Dysfunctional family dynamics are in full swing in All Happy Families. The engaging dramedy, headlined by Josh Radnor and directed by Haroula Rose, finds one family in major flux. Suddenly, all at once, its as if everything in life has changed. Perhaps more challenging to accept is the fact that they, too, must change if theyre ever going to emerge gracefully from significant life transitions.

Marvel Studios has been slowly introducing mutants to the MCU since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. A theory suggests He Who Remains was stopping mutants from joining the MCU, but his death meant that they could begin to appear. Marvel Studios' mutant characters were missing for most of the MCU, but a new theory could explain exactly why prior to the release of the McU's X-Men reboot. Chicago – The Red Carpet was for rock … er, cinema … stars at the the 60th Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff) Summer Gala, and the directors, actors and film VIPs were present and feted. Patrick McDonald and Photographer Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com were also there, and got the stars to pose and talk.

Hosted with raucous glee by “Today Show” personality Al Roker, the night was a luminous event with brilliant speeches, highlighted by Career Achievement Awardee John C. Reilly, who thanked his born-and-bred Chicago upbringing for his movie star career. Also honored was filmmaker Jennifer Reeder (“Knives and Skin”) who received the Tour De Force Award for her progressive feminist filmography, and took us through her journey in a screenplay speech format. Ciff Founder Michael Kutza was also honored, and received a standing ovation.

Chicago – The names “Tj & Dave” are legion in the Chicago entertainment scene. The improvisation duo – T.J. Jagodowski and David Pasquesi – are improv performers who heighten the status of the city as a comedic destination. Now they’re featured in a indie TV pilot that will premiere at SXSW 2024 entitled “Bettendorf Talks.”

The show – produced by Shane Simmons and directed by Jack C. Newell – is a sharp and smart “show within a show” and a workplace comedy regarding the newest (and most unlikely) local talk show to come out of the titular Midwestern Quad City. Hosted by the “has been” comedy duo T.J. Jagodowski and David Pasquesi (who star as caricatures of themselves), the two attempt to mount a hit show in search of a sliver in their former glory. Groundhog Day cast members will reunite in Chicago on February 2 to celebrate the life and career of director Harold Ramis. The reunion will feature an immersive experience inspired by the 1993 film, as well as iconic costumes, props and set pieces. The Marvel Universe introduces a new evolutionary stage called homo supreme, which comes after mutants and possesses the ability to conquer death. Mister Immortal, leader of the Great Lakes Avengers, is revealed to be part of homo supreme, despite being a character largely played for laughs. Mister Immortal's unique powers and role in the cosmic drama make him an evolutionary step beyond mutants, deserving more respect in the comics and the MCU.

The MCU has already introduced the next evolutionary stage coming after mutants. In the Marvel Universe, mutants, or homo superior, are regarded as the pinnacle of evolution, possessing powers beyond their human kin. Yet, in 2005’s Gla #4, fans learn that a surprise character, with ties to the MCU, is part of homo supreme, the final stage of human evolution, so powerful they can conquer death itself.

This stunning revelation is made in Gla #4, written by Dan Slott and drawn by Paul Pelletier.

The Berlin Film Festival has revealed the first tranche of titles for its Panorama and Generation strands.

The Panorama lineup includes films from Ukraine, Yemen and about Iran. Of the 14 films selected, 11 are world premieres. There are new films by Sepideh Farsi, Jennifer Reeder, Tina Satter, Sacha Polak, Malene Choi and Ira Sachs.

The films selected for the Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus competitions include nine shorts and nine features, including 11 world premieres.

Stars featured in titles across the strands include Willem Dafoe, Ben Whishaw, Adèle Exarchopoulous, Leon Dai and Sydney Sweeney.

The festival takes place Feb. 16-26, 2023.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever just gave its latest contender for the title of "Strongest Avenger in the MCU" with Namor. The caveat, of course, is that he’d have to become a more heroic figure since he was the main antagonist of the Black Panther sequel. Nevertheless, his inherent strength rivals that of the Hulk and even Thor, living up to his deification by his fellows Talokans. The film hasn’t been out that long, but many fans are eagerly anticipating a Namor film in the distant future where he can showcase even more of his powers and complexities.

