Some demons from the past refuse to stay there, as seen in The Clearing. Based on the J.P. Pomare novel of the same name, the psychological thriller centers on a woman raised in a cult as a child who sets out to put a stop to their actions when a group of girls go missing in Australia.
Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four) leads the cast of The Clearing alongside Miranda Otto, Guy Pearce, Julia Savage, Hazem Shammas, Kate Mulvany, Xavier Samuel, Anna Lise Phillips, Mark Coles Smith, Harry Greenwood, and Errol Shand. Balancing the vulnerability of younger minds being shaped by cult mentality with a kidnapping thriller, The Clearing is a haunting series from start to finish.

Teresa Palmer leads the cast of The Clearing alongside Miranda Otto, Guy Pearce, Julia Savage, Hazem Shammas, Kate Mulvany, Xavier Samuel, Anna Lise Phillips, Mark Coles Smith, Harry Greenwood, and Errol Shand. Standing before technicolor stained glass, her golden curls gleaming, Adrienne Beaufort (Miranda Otto) resembles a saint. She preaches her gospel to a room full of acolytes, decrying materialism and urging the washing away of sin. Then she showcases what might one day be the crowning achievement of her spiritual movement: her family of nearly a dozen children. Most of them have had their hair dyed platinum blond and chopped into harsh bangs and bobs—crude reflections of Adrienne’s own exquisite styling. “They are as pure and untainted as it is possible to be,” Adrienne says to the crowd. “A generation raised away from the suffocating rules of society. Nurtured under the most perfect conditions.”
Adapted by Matt Cameron and Elise McCredie from J.P. Pomare’s 2019 novel In the Clearing, Hulu’s The Clearing is inspired by the real-life Australian cult known as “The Family,” which operated in the latter half of the 20th century.

Movies based on cults make up for great concepts not just because we encounter some of them in real life but also because the writers add an eerie element to them. Although gory horror films such as Wrong Turn aren't based on actual events, the recent Wrong Turn: The Foundation is not far from true stories that may have occurred in the real world. These movies show the dreadful reality of cults, which seem to adhere to a false belief system and commit unspeakable atrocities in the name of their cause.
The upcoming psychological thriller The Clearing seeks to keep up the trend by focusing on an exceptionally unique notion. The series, which consists of eight episodes, is based on distressing true stories that occurred in various cults across Australia. Miranda Otto, Teresa Palmer, and Guy Pearce appear in the series based on J. P. Pomare's best-selling novel. While we're discussing this psychological thriller,...

Premiering at the Los Angeles Film Festival, “Sensitivity Training” is screenwriter and director Melissa Finell’s first feature film. But the filmmaker is no novice; her short film for UCLA, “Disaster Preparedness,” was honored at the Student Academy Awards. Finell enlisted the help of mentor Charles Haid, whom she met while attending UCLA, to executive produce “Sensitivity Training.” The comedy revolves around the upbeat Caroline helping scientist Serena learn to adjust her interactions with her employees. Serena and Caroline are complex, relatable, and genuine characters with very distinct personalities. “I wanted to find actresses who could really embody these two distinct personalities and have great comedic chemistry with each other,” Finell says. Finell met Anna Lise Phillips at a screening party of “One Armed Man” at Haid’s home. “I really enjoyed talking to Anna Lise at the party and found her incredibly smart, sharp-tongued, funny, and charming,” says Finell,...

If you’re a dog lover, be sure to steer clear of The Pack. Why? Because you’ll either end up fearing your four-legged friends, or cringe during defensive scenes that depict appropriate, but brutal, man-on-canine violence. This isn’t your typical “when animals attack” adventure, thanks to the way director Nick Robertson is able to transform a few pups into dark, deranged reapers from Hell. Much like Adam MacDonald’s Backcountry, which features a hammer-clawed behemoth of a bear, scribe Evan Randall Green finds horror in the most primal situations, and tension never ceases. Robertson continually reminds us that Satan’s lapdogs are on the prowl, either watching from afar, or tearing into flesh with their bone-white teeth.
Did I just become a cat person?

Okay, so this is either weird, coincidental, or just plain funny. A new round of stills has arrived for Michael Petroni's second feature film, Backtrack, and it seems as if Adrien Brody has infected everyone with his singular facial expression. See the startling proof!
Petroni's Backtrack is a supernatural thriller that he wrote and is directing with Adrien Brody and Sam Neill in the lead roles. The cast is rounded out by local actors Bruce Spence, Robin McLeavy, Jenni Baird, and Anna Lise Phillips.
The film follows a psychologist whose life is thrown into chaos when he discovers his patients are all ghosts of people who died in an accident 20 years prior.
Jamie Hilton (The Waiting City, Sleeping Beauty) is producing for See Pictures alongside Antonia Barnard (The Painted Veil, The Quiet American) and Petroni.

Michael Petroni is understandably chuffed by the B.O. results of The Book Thief, his adaptation of the Marcus Zusak novel- particularly in Australia. Yet he wonders how the WWII drama might have turned out if he hadn.t been asked to do multiple rewrites by the studio, Fox 2000, and the director, Downton Abbey.s Brian Percival. .My major disappointment with the rewrites was that they took out most of the magic realism that features in the book,. said Petroni, who is editing the Aussie psychological thriller Backtrack, the first film he.s directed since 2002.s Till Human Voices Wake Us. .Fox wanted a film that would appeal to families, not just adults, and Brian wanted to tell more of a straight, dramatic tale..
He is quick to add, "I am very proud of the film, people come up to me and tell me how much they loved it. On...

