In one of the most popular Netflix animated series Blood of Zeus, the creators are crystal clear that actor Ryan Gosling has influenced so much of their creative thinking. The creators of the series which is based on Greek mythology, Charley and Vlas Parlapanides unfold how the actor’s representation of young Hercules constructed their notion of storytelling.

The brothers are known for their innovative takes on Greek classical myths and how they portray them in different ways that pertain to their perspective. Regardless of drawing inspiration from the old legendary tale of Hercules, they compelled themselves to deviate from that path to a new unvisited side of Greek mythology. This ultimately led to the birth of the Blood of Zeus and Heron, its original main character.

The process of reinventing and retelling classic tales through movies and art isn’t new. However, Blood of Zeus is a class apart through its deconstruction and retelling of Greek mythology. From loss to redemption, the anime borrows major themes and elements from Greek tragedy. The anime premiered in October 2020 and was a massive hit worldwide.

Blood of Zeus is returning to one final season at Netflix.
Creators Vlas Parlapanides and Charley Parlapanides confirmed this would be the last season, expected to debut in 2025, during the show’s panel at Comic-Con on Saturday. The rest of the details for the season are being kept under wraps for now.
“In Season Three, we are so excited to continue the story of Heron, Seraphim and the gods as they face their most dangerous adversaries yet, Typhon, Cronus and the Titans,” the Parlapanides said.
Blood of Zeus is an epic war between gods, mortals and demons in this dynamic mash-up of anime and mythology.
Vlas and Charley Parlapanides are the writers. They also executive produce alongside Brad Graeber and Michael Hughes. Jae H. Kim is supervising producer. The show hails from Powerhouse animation studio.

If you are an ardent fan of Greek mythology and read a plethora of books such as The Song of Achilles, Circe, Percy Jackson Series, and many more, then you surely would have enjoyed watching Netflix’s Blood of Zeus. Even though the series is based on Greek mythology and legends, it is nothing that we don’t know or haven’t read. Despite trying to stand apart from the ancient legends and myths that we are aware of, the show often falters in creating something new.
Heron, the son of Zeus
The show is full of problems, and it is only great when it adds a dark twist to the Greek legends while trying not to stray too far away from the authentic source material. However, it looks like the show is in a tight spot, as the creators, Vlas and Charley Parlapanides, open up about the repetitive aspect of the show.

I'm always amazed at how many good shows completely fly by me. Case in point: Blood of Zeus, an animated show about gods and demons and other monsters of Greek mythology, created by Charley Parlapanides and Vlas Parlapanides. Season 1 released eight episodes in late 2020, and now Season 2 is coming on May 9. I've only watched the first three episodes so far, but it's exactly what it sounds like on the tin, only better, in that's a hard-edged action-adventure that puts a human touch on Greek mythology. The official synopsis for Season 2: "Following Zeus' demise, a power vacuum emerges amongst the gods, leaving Heron, Zeus' demigod son, struggling to find his place. He is racked with loss and hears a mysterious refrain...

Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, the dynamic duo of writer/producers behind Immortals and hit Netflix animated series Blood of Zeus, have tapped Oscar-nominated screenwriter Dan Gordon (The Hurricane) and New York Times bestselling writer and artist John Stanisci (Batman Beyond) to develop a new property based on the bloody gladiator battles of 5th century Rome with Gladiatrix, in simultaneous development as an original graphic novel and television series!
Charley Parlapanides says “Dan and John have been masterful storytellers for decades in a wide variety of mediums, be it film, tv, the theater or the panels of a comic book. There’s a notable difference between the types of projects that Amazon and Netflix have been putting out, theatrically speaking. On the one hand, Amazon has been gunning for awards and embracing a theatrical release with things like the Oscar winner Manchester by the Sea. There’s also their burgeoning relationship with an auteur like Woody Allen. It’s a whole concerted effort under their Amazon Studios wing. On the other hand, Netflix has gone for casting a wider net, while only occasionally putting their higher profile films out in theaters, like Beasts of No Nation or this year’s Okja. They only once in a while look at things with an awards type view. So far, they’ve either come up short with would be players like War Machine, or seen things like Beasts of No Nation snubbed. This week, Death Note hits as the latest major Netflix release.

The Netflix version of Death Note fills a persistent void in adaptations of the manga. Available to stream on August 25th at 12:00Am.
Via The Hollywood Reporter:
Netflix's adaptation of the Japanese manga Death Note marks the latest incarnation of this well-established property, which has seen numerous previous movie, TV and anime treatments in Japan and overseas, but no prior live-action English-language version. With the streamer's global reach, the latest iteration will easily attract a worldwide audience in conjunction with a limited U.S. theatrical run, but building an eventual franchise on the back of director Adam Wingard's latest feature may prove more challenging across such a wide variety of territories and cultures.

Considering director Tarsem Singh and screenwriters Vlas and Charley Parlapanides come from cultures steeped in mythology, you would think Immortals might have a touch of fidelity to the ancient source material. Instead, this incredibly generic looking film barely pays attention to even the most basic elements of the gods, goddesses, and creatures that interacted with man once upon a time. The film, out on home video now from 20th Century Home Entertainment, pays some lip-service to the stories once told to enthrall the masses and focuses on the handsome, well-oiled Theseus, our mortal hero. Played by the Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, he’s used to larger-than-life figures and gamely works his way through a bland script that pales in comparison with the best of Harryhausen and even the various myth-based films of the last few years.