While the MCU is currently stacked with incredibly powerful heroes, from Captain Marvel to Scarlet Witch, some big hitters from the comics are still waiting in the wings for their time in the spotlight. Some have gotten attention in animated series or other films, but not yet in the MCU – yet...

Marvel Comics has some of the most popular superheroes to ever grace the pages of the comic book world, many of whom have become staples of popular culture in the decades since their introduction. While there are dozens, if not hundreds, of fan-favorite Marvel characters, the company has also churned out numerous strange and absurd superheroes that never really struck a chord with fans.

From bargain versions of well-known superheroes to mutants with completely useless abilities, Marvel's history runs the gamut of weirdness when it comes to characters the company would rather keep swept under the rug. However, fandom being what it is, it is impossible to keep these characters a secret for too long.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is returning to its comics roots, introducing some of its zaniest characters to live-action in titles like Werewolf by Night and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

If there's one thing "She-Hulk: Attorney At Law" has been able to do more than most projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's showing superpowered, supernatural, and otherwise mythical beings just existing within this world. While Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) was one of the first notable lawyers in the MCU, his clients were largely grounded beings, such as Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal).

Although Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) hasn't been on hand with all of these specific cases, the superpowered law division of Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, and Holliway have already dealt with a light elf, a disgraced sorcerer, a superhuman influencer, and an indestructible being simply known as Mr. Immortal (David Pasquesi). The biggest detriment against "She-Hulk" is that most of these cases feel like afterthoughts, while Jen tries to adjust her living situation alongside the big, green rage machine living inside her.

Over the course of "She-Hulk: Attorney At Law," True Believers have been introduced to a number of interesting, obscure, and unforgettable characters. We have yet to meet Frog Man at this point in the show, but appearances from the Wrecking Crew, Titania, and Madisynn King (with Wongers) have certainly held us over until that day finally arrives. However, in the latest episode of the Disney+ series from Jessica Gao, the show makes the deepest cut to date and pulls out one of the most obtuse characters in all of the Marvel Universe and utilizes him in an absolutely hilarious way.

Well, this is it. “The Book of Boba Fett” is closing (for now).

Over the past seven weeks we’ve seen the former bounty hunter grow into a leader, form emotional bonds with those around him, and attempt to do something right on the planet that left him for dead. While there have certainly been ups and downs, with diversions and detours (like two full episodes of “The Mandalorian”), it has been a fun ride. Each episode of “The Book of Boba Fett” has been our little weekly hot pocket of “Star Wars.” Sometimes the hot pocket is gooey and delicious, other times it still feels like it’s partially frozen; but we still look forward to it nonetheless.

But how did the show wrap up? Read on to find out!

The second episode of the Disney+ “Star Wars” series, titled “The Tribes of Tatooine,” inches the present day story forward while spending even more time exploring the mysterious bounty hunter’s past following his escape from the Sarlacc (in admittedly rousing fashion). We got some answers, we got some questions, and we got a whole lot of weird Tusken Raider noises. And probably the first drug freak-out scene in a “Star Wars” story? Let’s dive in!

When “The Mandalorian” premiered in the winter of 2019, it gave its titular hero (and the world) the gift of Grogu (aka Baby Yoda). When “The Book of Boba Fett” debuted in December 2021 — an obligatory spinoff of that first, very successful, Disney+ series — it gave its titular hero… a drink of water.

A kind reading of such a simple ending would be that “Star Wars” is getting back to basics. Rather than go overboard with the “bigger is better” mentality typically attached to Hollywood successors, “The Book of Boba Fett” stuck to its core story. In Episode 1, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) splits his time between the present — where he’s establishing rule in Jabba the Hut’s old territory — and dreams (nightmares?) of the past, where he’s just trying to survive. Jawas steal his armor. He’s beaten and held captive by Tuskan Raiders.

Lucasfilm had good news and bad news for Star Wars fans looking forward to new Disney+ shows this year. The bad news is that you’ll have to wait a bit longer for The Mandalorian season 3 than expected, with the new season set to film some time this fall. Chicago – The evolution of the “local filmmaker” always seems to be defined through where that person is. Jack C. Newell appears to not be measured by time and place, but as a filmmaker of artistic vision with a basis in love. His latest film, “Monuments,” opens June 4th, 2021, through the Gene Siskel Film Center virtual cinema.

