Battlestar Galactica has earned critical acclaim throughout the years as the series boasts some memorable performances by actors who've starred in a variety of other remarkable projects. It's not an easy task to impress the cult following of a short-lived series like the original Battlestar Galactica, but the re-imagined sci-fi series from the 2000s managed to pull it off. The Syfy original series ran for four seasons and is filled with compelling character relationships and interstellar conflict. Actors like Edward James Olmos, Katee Sackhoff, and Jamie Bamber lead the series and are beloved by audiences for their sci-fi roles.
The series' main cast is made up of re-imagined versions of characters in the original Battlestar Galactica, but the show introduces some new characters as well. Olmos and Mary McDonnell are among the actors in Battlestar Galactica whose biggest role outside the show came before its premiere. Other actors like Grace Park...

The Madness is a limited crime thriller series created by Stephen Belber that follows CNN pundit Muncie Daniels (Colman Domingo) when he gets caught up in a murder case while renting a cabin in the Poconos. After stumbling upon the crime scene and successfully escaping the killers, Muncie finds the police, who set their sights on him as the prime suspect. The situation only gets worse for Muncie when the victim is identified as Mark Simon (Tahmoh Penikett), an alt-right influencer, whose political opinions were the complete opposite to Muncie's, adding to the increased suspicion by the police and the public that Muncie may have committed the murder himself.

Warning: Spoilers for The Madness.
A major success for Netflix, The Madness follows Muncie Daniels (Colman Domingo), a TV pundit who finds himself caught up in a murder conspiracy after stumbling upon a dismembered body while secluded at a cabin in the Poconos. After accidentally appearing in the wrong place at the wrong time, those responsible for the murder chase him through the woods before he stabs one of them with a pen and escapes. However, when he reports the incident to the police, the crime scene has been completely cleaned, and there isn’t a body in sight. Confused about the circumstances of the situation, Muncie immediately returns to his Philadelphia apartment and begins to investigate the identity of the murdered man. Unfortunately, the deeper he digs to find the truth, the more embroiled he becomes in something bigger than he could have ever imagined.

Horror movies are the perfect films to watch during Halloween, making it the holiday of choice for many of them. Eli Roth's slasher movie Thanksgiving brought a heaping helping of horror on another day of the year. While it's certainly a change of pace, it's not the only explicitly holiday-themed scary movie.
Christmas is another popular time to spread holiday fear, with some movies decking the halls with bowels of victims. Conversely, one fearsome movie explores the concept of a particularly bad birthday through the lens of another "holiday" movie. Add in a European pagan celebration for the changing of seasons, and it's clear that Thanksgiving will have some seasonal competition from discerning movie lovers.

The horror genre keeps churning out great movies, such as the intoxicating Hugh Grant thriller Heretic. Part of its success is how it's able to produce movies that not only terrify audiences with gross-out scenes or a well-timed jump-scare, but also be a ton of fun. A great example of this is the Terrifier series, with Terrifier 3's funniest moments arriving among the requisite brutality and gore. Thanks mainly to Art the Clown's silent, but deadly, humor.
However, it's not just more recent horror films that have managed to be creepy as all hell, while bringing some solid fun along the way. Classic franchises have gained popularity thanks to quick-witted villains like Freddy Krueger, who is also incredibly creepy. The great thing about the horror genre is its ability to bring audiences together, to share an experience that'll be intense, and uncomfortable at times, but also a lot of fun.

Trick 'r Treat fans just got a much-needed update about the franchise's big-screen future. Michael Doughtery, who wrote and directed the original horror movie, recently offered a positive update on the long-gestating sequel.
In a new commentary track for Trick 'r Treat, released in Arrow Video's 4K Ultra HD edition of the movie, Dougherty opened up about the difficulties plaguing the sequel, which was first announced back in 2013. "Its tricky, because I think we really did capture lightning in a bottle with this one, and it nearly killed me. What a lot of people dont realize is that the bulk of our favorite horror movies, especially the ones that introduced new horror icons, were all independent movies," said Dougherty (via Bloody Disgusting) about having to work within the studio system for Trick 'r Treat.

