Maeve Murphy is an award winning independent film maker, writer-director. Humanist in basis her films do not shy away from political or controversial stories, sometimes regarding women. She is most known for Silent Grace her feature re the largely untold story of the women on the 1980 Dirty Protest and Hunger Strike that got practically written out of history was in The Irish Times 2020 Top 50 Irish Films Ever Made and was selected to represent the UK at Cannes in 2002. Nominated also for the Conflict and Resolution Award at The Hamptons USA. Her second feature Beyond the Fire ran into censorship issues over the subject matter with RTE and received an instant broadcast on TV3 in Ireland, it covered the still ground breaking topic of love in the wake of rape. One of the characters had been abused by a priest. Sushi her short film won the Subti- International short film Award at Venice Days FF. Venice Days were co judges. Her recent short film St Pancras Sunrise screened at the ICA, 2024 and is proof of concept for a feature.
