The project is spearheaded by writing partners Sammy Horowitz and Adam Pasen (Power Book IV: Force). Horowitz, now a successful screenwriter, is a former Chicago gang member who was imprisoned for nearly a decade and spent several years incarcerated at Stateville Correctional Center, in Crest Hill, Illinois.
The idea for the fellowship came after Horowitz and Pasen taught a screenwriting workshop last year at Stateville for Npep. Students learned the six plot points of a feature and developed their own story markers along with a logline.

“Power never dies.” That was the tagline (and obligatory hashtag) used back in early 2020 to tease an ambitious brand expansion of Starz’s popular drug-trade drama, “Power.” As the flagship series wound down, the sizzle trailer insisted that while the show’s antihero protagonist — played by Omari Hardwick — might have drawn his last breath, there was plenty of oxygen left in the franchise. It seemed almost fanciful at the time — four spin-offs announced at once?!? — but three successful shows launched within two years’ time goes beyond proof of concept. Not only is “Power” alive and well, its heart rate is robust.
February saw the premiere of “Power Book IV: Force,” the franchise’s third extension, focused on Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora), one of the “Power” universe’s many virtuosic cocaine dealers. “Force” set an all-time viewership record for Starz, tallying 3.3 million cross-platform viewers for its premiere. Starz has handed a second season order to Power Book IV: Force.
The renewal announcement Wednesday follows strong ratings for the February 6 debut of the third spinoff in the Power franchise, which notched the most-watched series premiere in Starz history, with 3.3 million multiplatform views in the U.S. alone.
Power Book IV: Force will have a new showrunner in Season 2. Gary Lennon is taking over as showrunner/executive producer for series creator Robert Munic, who will not be involved with the new season. This is a reunion of sorts for Force leading man Joseph Sikora and Lennon as the latter was the co-showrunner on the original Power for its sixth and final season in 2019-2020.
The series, which hails from Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Lionsgate Television, centers around Tommy Egan, played by Sikora, after he cuts ties and puts New York in his rearview mirror for good.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of tonight’s Power Book II: Ghost series premiere on Starz.
“The man who killed James St. Patrick is (long pause) Tommy Egan,” declares Naturi Naughton’s Tasha St. Patrick to a dubious courtroom just before one more twist ended the debut of Power Book II: Ghost today.
Having premiered early this morning on the Starz App and just now on the premium cabler itself, the first spinoff in the Courtney Kemp created franchise was part throwback to mother show Power itself and a whole lot of leap into the future, literally and figuratively. With Michael Rainey Jr’s Tariq St. Patrick trying to get his mother out of jail for the murder of his father that she did not commit, Cliff “Method Man” Smith’s high-flying defense lawyer Davis Maclean and Mary J. Blige’s Queenpin Monet are finally introduced into the Powerverse.

For the most part, I’ve enjoyed Taylor Kitsch’s work, so I was happy to see that he is set to star in and executive produce a new drama series at HBO.
There’s no title for the series yet, but Kitsch will take on the role of a character named Chris Klug, “a young, family-oriented, drug dealer who catches the wrong end of a bad batch of dope that leaves him in a temporary vegetative state. He discovers that it was no accident and someone close to him was in fact trying to take him out.”
It’s said that the story will be told through flashbacks and Chris’ present-day purgatory. I like the concept behind the series and there’s no doubt that it’s going to be filled with all kinds of frustrations, especially with the main character being in a vegetative state not being able to do anything.
