keitel in ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 1 (Disney/Brian Roedel)
Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History season one episode one, “I’m a Ghost,” introduces the key players in this series spinoff of the popular National Treasure films. But before we meet the new batch of treasure hunters, we pop back in time to 2001.
National Treasure‘s Harvey Keitel reprises his role as Peter Sadusky and is shown recording a message, instructing whoever he’s making it for to only listen to the tape when no one’s around.
Speaking into the recorder, Peter asks if they remember the stories he used to tell them about gold and libraries from Emperor Montezuma’s palaces. We’re treated to a reenactment of a battle that took place in 1519 as Peter describes what went down. Although many people assumed the treasure was a myth, Peter reveals...

The first two episodes of National Treasure: Edge of History are currently available to stream on Disney+ and are a must-watch for fans of the National Treasure movie franchise. Taking place in the same universe as the original films, the series stars Lisette Olivera as 22-year-old Jess Valenzuela. Jess' knack for solving puzzles and impressive attention to detail whisk her into a dangerous hunt for history's long-lost treasure, and it doesn't take long for her group of friends to get caught in the crossfire.
Jordan Rodrigues plays the role of Ethan, Jess' childhood friend who's determined to keep her safe. He has worked on projects such as The Fosters and Light as a Feather, and recently wrapped the indie film Left With Only Rain. Meanwhile, Jake Austin Walker plays Liam, a newcomer to the group, and Antonio Cipriano plays Oren, who is fresh out of a long-term relationship with Jess' best friend.

“National Treasure: Edge of History” is a treat for the fans of the original Nicholas Cage film series. It’s a bona-fide thriller that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. The series takes its viewers on quest anyone with love for history to jump on into. But “Edge of History” comes with an added advantage – “It is about a non-white America. It is about an America that is now what it is,” says Mira Nair, an Executive Producer on the show. Speaking exclusively to Et Canada, Nair explains that the show goes beyond quintessential America and its history and blurs boundaries and ethnicities.
“It (“National Treasure: Edge of History”) is the story of a Mexican girl who was not documented and can completely uncover (mysteries)… It’s about intelligence, really, which I love. The fact that it was really a non-white universe – her friends, who are her family,...

National Treasure: Edge of History introduces Antonio Cipriano as Oren Bradley, one of a new generation of treasure hunters. Set in the same universe, 15 years after the National Treasure movies starring Nicolas Cage, Disney+'s new TV series has the same brand of global adventure that made the films wildly popular.
Oren joins Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera) in a hunt for an ancient treasure tied to the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas. Of course, treasure hunting is no picnic for Jess, Oren, and their friends, Liam (Jake Austin Walker), Tasha (Zuri Reed), and Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues). A rival faction led by Billie Pearce (Catherine Zeta-Jones) also wants the hidden prize and riches.

The joy of Disney’s “National Treasure” franchise lies in its precise balance of reverence and irreverence. For all the choreographed mayhem, cheeky ahistoricity, and gross mishandling of antiquities, the beloved 2004 film and its 2007 sequel are fundamentally in awe of history, respectful of legacy, and devoted to family.
Despite its sturdy plot mechanics, broad audience appeal and evergreen themes, the “National Treasure” franchise is lacking in currency. Fifteen years have passed since the last entry, a span of years in which the holiday tentpole has evolved, as has Nicolas Cage, who is now more drawn to auteurist grindhouse indies than Jerry Bruckheimer blockbusters. With the increasingly narrow odds of a film to complete a trilogy, the only way to save “National Treasure” from becoming a dusty relic itself was to detonate it and build something new from the ruins.

“You notice things no one else would notice” is a compliment paid more than once to Jess (Lisette Olivera), the heroine of National Treasure: Edge of History. It’s ostensibly what makes her the ideal spiritual successor to Ben Franklin Gates — the protagonist played in the franchise’s two previous big-screen entries by Nicolas Cage, who does not appear here.
In practice, though, it feels more like the show’s way of insisting that Jess is more interesting than the script actually allows her to be, and its excuse for papering over the carelessness of its mysteries. Jess may have an eye for detail, but her Disney+ series has no patience for them — it’s less an intricately crafted puzzle than a jumble of half-broken odds and ends.

National Treasure: Edge of History doesn’t have Nicolas Cage‘s gravely voice declaring he’s “going to steal the Declaration of Independence,” but it does bring fans back into the familiar fold of the franchise’s treasure hunting. Lisette Olivera leads the spinoff series as Jess Valenzuela, the de facto Ben Gates, with Zuri Reed‘s Tasha, Antonio Cipriano‘s Oren, and Jordan Rodrigues‘s Ethan playing her found family and fellow treasure hunters. The foursome, friends since elementary school, will face off with Catherine Zeta-Jones‘ villainous artifacts dealer Billie in the historical fiction/action series, premiering December 14 on Disney+. Justin Bartha reprises his role as fan-favorite Riley Poole in the show. Oren, Tasha, and Ethan jointly represent Riley and Abigail (played by Diane Kruger in the films), but Cipriano tells us Oren is closest in character to Riley. Not only that, but Oren’s also a massive fan...

Harvey Keitel and Justin Bartha are back to help a new generation of adventurers in "National Treasure: Edge of History." The Disney+ series is set to debut in December, and the first trailer was unveiled at D23 Expo this weekend. While it doesn't look too much like the two movies that came before it, it's still a lot going for it -- like Catherine Zeta-Jones in a severe white-blonde wig talking about "the Daughters of the Plume Serpent."
The series will follow a young treasure hunter, Jess (Lisette Alexis), whom the trailer shows was left some sort of secret key or clue in the form of her late father's necklace. The action kicks off immediately in the promo, which you can check out below:
Could Cage Return?
If you missed "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" or don't remember the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced 2000s franchise well, it's worth noting that Keitel plays Peter Sadusky,...

It's been over a decade since Nicolas Cage last graced screens as "National Treasure"'s Declaration of Independence-stealing, president-kidnapping Benjamin Franklin Gates, but more thrill-seeking adventures are coming our way - this time, in the form of a new TV series! On Sept. 10, Disney+ unveiled the first full-length trailer for "National Treasure: Edge of History," and the show looks action-packed - plus, it includes plenty of nods to the original franchise.
While Cage isn't expected to appear in the series, the presence of his character, Ben Gates, is felt thanks to a fun Easter egg. In one scene from the trailer, a character discovers Benjamin Franklin's glasses - the same glasses Ben used in the 2004 "National Treasure." Additionally, the series will see Justin Bartha reprising the role of Riley.
At the heart of the new series is Lisette Olivera, who plays Jess, a young woman with a personal connection to...
