Highlights include the world premieres of Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon starring Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott; Radu Jude’s Kontinental ’25; Hong Sangsoo’s What Does that Nature Say to You; Michel Franco’s Dreams starring Jessica Chastain; Lucile Hadžihalilović’s The Ice Tower starring Marion Cotillard; and Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Hot Milk with Emma Mackey, Fiona Shaw, and Vicky Krieps.

The festival will also include international premieres from Julia Loktev, Mary Bronstein, Kahlil Joseph, and more. In terms of omissions for films that potentially could have been a strong fit: there’s no Steven Soderberg’s Black Bag, Wes Anderson’s German production The Phoenician Scheme, nor Berlinale regular Christian Petzold, who wrapped Miroirs No. 3 only a few months ago.

As Deadline reported exclusively last week, the project, based on TF1’s popular detective series Hip (High Intellectual Potential), had been a frontrunner for an order as part of a fall round of ABC pilot pickups. The network had set an early, mid-October script delivery date deadline for a few projects that were in more advanced stages of development to contend for what I hear are about two or three pilot orders.

Distributor Newen Connect struck the deal with ABC Signature for the show that has been sold to more than 100 territories worldwide.

Work has already begun to adapt the scripts of the series, with showrunner, writing team and cast still to be announced.

The U.S. adaptation is currently in development, and a showrunner, writing team and cast will be announced at a later stage.

The original series, created by Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, Stéphane Carrié and Nicolas Jean, and starring Audrey Fleurot (“Intouchables”) and Mehdi Nebbou (“The Bureau”), has been one of the most successful French-language shows on French TV in the last 10 years.

“Hip” stars Fleurot as a super-smart mother of three who gets recruited as a consultant for the police thanks to her innate skills, in spite of the fact she has no background in detective work.

A borderline impossible game of Taboo could be played if one were tasked with describing Olivier Masset-Depasse’s “Mothers’ Instinct” without using the word “Hitchcockian.” The Belgian director’s luxuriant psychological thriller is so redolent of the Master of Suspense’s style, and so gorgeously robed in Thierry Delettre’s ’60s costuming that at times one expects star Veerle Baetens (“The Broken Circle Breakdown”) to turn around and just be Tippi Hedren all of a sudden. But as much as this deliciously enjoyable, spiral-shaped descent into darkness wears that influence on its immaculately cut, three-quarter-length sleeve, it also represents a subversion of even Hitch’s most femme-centric titles. Here, the devotion, jealousy, coercion, and, indeed, “Suspicion” that underpin his conception of male-female relations are ascribed to a female friendship instead.

Alice Brunelle (Veerle Baetens) peers out her window as neighbor Céline Geniot (Anne Coesens) leaves, rushes out once the car pulls away. She enters the woman’s adjoining home with a set of keys to clandestinely move through and close the curtains. We assume the worst: an affair. The music manipulates this suspenseful thought, the camera in-close to lend an anxiously frenetic tone to her movements. And then Céline returns, sensing something amiss. We brace for the reveal as Masset-Depasse provides it with a sly smile, simultaneously proving we got worked up for nothing and that we weren’t wrong to do so.

It begins with an effective, open question which Marcus Seibert's screenplay then continues to re-pitch and re-frame throughout its runtime; if your child murdered someone, what would you do? It's an intriguing premise which is regrettably let down by fairly pedestrian treatment. Seibert never really manages to fully engage with the incidental - and more interesting - questions that he raises and as the narrative proceeds down its predictably dark path, it never quite settles on its tone meaning that neither its drama, nor its black-comedy, land the required punches.

Assembling a first rate cast for his endeavor, this piece of journalistic championing posture play fails to enthrall on all levels, making this seem more like an adventurous piece of propaganda. An undemanding picture, but likable family comedy from India

Here is a likable family comedy from India with its own air of innocence, and a boisterous cameo from Amitabh Bachchan. Former ad director Gauri Shinde makes her feature debut, and the star is Bollywood veteran Sridevi. She plays Shashi, a shy housewife, mother and devoted cook who is feeling increasingly left out of things because, unlike her hip kids and businessman husband (Adil Hussain), she speaks hardly any English. Sridevi, making a comeback after 15 years, is reaching new heights even before the release of her film. The Sridevi starrer English Vinglish is going to be premiered at Toronto International Film Festival this year which is going to be held from September 6-16.

Eros International’s English Vinglish also marks the directorial debut of Gauri Shinde, wife of film-maker R.Balki who is also the producer of the film. The film is going to be premiered on September 14. The film stars Sridevi, Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou and Priya Anand.

The film is scheduled to be part of the highly coveted Galas’ section for a world premiere.

In the early hours of 5 September 1972, eight armed men sneak into the Olympic village in Munich, break into the Israeli team's headquarters and take 11 hostages. These tense opening sequences are brilliantly and accurately done, intercutting TV reports with documentary footage and meticulous recreation. The Munich hostage drama, lasting 20 hours, was the first time a major terrorist attack became a live television event. This film captures that with great skill.
