Some viewers may say Supernatural lost steam in its last few seasons, but certain episodes prove otherwise. Running for an impressive fifteen seasons, Supernatural delivered over 325 episodes of television from 2005 to 2020. While some of those episodes were bound to be weaker than others, Supernatural maintained a surprisingly high caliber of storytelling throughout all fifteen seasons. Creator Eric Kripke left after season 5, which ended with the near-perfect season finale, "Swan Song." While Supernatural may have dipped slightly in quality after Kripke's exit, it soon found its footing again and continued to deliver consistently solid television.
From ghosts and vampires to angels and demons, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester went up against too many monsters to count throughout Supernatural's fifteen seasons. With their relatable sibling dynamic and compelling character journeys, Sam and Dean made Supernatural worth watching even during its weakest episodes. For 15 years, Supernatural was arguably one of the biggest brands that The CW had to offer. While the network excelled with teen dramas such as Gossip Girl and Riverdale and had a vampire dynasty under The Vampire Diaries umbrella, no series was as long-running or popular. Supernatural first premiered in 2005, casting television heartthrobs Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as monster hunter brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, respectively. Due to its humor, emotional resonance, and mythological lore, Supernatural became a cult classic.
This is why it is perplexing that so many spinoffs blew up all over the launch pad. The most successful occurred after the series finale of Supernatural. Titled The Winchesters, the show was a period...

Leviathans, Vampires, Archangels, and Lucifer, oh my! The hit horror series Supernatural ran for 15 seasons, first on the WB and then on the CW. One of the show’s leads had soap opera roots. Jensen Ackles was the Og Eric Brady on Days of Our Lives. One of Supernatural’s most valuable assets was its guest stars. It turns out that the show often relied on current and former General Hospital actors to help support the scary drama. We break it down for you.

Supernatural premiered in 2005 and starred Ackles and Jared Padalecki as monster-hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester. Over the years, the show had great guest stars, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Sterling K. Brown, Aldis Hodge, Gary Cole, Sarah Shahi, Lauren Cohan, and Linda Blair.

Supernatural helped this major rising star get their big break, something I totally forgot about but is quite fitting. Supernatural was and continues to be one of my favorite series, as it is such a unique procedural. Though Supernatural changes a lot between seasons 1-15, I felt that the core of the story remained strong even as new monsters and characters graced the screen. Despite its shaky ending, the series still has a strong staying power with its fans years later, myself included.
Supernatural's series finale was able to bring the story of the Winchesters to a close, but the cast continues to shine in other projects, which is so nice to see and demonstrates one of the reasons why this show is still so popular. Dylan Sprouse refused to tell a scripted “fat joke” about his Suite Life of Zack & Cody onscreen mother, portrayed by Kim Rhodes, when the show was going on, and now he’s revealing why.
During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy SiriusXM show on Thursday while promoting his upcoming film, The Duel, the actor explained he just doesn’t find those kinds of jokes funny.
“There’s a better joke somewhere else unless you’re talking about yourself,” he told the host. “Like, unless it’s self-referential, which I find is fun, but if you’re pointing the finger at people and like talking about how they look, I just don’t tend to find that very funny in general.”

The CW should revive Supernatural with its canceled spinoff, Wayward Sisters, rather than continuing the Winchesters' story. Wayward Sisters had potential as a spinoff, featuring popular characters from the original show and the opportunity for guest appearances. Wayward Sisters would be a fresh and original addition to the Supernatural franchise, with an all-female cast and the chance to explore new storylines.
Supernatural was among the best fantasy shows on The CW, running for an impressive 15 seasons and 327 episodes, and there's even been speculation about Supernatural returning for season 16 — though it would be better to continue its legacy with a canceled spinoff instead. Kim Rhodes is opening up about a time that Dylan Sprouse was horribly mistreated and body shamed by a higher-up on the set of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

During a recent podcast appearance, she looked back on a time that she advocated for the child stars while on set. More specifically, she recalled a time that Dylan was made to feel awful about his body and how she responded.