Immortals arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on March 6. I enjoyed this movie in theaters but did not think it was worth seeing in 3D. The action was a lot of fun, so it should be cool to see on your home theater. Aside from the epic action, the discs feature an alternate beginning and ending, along with other special features.
Here is the official press release:
One brave warrior, touched by the gods, must overcome all odds to save mankind from a merciless and powerful tyrant when Immortals comes to Blu-ray and DVD on March 6th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Directed by visionary filmmaker Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall)and written by Charles Parlapanides and Vlas Parlapanides, the home entertainment release is chock-full of must-see bonus features including an alternate beginning, two alternate endings, deleted scenes and an amazing graphic novel, creating the ultimate viewing experience.

Much like 300, the flick Immortals is one of those movies that just make your manhood feel a bit heavier while watching. Theatres should have served steaks and beers instead of popcorn and soda! That's okay, though, since the flick is coming home and you can eat as many t-bones as you like while watching.

Tarsem’s Singh’s “Immortals” was spiffy. That is, if you enjoyed slick slow-motion fighting and head crushing goodness, and who doesn’t like a little slow-motion, head-crushing action in their diet? The visually stimulating film arrives on 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Triple Play and plain ol DVD on March 6th, 2012 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Cover art, specs, and official PR for the home release below. Unfortunately, despite taking its opening weekend, Tarsem Singh's Immortals seems likely to go as under-appreciated as his masterpiece, The Fall. Whether or not it manages to hold onto a solid fanbase, as is the case with the quite similar 300, remains to be seen, but critics have not taken to the film generally.
Usually, the overall consensus of critics at large is something that I'm only accidentally aware of at all, and the fact that moviegoers rate a film in the polar opposite direction simply the natural course of events, but in this case I find it rather perplexing. I say that because the film is so brilliant in so many ways, and at the same time so convoluted and disinterested in explaining itself that you would think the action-adventure would hardly make up for it to Mr. and Mrs. 18-35 year old American. No offense.

Bitter King Hyperion has declared war on humanity and the Gods, and is after the Epirus bow in order to unleash chaos and war upon the heavens and earth.
The Epirus bow is a magical thing capable of unleashing powerful ethereal arrows that strike with the impact of a divine bazooka. It's good at killing people and blowing things up; but, it's also the one thing on earth capable of breaking the lock to the imprisoned Titans, and so setting free an ancient enemy of the Gods.
Zeus has chosen Theseus - for some unspoken reason - to lead humanity against the bitter King. The Gods themselves are precluded from directly interfering from some sort of bizarre 'Prime Directive' style law, and so...

Through a summer of great action movies and superhero films, there was one title I eagerly anticipated: Immortals. I couldn't wait for Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Kellan Lutz, Daniel Sharman and Joseph Morgan among others in the best-looking male cast ever assembled. I couldn't wait for Tarsem Singh, creator of the visually stunning The Cell and the legendary The Fall, to right the wrong of last year's Clash of the Titans remake.
Sadly, that was not to be. Immortals is best described as a disastrous mess. Visually amazing, yes, absolutely worth at least a regular ticket price ... though maybe best seen in 2D. The faults with Immortals radiate entirely from a titanically bad script. While last year's Clash of the Titans suffered from script rewrites and bad editing, the Immortals script seems to be the product of inexperience. Screenwriters brothers Vlas and Charley Parlapanides have one unknown feature film writing credit between them,...

Chicago – The sword and sandals epic has been around since the costume department fashioned the first toga. A modern take on this tried-and-true story line is “Immortals,” using the latest computer generated imagery to create the gods of Mount Olympus, the mortals of ancient Greece and their severed heads in 3D.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Despite the laughable and stiff dialogue, “Immortals” succeeds through casting and action, all of which spins a nice eye candy to the seen-it-before parts of the typical breastplate genre. Director Tarsem Singh (”The Cell”) has a keen perspective on what makes this type of film work, and uses the latest tools in the database to render the fantastical time and place. The cast is sincere and gives the surface silliness some gravitas, with the exception of the scenery-chewing Mickey Rourke.
Theseus (Henry Cavill) is a well trained soldier in his small Greek village. A fatherless child, he has...

It’s going to happen, so lets get out of the way up front. As much as you should judge each and every film on their own merits and qualities, sometimes you can’t help but compare films to one another. In the case of Tarsem Singh’s new film, Immortals, the immediate comparisons to 300 will be made. Hell, these comparisons were made even before the film was even released. The trailers, posters, and marketing campaign left many feeling that this is just a rehash of what was done by Zack Snyder in 2006. It even says “From the producers of 300” on the poster! So you can imagine my surprise when I came out of the theater pleasantly surprised. If I had to compare the two (which I kind of feel I have to at this point), I actually feel that Immortals tops 300 in many ways. I will get into some of these reasons later.

Brace thy britches and oil thy broadsword, for verily the time for a big budget slice of epic fantasy is nigh. Forsooth! After Ironclad, Your Highness and Conan the Barbarian, 2011 hasn’t been shy of legendary tales of heroism and the relatively recent sieges of the multiplexes that were Clash of the Titans and 300 linger in the mind too in anticipation of the release of Immortals. Has this film what it takes to stand head and shoulders above the crowd, or will we just be bored and sandals?
The thing about mythology is that any version of the story is basically a loose retelling of it anyway. Whilst students of the Greek classics may get their togas in a twist, the majority will likely have few...