Written and directed by Newell, “Monuments” is a comedy about grief with a dash of hopeless romance and a sprinkling of adventure, this melange is a quintessential indie road movie, featuring expansive cinematography and an unexpected musical score by acclaimed Takénobu. Filmed on location partly in Chicago, “Monuments” brings together an eclectic cast led by David Sullivan and Marguerite Moreau as a devoted couple whose love cannot be diminished by death. The family of Moreau’s character has other plans, and the comic element of the film comes from that conflict.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to Meander, a horror thriller written and directed by Mathieu Turi. It will now get a July 9, 2021 release date in theaters and on on-demand platforms.

The film stars Gaïa Weiss, Peter Franzen and Romane Libert. Weiss plays Lisa, who after getting a car ride from an unknown man wakes up in a tube. On her arm is strapped a bracelet with a countdown. She quickly understands that every 10 minutes, fire burns an occupied section. She has no choice but to crawl into safe sections to survive. Amy Sedaris is shutting the doors to her home. At Home with Amy Sedaris has been cancelled, per Deadline, which means viewers will not see a fourth season on truTV. The series aired its third season last year, and it will now be available for viewing on HBO Max.

Sedaris and Paul Dinello co-created the surreal comedy-variety series. Premiering in 2017, the series covers a variety of topics in comedic fashion with guest stars, character appearances, and more.

Amy Sedaris will not be getting in the kitchen for a fourth season of her variety series At Home With Amy Sedaris.

The series has been canceled after three seasons on WarnerMedia’s TruTV. The news comes as the third season of the show, which ran between May and July 2020, is set to launch on the HBO Max streaming service.

The series, which was co-created by Sedaris and Strangers with Candy’s Paul Dinello, was produced by A24.

Debuting in 2017, each episode touches on a specific theme and features characters, how-to demonstrations and special guests. Topics included preparing for a baby, the do’s and don’ts of travel, how to celebrate Easter, and what to expect on a first date.

The series aired its second season finale on Oct. 14, which will now serve as the series finale.

We don’t know what “Lodge 49” is about either, but perhaps we can learn together by watching the Season 2 trailer, which AMC released on Thursday.

Ok, we just watched it and we still don’t know what “Lodge 49” is about. Fortunately, AMC has some idea — we think — perhaps the cable channel’s official Season 2 description will enlighten us.

Season 2 of this modern fable set in Long Beach, Calif. centers on likable “Squire” and ex-surfer Sean “Dud” Dudley (Wyatt Russell), whose beloved fraternal order — the Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx — is suffering under new rule by an ill-suited leader. Despite his “Knight” and mentor Ernie’s (Brent Jennings) lost faith, and his twin sister Liz’s (Sonya Cassidy) struggle with their past, Dud believes he is the key to restoring the Lodge to its former grandeur and putting the rightful king on the throne.

Nope. No, that didn’t do it either.

It’s hard to find a show like “Lodge 49” anywhere else on TV. Part family drama, part metaphysical journey through distant reaches of Southern California, part bureaucracy-based mystery, the AMC show is unapologetically its own.

So, with Season 2 on the horizon next month, it’s no surprise that it looks like the show is continuing to clear its own singular path. Wyatt Russell reprises his role as Dud, a wayward young guy looking for healing in more ways than one. With the help of his sister Liz (Sonya Cassidy), he manages to stay afloat and out of trouble, even while trying to preserve his late father’s legacy.

Politics hits a new low as Veep hits a new high as Selina Meyer gets ready for Super Tuesday.

On last week's Veep, Selina Meyer began what looked like the start of a trip down a slippery slope of ethical malfeasance. In episode 5, she jumps on a greased fireman's pole, and not in a good, erotic way. "Super Tuesday" is political satire at its best and most savage. Seinfeld, the series which Julia Louis-Dreyfus helped Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David transform TV comedy in, ended with the main characters imprisoned for criminal disregard. I wonder if Selina will end this series campaigning in an orange jumpsuit for chief of C-Block. I can only hope Jerry himself is appointed special council.

The political system is designed to favor wealthy and well-connected candidates, and corruption is the best way to buy goodwill, from both donors and voters.