The Devil in Ohio ending is a disquieting close to the Netflix miniseries, and some aspects may need to be explained for the story's full impact to be clear. Based on the book by Daria Polatin, the eight episodes of the 2022 miniseries followed hospital psychiatrist Suzanne Mathis (Emily Deschanel), a mother of three whose home life is slowly breaking down. Enter a mysterious runaway who arrives at the hospital, Mae (Madeleine Arthur). Mae is quiet and fiercely intelligent and immediately makes a bond with Suzanne. Suzanne brings Mae home and the young woman's horrifying backstory is unveiled.
Devil in Ohio features a strong cast of actors and an intriguing story about a cult who takes any measure to retrieve what they've lost. Casting the right actor in an important role is one of the most important decisions that a movie or TV show can make. How this actor brings the character to life and their chemistry with the other actors is just as important as the story they're telling. Over the years, the film industry has been more open to gender-flipped casting, which sees performers of different genders take on roles initially written for or acted by someone of a separate identity. In some cases, gender-swap recasts improve upon the original movie or TV show, creating exciting opportunities for the story.
Most gender-swapped casting in movies and TV involves women stepping in to play roles traditionally portrayed by men.

Battlestar Galactica's "Last Supper" teaser hinted at the characters' fates in the finale. The image contained hidden clues about future events, reflecting character arcs. Religious overtones in the image reflect the central themes of faith and fate in the show.

Tahmoh Penikett's career continued to flourish after he played Captain Helo Agathon in Battlestar Galactica. Penikett's post-Battlestar career includes roles in Dollhouse, Supernatural, and Devil in Ohio. The star also has also been cast in two upcoming feature film roles.
Battlestar Galactica star Tahmoh Penikett has appeared in quite a few projects since the end of the iconic television show. 2005's Battlestar Galactica was a reimagining of the iconic 1978 science fiction show of the same name, which spawned a wide-ranging multimedia franchise. An unfulfilled guest star appearance by Katee Sackhoff on The Office would have been a perfect callback to Jim's iconic line mocking Dwight's Battlestar Galactica obsession. Rainn Wilson revealed that the show tried to get Sackhoff to appear on The Office either as herself or a character Dwight encounters, but it never worked out. Sackhoff's Star Wars role would have added another layer of significance if she'd guest-stared on the later seasons of The Office, as Dwight is also a fan of this franchise.
A specific actor's unfulfilled guest star appearance on The Office would have been the perfect callback to one of Jim Halpert's most iconic lines. While the ensemble cast of The Office was full of strong performers, some of the best characters were only around for a short while. Throughout its nine-season run, The Office (U.S.) featured plenty of memorable guest stars in a variety of roles.

Battlestar Galactica remains both an iconic science fiction series and a perfect example of how to do a reboot 20 years after its debut. There are a number of factors that contributed to this, including its tendency to deliver suspense (which was baked into the series from the jump) and the wide cast of characters. It was also a show that showed relationships blossoming, crumbling, or even both. Dr. Gaius Baltar (James Callis) was forever tormented by the Cylon vision of beauty that was Number Six (Tricia Helfer), while Karl Agathon (Tahmoh Penikett) fell in love with two different copies of the Cylon Number Eight (Grace Park). But the strongest relationship in Battlestar Galactica, and the one that serves as the biggest example of the series' themes of hope and resilience in the face of despair, is between Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell).

Villains are crucial to a show's legacy; a compelling antagonist can elevate the series, but mishandling a villain can ruin the entire story. A poorly executed twist (like revealing the Final Five Cylons in Battlestar Galactica) can disappoint viewers and harm the show's credibility. Characters like Colleen Wing in Iron Fist showcase how a poorly executed plot twist can undermine a show's narrative integrity.
The villain in a TV show is just as important as the hero, and their storyline can determine the fate of a series' legacy. 1 | What was the silliest part of last week’s Fire Country: The over-the-top, Leone-taunting Knox character, or firefighter Vince negotiating a prison gang war truce (with “the worst of the worst,” no less)? And did it take you a sec to recognize Tahmoh Penikett beneath Knox’s soot and stubble?

"When your life becomes a living nightmare, one tends to see joy in the darkest of corners." Vertical Ent. has already released this indie thriller on VOD earlier this month, but we're just catching up with the trailer for it now. Sheltering Season is directed by Pacific Northwest actor / filmmaker Bradley Stryker, made up in Canada on a small budget. A woman finds herself isolated in her remote home with her brother who is seeking forgiveness for the darkest moment in their family history. "It soon becomes a race against time for her husband, Rex, and the authorities to intervene and in the midst of the chaos, Lilly must come to terms with her brother's sins." Starring husband and wife actors Caitlin Stryker and Bradley Stryker in the lead roles, with Teach Grant, Olivia Cheng, Patrick Gilmore, Agam Darshi, Juan Riedinger, and Tahmoh Penikett. It doesn't look it's original or interesting in any way,...

