Dylan Sprouse refused to tell a scripted “fat joke” about his Suite Life of Zack & Cody onscreen mother, portrayed by Kim Rhodes, when the show was going on, and now he’s revealing why.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy SiriusXM show on Thursday while promoting his upcoming film, The Duel, the actor explained he just doesn’t find those kinds of jokes funny.

“There’s a better joke somewhere else unless you’re talking about yourself,” he told the host. “Like, unless it’s self-referential, which I find is fun, but if you’re pointing the finger at people and like talking about how they look, I just don’t tend to find that very funny in general.”

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody recalled the time he was required to say an uncomfortable joke during a Thursday visit to SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. Sprouse said he refused to say a scripted fat joke about co-star and TV mom Kim Rhodes when she was pregnant.

“ just don’t really think fat jokes are funny,” Sprouse said. “There’s a better joke somewhere else, unless you’re talking about yourself. As the SAG-AFTRA strike continues, several actors have come forward to share their residual checks. Streaming residuals stand as a major point of concern for both the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild of America.

WGA captain Caroline Renard shared a TikTok from “P-Valley” star Brandee Evans. In the video, which was posted in May prior to the latest strike, Evans shares three residual checks from SAG-AFTRA. The first two checks are for $3.99 and $4.67, respectively, and the third one is for $0.01.

Evans plays series lead Mercedes Woodbine on the Starz original and has appeared in 17 of 18 episodes of the GLAAD and TCA-nominated series.

Former Disney Channel star Kim Rhodes, from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, opens up about the difficult reality many television actors face. One of the network’s most popular shows, The Suite Life aired for three seasons and followed twin brothers (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) living at the Tipton Hotel in Boston. Rhodes portrayed Carey Martin, the single mother of Zack and Cody who sang at the hotel’s lounge and was a main character throughout the series’ run.

In season 13 of Criminal Minds, Linda Barnes (Kim Rhodes) perplexed viewers when she promoted JJ Jareau (A.J. Cook) to the role of Unit Chief of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. The CBS series follows the lives of FBI agents who work in the Bau, a special unit that handles unique serial killer cases. As a long-running show, Criminal Minds has had cast members come and go, and the series grew from a standard police procedural to having villains with longer arcs, including Linda Barnes.

Linda Barnes is introduced in Criminal Minds season 13, episode 13, "Cure". She is the Assistant Director of National Security for the FBI, and it is revealed that Barnes is the reason the International Response Team was dissolved. The Irt was the focus of the best Criminal Minds spin-off Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. The show was canceled by CBS in 2017, just months before Linda Barnes appears on Criminal Minds.

If Supernatural is to evolve beyond the Winchester family, its best spinoff option is a Sam Colt prequel. For such a beloved show, Supernatural had trouble mounting a spinoff. The chemistry between Sam and Dean Winchester is what made the original work so well, so any potential offshoot was already at a disadvantage without them. The two biggest swings at creating a Supernatural spinoff during the original run were Bloodlines - which had a backdoor pilot during season 9 - and Wayward Sisters. "Bloodlines" has the distinction of being one of the series' most hated episodes (about on par with Supernatural's "Bugs") and the planned spinoff was scrapped.

Supernatural ran for 15 years and is the longest continuously running American science fiction and fantasy show in history (pipped only by Doctor Who 1966-1989 in the UK). It has a devoted fanbase and has produced novels, graphic novels, a short web-series, and a Japanese anime adaptation. Surely, then, the show is a perfect jumping-off point for a spin-off series? That’s a no-brainer, right?

Over the years, there have been a number of attempted spinoffs. Since 2005, Supernatural has gone through various story arcs, introduced a vast array of new characters and worlds, and covered plenty of lore, among other things. Over the years, two spin-offs were attempted: Bloodlines, and more recently, Wayward Sisters. Neither came to fruition, but fans still hope a spin-off will arise, now more so than ever with Supernatural itself ending next year. Many fans are hoping Wayward Sisters will have another chance, and other fans have proposed or seem open to other spin-off ideas. Sam and Dean's work appears to be far from done. The CW has renewed their oldest series, Supernatural, for a 15th season.

The cast also includes Misha Collins as Castiel and Alexander Calvert as Jack. This year, guest stars include Jim Beaver, Kim Rhodes, Ruth Connell, Briana Buckmaster, Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen, Clark Blacko, Yadira Guevara-Prip, Samantha Smith, Amanda Tapping, Danneel Ackles, and Felicia Day. Supernatural season 14 kicked off with Sam recruiting everyone to help him track down Dean, and since he’s possessed by Michael, he could be anywhere. Meanwhile, Castiel meets with an unreliable source and finds himself in trouble, and Jack is trying to cope as a human, since his grace was drained last season.