Dylan Sprouse is getting a lot of praise on social media for standing up for co-star Kim Rhodes by refusing to have his character use a "fat joke" on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
On the Disney Channel sitcom, Sprouse and twin brother Cole Sprouse played the titular characters, while Kim Rhodes co-starred as their mother, Carey Martin. For a recent appearance on the Back to the Best podcast, Rhodes reflected on how the Sprouse twins had defended her "all the way through" the show's production, expressing her gratitude for the former child stars. Rhodes, who was pregnant at the time, also described one incident in particular where Dylan's Zack was scripted to joke about his mother's weight. The young actor is said to have outright refused to say the line, pushing back when a producer demanded that he do so.

Dylan Sprouse's kindness and respect towards Kim Rhodes is evident when he refused to deliver a fat joke at her expense on the set of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Sprouse's decision to skip the line and stand up to the executive producer shows his maturity and integrity, especially considering his young age during the show's run. Dylan Sprouse's post-Disney career has been unique and diverse, including acting in films and video games.

Former Disney Channel star Kim Rhodes, from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, opens up about the difficult reality many television actors face. One of the network’s most popular shows, The Suite Life aired for three seasons and followed twin brothers (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) living at the Tipton Hotel in Boston. In season 13 of Criminal Minds, Linda Barnes (Kim Rhodes) perplexed viewers when she promoted JJ Jareau (A.J. Cook) to the role of Unit Chief of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. The CBS series follows the lives of FBI agents who work in the Bau, a special unit that handles unique serial killer cases. If Supernatural is to evolve beyond the Winchester family, its best spinoff option is a Sam Colt prequel. For such a beloved show, Supernatural had trouble mounting a spinoff. The chemistry between Sam and Dean Winchester is what made the original work so well, so any potential offshoot was already at a disadvantage without them. The two biggest swings at creating a Supernatural spinoff during the original run were Bloodlines - which had a backdoor pilot during season 9 - and Wayward Sisters. "Bloodlines" has the distinction of being one of the series' most hated episodes (about on par with Supernatural's "Bugs") and the planned spinoff was scrapped.
Wayward Sisters was another backdoor pilot during Supernatural season 13, but despite featuring fan-favorite Sheriff Mills (Kim Rhodes), it also failed to launch a solo show. The curse appears to be broken, as prequel The Winchesters finished its first season in March 2023, though...

However, given Rossi’s age (Mantegna is currently 75 years old), the question of when Rossi would retire also became a topic of interest for the series in these seasons as well. It goes without saying that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) are the heart of "Supernatural." Throughout its 15-season run, the monster-slaying brothers were the face of the CW series: its story begins and ends with them, saving people, hunting things and living up to their family legacy. But its also true that they couldn't have saved the world from multiple apocalypses without a little help from their friends.

Supernatural ran for 15 years and is the longest continuously running American science fiction and fantasy show in history (pipped only by Doctor Who 1966-1989 in the UK). It has a devoted fanbase and has produced novels, graphic novels, a short web-series, and a Japanese anime adaptation. Surely, then, the show is a perfect jumping-off point for a spin-off series? That’s a no-brainer, right?
Except that there have been two previous attempts at a Supernatural spin-off, both getting a pilot episode aired during the show itself, neither of which were picked up by the network. Now, Dean Winchester himself, Jensen Ackles, is producing another attempt, with the first season of The Winchesters due to air on the CW this autumn. So, what does this one need to do to succeed where the two earlier attempts have failed?

What would happen if you put a Disney Channel mom and a CW mom in the same room? True, it’s a scenario you’ve probably never thought about, but Kim Rhodes is here to give us an answer.
The actress is best known for playing Carey Martin, the zany mother on “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” — and a few episodes of its spinoff “The Suite Life on Deck” — as well as Jody Mills on The CW’s long-running hit “Supernatural.” Like many, Rhodes joined TikTok during quarantine, cataloging her descent into cabin fever.