If I’ve learned anything from Trick ‘r Treat, it’s that you don’t disrespect Halloween. “I hate Halloween,” says Emma (Leslie Bibb) in the opening scene. She blows out the lone jack o’lantern and whines to her husband Henry (Tahmoh Penikett) about taking down the decorations on Halloween night. Moments later, she gets her comeuppance and becomes bloody and artsy décor on the front lawn. Her head is chopped off and her limbs hung with rope in the trees, a pumpkin lollipop shoved into her gaping mouth. Sam might be tiny, but he suffers no fools when it comes to the beloved holiday. It’s a gnarly image that drives home the film’s central theme: Halloween is sacred and should be treated as such.
With the long-awaited theatrical run this October, Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat remains an emblem for great anthologies everywhere and perfectly...

"Someone else was here?" "Did she see anything…?" "Yep." Signature Ent. has released their own UK trailer for The Last Victim, described as a "neo-Western thriller" about a small town sheriff chasing outlaws. It already opened in the US a few months ago, but why not another trailer since it looks like a solid film. The Last Victim is a small town crime thriller set in the American southwest, following Sheriff Hickey who is trying to solve the worst case he has seen in his jurisdiction, likely caused by a violent local gang led by a fearsome criminal. When a young professor and her husband cross paths with the gang, they are drawn into a chain of vengeance where morality is ambiguous and survival is the only priority. The thriller stars Ali Larter, Ron Perlman, Ralph Ineson, Kyle Schmid, Tahmoh Penikett, and Tom Stevens. This film doesn't seem too bad...

While staring glassy-eyed at interminably long stretches of “The Last Victim,” I was reminded of a ‘60s variety show sketch I viewed during my adolescence. The premise of the skit: Producers of some returning fall shows were told at the last minute that their series had been expanded from 30 to 60 minutes, and they had to stretch scripts that had already been written. So everything — walking down hallways, rifling through files, preparing coffee, everything — was done very, very slowly. The sketch, as I recall, was amusing. “The Last Victim” is not. At least, not intentionally.
The latest in a seemingly endless line of neo-noir thrillers with a neo-western gloss, “The Last Victim” plays like the work of people who watched “Blood Simple” and “No Country for Old Men” several times, slapped themselves on the forehead and said, “Hey! We can do that!” Not so, based on the evidence presented here. Instead,...

"If you don't belong in the world no more, you'll end up with only two choices – escape it... or change it." If you combine Lifetime, Ann Rule, and the esteemed Diane Neal, you get another ripped from the headlines thriller that will have you on the edge of your seats.
Circle of Deception is the latest Ann Rule true crime inspired piece to make it to the small screen, and as fans of the books and the Lifetime films know, they're among the strongest of the Ripped from the Headlines series.
And much like Lifetime actress Robin Givens helmed Ann Rule's A Murder to Remember, this time around, it's another network veteran, Ashley Williams, making her directorial debut.
From the promos, the standout of the film is Law & Order Svu's Diane Neal. She stars as a former Beauty Queen who orchestrates a murderous scheme.
The film is about a small island community that is rocked by the mysterious death of Russel Douglas, played by Paul McGillion, the day after Christmas.

I think you all know me by now and realise that I am willing to give pretty much anything a fair shake. The Sinners synopsis did read like a bit of a change pace as well, moving into the more teen angs drama territory with a promise of some sort of “Mean Girls meets The Craft” hybrid. Of course I wasn’t the biggest fan of Let’s Scare Julie which felt like it was trying to do a similar things. So I was quietly hoping that this one would win me over…

Altered Carbon is as gritty as its source material, boasts impressive visuals, and is the perfect TV entry point for cyberpunk fans...
The hunger with which fans of cyberpunk will devour Altered Carbon, Netflix's noir adaptation of Richard K. Morgan’s definitive novel, is not up for question. The television landscape hasn’t yet spawned any classics of this particular sci-fi sub-genre the way cinema has with the likes of Blade Runner or even the more controversial Ghost In The Shell (although some are in the works), so the field is wide open for this series in which minds are downloaded into new bodies to prolong life. Fortunately, Altered Carbon succeeds on its own many merits, not just because of the dearth of competition.