Adrien Brody, Sam Neill, Bruce Spence, Robin McLeavy and Anna Lise Phillips are shooting Backtrack, a psychological thriller from writer-director Michael Petroni. Jamie Hilton, who is producing with Petroni, his partner in See Pictures, and Antonia Barnard, says the project was relatively easy to finance. That was due primarily to how sales agents, distributors and other financiers responded to Petroni.s screenplay, the saga of psychologist Peter Bowers who discovers his patients are the ghosts of people who died in an accident 20 years earlier. Another advantage during the financing was that Petroni.s status as a writer was rising as The Book Thief, his adaptation of the Markus Zusak novel, started shooting in Germany. Screen Australia, UK-based sales agent Bankside and Oz distributor Madman Entertainment came on board before Brody, an Oscar winner for The Pianist and who starred in Midnight in Paris and The Brothers Bloom, was attached. The other participants are Screen Nsw,...

Some moves, especially the really big ones, like to give you so much advance notice that it feels like you’re seeing imagery and trailers for decades before they arrive. Other, smaller titles usually prefer to sneak into production then put out a release. Such is the case with Australian thriller Backtrack, which is now shooting, and stars Sam Neill and Adrien Brody.Writer-director Michael Petroni has crafted a film that finds a psychologist's life thrown into chaos when he learns that his patients are all ghosts from an accident that occurred 20 years previously. Serious shades of The Sixth Sense, then, from a film that also stars Bruce Spence, Robin McLeavy, Jenni Baird and Anna Lise Phillips. Though that reference is not a big spoiler: it’s merely the jumping off point for the plot. (If his patients are ghosts, who's been paying their bills?)Petroni, who directed 2002’s Till Human Voices Wake Us,...

We also have a clip and featurette from last week’s midseason premiere, and a TV spot and clip from tonight’s new episode. Welcome back, Revolution, and sorry Danny.

Death came to "Revolution" again in the shocking ending to midseason premiere episode "The Stand." We're only halfway through Season 1 and the show has already lost its second full-time cast member, now that Danny (Graham Rogers) has joined Maggie (Anna Lise Phillips) as casualties of the increasingly dangerous rebellion.
"I think it's exactly the right type of shocking development that really ramps everybody up emotionally for their mission in the second half of the season," showrunner Eric Kripke says of the decision to kill off Danny. "It emotionally escalates everything."
Poor Danny had only recently been reunited with his mother Rachel (Elizabeth Mitchell), sister Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and uncle Miles (Billy Burke) before he bravely faced off against an attacking Monroe militia helicopter and saved the rebels by shooting it down. As the copter came crashing down out of control, Danny was struck and killed by the spray of bullets.

Oh, I see what they did there. The five-part web series posted by NBC in support of its midseason premiere of Revolution concludes with this final installment, which as you will see does a nice job of tying the whole web series to both the premiere of the series and tonight’s midseason premiere. Check it out:

See? Remember, Ben was accidentally killed when his son Danny tried to protect him from being captured by Capt. Neville, way back on the pilot. As you know.
Nicely done, Revolution people, a terrific prequel to both the series and tonight’s midseason premiere – which is excellent, by the way, easily one of the best episodes to date. Enjoy that too, now that you have this little nugget of Revolution knowledge to add to your appreciation.

If you have heard about this J.J. Abrams show Revolution on NBC but have never given it a try, now’s the time because tonight is the midseason premiere, and it’s a good one. You’ll just need to know a couple of things. You may remember that this is the show that takes place 15 years after a permanent power outage has taken place all over the world. Not only is all artificial power gone, but all engines have been rendered inoperable. The regular governments fell, and areas have been taken over by despotic generals.
Why then, you may be wondering, does the first scene of the midseason premiere begin (as the first half ended) with a helicopter chasing down our starring group? That’s because at the end of the first half of the season, the bad guy, General Monroe (David Lyons), former best friend of our group...

These Revolution prequel webisodes have been interesting, but this latest one has me even more intrigued. The description says “After completing his investigation, will Neville’s unquenchable curiosity put his life in danger?” And what are the chances that we’ll be given the answer to that question before the midseason premiere of Revolution, which is, finally, next Monday?

Getting the first minute (or four or eight) of a show or movie is a great teaser, but it’s even better when it’s preceded by an introduction by an executive producer or two. The Wheatley letters were great, but this new live action web series from NBC’s Revolution is more of my kind of thing. The web series takes place 11 years after the blackout and four years before most of the main series. General Monroe (David Lyons) has just survived the first assassination attempt made by Miles Matheson (Billy Burke). He calls on Captain Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) to hunt down who else could have been involved in the plot. This first episode really sets the tone for the series. I can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Wheatley has been a tortured soul through all of this mess. He talks in this letter about even being forced to fight against his own people to keep his cover. Maybe you figured it out already, but Wheatley is a character we’ve seen before and in this episode we see what may be the end of his timeline. It recalls a moment in Revolution Episode 9, “Kashmir,” where these webisodes converge with the show. We will have to see what is in store for us next week.

This week Wheatley begins with a story of how he completely missed the blackout while on a camping trip with his family. They hardly noticed anything different. This story seems to be a reminder of what he’s fighting for, and he writes the letter to remind the resistance to use his information to fight against the militia. This is the fifth in the series of Webisodes for Revolution.

Actually, Wheatley isn’t ever really pleased. He just doesn’t really have anything really nice to say to us these days. He’s still working undercover with the Militia and he’s gotten a recent promotion, so you would think that he would be in a better mood, but even that good news doesn’t stop him from ending his letter on a sour note. I’m still enjoying the way things are going with these webisodes and I’m hoping that Wheatley will be able to complete his mission regardless of actions of those he’s writing to.
