Ship, the announced sequel to the Gerard Butler-starring Plane, gets a new update from star Mike Colter. Released in 2023 and directed by Jean-François Richet, Plane stars Butler as Brodie Torrance, an airline pilot and former Raf officer who teams up with Colter's Louis Gaspare to rescue his passengers after being forced to land in a war zone. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it was announced shortly after the film's release that a sequel called Ship was in the works. Few updates on the project have emerged since, however.

A sequel to one of Gerard Butler’s best action thrillers has reportedly hit a wave behind the scenes. Plane, which was released back in 2023, is getting a sequel in the form of Ship, which will see Butler’s co-star, Luke Cage’sMike Colter, return as former Gcp French Foreign Legionnaire Louis Gaspare continues to make his escape aboard a boat following the events of the first movie.

Offering an update on Ship in a conversation with Collider at Indiana Comic Con, Colter revealed that, while Ship is still on course, the project has suffered several delays. Asked about the action movie follow-up, Colter revealed that, due to the Hollywood strikes, the actor has been left waiting to get the go-ahead from Butler and his production company.

"The status on that is that it was a thing that happened during the strike. They were supposed to be following through on it [then the strike happened]. There's things going on.

Plane, the 2023 action thriller movie starring Gerard Butler (Den of Thieves) and Mike Colter (Evil) is getting a physical media release. Per Geek Vibes Nation, Lionsgate Home Entertainment is set to package Plane in a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Steelbook that will be available exclusively at Amazon.

The Beekeeper star Jason Statham continues to fly the flag for wonderfully no-nonsense action movie fare, and his next movie, the Jean-François Richet directed Mutiny, has now been given a release date. Sadly, it’s going to be a little while before we catch The Stath’s next violent vendetta.

As per a report by Deadline, Mutiny will land in theaters next year on January 9, 2026, with Lionsgate putting Statham’s latest action thriller up against Universal’s M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te, which releases the week before on January 2. Other than that, the path is clear for Mutiny to make a killing at the box office on its opening weekend.

Mutiny sees Statham in the role as both star and producer as he joins forces with the director behind 2023’s Gerard Butler-led Plane, Jean-François Richet, with the action outing finding The Mechanic star on the run while uncovering a major global conspiracy.

Jason Statham, whose action output appears to be increasing over time, is currently shooting an untitled thriller somewhere in the UK or Ireland as these words are being typed. Meanwhile, an action thriller he shot in the autumn of 2024, Mutiny, now has a US release date – 9th January 2026.

Mutiny is the work of French director Jean-François Richet, who previously brought us the robust Gerard Butler thriller, Plane, which happens to include one of the most unfortunately-named fictional airline companies in film history.

According to Deadline, Statham will star as one Cole Reed, a private security specialist who’s framed for the murder of his billionaire boss. It sort of sounds a bit like 1993’s The Fugitive, though we suspect Statham’s Cole will break more jaws and ribs than Harrison Ford did as Richard Kimble.

Jason Statham will be back on the big screen next year, as Lionsgate has dated the actor's next action film, Mutiny, for an early 2026 release.

Per Deadline, Statham's Mutiny will premiere in movie theaters on Jan. 9, 2026. An action thriller movie, Mutiny will follow the release of the M3GAN offshoot, Soulm8te, which will hit theaters one week prior. As of now, no other major release are scheduled for Jan. 9, but the next week will also see two anticipated sequels dropping: Barbarian director Zach Creggers' Weapons and Nia DaCosta's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which will follow this year's 28 Years Later.

According to Deadline, Black Bear has commenced production on Statham's next action movie in the UK and Ireland with Ric Roman Waugh in the director's chair. Waugh is perhaps best known for directing a trio of action movies starring Gerard Butler — Angel Has Fallen (2019), Greenland (2020), and Kandahar (2023). He also recently wrapped filming on the sequel, Greenland: Migration, which is expected to be released in 2025. Baltasar Kormakur was previously attached to direct but had to exit for undisclosed reasons.

Joining Statham are newcomer Bodhi Rae Breathnach (upcoming Hamnet), Oscar nominee Bill Nighy (Living), BAFTA winner Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), and BAFTA nominee Daniel Mays (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

Based on a script by Ward Parry with revisions by Christian Contreras and Parry, we broke news of the project back in Cannes where Black Bear introduced it to the market, co-representing the U.S. rights with Range Select. Rocket Science in partnership with Thank You Pictures and Supernix has announced that filming is underway on “Cliffhanger,” a reboot of the 1993 action extravaganza that starred Sylvester Stallone and John Lithgow. This new version stars Lily James and Pierce Brosnan and is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, based on a story by Ana Lily Amirpour.

A proposed follow-up to “Cliffhanger” dates back to 1994, when TriStar announced “Cliffhanger 2: The Dam,” with Stallone returning. For years it sat fallow until 2019, when Amirpour was hired and Jason Momoa was earmarked to star. In 2023 it was re-announced as a legacy sequel, with Stallone set to return under the direction of Ric Roman Waugh. Mark Bianculli wrote that version of the script. Later in 2023, Jean-François Richet was hired to replace Waugh.

Being directed by “Plane” helmer Jean-François Richet, the pic is being produced by Statham through his newly-launched Punch Palace Productions banner alongside Marc Butan via his MadRiver Pictures.

Jason Statham kicked off the year in some style with The Beekeeper. It remains one of the most fun films of 2024, as The Statham managed to kick seven shades of shit out of people, all while tending to his non-metaphorical hive. Sequels would be very much appreciated.

Directed by Renny Harlin, the original Cliffhanger, which was released in 1993, revolves around Stallones character Gabe Walker, a search-and-rescue mountain climber who is hired to help rescue a band of criminals from the Rocky Mountains after they accidentally lose their loot. The original movie was well-received, earning $255 million worldwide. Despite this reception, Cliffhanger 2 did not materialize until years later; the official development announcement came in 2023.

Cliffhanger 2 has yet to receive a release date, but according to ScreenDaily, the forthcoming movie is set to begin filming in the fall. This was revealed in a larger report about various projects receiving special funding via Austria's filming incentive program. Production will take place at various locations in Austria and Bavaria. Cliffhanger 2, the sequel to the Sylvester Stallone 1993 action thriller, in which Stallone is set to star, has become the first feature film to be awarded the maximum funding of €5m possible under Austria’s Fisa+ production incentive.

Film financier, producer and distributor Sky Original Film has acquired U.K. rights to upcoming action-thriller “Mutiny,” starring Jason Statham.

“Mutiny” follows Statham as Cole, an ex-Special Forces and New York cop who was kicked off the force and now works in private security for Thai shipping tycoon and friend, Tibu. Cole is framed for the murder of Tibu at the hands of corrupt cops, forcing him to escape through Tibu’s freight ships, where Cole discovers that the corruption is deeper and more sinister than ever expected.

Principal photography on the film, directed by Jean-Francois Richet, will commence at U.K. locations in September. The film is written by J.P. Davis (“Plane”) and Lindsay Michel (“Sandpiper”).

Rolling off its acquisition of Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” Italy’s leading independent distributor Eagle Pictures has scooped Italian remake rights to French smash hit “A Little Something Extra,” along with a raft of high-profile projects shopped at the Cannes Film Market.