Knowing her audience, Rhodes literally made her bio “The person who played Zack and Cody’s mom And that cop on Supernatural.” But on February 2, she took things a step further. On February 2, 2021, Jody Mills and Carey Martin came face to face.

Don’t hold your breath for a Supernatural spinoff… the fantasy drama is coming to an end with its fifteenth season but The CW President Mark Pedowitz is cold on the chances of more shows to come of its universe.
The series, which stars Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, two brothers who hunt monsters and other supernatural beings. It has aired since 2005, first on The WB before becoming an integral part of successor The CW’s lineup.
Over the years, there have been a number of attempted spinoffs. In 2013, the network launched a backdoor pilot for a spinoff titled Supernatural: Bloodlines, which was to explore the clashing hunter and monster cultures in Chicago, but did not pick up the show. Similarly, in 2017, it developed Wayward Sisters, a spinoff starring Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Jody Mills, which was produced as a back door pilot during...

Since 2005, Supernatural has gone through various story arcs, introduced a vast array of new characters and worlds, and covered plenty of lore, among other things. Over the years, two spin-offs were attempted: Bloodlines, and more recently, Wayward Sisters. Neither came to fruition, but fans still hope a spin-off will arise, now more so than ever with Supernatural itself ending next year. Many fans are hoping Wayward Sisters will have another chance, and other fans have proposed or seem open to other spin-off ideas. That said, here are some spin-off proposals (just in case any network is looking...).

Sam and Dean's work appears to be far from done. The CW has renewed their oldest series, Supernatural, for a 15th season.
A CW paranormal horror drama, season 14 of Supernatural stars Jared Padaldecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as both Dean Winchester and the latest incarnation of the archangel Michael. The cast also includes Misha Collins as Castiel and Alexander Calvert as Jack. This year, guest stars include Jim Beaver, Kim Rhodes, Ruth Connell, Briana Buckmaster, Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen, Clark Blacko, Yadira Guevara-Prip, Samantha Smith, Amanda Tapping, Danneel Ackles, and Felicia Day. Supernatural season 14 kicked off with Sam recruiting everyone to help him track down Dean, and since he’s possessed by Michael, he could be anywhere. Meanwhile, Castiel meets with an unreliable source and finds himself in trouble, and Jack is trying to cope as a human, since his grace was drained last season.

Today, the CW gave a thumbs up for Supernatural‘s 15th season, and as the series closes in on its 300th episode on February 7, it may just be the longest-running hourlong series on an outlier network.
Said the CW president Mark Pedowitz at TCA about the network’s continued commitment to the series: “As long as the ratings hold up and the guys (stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) want to do it, it’s really that simple. They have created something about these two brothers that actually transcends.”
Created by Eric Kripke, Supernatural centers on two brothers who follow their father’s footsteps as “hunters,” fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds including monsters, demons and gods that roam the Earth.
A key reason why Supernatural has remained on the air is that it’s a great launchpad for frosh CW shows.

As wildly popular and successful as Supernatural has proven to be, the seemingly immortal horror series has yet to produce a spinoff that’s made it beyond the backdoor pilot stage. So far, both “Bloodlines” and “Wayward Sisters” failed to gain enough traction with the fanbase as to allow for an offshoot, even if I assumed the latter was pretty much a lock.

Before Wayward Sisters‘ Claire Novak escaped death, she once feared a grim ending to her story, as seen in this exclusive deleted scene from Supernatural Season 13.
As viewers will recall, Sheriff Jody Mills (played by Kim Rhodes) warned her surrogate daughter Claire (Kathryn Newton) about Patience’s (Clark Backo) deadly vision in the potential spinoff’s backdoor pilot. The psychic teen then filled in the details. But in the above video, Claire learns her fate during a different exchange.
“What exactly did you see?” Claire asks as she, Patience and dreamwalker Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip) drive during a rainy, ominous night.