Today, the CW gave a thumbs up for Supernatural‘s 15th season, and as the series closes in on its 300th episode on February 7, it may just be the longest-running hourlong series on an outlier network.

Said the CW president Mark Pedowitz at TCA about the network’s continued commitment to the series: “As long as the ratings hold up and the guys (stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) want to do it, it’s really that simple. They have created something about these two brothers that actually transcends.”

As wildly popular and successful as Supernatural has proven to be, the seemingly immortal horror series has yet to produce a spinoff that’s made it beyond the backdoor pilot stage. So far, both “Bloodlines” and “Wayward Sisters” failed to gain enough traction with the fanbase as to allow for an offshoot, even if I assumed the latter was pretty much a lock.

Before Wayward Sisters‘ Claire Novak escaped death, she once feared a grim ending to her story, as seen in this exclusive deleted scene from Supernatural Season 13.

As viewers will recall, Sheriff Jody Mills (played by Kim Rhodes) warned her surrogate daughter Claire (Kathryn Newton) about Patience’s (Clark Backo) deadly vision in the potential spinoff’s backdoor pilot. The psychic teen then filled in the details. But in the above video, Claire learns her fate during a different exchange.

Just because The CW didn’t pickup the “Wayward Sisters” spinoff doesn’t mean they’re gone for good.

Jody and the rest of the girl gang who appeared in Season 13, Episode 10, which served as the backdoor pilot for the potential spinoff, will be returning to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in the upcoming season of the longstanding drama.

“All of the characters are going to make their return one way or the other,” showrunner Andrew Dabb said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

CW boss Mark Pedowitz received his semi-annual TCA question on whether there would be a Supernatural spinoff down the road and his response today was, “If the executive producers want to do one, we’re open to listening to one.”

Back at May upfronts Pedowitz said that the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters wasn’t moving forward. Today the CW president said in response to that series’ stall “we had a certain number of spots this year, so it just didn’t get there.”

Wayward Sisters was to star the original series’ Kim Rhodes in a story about Sheriff Jody Mills (Rhodes) and a group of troubled young women, all orphaned by supernatural tragedy who, under Mills’ training, become a monster-fighting force.

Pedowitz mentioned that Supernatural is such a great franchise, he’s “concerned” that “there may not be a franchise beyond that.”

After two attempts at a Supernatural spinoff, CW President Mark Pedowitz has come to the conclusion that what makes the long-running hit drama so successful is its leading men.

“I am concerned… it may be [stars] Jared [Padalecki] and Jensen [Ackles]. And there may not be a franchise beyond that,” Pedowitz admitted at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour on Monday.

However, “if there’s a great idea that [the producers] want to go forward with, we’re open to listening. It is a great franchise,” Pedowitz added.

The show’s most recent effort at a backdoor pilot for an offshoot, Wayward Sisters, failed to get a series pickup.

Supernatural, the longest-running sci-fi series on primetime TV, took its traditional Sunday spot in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.

Moderated by Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict (both appear on the show), the panel included the Winchesters Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as well as Misha Collins and Comic-Con first-timer Alexander Calvert. Executive producers and co-showrunners Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb also took the dais alongside executive producing/writing team Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner to talk about the upcoming 14th season without revealing any spoilers.

Season 14 also marks a huge milestone for the series. The Winchesters and company will hit the 300 mark when Episode 13 of the season hits. Singer and Dabb might not have everything planned out, but they did give fans some minor details.

“Andrew has a plan — he hasn’t let me in on it,” said Singer. “I am directing it … but I’d like to know what I am directing!

Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters did not get a pickup because it was not where it needed to be creatively, CW chief Mark Pedowitz says.

It was the very first question Pedowitz got on his phone call with press before this morning’s Upfront presentation to advertisers.

“We had really great material this year,” he said. “We’re really exited about the five series we did pick up. We are big fans of the characters and the women who played the characters in the series, but we did not feel creatively the show is where we wanted it to be. We felt we had a better shot with Legacies.”

Pedowitz added that CW execs are “big fans” of the Wayward actresses “and hope they continue on…guest starring on Supernatural.”

But, he reiterated, he “did not feel [Wayward] was where it needed to be to go forward with it this year.”

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… if the television pilot that you wrote, cast, produced, shot, acted in and/or toiled over in an all-encompassing manner landed a coveted series pickup.
