A year ago, the world experienced a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon with the Barbenheimer event. 2023 brought people out of their homes in swarms and drove them into the theaters for Greta Gerwig’s neon-hued funky Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s disruptive Oppenheimer.

When all was said and done, the pair delivered a resounding commentary on modern society and its de-evolution, giving the audiences something to think about. 13 months later, Greta Gerwig officially broke her silence by delivering a long-awaited update on the much-deserved sequel to the film, that turned a plastic doll into humanity’s wake-up call.

Before James McAvoy became Professor X to the world, he was once Mr. Tumnus in C.S. Lewis’ movie adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. For many fans who grew up watching the film trilogy, the character is a fan-favorite choice.
James McAvoy and Georgie Henley in The Chronicles of Narnia / Walt Disney Pictures
It wouldn’t be the case though had McAvoy was not hired for the role. The studio initially wanted a much older guy, but this decision would have landed the film in a pool of controversy.

For audiences of a certain age, it might be amusing, or maybe even disappointing, when, early in “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” the eponymous hero skins a raccoon to fashion a bandage for a serious leg wound, rather than to make a hat of the sort famously worn by Fess Parker when he played the character in enduringly popular Disney miniseries and movie spin-offs. Maybe this is writer-director Derek Estlin Purvis’ way of winking at the audience. Or, more likely, it’s his way of letting us know from the get-go that this will not be your father’s King of the Wild Frontier.
William Moseley (“The Chronicles of Narnia”) is effectively earnest as the legendary frontiersman in Purvis’ leisurely paced but sporadically exciting historical drama, which focuses on the period when Crockett, then a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee, became an outspoken critic of...

Santa Claus first appeared on film all the way back in 1898, when he starred in a short film by George Albert Smith called, appropriately, "Santa Claus." In it, a silent Santa sneaks across a rooftop, climbs down a chimney, and leaves gifts for a little girl and boy who are nestled in their beds.
Ever since, holiday films have been stuffed with depictions of Father Christmas. Some are nice, and some are naughty. Some are jolly, and some are degenerate. Most are merry, but a few are murderous. Many films try to put their own spin on the Santa mythos, too, trying to make their St. Nick stand out from the pack of present-carrying holiday patriarchs. But others simply try to spread holiday joy, offering something jolly to put on while you sip hot cocoa and trim the tree.
With an eye toward giving you a little bit of everything...

"This can still end well." "But I don't want it to end well!" Saban Films has revealed a trailer for the thriller On The Line, the first English language feature made by a French filmmaker named Romuald Boulanger. It's opening in November if anyone is interested. A host takes a call, where an unknown person threatens to kill the showman's entire family on air. To save loved ones, the radio host will have to play a survival game and the only way to win is to find out the identity of the criminal. All while love on air. Mel Gibson stars as the host, with William Moseley, Alia Seror-o'Neill, Paul Spera, Nadia Farés, Enrique Arce, and Kevin Dillon. This sounds surprisingly similar to Hot Seat, another strange under-the-radar thriller this year about a bomb under the seat of someone who gets a call. This looks a bit campy and obvious with its plot,...

Mel Gibson is taking his golden vocals to the airwaves in the new On the Line trailer, and he’ll have to do some fancy talking if he hopes to survive his next disturbed caller. Some of life’s most intriguing people are awake in the wee hours of the night, but what if they’ve chosen you as the next victim of their desperate plea for companionship?
In On the Line, Mel Gibson plays a provocative and edgy overnight radio host who must play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a mysterious caller who has kidnapped his family and is threatening to kill them and blow up the whole station, all while live on air.
Romuald Boulanger directs and writes On the Line, with William Moseley, Alia Seror-o’Neill, Paul Spera, Nadia Farés, Enrique Arce, and Kevin Dillon starring alongside Gibson in the new thriller.

Once upon a midnight dreary as I slumbered, worn and weary, at once I beheld an eerie film I had not seen before. Only this, and nothing more.
There really isn’t much more to Raven’s Hollow.
If there’s one thing that Edgar Allan Poe really excelled at, it was structure. He understood the rhythms not only of verse but of storytelling, approaching it very deliberately and precisely, and it’s hard to imagine that he would have been anything other that appalled by this shoddy exercise in pilfering the most superficial aspects of his work. The attempt to credit him by working him into it as a character is still more of an embarrassment, partly because the writers have clearly made no effort to connect with his personality (despite the existence of a vast archive of materials which might help them to do so), and partly because...

Writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) is known for his short stories and poetry dealing with mysteries and the macabre. In the U.S., he is regarded as a dominant figure of Romanticism and is considered to be the inventor of the detective fiction genre, as well as a major contributor to science fiction. Poe’s most famous poem, The Raven, was published in 1845 and describes an agitated lover’s painfully slow descent into madness after he is visited by a talking raven. While The Raven was reportedly inspired by Charles Dickens’ real-life pet raven, the film Raven’s Hollow attempts to tell the story of Poe’s inspiration for the poem as a supernatural incident the young writer experienced, but does so with arguable results.

1830, just outside the town of Raven’s Hollow, five West Point cadets, Edgar Allan Poe, yes the writer, Lawrence Bishop (Kyle Rowe; The Brothers Grimsby), Will Taylor, Thomas Cricke (Michael Guest; Balance) and Lutz Becker come across a man disemboweled and hung up like a scarecrow.
In true cinematic fashion, he has just enough life left in him to utter a single word, “Raven”, before dying. Poe convinces the others it’s their duty to bring his body to town for proper burial. Czech folk hero Jan Zizka’s story has been dramatized — and mythologized — in various forms many times, including a mid-1950s celluloid trilogy by Otakar Vavra that was arguably the local industry’s most ambitious production in those somewhat stodgy, pre-New Wave days. Purportedly the Czech Republic’s most expensive feature to date, Petr Jakl’s new “Medieval” portrays the same legendary figure in what’s anything but an old-school costume epic. Instead, this robust, assured enterprise offers a distant past in the brutally combat-driven action mode of “Gladiator” and “Braveheart,” its patriotic sentiments steeped in mud and blood.
The economic realities for such a costly spectacular require a degree of formulaic creative decisions in line with current international audience tastes, while the casting of American and British actors in primary roles further waters down a distinctive regional character. Nevertheless, “Medieval” succeeds as a lively, handsome chunk of history (however...

"Death brings life." The Altitude has debuted one final violent red band trailer for Medieval, an action epic about a Czech warlord, based on a true story from history. We've already featured a few other trailers for this film before, about an iconic Czech fighter who's mission is to keep a woman safe. It's all in English and features an international cast of non-Czech actors. The film tells the story of fifteenth century Czech icon & warlord Jan Zizka, who defeated armies of the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire. Jan realizes that the fate of the Empire will be decided by his love for Lady Katherine and his fate doesn't lie in the hands of Kings, but in the hands of his own people. Ben Foster stars as Jan Zizka, with a massive ensemble: Sophie Lowe, Michael Caine, Til Schweiger, Roland Møller, Matthew Goode, William Moseley, Karel Roden, and Werner Daehn.
