In some cases, when a TV show's premise stops working quickly, this opens the door for the writers to experiment with more fantastical and outlandish narratives, leaving behind the story that was once so rooted in reality. While this can sometimes be the perfect thing and keep a show on the air for longer, it can also come out of nowhere and give the TV series a reputation for jumping the shark, making audiences take it less seriously.

Many long-running TV shows never changed their original premise, but this is the exception, not the rule. It's more likely that a series will grow and evolve throughout its run, finding new formulas and settings that the characters flourish in and that audiences respond to. 'Tis the season for everyone's annual holiday movie watch (and/or re-watch), that magical time of year where we gorge ourselves on all manner of films that take place in and around the holidays. For some cinephiles, this means delving into the darkest depths of "is it a Christmas movie because it has one scene with a decorated tree in it?," while for others, it means a first-time or 70th-time viewing of canonized holiday classics. One of the joys of watching a vintage Christmas film for the first time is seeing some of your favorite actors turn up looking impossibly young. For instance, this writer just watched 1995's "Home for the Holidays" the other night, and was delighted to see a younger Robert Downey Jr. doing his signature motormouth patter.

While that film is a bit obscure in the holiday canon, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" is a movie that almost needs no introduction.

When a television show is being developed, casting can make or break a show. Once a character is cast, they're rarely recast. It takes a lot of work and effort to find the right person for a role to fit the vision of the creators. Fans quickly fall in love and have favorites, especially when the character is well-written and well-acted.

Riverdale star Kj Aapa is set to star as Bradley Nowell, the former lead singer of Sublime, in a biopic about the hit band. Sublime was a groundbreaking band of the early 1990s, mixing punk, reggae, and ska together in a signature sound that gave classic songs like "What I Got" and "Santeria." Lead singer and guitarist Bradley Nowell tragically passed away at the age of 28 in 1996 following a heroin overdose. His legacy lives on through the band's incredible successes, and his son, Jakob Nowell, has been Sublime's new lead singer starting in 2023.

According to Deadline, Apa will star as Nowell in a new film centered around Sublime. Movie producer turned director Mohit Ramchandani has unveiled plans for a $1 million ticket giveaway to promote his upcoming Roadside Attractions’ release City of Dreams.

With sneak previews starting Aug. 28, Ramchandani is giving away tickets to individuals and groups for free thanks to a donation from John Devaney, founder of United Capital and Manor House Films. City of Dreams, based on true events, follows young Mexican teenager Jesús (Ari Lopez), who is enslaved, beaten and forced to work in the squalor of a Los Angeles sweatshop after being brought to the U.S. as part of a premier soccer camp that turns out to be a scam.

City of Dreams is produced by Sean Wolfington, executive producer of Sound of Freedom, the child trafficking drama that became a box office hit last year. The movie’s executive producers include Mira Sorvino, Sylvester Stallone, Pat Riley, Martin Sheen, Kathie Lee Gifford, Katheryn Winnick and Marisol Nichols.

With the theatrical release of Roadside Attractions’ child trafficking drama City of Dreams coming up, the filmmakers will be giving away $1 million in free tickets for a series of sneak previews beginning Wednesday, August 28, the studio announced today.

It’s expected that the giveaway will result in more than 50,000 moviegoers coming out. The hope is to bring out trafficking survivors and individuals from anti-trafficking organizations, as well as schools, churches, municipalities, and people who might not otherwise be able to afford a screening. Complimentary advance preview passes are available at the link.

In the top 25 markets nationwide, iHeart Media will provide live coverage, with on-air talent on site to help bring added awareness to the issue of child trafficking. The ticket giveaway was made possible through a donation from John Devaney, founder of United Capital and Manor House Films.

On Saturday, Can’t Hardly Wait co-writer/director Deborah Kaplan announced a stage musical in the works based on her and Harry Elfont‘s 1998 cult classic teen movie, which starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, Seth Green and Charlie Korsmo.

She shared the title art and tagged the official Instagram profile for Can’t Hardly Wait: The Musical, writing in the caption, “And that’s all I’m able to say @canthardlywaitthemusical #comingsoon.”