CW boss Mark Pedowitz received his semi-annual TCA question on whether there would be a Supernatural spinoff down the road and his response today was, “If the executive producers want to do one, we’re open to listening to one.”
Back at May upfronts Pedowitz said that the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters wasn’t moving forward. Today the CW president said in response to that series’ stall “we had a certain number of spots this year, so it just didn’t get there.”
Wayward Sisters was to star the original series’ Kim Rhodes in a story about Sheriff Jody Mills (Rhodes) and a group of troubled young women, all orphaned by supernatural tragedy who, under Mills’ training, become a monster-fighting force.
Pedowitz mentioned that Supernatural is such a great franchise, he’s “concerned” that “there may not be a franchise beyond that.”

After two attempts at a Supernatural spinoff, CW President Mark Pedowitz has come to the conclusion that what makes the long-running hit drama so successful is its leading men.
“I am concerned… it may be [stars] Jared [Padalecki] and Jensen [Ackles]. And there may not be a franchise beyond that,” Pedowitz admitted at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour on Monday.
However, “if there’s a great idea that [the producers] want to go forward with, we’re open to listening. It is a great franchise,” Pedowitz added.
The show’s most recent effort at a backdoor pilot for an offshoot, Wayward Sisters, failed to get a series pickup.

Supernatural, the longest-running sci-fi series on primetime TV, took its traditional Sunday spot in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.
Moderated by Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict (both appear on the show), the panel included the Winchesters Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as well as Misha Collins and Comic-Con first-timer Alexander Calvert. Executive producers and co-showrunners Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb also took the dais alongside executive producing/writing team Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner to talk about the upcoming 14th season without revealing any spoilers.
Season 14 also marks a huge milestone for the series. The Winchesters and company will hit the 300 mark when Episode 13 of the season hits. Singer and Dabb might not have everything planned out, but they did give fans some minor details.
“Andrew has a plan — he hasn’t let me in on it,” said Singer. “I am directing it … but I’d like to know what I am directing!

“Andrew has a plan — he hasn’t let me in on it,” said Singer. “I am directing it … but I’d like to know what I am directing!

Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters did not get a pickup because it was not where it needed to be creatively, CW chief Mark Pedowitz says.
It was the very first question Pedowitz got on his phone call with press before this morning’s Upfront presentation to advertisers.
“We had really great material this year,” he said. “We’re really exited about the five series we did pick up. We are big fans of the characters and the women who played the characters in the series, but we did not feel creatively the show is where we wanted it to be. We felt we had a better shot with Legacies.”
Pedowitz added that CW execs are “big fans” of the Wayward actresses “and hope they continue on…guest starring on Supernatural.”
But, he reiterated, he “did not feel [Wayward] was where it needed to be to go forward with it this year.”

Wayward Sisters won’t be doin’ it for themselves this fall — and now we know why. Explaining his network’s decision not to order the high-profile Supernatural spinoff to series, CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters early Thursday, “We are big fans of the characters and the women who played those characters… We hope they continue on as guest stars on Supernatural… But we did not feel creatively that the show was where we wanted it to be. And we felt we had a better shot with [Originals spinoff] Legacies.”

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… if the television pilot that you wrote, cast, produced, shot, acted in and/or toiled over in an all-encompassing manner landed a coveted series pickup.
If not, Upfronts Week — aka the time when networks greenlight the shows with which they’ll fill the upcoming year’s line-ups — is a rough go. And it seems even worse when you consider the potential series that had so much buzz and such sparkling star power, they seemed like slam-dunks for the fall or midseason schedule.
We’ve outlined a few of the most-talked-about passes below.

We're sorry to report The CW has declined to order the Wayward Sisters TV show to series. The project would have been a spinoff to the network's successful, long-lived Supernatural and aired as a backdoor pilot, during the current season of the original program. It did well in the ratings and drew a lot of social media attention, so the decision not to move forward is frustrating to the cast and crew -- and to fans as well (this writer among them). Developed by Andrew Dabb and Robert Berens, Wayward Sisters stars Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen, Clark Backo, and Yadira Guevara-Prip. Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles co-starred in the Wayward Sisters pilot, which aired as episode 13.10 of Supernatural on January 18, 2018, on The CW. The entire Supernatural...