Kaplan tells Deadline that she and Elfont are “mostly benevolent godparents watching from the sidelines” on the upcoming musical.

The 23rd edition of the Tribeca Festival is out with its slate of feature films including world premieres starring Kristen Stewart, Lily Gladstone and Jenna Ortega. Exclusive: Marisol Nichols (Riverdale) will star alongside Jenna Ortega, Percy Hynes White and Adam Rodriguez in the romantic drama Winter Spring Summer or Fall, marking the feature directorial debut of Holidate and About Fate scribe Tiffany Paulsen.

The film billed as Before Sunrise meets The Perks of Being a Wallflower is written by Dan Schoffer, with revisions by Paulsen, and tells the story of teens (Ortega and White) on the cusp of adulthood who meet and fall in love over four significant days of the year.

Released just before Christmas 1996, the Wes Craven slasher Scream was a surprisingly big hit, and Dimension Films wanted to cash in on it right away. They rushed a sequel into production for a December 1997 release, with Craven back to direct and Scream writer Kevin Williamson working on the screenplay. But the Scream 2 (watch it Here) that reached the screen at the end of ’97 wasn’t the story Williamson had originally envisioned. One month before the launch of Hallmark‘s annual Christmas programming event on Oct. 21, the network has unveiled the full lineup of all its original holiday movie premieres across Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

Debuting 40 movies this yuletide season as part of Hallmark Channel’s popular “Countdown to Christmas” and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ “Miracles of Christmas” events, network favorites Lacey Chabert (who stars in her record 12th Hallmark Christmas film), Alison Sweeney, Holly Robinson Peete, Jodie Sweetin, Jonathan Bennett, Luke Macfarlane, Marilu Henner, Nikki DeLoach, Rachel Boston, Ryan Paevey, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Taylor Cole and Tyler Hynes are back to lead new romances, among dozens of other familiar faces.

Popular Hallmark regulars Hynes, Andrew Walker and Paul Campbell will team up for a holiday film, “Three Wise Men and a Baby”, playing brothers.

It’s unlikely that anyone was holding their breath for an English-language reimagining of Francis Veber’s 2006 French hit “La Doublure,” a lovable if trite farce in which a porter and a supermodel fake a romantic relationship in order to prevent a PR disaster. But with the help of some doting cultural specificity, a charming cast and sunshiny Los Angeles skies, “Come As You Are” director Richard Wong’s “The Valet” proves that a remake can still be a welcome thing these days, even in a world oversaturated with them.

Written by Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg (the duo behind the “Overboard” remake), this sweet-natured and good-humored rom-com-with-a-twist should easily find reasonable streaming success upon its May 20 launch on Hulu. Arguably, Mexican film and television superstar Eugenio Derbez has already conquered the American market. His 2013 film “Instructions Not Included” is the highest grossing Spanish-language film in the U.S. and grossed 100 million worldwide. He earned a SAG Award as part of the “Coda” ensemble cast, which went on to win the Best Picture Oscar, and he co-starred in the hit action-adventure “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.”

However, the attempts to launch him as a romantic leading man — in 2017’s “How to Be a Latin Lover” and 2018’s “Overboard,” a remake of the 1987 comedy — haven’t exactly lit the world on fire, even if they have been profitable.

"Elegant just like his mother!" Hulu has revealed an official trailer for a comedy film titled The Valet, a US remake of a French comedy of the same name (The Valet from 2006). Hulu has debuted the brand new trailer for the upcoming comedy ‘The Valet’ featuring Samara Weaving.

World-famous movie star, Olivia (Samara Weaving) faces a PR disaster when a paparazzi snaps a photo of her with her married lover, Vincent (Max Greenfield). The hard-working valet Antonio (Eugenio Derbez) accidentally appears in the same photo and is enlisted to pose as Olivia’s new boyfriend as a cover-up. This ruse with Olivia thrusts Antonio into the spotlight and unexpected chaos. In this fish out of water romantic comedy, two worlds and cultures collide as both Olivia and Antonio start to see themselves more clearly than ever before.
